A slightly outdated camera with a somewhat paimful to use menu system.

Shoulda saved for the a6000 with better menus, newer sensor, and a viewfinder.

124 KB,
Hi /p/ newfag to this board, just wondering whats a decent compact camera for around 300 USD. Something thats compatible to a tripod and other basic gear.

Just want something that'll be good for photography as a hobby for now but I dont want to sink too much money into it yet.

Also any starting tips? I know basic composition rules but dont have much experience.

Hey fellow anons, i'm in deep shit, i have drawing to make based on photographies of 3 to 6 years old children portraits.

I searched all of the internet and didn't find the same children taking one profile pose, one 3/4 pose and one frontal pose.

Help me /p/ please, i need those portraits. My family's rather small so i can't really take photos of cousins or whatever

thanks

portra 160 is the main gun of like every serious photographer looking to have "that look".

i've been trying to get a xpan I, I found a good one for around 1700€ but don't know if it is worth it (I'm mainly afraid of the electronics failing) I love the results of this camera, I've seen amazing stuff with the 45mm f/4 - it's such a different beast, really cinematic, but for that price I could get a M6 and maybe some glass

-- if the xpan needs repairing im fucked, the m6 wins that, but the photos it takes, are unique, and stitching is for pussies...

Question is really whether it will suit your specific shooting style.

My opinion: Get a nice used one - spend a long time and make sure you get a good deal. Run a few rolls through it. If you like what you get, stick. If not, sell up - you should be able to sell it for equal to...

You can find one cheaper, it just requires patience. I got my xpan for around 700 with the 45. Before buying make sure you ask what the shutter count is. Make sure you also ask about any gremlins. Xpan's have a tendency to have their electronics go, either the meter won't work or it'll drain the battery quick, make sure you're not buying one of these if you want to resell it later.

The photos it takes aren't really all that unique, is it the only pano setup that takes 65mm wide images? Yes. Is it unique? No. There are pano backs for MF cameras too, the only unique thing you're getting is the DOF of a standard/tele lens in a wide/standard FOV. The other major drawback it has are the lenses, while they're great lenses you have the 45 which is wide and the 90 which is standard. The 30mm has it's own finder and is superwide about 17mm iirc, it's also about as expensive as the rest of the kit.

So why pick up an xpan anyway? If you're used to shooting 135 pano and you want a weight reduction on your kit, it's great. If you're used to using rangefinders then it's a great purchase. If you really love shooting film then it's great. It is a good camera, it's just not for everyone.

If you already have digital, shoot a 24mm for a while and frame and crop everything (65x24). If you find that works for you pick up an xpan and the 45. If you don't like rangefinders or haven't shot one, make sure you do this first.

How would you use the product?

What features would you use?

How would it be best styled (Button places, ergonomics or aerodynamics if mounted on a car or helmet, design of the camera in general)

What would you want it to do? (Video quality, wide angle/zoom, Slow motion options, time lapse etc.)

Would you want phone connectivity for easy sharing?

Do you want good video quality, or a tougher build?

Do you want a screen for viewing?

Fixed lens or interchangeable lens? (such as on larger cameras such as c mount? nikon or canon? )

I am interested in how he does his photos. As in techniques in his shooting and what kind of post production does he do. I love his style of photos, but can't seem to get a result even close to them. Any tips would be very much helpful. I know he shoots with a Canon 6D. This is just one example of his photos. You can check others on his website or facebook page.

What sort of aberration is this? Coma? It looks like a slight halo.

Why does it so often occur on the edge between buildings and sky?
It was taken with a glorious 85mm 1.8G - so its not like it was a shitty unsharp lens.

Can digital cameras just not compensate for the sudden change from building to sky?

Depends, the sharpest may be around 5.6-8 or even 11 in some cases. You need to shoot multiple photos of the same spot to see sharpening in the edges. The center will always be more sharp than the edges.
>>
I think its "edge contrast halo" from what i'm reading online.

