Industrial, Goth Rock, EBM, Power Electronics, Darkwave, Witch House etc.
Resident Death Rock guy reporting in. Posted my bc page early in the last thread, won't do it again unless somebody happens to want it.
Got some really old stuff for ye
Bands Courtney Love stole from before she was slob knobbing with Marilyn Manson:
Yeah, Whitehouse is Industrial noise, similar to Boyd Rice (NON)
DAF and 23 Skidoo are EBM
KMFDM and TKK are Industrial Rock
Skinny Puppy is hard af to place but somewhere on the Industrial spectrum
Bout a year ago we were doing goth/industrial nights at this old dying bar that had one point been a strip club and hadn't been renovated since. You haven't lived til you've seen a black metal guy at a goth night pole dancing to Head Hunter.
If you know some German, here's a nice interview with Gabi (even if it is the TAZ) that also speaks of his gay adventures in his youth and that he considered buggering Robert
>Is Whitehouse industrial?
they're power electronics which is influenced by industrial (moreso than any most of the industrial dance styles) but most fans would look at you weird if you tried to describe them as industrial.
There are monthly nights most places I know of. I'm in a pretty small town and our nights have been moving around. There's Siberia in New Orleans I know for sure. There are probably still plenty going in NYC and LA. There's The Castle in Ybor City.
And in between there's Mag Bar in Louisville, KY, and I've heard they're trying to get something going in Cincinnati.
There seem to be a lot of /dark/ bands around Seattle and Portland lately. There might be stuff going on over there.
Been going to goth nights since the late 90s, all over the country, and I'm an old man. Unless you just live in a town full of really shitty people, nobody cares how old you are, and nobody cares how you dress.
All anybody cares about is if you're easy to get along with and like the music. Dressing well is a good outward expression of that, but really, nobody cares.
So I'm listened to Rest in Peace by Controlled Bleeding for the first time and holy shit, I'm shocked how pop-friendly and dancey this is. Not what I was expecting at all, still good though.
I didn't know they were that well-known even in scene
Then again within the past three years the only vaguely /dark/ scene related events I've been to were a show played by a touring mallgoth band, a touring nu-goth/synthpop band, and an experimental noise side project of a darkwave band
In the US there's been the Spiritual Bat tour and a big Southwest tour with Strap On Halo and a few other bands. There's also Convergence. Some of the early 80s LA bands have big reunion tours now and then.
>be goth night promoter
>put ad on cl looking for bands
>over 9000 70s-style metal/southern rock bands reply
>mfw they promise they "have some heavy songs" in their set
someone should start a goth black dark music festival like how austin has that festival dedicated to psychedelic music.
invite a bunch of old goth act, fuck goth chicks, the potential is endless
There was another big one in the 90s, but Andrew Eldritch single-handedly ruined it complaining about how Sunshine Blind and The New Creatures were too goth for him. Raised such a shitstorm it ended up on MTV News. Kurt Loder's sarcasm was so biting it turned festival promoters off for two decades.
Goth chicks are generally very cool and down-to-earth. Like any other crowd, there are crazies, but it's usually pretty obvious. The good ones can spot fake a mile away though. You let them come to you.
Not in my experience, but then I also run with an older crowd. I did date a kind of weeaboo goth chick a long ass time ago, but she wasn't hyperactive and was pretty easy to get along with. I have had run-ins with a few of those, but they don't stick around very long.
Rozz Williams was clearly the prettiest goth
Are we gonna fap in here now?
In his prime he looked like a methed out Keifer Sutherland dressed up like George Michael
