> Be noob photog
> Take my camera to social events to do snapshits, friend of mine(who is crazy about working out) notices
> Asks me if i can take a couple of pictures for him

This is going to be my first photo shoot, so i am very unexperienced. I know how to operate a camera in M mode, but that's about it. I don't know the setting, if i had to guess i'd say either his gym or somewhere outside.

Gear:
Sony a6000
Sony 18-55 3.5-5.6
Minolta 50 1.8
Old tripod from my mom (lel)
Lightroom

So can you give me some tips on how to do this?

> Which lens do i use? The Minolta provides better bokeh, but getting the focus exactly right won't be easy (despite using peaking and focus magnifier). The 18-55 is more versatile and has auto focus and image stabilization, but close to zero shallow depth of field.

> How to expose?

> Tips on composing and framing?

> General do's don'ts?

Thanks guys.

What do you want to achive? Do you need bokeh for that, if yes chose the Minolta. Do you need auto focus and image stabilization even if you have a tripod? Then take the Sony. I doubt that you will need it though, you are in a shooting environment, you have all the time in the world to operate with a tripod and manual focus.

Correctly.

Got a canon 1100D for free off of a very kind friend about a couple of years ago.

I've tried getting used to manual and using every other setting the camera has but I always end up taking either blurrly or noisy pictures if the weather is anything but a sunny day. So am I just shit or is the camera also a little shit? any tips?

1. Resize picture
2. Consider SQT
3. If you really do not understand what is happening and why to your pictures consider asking a pro to help you or go to a workshop.
4. Read up on how the physics of the camera work. Do you really understand the relationship between shutter, ISO and apeture?
5. Throw yourself in the deep end and take a lot of pictures for a bit and don't care about failure. One of the advantages of digital is you don't have to worry about processing costs so you can shoot a lot of errors and go back though the EXIF data and see aperture,...

I just got a camera after i've been inspired by all the amazing photos i see everywhere. This is my favourite from my first day as a photographer. is close up photos a thing? Thoughts about this photo? i want to be able to take landscape photos aswell.is a wide lens needed or can i work with what i have already?

i'm happy for all the feedback i can get.

Do you still have a photo laying around from your first day?

I like that bit of green coming out of the crack. the super close up shots are macro. You don't need a wide lens for that but it can have great results with different angles. f/20+ is perfect for landscape to have everything in focus

I think you can getto a macro lens by buying a converter and flipping the lens backwards

Why a go pro and why a significantly more expensive phone? The go pro will take better pictures and video but why cuck yourself when you have the budget to get a decent camera which shoots far better video and pictures than both of those.

So recently I shot a free show with a bunch of small local bands. Wasn't a paid gig or anything, i just showed up and got some shots. Now i'm at a loss of what to do with the pics. Do I just send them to the groups? Right now I really just wanna try to get my foot in the door, not angling for cash with this (especially since it was a free show).

123 KB,
Long story short I was asked to take pictures of a birthday party in a very dark restaurant.

The friend didn't want to go outside and take picutres in a park with her 1 year old baby.
She said that I must >just photoshop it.

So now I want to know is there any hope for some of these shots?

There are a couple I got the baby to the front of the restaurant that came out good but the play pit area is dark.

Lets see the snapshits. There are 36 frames to a roll; I know you're taking snapshits of walls and buckets and reflections in between the masterpieces, lets see them.
Next time you want to call someone a faggot or tell someone to post in the gear thread, add pic unrelated.
I want to get a better pic/post ratio than the RPT.
Lets make the FGT great again.

This is the thread for all of your stupid film questions, and to post your film snapshits without flushing them down the RPToilet.
It's OK to ask about film gear in this thread.

I suspect issues that might come into play, depending on the lense and camera, is that a very strong vignette wide open, compounded by less than great transmission or flare properties on these super-speed...

Recently, I have seen a number of exhibits of "new" photographers whose work is VERY DIFFERENT that most of the work I see here. Many call themselves "postmodern", but their work appears to be of very low quality and frequently has disturbing imagery and/or messages. Their image are frequently banal, or just plain ugly.

I'm wondering, why those people are having shows in important galleries/museums, but it appears that most of the people I talk with don't like the images, but for some reason, they also look down on those of us doing work that features beauty and peace.

Any thoughts????

art is very frequently ugly, morbid and confronting as it is appreciated for it's emotional power.

This is the black square on white background by Malevich, it's one of the first works of art that try to exclude all classic features of what is considered art by most people. Most of the people back then didn't understand it, neither do most people today. You are on the same level of understanding art as most people 100 years ago, you sure are qualified to discuss it on 4chan.

0 B,
Someone decided to buy me some gear that I could use for producing photos and videos for buidings and houses ads.
What should I ask?
I'm currently thinking into buying some SD cards, GoPro, drone, lenses, tripods, a motorized slider, and a crane, microphone, continuous lighting, and a new desktop computer.

