48 KB,
Hey /p/,

I was curious if someone could offer advice on adapting threaded filters (77mm DSLR filters) on older cinema lenses? The lens I'd be using it on would be this Zeiss 10-100 T3 for starters but I will be using older lenses which threaded isn't possible. I'd like to avoid anything that would include a matte box because I simply don't have the budget for one. So specifically anything that can take these filters and attach directly onto the lens or 15mm rods.

And I'd love some brutally honest critique on this one too. I like the framing and the contrast of the colours, but i'm still not conviced its actually that interesting of a photo.

http://petapixel.com/2016/01/06/kodak-is-bringing-back-the-super-8-as-a-film-camera-with-digital-features/

The camera is estimated to be $400-$750.

50ft of film, with developing and digital scanning included, is estimated to be $50-$75.

So, shooting at 18fps, you get 3m20s of footage, and you have to wait however many days for Kodak to process and scan the film to get your results, and it costs you $50-$75, for EVERY 3m20s??!?

Let's think about that for a moment. We'll assume the bottom of the estimate, $50 for 3m20s of footage.

For an hour of footage, that comes to $900.

Who does Kodak think is going to buy this camera?

8mm has always been super un-economical. This isn't a new thing, if you wanted to use the format these were always the costs involved.

>and I just want to shoot and not think.
Bait?

Personally I think they're hugely overrated and more to the point overpriced. However the former is because I'm in a film ivory tower and the latter because I've no second-hand nostalgia or want for a physical photograph, which some of the younger folks using these things probably do.

IQ wise I remember them being basically alright. If you're comfortable paying whatever it is for 8 shots, then go for it.

You may as well get a 35mm film SLR that has auto modes on it

I recently got a Pentax p30 for £30 and it has a full auto mode, or aperture/shutter priority on it, plus you have the manual option incase you wanna use it too

>Bait?

No, just an uninformed retard/pleb. It just seems like an easy gateway to film point and shooting to me.

tell me everything you know about taking shots of portraits

some chick asked me for a photo shoot of her in a few days and I am just a dumb ass with a cheap camera, but she will pay me some cash (not much, but, anything helps), so I might as well try my best

tell everything, common mistakes, what to do and what not to do. My camera is a Nikon D3300 with the basic 18 - 55mm kit lens.

thank you /p/

focus on eyes, don't use a shallow DoF, anything going for f4 and f5.6 would be fine. mind your composition.

Edition
remember to give her a natural skin tone, also you can soft her skin in photoshop using gaussian blur, or in lightroom removing contrast from her skin. add some little exposure to her eyes and darken her iris.

I think the basic could be it, so far I remember. I'm learning portraits
>>
>>2874499

is this a bait post?

>don't use shallow dof for basic portraits

Going to have to see some work for you to back this up. Why are you suggesting this to a total beginner?

It requires way more skill to pull off, and to 99% of people will see the end result as the same or less impressive than shallow-DOF shots.

not even going to touch your questionable pp process.

I think noise is a lot more acceptable than most people generally do. I feel that as years go on digital noise will start to be appreciated the same way film grain is. Its a sort of natural artifact of the process that affects the image in a way that is distinct from human vision.

I really need the image taken off this jpeg and put on an actual png background , any one got the skills for that?

First things first: Read the fucking sticky you illiterate degenerate cunt.

Second, even though you are too fucking lazy to read a simple few words before posting, I'll give you some basic advice.

Photos are interesting because of the subject, not because of post processing. Processing can enhance a good photo, but it can't make a boring photo more interesting. You want your photos to be interesting? Take interesting photos.

Should I continue with art school with a photo major, or switch to computer information technology?

What kind of stuff could I look for right out of college? Would it be more stable to get a computer job and do photography in my free time?

Have any of you gone to art school? Do you feel like you got value out of it?

Sorry if this gets asked a lot but I have 6 weeks until my second year starts and I would like to hear any and all opinions. Thank you.

