Hey /out/. I've lurked this board for a while, and I've some fond memories of 'camping' when I was younger, but it was basically just sleeping in a tent on a campground and cooking hotdogs. I've always really wanted to go full blown camping for 3 or 4 days, preferably with no people around to bother me. I plan to play it safe, bringing a tent and extra food whilst still dicking around and trying to make fires and shit. The problem is, I live here. I've done some fair searching and fairly local spots all seem to be relatively small or they're... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I live in PA, definitely lots of places to camp. Unfortunately the southeast end of the state, which you're by, is probably the worst area to go /out/ since it's the most populated area, but there are still places to go.
In any PA state forest or PA state wild area you can camp. There's info online about it. There's state forests and wild areas all over. I suggest just finding one close to you, drive there, hike in, and camp. They aren't crowded like state parks, and sometimes can be very nice forests.
I'm moving to Boulder from the midwest soon and was surprised to see this happening in Colorado. It seems much more progressive than here. Are these kinds of people very common there or is it just a case of wackos are everywhere?
So I made a post about this in trv, but I wanted to check with fellow sc/outs about gear and any experience in the Scottish Highlands. Next Spring (late april-may) I'm visiting Scotland for about 4 weeks and I'm doing several hill walks. I plan to hit the West Highland Way, Great Glen Way, and the Skye Trail. I'm taking a breaks in between hikes and would like suggestions about what to do with that time, cool places to check out, or any other travel tips I may not have considered.
Also gear shit because it's good to be properly prepared: OR Foray... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
So, I will be purchasing myself a pair of 9ft brown wool puttees for outdoor hiking use. I already know what they are used for but I want to know if there is anyone else who uses/has used/want to use for themselves. I personally can not wait until mine arrive just in time for this cold snowy weather
>>637828 Just to point a few things out... They take time to put on, for example when you want to change socks or something. They stop circulation in your feet if you pull them too tight. They will usually get really dirty. Wool cloth doesn't get dirty easily, but it's comparably harder to wash.
Depends on the type of adventure. Psychedelics are cool if its just an afternoon out with some friends and supplies are /casualmode/. For really going innawoods, I stay sober for the most part, but I'll bring some joints when I hunt. Most drugs dull my senses too much for survival mode.
Hey /out/ wanna rate my gear? Ive taken it on a couple overnights, but I want input to what I could adjust to make my pack a bit better. A few things I am going to add from the experience I had on the over nights. -even though I live in FL I still need some kind of insulation in my hammock. I'm thinking an under quilt or some type of blanket. I'd rather just bring my picnic blanket cause it's one side fleece and the other is waterproof. -Yo-Yo mechanical fishers and speedhooks. -Gaiters. -Maybe a Firebox but I'm still on the fence on this one. I prepare for natural disaster/power outage/social collapse/oil crisis/whatever might happen. Any number of things could happen to disrupt the supply of heat, food, and water. Why leave your survival to chance?
Post your setup and what you intend to stockpile in the future.
I want to go somewhere much warmer than where I currently am (Denver CO), find a place where I can set up a isolated bum camp close to town and preferably next to a body or stream of clean water warm enough to bathe in. There must also not be hordes of asshole homeless men descended from Cro Magnon who will rape and rob me. It must also be a natural area with a dark sky for star gazing. Then I went to get a job in said town, save up money, and live there until it starts to get warm up north again.
I need recommendations, most importantly where to go, secondly on how... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Crazy things you do /out/ when you're bored. I can't help singing loud some old well known songs, it starts normal but then the lyrics get more fouly and naughty, the more tired I become the more perverted things I sing, deep inside I wish someone to appear to stop this insanity. When I encounter fresh footprints I scratch pentagrams and voodoo signes on them so hikers might think some creeps are hunting them. When I reach some remote places high in mountains basically where the route ends I leave some weird writings on the stones like "Hitler did nothing... Comment too long.
