450 KB,
My photos are pretty much shit by you guys standards and by the photography community at large. I'm new to the field but I really like it and I take pictures with my babbys first rabal nearly every day. I'm going to use this thread to post what I think are my best pictures from every day and what you guys are going to do is either ignore it, insult it or, hopefully, provide some genuine criticism. I've got more than a few in the magazine now. I'm going to post a few and go from there.

Hey guys, I just started shooting with an old 35mm film SLR and after I had finished my roll I rewound it an found all the film spooled around the grip thing on the right hand side. It did not seem right when rewinding it because the rewind spinner was chugging every push.

What did I do wrong? Was it when I loaded the film I made a mistake? How can I correct this in the future. I hate wasting film.

Did you enable rewind mode? It'll be a little switch or button that releases the mechanism and allows you to rewind info the canister

Anyone have success or commercial experience with drone photography?

I'm still figuring out photography basics, and am wondering how much manipulation of camera settings one has to do with a drone?

Any stories of mishaps, accidents, shots missed because of a flight path issue?

You only need a faa certification if you're selling the footage or using it commercially. Hobbyists just need to register the drones for 5 bucks with the faa online

Are you excited for an open-source camera? By the eventual extinction of proprietary hardware companies, there will be advancements in both price and quality.

Cool story bro. It's not useless because the options provided will make UV and IR photography easier for people to get into, which is important to me.

I loved the axiom idea in the beginning. Then I observed that "company" and get a little deeper look. Over the time I got enormously frustrated and annoyed by their politics and communication. It is a shit, lazy and unfortunately extremely unprofessional bunch of nerds and wannabe biz-guys.
The whole process takes like forever and the price will be horendous in the end.

They just miss the core feature. It is not like they could build a good camera. For this they don't have the resources and experience. It is about the open-source opportunity. I'd...

298 KB,
Hello /p/. I am looking into purchasing my first DSLR. I've only ever shot film in the past, or cheap Canon Rebel digitals. I'm really wanting to invest in a good, accessible FF system which can replace my old equipment.

I am seriously considering the Pentax K1, based on the design, IQ, features, but primarily it's price-point as compared to Canon, Nikon, and Sony.

I am wondering your thoughts and suggestions on both the camera, Pentax K-Mount system, and also what reasons there might be to wait and invest into a Nikon/Canon/Sony system, and why, etc.

if you're buying used canikon, pentax K-1 might end up not being that much of a good deal, but you are buying into unique pentax stuff such as godlike ergonomics, legit weather sealing and built like a tank, pixel shift (if you're doing still stuff like landscape or taking hi-res of paintings/architecture/food/misc macro), and being the only hipster within a 100-mile radius that actually owns a digital pentacks camera

it's hard to give you an actual recommendation without knowing what the fuck...

I'm doing a pinup photoshoot but I hate how modern pinup photography looks too crisp and clean. Is there anyway to give my pictures the soft feel from vintage photos? (I plan on both modern looking ones as well as a set designed to emulate the older look)

Shoot it clean and sharp, then dick with things like vintage film filters and blurring.

The old school way is to smear vaseline on a lens (or like a UV filter for easier cleaning), then shoot through that, but I strongly suggest you do it digitally to a sharp image because that gives you more control over the final look.
>>
>>2934868
No. They would either use softfocus lenses or a softfocus filter, sometimes combined with a film without an anti-halation layer.
>>
>>2934864

just shoot film maiman. crappy ass emulsion+oldass lens will give you the exact look youre looking for.

>>2934868
this is garbage.

Hello I am from /ic/ and I am practicing on a new medium - oil paint. I would like you to post me your photos so I can pick one and make a painting of it. Could take several days to complete but I just would like some inspiration from the fine work you all do.

I will post my result when I am finished with the painting.

Hi guys, I'm 22 and just now getting into film/photography. I want more than anything to be a director oneday but fuck if all this information isn't overwhelming. I keep constantly comparing my age to other directors and when they started.

I just bought a Pantax K1000 to start, and rented a ton of books and I'm on the sticky allot- I just wanted to know when you guys started, if you are self taught what are some tips? Thanks.

How is getting a Pentax K1000 gonna help you become a director?

If you like photography, you are better off getting a digital SLR and playing with vintage lenses. You got the Pentax lens, thats a start. Now get a digital Canon body.
>>
>>2934241
a film camera is going to get you precisely nowhere if you want to direct movies. find some money and buy a dslr that can shoot video
>>
>>2934244
I thought starting with photography would be a good lead in to film as to teach myself terminology and rules. Obviously they are pretty different in the end.

I'm sure this is a retarted question- infact I know it is- I'm still on basics in my self teaching and I haven't gotten to body's/lenses beside very basic stuff. If I have a 50mm Pentax lenses can I put that on a cannon DSLR body? Are their specifications about size or do different brands do different things?

Hello /p/, I don't come often to this board, but I've always been intrigued by photography, and recently I thought that it'd be nice to invest more time and resources on it, though I am currently not planning to ever work in the field or making it my main passion. That said, I've only used smartphones to make photos and the most "advanced" camera I ever used was a friend's Canon D1100, which I had a lot of fun experimenting with. I've been looking a bit on the Internet, and I'm trying to decide wether to take a Bridge or an entry...

Hey guys I'm new here, shooting for around 5 months.
I saw a thread by Alex Burke who shoots large format.
Can I take Alex Burke tier photos using a D750/D810 or a 5D2/5D3 or is the look (not colors) only achievable by large format?

My D3000 just broke and I want to buy something I want have to sell or replace for a while. I'm looking for best quality, I just haven't seen any photographs like Alex's from a 35mm sensor

At web res you can probably get very close with a tilt shift lens. But the large format movements, if and when he uses them, aren't available with any old camera.

A d810 stands no chance against the large format camera in large prints.

I recommend trying 4x5 if you get the chance, it's really fun and for a shot like that you're going to be on a tripod and waiting for the light anyways, so you'll only have to carry it while you're traveling.
>>
Nah. Not only does Alex shoot 4x5 with a full-on view camera (with all the movements and then some), he's also got well over a decade of experience. It's also not apparent from the pictures at first glimpse, but he works his ass off for each and every shot.

So for the OP, the way to go to get good is practice with any old thing. You can always go film and view camera and what-not in the 2020s. (hopefully colour 4x5s will be around at that time as well.)
>>
>>2932827
Well I mean, I'm not too concerned about quality of large prints, but just the type of photo with the background compression and flattening of image and so on.

Thanks

So Iheard from some semi-reliable source (a Fuji distributor) that Fuji is about to discontinue Acros 100 in 35mm format. He said that they officially "know nothing", but they're expecting it any moment now.

Better stock up while you still can.

Ok. Here is the story. I have budget of about 200£. Thinking of buying starter telescope for photography.

Is any of telescopes below worth considering. Or would you recommend different one and why.
Once again keep it below 200£

Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ3

Skywatcher Explorer 130M (EQ2)

Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ-MD Motor Drive

Also would motor drive help or cause problems with photography (added vibrations for example)
