>>2936825 There's some really nice stuff on there, I also like the design of the website, although it's rather 'safe'.
/p/ wouldn't be /p/ without some harsh critique, though:
Go easy on the ''tired people in public transportation'' meme.
Same goes for ''old/ugly/'special' people in close-up street portraits'', it's arguably more of a genre than it is a meme, but still, it's been done a lot so it doesn't stand out. There are thousands of ''gritty portrait of a bum'' photos, if not more. Technically speaking they're good, but not exceptional. You need to set yourself apart from the rest by doing something different/better than the others.
''First name Last name photography'' is a rather cliché name. Not trying to be a dick here, but I'll forget your name in an hour if not less.
I like pic related a lot, it's the best after the one you posted here already.
>>2936827 Yeah man, I agree with the special close up portraits. Bruce Gilden got me into street shooting so I can never imagine not giving his style some kind of homage.
I take the most pride in the INSIDE work. It's what I've been working on a lot recently and I feel as though it stands out most of all my work. I try to shoot in indoor locations because not a lot of people are doing it, and I feel I can create a niche with it.
Thanks for the feedback, man. I really appreciate it.
>>2936791 You know, usually it bugs me when people respond with negative posts and no helpful solutions. It just seems like people getting online to be dicks just for the sake of being dicks...
But this guy is spot on. It's clear from your post that you have no idea, and are looking for the easiest way to cobble something shitty together. You and your "girl" (what, girlfriend, fiance, wife, second cousin?) are starting a small business around something you know nothing about? It sounds like you two were... Comment too long. >>2936704 Content: It's utterly boring. Dime-a-dozen. It's the type of thing that everybody does when they get their first DSLR. It's a "Hey! I just discovered shutter speed!" photo. What's next, a slow shutter speed shot of a waterfall? You can see shit like this all day every day from beginner photographers on Facebook. It's completely forgettable in every single way.
Execution: The one single defining quality that makes these types of photos successful is sharpness. You've got to nail focus, and you've got to nail the shutter speed. Guess what? You fucking failed. The body of the bird---the one thing that's supposed to be steady---is blurry. So, you failed. Besides that, though, the processing is shittastic. It's dull, boring, and flat. As long as you nail the basics, then a shot like this should be automatically decent. But somehow you managed to fuck up even the most basic aspects of this.
Also, take your shitty watermark off of it. That's not a "pro" thing to do. It doesn't build your brand. It doesn't advertise. It doesn't get your name out. It's something that fake, shitty, "first-name last-name photography" Facebook morons do. You know what else it does?
Also, you should probably delete your Facebook page. It's honestly embarrassing. I'm not trying to be dramatic. Perhaps you'll be great one day. Perhaps you'll learn and become a really talented photographer. But holy shit, bro, that's an astonishingly terrible collection of horrible photos.
>>2936555 You'd just get a hazy image if you had a liquid filled body, sensors/film don't exactly work with liquid beating against it. Now hypothetically if you could put some sort of transparent gel or suspended liquid in your camera body, you'd get a Petra Collins aesthetic at best and nothing coherent at worst
>>2936555 Hell if you want to try this out get a fully manual film camera(no batteries), and take some photos with your body full of water, you'll ruin the body and lens and learn that it's not feasible but at least it'll be a fun science experiment
It’s surprisingly easy and cheap to make your own b/w developers. ITT we’ll be making something that has the exact same composition and properties as everyone’s favourite stand developer, Rodinal. The stuff known for its fine grain and dynamic range compression yadda yadda.. It also keeps forever. Doesn’t go bad. Ever.
Using paracetamol painkiller pills (Tylenol in the US, amongst other brands), drain cleaner and Sodium Sulfite.
Only the last ingredient has to be bought online or from a chem dealership and it’s also useful for diy fixer (more on that later).
We’ll be making 250ml – enough for 30 rolls of 35mm film. Same dilutions and dev times as normal rodinal.
