Trying to write a short piece about emotion in music prejazz and postjazz, esp with focus on jazz v romantic music, and the transition from higher power in cultural views from God as omniscient to God as Romantic Love . any smart ppl able to help
where do I go from here?
Why are lone composers going atonal now? Why do I have to venture into movie soundtracks to find anything with a melody?
HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF RAUTAVAARA
>absolutely need to hear
Piano Concerto #3

Piano Sonata #1
Piano Sonata #2
Piano Concerto #1
kubelik's early concertgebouw recording with the Mengelberg/Beinum orchestra from 1951 is still my favorite. the quality of the recorded sound isn't the best, but it's still far and away my favorite interpretation of the piece. it has quite the timpani presence.
walter, barshai, karajan (get the live one, if you can find it), mitropoulos, maderna, and scherchen (VSOO) are all great too.
>going atonal now?
They were going atonal 100 years ago. Nowadays there are plenty returning to more traditional melody. Auerbach, Adams, Rautavaara, Glass/Reich if you like them, Fairouz, etc.
Also ligeti wrote a lot of tonal music, like the other anon said
Anything with Abbado or Haitink if you like well recorded orchestras and peppy tempi
>No Mahlerian can afford to miss this performance. Had it come out as a commercial release when it was first recorded in 1951, I have no doubt that it would have become one of the standards by which all future performances would have been judged, and it would be a long while before anything came along that could match it.

>mfw after avoiding classical music for years and listening to 1812 Overture in its entirety for the first time
People are always asking about music thats similar to Eric Satie.
well here's this guy:
Ended up grabbing the Barshai since it was the first one I could find on rutracker (couldn't find the Kubelik). It was very lovely. The clash at the end of the second movement was done very well I thought.
Is the Kubelik one not uploaded anywhere or something? I couldn't find it or any mention of it in the usual places.
