Who here SLSK?
I just got it and so far so good, I can actually see it replacing torrents for me
you're a champ.
I use it almost daily, got a good rapport with some users there after cross-sharing with them, and we now talk about new releases & recs for each other. Feels great man
Yes but I used to download from it all the time at uni and had no problem. They only give a shit if you're downloading gigs of shit or seeding constantly. Downloading an album here or there shouldn't be an issue.
It really depends. One way to test is just to open it up and try downloading from someone - my university blocked it even at that level. But yeah, I just wouldn't. Try to find direct downloads.
Are you completely sure it didn't have anything at all to do with shitty transcodes, malware, unencrypted traffic, and users getting sued into oblivion because 90% of the uploaders were RIAA?
Got it recently, digging a lot.
I'm currently replacing my whole musical library with better quality (erasing all 192kpbs & shit for 320) and it's very useful. Huge amounts of stuff you can't find in torrents.
Also I like to check what people are downloading from me, there's some funny tendencies going on some days.
You realize that people will take anything from you, right? You don't need to share something no one else has. Just share something. I get people taking everything from me. Some of the things people have most recently uploaded from me:
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
Adam and the Ants
Fisk Jubilee Singers
Cop Shoot Cop
I don't even like some of the stuff people take from me (I just haven't gotten around to deleting it yet).
That said, I would say the big thing people seem to like the most (at least from my library) is NWW artists so if you've got any of those, share them.
156... maybe (in a blind AB test you might actually crack 50%). 192 is basically transparent. It's nice to have higher quality if you've got the space and a really high end system to play it on, but there's a very slim probability you'd do any better than chance distinguishing 192 vs 320 in a blind AB test.
The artists people got from me the most are by far Sonic Youth & Grateful Dead for some reason. With MM's last album, but that's more logic.
But I'm really glad when someone dl from me smth from a soundtrack I spent hours to find at a correct quality, feeluseful.gif
I use it. It's okay if you really want to get an album and don't want to wait til you have a computer by you, but otherwise it's kinda meh.
But the fact that I can use slsk on my phone at all is a big plus.
People like to block me after downloading a certain amount, albums are often missing a large portion of the tracks, finding lossless files is a nightmare, and most of the time the files are transcodes. That plus the fact that downloads are unreliable, slow, and usually don't finish makes slsk a very unfavorable way of downloading music.
I remember using soulseek before torrents blew up, and I thought "oh well shit I can just torrent my music now."
NOPE. Anything remotely obscure or underground you're not going to find on torrent (or at least have a really hard time finding it). the slsk community knows good music. fuck the chatrooms though.
You don't, that's why "filtering by FLAC or 320" is fucking useless regardless of where you're downloading from.
Pointing out that something being labeled as FLAC or 320 doesn't necessarily mean that it IS FLAC or 320 sounds retarded? You sound retarded.
Used and loved slsk for years. There have been literally two albums I wanted that I couldn't find on slsk since I've been using it, and one of those I checked out of curiosity to see if some one had it yet, and it was there. So yeah, slsk rules. Between slsk, the archive, sharethreads, and rutracker I haven't even tried to get a What.cd account yet.
>I downloaded @ 128 CBR I don't need to filter by lossless formats, BUT WHY IS IT SO LOSSY.
>I torrented in FLAC the same logic doesn't apply fuckface I don't need to check the spectrals shut the fuck up LOL
>being assblasted over people preferring a different music sharing medium than you
Your underage is showing.
Yeah, you kinda have to do that regardless of where you download from. That whooshing sound was the point flying over your head.
>I downloaded muh v0 because muh filters
>it sounds so fucking awesome!
>what? no, of course it doesn't cut off at 15k, because nobody posts shitty, mislabeled transcodes on muh soulseek
Your mom wasn't even old enough to fuck when I started pirating, kiddo.
Considering you didn't realize the difference between 128 and 192 and you don't understand how probability works for a single 2-outcome event, you'll forgive me for not giving a whole lot of weight to your opinion.
Is this comparable to what in terms of bitrate/size of library?
They're not really comparable.
What.CD is a torrent tracker where you can connect to multiple users to download files from an organized torrent group with (presumed) quality standards.
Slsk is a direct peer-to-peer service where you download from one user who has power over the download. The user chooses what files he uploads, and there isn't any sort of overarching structure past the user interface.
Can somebody with SLSK tell me if Michael Gira's book, the Consumer is on there? I don't want to download it for nothing.
