In Europe it's often called Turkish coffee. In Indonesia I have heard it described as Kopi Indonesia or Kopi Kebun. Malaysia also goes for the patriotic names. My russian friend calls it "Normal coffee, you idiot, now hand me the tea before I punch you in the teeth".

instant is easiest, just heat up water n throw in a teaspoon of instant. easy peasy. a large proportion of the world enjoys their coffee this way, and it turns out it's the easiest thing to do while /out/ as well

I used to bring a Coleman camping coffee maker but a buddy started bringing Starbucks instant and it's pretty good and a lot more convenient.

I don't drink coffee daily, so going without isn't an issue for me. That said, I do keep a few instant single packs of coffee and creamer in my bag for the occasional cold morning / colon cleanse / trade for stuff I didn't want to carry.
