ITCOCK is a close second though.
I didn't say it was a bad album. I've listened to their entire discography, and Red, Aspic, Lizard, and Discipline are better. I promise most people on here have never listened to any King Crimson beyond ITCOTCK.
I've listened to the discog too. Red and Lizard are fantastic but I don't think they're better than ITCOCK. The again, maybe I shouldn't be throwing that label around. My favourite is In the Wake of Poseidon.
The list would be far too long so I'll just go with better debut albums released in 1969:
Orgasm, Canaxis V, New-Atlantis "Cosmic Music Experience", Alchemy, Monster Movie, Psychedelic Underground, Phallus Dei and Sea Shanties. And of course The Marble Index is Nico's real debut album.
usually debut albums are shit production wise, the reason why this wasn't is because the musicians were already experienced and some already a bit prolific, which is why they were capable of and could afford to produce a masterpiece.
Similarly, look towards supergroups for good debut albums. The Jelly Jam has a good debut.
This one's kind of 5 in 1.
Kind of unfair - but it still probably wins.
(you can argue that this wasn't a debut album, but it fuckin is don't deny)
The Modern Dance and STGSTV are leagues above ITCOTCK.
1. Songs of Leonard Cohen
2. The Velvet Underground & Nico
3. Ode (London Jazz Composers' Orchestra)
5. Choirs of the Eye
>leaving out way better debuts