Do you enjoy it? It sounds like you've made up your mind. I'd quote that Sartre thing about a student choosing about war and his mother but I'm going to passively aggressively reference it instead

RE: jobs - research it.
>>
did a film major myself and it was a big waste of time.

90% of what I learned was from actually going out and making short films with friends, and just analyzing films in my free time.

trust me, if you're paying big bucks to go to school, at least make sure the degree is worthwhile. You could always just walk in to the lectures you want to learn from with good professors.

I honestly haven't lurked enough to know if /p/ is pro or anti art school, so I am really not sure what advice I'm going to get here.

Photography has been an interest of mine since early high school, in which I was very involved in it, but some people / websites / articles make a BFA seem like a death wish, so I was trying to see if anyone here has gone through it.

I feel like I did a bad thing....

I've been to events and protests with a long lens and always jokingly said that I hope that shit would kick off and I could get a photo that would make national newspapers, but of course it never did. However today I passed by a traffic collision and had my gear on me (new self resolution) and straight away pushed forward and snapped away. The fireman asked me who I was with, and he let me continue when I said I'm freelancing.

But then on the way home before I sent them to my local newspaper, I started feeling... really...

well he's starting with great images right out of the camera because he's using a full frame mark II with 50mm 1.2 glass.
Then it looks like he used VCSO or some other filter in Lightroom to get the muted colors / vintage look.
Doesn't hurt that he's got some great automotive subjects willing to patiently model for him, either.

I would like to hear your opinions about my photography.

There's not really anything good about it from a technical standpoint. It draws my eyes down the path for a second and leads my eyes to.. nothing. There's not a real subject so it has pretty much zero visual interest. The buildings in the corner are unnecessary and should have been cropped out. Also there is tons of green in the trees that is so bright that it almost hurts my eyes to look at. Maybe if it wasn't so bright and lacking in detail you could have said you were going for the color but thats...

I see a lot of shots from the zoo that are framed in a way that you would think the sumbitch was crawling through to savannah on his stomach to sneak up on lions and gerafs and shit, so from that I take it that a picture from the zoo can be improved my making it look like it was not taken at a zoo.

Looks a bit underexposed.

Also, perhaps you could experiment with shutter speeds to get a bit of blur, suggesting the awesome power of the giraffe rectum and giving a feeling of speed and urgency to the feces, frantically plummeting down to seed the earth.

PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS HELP

I've been working very hard building my business. It takes a ton of time, selling myself and admin work. I spend about 10% of my time actually taking photographs.

I have a stylist i use a lot because she works with real big jobs and has a great rate. most people don't have a good understanding of wardrobe for a photo shoot.

I spoke to my main stylist about a big client i have coming up and about how said client and friends make up most of my business. I asked her to please take care of everything wardrobe related for me.

LONG...

What do you mean by you are MAKING the stylist $700? Are you getting the client to pay for her services or are you paying her yourself?

I am going to approach it as you are paying her yourself because 1. You should be paying the stylist NOT the client

So with that said.. First accept responsibility for the fuck up, you should have known what the fuck was going on, but this is something you will (should) learn as your business grows. Having fucked up this job, dont fucking let it happen again and stay...

good job, you know how to use the word fuck.

The clients come to me wanting to shoot. I offer my stylists services and tell them her rate, give her website and they usually hire her. so yeah
the fucking stylist wouldn't be working that day without me.

I initially asked the stylist a few weeks ago, no response then i followed up with a phone call. she apologized, i explained to her the gravity of this one particular client, she wants to change the date and said she'd communicate with the...

I took a trip with my mom to Chile last summer. It's like January, we said 'hasta luego' to the 44ºC heat we had at São Paulo and Santos, and greeted the 10ºC and lower that are common in Andes, Patagonia and Magallanes.
I'll be uploading some of the photos and snaps I took with my Nikon D7000 in this trip.
