But I'm making vague plans in my mind for getting an S60R in the near future. It looks comfortable and more than sporty enough for a daily. The one I saw was $8k for an 80,000 mile car. Looked immaculate, so I'm feeling conflicted about my choice. Like passing over the steady, intelligent and sane girl for the fun one who breaks down too often.
I own a Volvo 854R 96 Black on Black interior. Waiting two weeks to have it tuned and should have it back soon. Almost everything has been upgraded from the intake manifold and intercooler to fuel pump and koni suspenstion. Wont have to do any maintence for 5 years unless I fuck up and crash. She should be around 350 BHP maybe more we will see what this 20T turbo can do. Need a new dashboard thats the last thing I'm having a really hard time finding and it seems I may have to buy another car just to get a good dash and center console :(
B230F, just waiting for the winter to hit and the roads to be covered in ice for some hektik parking lot skids. Paid 600 bucks for the thing, almost everything electronic is broken, dash is completely dead, all gauges are dead and the ODO stopped 200k ago at 368k. Sway bar links are crumbling away, all 4 shock absorbers are leaking. Driver side window elevator was fucked, so it didn't go up nor down at all. It's fixed now though. Then the amenities. There are none. The oil fill cap leaks a bit, so the whole engine bay is covered in oil. Replaced the cap with a new one, but didn't clean out the bay, so it's covered in all kinds of shit.
Pretty much the only good part in this car is the engine and boy is that fucker ever so slow. Piece of shit starts up like it just rolled off the assembly line, doesn't lose a drop of oil, no unusual sounds or anything. It just works. Some of the best 600 bucks I've ever spent.
>>11334534 As far as I know, the cap is supposed to have a rubber seal. Well, I think that rubber seal has either crumbled away or turned into hard plastic. That much pressure to break the cap, shit man. I don't think that's a very good thing. Anyway, I doubt it very much that it's because of pressure. The car is over 20 years old and been sitting outside, unused for god knows how many years before I bought it.
>>11334534 >>11334546 Wait, now that I think of it, shouldn't there be like negative pressure in the crankcase? So if that shit is spewing out from the cap, doesn't that pretty much mean that I do have pressure in there? Shit, I don't even know anymore, I'll have to go take a look.
Ye, you got it right. After the engine is warm you can pull up the dipstick or open the oil cap and look for smoke. If it is smoking it prob has high crankase pressure from a clogged PCV. But I saw rspi on youtube put a plastic bag over the oil filler hole to see if it blew out or sucked in which is a great idea.
I had a 240DL wagon a couple years ago that I turned into a gaming mobile. Spent $400 for the car, then bought a PS3, a 36" TV, and a mobile hotspot. I didn't do any of the wiring because I'm partially colorblind, so I'm not exactly sure how everything was hooked up. But I can say it was "the" car in high school, even though the thing looked like a turd. Don't have any pictures on me at the moment.
>>11334612 I tried it with my hand from the fill hole and it gently sucked it in, so I guess the PCV is working correctly and not clogged. And thanks for the plastic bag tip, didn't even dawn upon me to try something that simple.
I also own a 2.4 2nd generation S40 that is currently in the process of being chopped up probably. Some fucking nigger stole it somehow from a parking lot and I haven't heard from it ever since. Police being the lazy fucks they are, can't do anything about it because "it's such a small matter" but they sure do have the time to pester little kids who play around with their 50cc mopeds. Fuck I'm mad as hell.
No US. We have the 2.5L 16t turbo? Thats a guess. I don't know whats actually in it lol. You guys have better 850Rs over there im jealous. In the US you cant even get a 850 in manual unless you buy a NA. US are plebs and cant into shifting.
>>11335005 Ah, you were talking about the 1st gen? Because I don't think those things had anything beyond the 2 litre. The 2nd gen had the 2.4 and 2.5 T5.
>>11335010 I bought a 740 shitbox just for laughs for 600 bucks. Turns out, that shitbox is built extremely tough and is surprisingly fun to drive. I was hoping for it to break in the first week of ownership. I'm now 2 months deep into it and it's still running like a champ. I kinda fell in love with that thing.
>>11335016 >Ah, you were talking about the 1st gen? Because I don't think those things had anything beyond the 2 litre. The 2nd gen had the 2.4 and 2.5 T5. oh shit sorry didnt i mention i meant 1st gen? sorry m8
The photo name says it all. It was my first car and had a broken ODO and sadly "died" not too long after me getting it. At the time I didnt have a job so I had no money to fix it or any know how. I have a 13' civic, but would give it up for my baby back.