Here’s what you’ll need to play chemist: -A container -Sodium Hydroxide (lye) drain cleaner. Little transluscent white pellets. Make sure to buy the cheapest generic brand sort that doesn’t have any fancy additives like detergents, just pure NaOH – check the contents on the label. -Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) painkiller pills. Again, since the active substance is identical everywhere, go for the cheapest generic brand ones – some fancier ones have additives like caffeine, we want pure 500mg paracetamol pills. Won’t list brands because we’re a happy worldwide community and it varies by country. -Sodium Sulfite (NOT Sulphate or Sulfide!) – Na2SO3. It’s a widely available, non-toxic (unless you try very hard) substance that’ll stabilise our rodinal’s PH and act as a preservative. -Distilled/Deionised water – readily available for refilling pressin irons and a multitude of other purposes. Boiled tapwater will do in a pinch if you’re incredibly poor or lazy, but I wouldn’t recommend it. -A means of weighing powders – optimally a set of cheapo jewelry electronic scales (ask your neighbourhood drug dealer) – in a pinch, kitchen scales will suffice. -A means of measuring liquid quantities – more on that in the next post.
[TRIGGER WARNING] ITT we will be using metric quantities and you’ll have to do your own conversions into grains, drachms or stones/rocks or whatever it is you savages use, holy fuck.
You could get a graduated cylinder and shove it up your anus like the little faggot you are, sure (I have 2), but for all you normal people out there there’s a neat little trick to getting precise (ish) fluid volumes using only your kitchen scales. The commonsense French devised their metric system around the most abundant substance in our bodies and lives – water. 1kg of water... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Here’s what you might also use, but isn’t necessarily required – a mortar and pestle (if you live in the middle ages holy fuck what is this an apothecary), a coffee grinder (clean it thoroughly b4 and after, obviously), a hammer and a sturdy plastic bag or any other concievable means of powdering your paracetamol tablets. Use common sense, improvise. We need to finely powder the pills to make them easily dissolvable.
>‘tog protip: If you can’t figure out a way to powder them, in a pinch, instead of wasting them on developer you’ll never use to make anything other than shitty bokehball/cat snapshits, ingest the 30 paracetamol pills, don’t inform anyone and enjoy your slow painful death of complete liver failure.
Hey manes can you guys give me some advice on shooting with color infared film. Im hoping to bring a roll with me on a trip to Yosemite in November. i dont wanna fuck up an expensive roll so any first hand advice would be cool.
http://filmphotographyproject.com/store/135-infrared-fpp-color-infrared http://www.tarquinius.de/ These are the only two sources I've ever been able to find regarding sellers, the euro link I've heard good things from https://youtu.be/Rw1w2TP4xrg This is a vid link to someone who reviewed the first link, he fucked up by cheaping out on the filter. Get a nice filter for your roll, also make sure your camera doesn't have auto wind, auto rewind, or a DX reader. It's common for cameras with those features to have IR sensors in the camera body that... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2937654 My uncle's neighbour has a camera collection, one of his most prized ones is a weird East-German camera which takes pictures at a 90° angle and uses some proprietary exotic film format. According to him, it was used by the Stasi to spy on people, even though it's by no means a miniature camera.
I don't think I have come across anything too strange irl. Went to an antique shop before they closed and gandered at a dark green 8mm beater, maybe it was used in a war? Think the tripod was made of wood.
I recently obtained a camera from my schools photography closet which hasnt been used in quite a few years, the teacher let me keep it but i have one problem, I dont know the model. All i know is that its a nikon and loads 35mm film. please help me
I'm relatively new to photography and I'm wondering why everyone here seems to shoot in Aperature Priority. Seems like whenever I view the exif data on an image, 9 times out of 10 they are shooting in AP, why is that?
>>2936631 Aperture priority is the pro auto mode, if it's a shot I care about I use manual, if not I use aperture priority. Generally the wider your aperture is, the softer the image will be. And once you go past a certain f stop, you'll lose quality as well from diffraction. Aperture priority is basically an auto mode where your camera won't change your lens to dumb f stops.
Because shutter speed has little to no effect on most scenes unless there's motion, so it's similarly of little consequence to let the camera decide the appropriate shutter speed for the f/stop you've chosen.
I mean, you could go to all the effort of choosing 1/320 or 1/640 or 1/500 over and over again, but why? What does it gain you?