It appears that they are a side effect of almost ANY sharpening on digital photographs. Photoshop sharpens by increasing edge contrast, so it makes the dark darker, and the light lighter. Sometimes the light getting lighter is incredibly obvious.

If thats the case Photoshop needs a "maintain contrast" sharpen setting. I'm going to have to manually correct it...

>side effect of almost ANY sharpening

It's not a side-effect.
It's what sharpening purposely does.

Parents' first digital here. I was old enough to use it, but not old enough to be trusted with it, if that makes sense.

It'd run out of battery or fill its tiny memory card in less shots than film sometimes, lol.

What gives old photographs that distinct, "other-worldy" sort of look? A lot of people say it's the color, but I can still see it when one converts an old Kodachrome picture to black & white. It's almost like there's a "haze" to it that modern photographs lack.

Was it the old cameras? Old film stock?

I pirated them. Nothing impressive. Cool tones, but not worth spending money on them lol. Why not just pirate everything.

If shooting digital, do the same but just resize it down to a low res, upscale and add grain.

171 KB,
I've been given the opportunity do display some of my work in a local gallery.

I can only choose 5 images and am having some trouble selecting them so I'm going to post some in hopes that /p/ can help me decide.

I'll start with the 3 I'm leaning toward putting in the galley and then follow with a few more that I'm on the fence about.

Also, If anyone has any tips for me on how to go about deciding print prices and sizes, It would be must appreciated.

Most of the time photography brings me self doubt and only bland and mediocre work. But the few times I'm actually satisfied with the final product and the process of shooting/post-processing in general make up for all the bad feelings. I'd even consider photography to be my only real passion in life.

Here's a legit protip:

If you want to shoot portraits, your ability to connect/communicate with people and to develop a good rapport is more important than your technical ability as a photographer.

Stop shooting pictures of your cat. Get out of your house. Leave your camera at home. Yes, leave your camera. Get out and become a productive, engaged, integrated member of society. Get a job that requires social interaction. Learn to talk to people. Get comfortable around others. Learn to communicate effectively. Learn to write well. Read good books. Go to places and do things that you'd never normally do. Take risks.

That's the only way you're going to develop the skills you need to do what you want.

Anybody can learn how to expose and compose a shot. That shit's easy. But if you want to take pictures of anything other than your cat or some shitty, shallow DOF shots of bees at the park, you're going to have to get way outside of your comfort zone.

Get the fuck out of the house son, you can be a raging sperglord and still stop people on the street to ask for a photo. No it's not comfortable the first few times you go up, but it gets easy as shit with a bit of practice. And that's the key thing, you have to practice things as well as read about them to git gud and you need to decide what you love more, photography or your raging anxiety.

People like you annoy the fuck out of me, you don't hear quadriplegics whine they can't use a stairmaster, because it's something they can't do. You whine like a little bitch because you're a bit afraid - to do what you love, despite there being zero risk of actual harm from it.

Don't waste my fucking time you millennial bitch faggot.

The Nikon 2020 is an awesome and cheap body(30$) that allows for auto focus, auto wind that allows for rapid fire, aperture and shutter priority modes, exposure comp, and the lightest of all I mentioned. Nikon has great cheap film bodies with high tech, but Nikon lenses are generally on the more expensive side.
Also whatever you get your sister, just get her a cheap nice 50mm to start with

I meant what's the transition called. The shooting at two places is easy, but MAKING the transition is difficult.

Am i the only one who is having problems hitting focus with 85mm lens, or is it everyone else?
f 1.8 or f 2 is almost unusable, not only eyes end up not in focus, but face too in 9 out of 10 shots. Wondering if this is a common problem, or just my camera calibration.

Dude, resize your shit.

master single point and reframe.

Otherwise, it's the curse of a thin depth of field. Other lenses farther up the chain suffer the same problems.