Any tips on what brands for what kind of product?
What about "kits" of products, like a kit that has 2 lightstands, softboxes and a green backdrop?

dont think a go pro would be very useful, or a microphone

get a good quality dslr with a wide angle lens

a sweet drone with good stability and capable of filming very smooth video, get a good mount for the dslr and use it to make flyovers of the house etc

use the dslr to take shots of each room etc, use a tripod

thats pretty much all you need, well some lighting shit too, to make the rooms look nice and some good editing software

Do you plan on doing some extreme sports in these buildings?
>>
>>2886499

You do not need DSLR for that, you will do better with Sony A6300 - it is lighter and provides better video than most DSLRs including the most expensive ones.

There are also many manual focus ultrawides for Sone E/FE from Samyang and others. You may probably (cannot say for sure) even skip the GoPro because of how good Sony A6300 is.

DSLR is really not as convinient as MILC is for this application. The only drawback is battery life.

Why should I get into photography? I have a camera on my phone that I can take pictures of shit anywhere I want without having to bring a bunch of peripheral shit. Plus getting a decent camera to start with is very expensive. Yet I'm still interested. What got you guys into photography?

I wanted to buy a nice camera to take pictures of my progress when building guitar pedals so I could sell them easier so I got a dslr and did that

Then I found the negatives/prints I developed when I was in high school and got back into film

Now whenever I get really frustrated with music I can switch to shooting digital or film and then get frustrated doing that and the cycle is born

As for shooting with a phone camera I just find it annoying to hold/focus/control settings
>>
For me it's just a creative thing to do
The pictures from the camera on the phone is like a sketch. Good for conveying concepts but not wholly satisfying. And a proper edited image that was captured with composition and artistic intent in mind is more like a painting. More energy consuming, but more emotionally rewarding to make.

Everyone needs something creative to do imo, photography is easy to get into compared to painting or carving or sculpting. It requires less skill overall, although making actually stunning photos will require a lot of it. However the...

62 KB,
This will be out of the realm of most of you /p/ros though some of you are quite knowledgeable.

I recently went from 120 (6x6) to 4x5 and now need a way to scan the LF film (DSLR scans don't cut it when it comes to the prints I am doing). The closest shop with a drum scanner is 1000km away and the local guy has gotten out of the biz after his machine went down.

I have a guy who is willing to sell me his drum scanner and teach me how to use it.
Locally there would be about 5-10 clients who shoot LF and scan to print, that could potentially help to justify...

Kitchen.jpg
494 KB,
Got to photograph this beautiful home for a realtor. Left the kitchen for the last shot to take my time and get it right.
So there I was thinking I'm at f/7.1 (should have been at f/8) but my finger must've hit the dial because I was actually at f/6.3, and that was enough to ruin the background sharpness.
I do 360 panoramas with a Ricoh Theta S. I had just balanced it on a tripod when out of nowhere, a gust of wind knocked it over and the Theta landed on its lens, a complete loss. Been one of those days.

No lens correction?
>>
>>2877941
yes, I always do lens correction for barreling distortion. Did I miss some problems?

Sorry bout that 360 cam
I wouldnt beat yourself up over the kitchen shot, no realtor or homebuyer would notice it, and even a photographer wouldnt notice unless you pointed it out to them
How well does reality photography pay?

The Trip is all I need

Sell all the Nikon stuff to buy a Nikon FE and a 55mm F2.8 for backup if I need fine control that I can't get from the Trip.

I'd be very excited about the 55 1.2, and the 70-200 is probably really nice too. I would think that would be generous of whoever gifted it, even though I would never use either camera, and mostly only one of the lenses.

2 MB,
I have an issue where photos that I have on my phone look really good with intense colors, when viewed on my laptop will look less intense, almost lower contrasted, and a little brighter.

Is this my particular laptop screen? Or is this a function of images on a phone being smaller and thus denser?
How do I make sure that what I'm seeing on my phone is what's seen across everyone's devices?

That's expected, phone screens are often made to appeal to consumers who think that crazy saturation and contrast are visually appealing, and obviously your computer display will have a much more powerful backlight than your phone.
It's the same reason that most TVs and displays in stores are run in Demo modes which crank up all the settings to make the picture "appealing"...

because laptop screens are garbage and phone screens are high end (because you pay so much for a small one)

Explain the OnePlus 3 then. You can get either nice displays on flagship phones or shit ones, and laptop displays can be shit or decent as well, some even have calibrated displays. I don't think it's right to make blanket statements about which is better without knowing what phone and laptop OP has.

Should I buy a used Fuji XT 10 from amazon? If so what should I look for in a used camera?

You should buy a used camera, but you shouldn't buy from Amazon. Buy from KEH. Their grading system is second to none, and their customer service is fucking awesome.

>KEH
Thanks, I only see a xt1 for $740
Is it worth it buying a new camera?

Mirrorless cameras are good up to an insanely high amount of actuations. Just go ahead and get a used one.
