>>59664430 it's like the second most popular and also most accessible of his albums, also why talk about Beefheart some more when there are plenty of other experimental musicians from the same period who did just as interesting things? I mean, people cum over how "experimental" TMR is but completely ignore the crazy shit Zappa was doing (Weasels Ripped my Flesh, Uncle Meat, Lumpy Gravy).
And in regards to SaM, Ry Cooder went on to have a career that is in many ways one of the most exciting and stimulating in roots music, yet no one on /mu/ has done any of the most basic research to see this.
>>59664470 Serious question; would you consider every beefheart record that finely skirted the line between pop and avant-garde his best if there was more than just Strictly Personal? Or are his extreme leanings what makes the balanced albums that much more enjoyable?
But I'm also into a lot of psych rock and this hits me with the whole "blues-inspired lo-fi psych" it puts out.
Last half kinda pisses me off and I think TMR is really overrated. It's like, yeah I get it, but you guys didn't have to purposely suck THAT hard. Could've at least put a bit more effort into it instead of beating his bandmates and just being a crazy douche in general.