>>11346771 volvo 240, 740 and 850 are good choices with that kind of budget.
240's and 740's have redblock engines and are RWD, the things can be fun as fuck (if turbo'd/16 valve) and decently fun in winter stock because RWD rectangles on wheels. Plus they're virtually un-killable.
850's are FWD but certian models can haul some serious ass for cheap.
Naming is based off number off doors, so 242=240 2 door, 244=240 sedan and 245= 240 wagon.
>>11346944 thanks for the info. that's a lot more simple than i thought it was haha i'm have a really hard time finding one in my city though. there's every car here, except volvos. probably due to the fact that I don't even think we have any volvo dealers.
>>11347039 Corollas are just as easy to work on as well and sip fuel. A volvo does not sip fuel it chugs it
>>11347046 And Volvo does not make you a colossal douchebag? If you are over 40 the car is fine but if you are one of those tryhards between the ages of 20-30 trying to look 'cool' . On top of the engineering douche bag persona these cars sort of attract
>>11347084 But like, taxi cabs are usually P71s too. And they tend to look like normal Crown Vics if they're repainted or undercover cars with no pushbar and spotlights. Are you telling me you've never seen old fucks in normal Crown Vics?
>>11347101 >worst cars >easy to fix on your own >cheap parts >runs forever >can be fun >RWD >looks good (this is more opinion) >Roomy as fuck with huge trunk >Cheap Nothing inronic about it, they are very good vehicles for a cheap price tag.
>>11347140 Volvo is shit which is why they ran in trouble in the first place because the numbers where terrible. Americans who go out and pick out a Volvo is literally the worst of the bunch . Cars are crap they are not fast, fuel efficient ,or even timeless classics .
>>11347151 >volvo is shit No, no they're not, a car isn't shit because you don't like it. Sorry, not how it works. They are cheap reliable easily repaired vehicles. Yes they are slow, yes they consume large ammounts of fuel, that does not make them a write off of a vehicle.
>>11347156 That's fine, a lot of people don't like the volvo look and a lot of people do like it, buying a car is a combination of what it has to ffer and how it looks I would say.
>>11347166 I actually have nothing against the looks. It's just that if I'm burning a shitload of gas I at least want an engine that sounds good and has some power. Not for racing so much as ripping skidz and passing people uphill with 3 passengers. A V8-swapped 262C Bertone would be my dream Volvo.
>>11342324 I love Saabs more as a comfy drivers car, but you can't beat Volvo's old RWD fun toys especially since you can buy a 240 series for less than $600 in Sweden, and a 740 for even less since there's more of them. But a 9-5 or a more agile 9-3NG or the older Sleeper9000 is my choice for driving.
I just found this one extremely good looking 240 Volvo for, get this, 400 bucks. Now, these things are quite cheap over here because they're like the second most common car after the 740. I myself have a B230F 740 VOlvo currently and was thinking, is it worth selling it and getting that 2 litre 240 instead? The 240 is inferior in pretty much ever other aspect except looks, can't beat that design of the 240 in anyway.
Should I sell my 740 for the 240? Both cars have 380k km and more on the ODO, so mechanically neither of them have been broken in yet.
>>11348833 To be honest, I just asked my sister if she was okay with me getting a third Volvo. She wasn't all that thrilled with the idea. You see, if I had room for a 6th car in my yard, I'd get that fucker right this instant, but space is extremely limited right now.
http://www.nettiauto.com/en/volvo/240/6811706 Man, just look at her. To my eyes, that looks like an easy 1 grand car, for fucking 400 euros.
Okay, I need to come up with a very, very, very good reason to buy that 240 Volvo. Personally I want the car, but in the end, I don't really have any use for it, my 740 is pretty much superior in every single way.
>>11349233 5 cars and to be honest, I can't. The S40 is currently in the process of being stolen. My Benz is bought on credit and I'm still paying for it. My parents use that piece of shit Hyundai currently. It's in my name, but they are paying for it and I can't just take it away from them. The 740 obviously I can't sell and my Chrysler is my pride and joy. Basically I can't. I've been thinking about selling my ATV to make some room for that 240, but I still can't justify rolling around with 4 cars.
