It can't be may or june because both 18 and 19 only happen in one month each and Bernard would know the date, which he apparently doesn't. Bernard can then choose between july and august, and since he has his number (16) he knows exactly what date it is. Albert knows it can't be a 14, since it occurs in both months, and since he couldn't have figured out the date if it was in august (15 and 17 are free) he has to know it's july. So July 16.
>>55145754 Assuming Albert knows the month, it is stated that Bernard knows the date and that this isn't enough information to get the answer. Therefore, it has to be a month which ONLY includes dates which are duplicated elsewhere, ie. July or August.
I don't believe that music has much — if anything — to do with intelligence directly, though education probably has its importance.
Pic related comes from a study that correlates people's favourite artists and their SAT scores: http://musicthatmakesyoudumb.virgil.gr No need to remind you that correlation doesn't imply causation though.
>>55145391 "Onkyo" is just the Japanese word for "sound", the genre is originally called "onkyokei" but most people just call it onkyo for short.
If the day was 18 or 19 then Bernard would know right off the bat as those dates are independent (June 18 or May 19). As Alfred knows 100% sure that Bernard doesn't know it. then it can't be May or June, as those would give the possibility that the date is 18 or 19. Therefore the month is either July or August.
Bernard realizes this after Alfred's quip. As he now knows what Cheryl's birthday is, the date must either be 15, 16, or 17, as if it was 14, it could be July or August.
Alfred realizes this then. As Alfred knows 100% what the date is, it must be July 16 as if it were August there would be two choices.
>>55145837 >Alfred realizes this then. As Alfred knows 100% what the date is, it must be July 16 as if it were August there would be two choices. I was following you up until here. Why can't it be the 15th or 17th?
>>55146107 Say Alfred's month is August. Therefore the date could be the 15th or the 17th. Then Alfred wouldn't know what the birthday is, and he wouldn't be able to say "Then I also know when Cheryl's birthday is".
As he does say this, the month he was given must be July, as that leaves only one possibility.
Albert knows the month. Bernard knows the day. If the day was May 19 or June 18 then Bernard ould know cheryl's birthday.
Albert says he doesn't know and he knows Bernard doesn't know too, therefore it can't be May 19 or June 18. B didn't know her birthday but after A's clue, he knows it must be June 17th, since he can deduce that from A's clue.
>>55146547 Lets say Albert was told June and Bernard was told the 17th . Since Bernard don't know; June 18 and May 19 are out. Albert knows its the 17th its the only available date in June. I'm not sure if this is the right answer though because the question says that Bernard knows first.
