Seriously what the fuck are the best lenses for my Canon 80D??? every good lens is for full frame. sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 dc hsm 'art' seems to be the only lens that anyone can recommend at $700 and it's barely better than my 18-135 USM Kit lens.

So? It'll still work on your camera.

Can't have one of these threads without mentioning Julius Shulman. His stuff doesn't look that incredible in today's context, but he really revolutionized the art.

My dad is an architect and met Shulman a few years before he died, and has a book signed by him somewhere. I'm kind of sad I wasn't able to go to that signing.

Hey guys,

Looking at upgrading to full frame.

Anyone have opinions on these two cameras?

I don't know which to go for...

Leaning towards the D750 but I'm wondering is the extra €500 worth it

likewise. Right now I could get the D810 for the same price as the Df, and I'm not certain the Df does anything better.

The interface is a clusterfuck and it feels terrible in the hand, though, plus it's overpriced. A small body with the D4 sensor would be the ideal camera for me, but the Df doesn't cut it.

Yeah, it's hard to see much else once landscape and portraits are eliminated. That's literally "I don't like pretty settings or pretty people" so it can't just be an appealing picture, and no "my own photographic voice" so it can't be artsy, you're really just left with "so you want the news?"

All the Sony shills on this board love calling Fuji cameras the 'poor man's Leica', but I am really failing to see how such a comparison is remotely analogous. Anyone who knows anything about cameras will agree that the X-Pro series is the spiritual successor to the Contax G system.

108 KB,
Just casually been reading about street photography and Bruce Davidson.

1.) Do I need a certain camera for this style? e.g. small?

2.) Is it hard to get photographs published in a book?

I've moved to a new area and I'm seeing it with inquisitive eyes. I'd like to photograph the essence of the area and try and get the pics published.

1. Literally anyone can publish a book in CURRENT_YEAR.

2. You can use literally any camera for street photography. You typically wanna use something smaller as to not draw attention to yourself, though.

3. Learn how to use Google. sage.
>>
1. If you look beyond Bruce Davidson, you'll see that there are a variety of types of "street photography", with different gear involved. It all depends on what you want, how you view photography itself, and especially how you view what it is you're photographing. Some people think large format cameras do the best at capturing "essences". Some think otherwise. What is an essence anyway?

2. If by published you also mean famous, yes. It takes work.

There's no guarantee you'll get published by doing passionate work. Just do...

Thank you, both good answers. I feel that photography has taken a knock since instagram and mobile phone filters have arrived.
They're not competition right? Everyone seems to think themself a photographer these days.

Also are there any privacy laws with street photography?

need advice on a new camera... I've had a Canon 40D, Nikon D7000, currently have Olympus Em5. I love the m43 system, but I'm ready to move along to try something new. I've been looking at the Sony a7s (original) or the a6300 because they are similar in price on ebay. I shoot only Primes in the 35mm, 50mm and 90mm equivalent territory + or - a few mm. help me decide

Between the a7s or the a6300, I'd say go for the a6300 for sure. More features, better resolution, and can do 4k video without an external recorder. If you can, I'd highly recommend getting a native sony lens to be able to take advantage of the great focus features of the a6300. Unless you need fullframe, which doesn't seem to be the case, based on your past cameras. a6300 is the way to go. The only downfall of the a6300 vs the a7s is the smaller sensor, but that's not really a big deal.

Damn, what does that D7000 Blaze skin go for on the Steam Marketplace?

I actually think some non-standard colors are cool on cameras. I've always thought that there might be a market for Nikon or Canon pro bodies in flat tan or olive drab, if nothing else they'd sell to combat photogs.

131 KB,
Making a new thread because I can't just squeeze this into the gear thread.

So I'm in some kind of a photography rut. I started photography with a 50-200 zoom lens and never went below that. Most of my subjects were moving or at a distance and it felt just right, even went more into long range with 300mm, 400mm and a 1.4x TC.
Now I'm feeling it is becomig boring but whenever I use my wide to standard zoom lens I tend to use only the long end, and I finally started to figure out my problem.
Since I started with long lens I developed a certain sense that depends on the subjects movement, keeping a sort of mini-camera in my head running and seizing the moment to get a snap. When I use wide angle I just can't picture the scene in my head, I always focus on the smaller details, never getting a full frame in my head. Whatever I do I just can't get my head wrapped around the wide angle scene to make a composition.
How do you guys deal with wide angle, how do you make the composition? Does anyone have any idea how to do some sort of mental exercise for the wide scenes? Without cutting my own head off?
Alternatively, wide angle thread to get the inspiration flowing.
OP photo is obviously not mine, but doing some landscape would be a nice break from squatting at the track.

Yeah man, and immediately they focus on the small and distant detail.
I work as an engineer and my day-to-day work relies on me focusing on details and piecing together small stuff to make the "big part". I know it sounds cryptic but when I'm working on an integral part of an engine I usually determine crystalline structures and atomic structures. I'm just not really familiar with the concept of taking in a wide scene.
This is what I want to change and it is driving me nuts.

Because those things only matter when you actually take photos. /p/ talks about the photos they COULD take, if the situation ever came up. But it rarely does, sitting in your living room arguing about scanning techniques.

Who would argue about scanning techniques on /p/? Sony doesn't make films and literally nobody uses film cameras.
