Hello. Can we have sage back on /jp/? There was no reason to remove it. The board has been using it for several years in its intended way (when posting something not worthy of bumping the thread). We got a core part of our culture removed just because other boards didn't know how to behave themselves and sage bombed threads. I know sage is technically still around but of course what I mean is that it would be nice to see it being visible on /jp/ again. You already added sjis to the board anyway
Doesn't making sage visible go against the point of sage itself? You're meant to use it to not bump threads because a post doesn't warrant a bump, so isn't it counter intuitive that a feature meant to be inconspicuous and not draw attention be visible?
Sage was always visible. Even on Futaba and 2ch. Otherwise I agree with you, whether or not it's visible doesn't matter. And OP is a faggot for considering something as simple as whether or not sage is visible "part of the culture".
OP, you're on a discussion board, not a tribal group in the jungle. You have no fucking culture. And sage being invisible doesn't take away its function. If something that petty is part of your culture then take a long hard look at it and decide whether... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>338481 >OP, you're on a discussion board, not a tribal group in the jungle. You have no fucking culture. You don't seem to understand the concept of culture. Every board has its own culture, even if this culture breaches the rules. This goes for any sort of social group, no matter how simplistic it is. You're stuck in a false dichotomy of "real" and "virtual". >And sage being invisible doesn't take away its function. Reread... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>data mining You mean archiving? It's been around since the summer, before Hiro. That site archives posts but swaps around the format and claims the content is its own forum, and runs ads to try to make a quick buck. Don't even bring traffic to it.
>This board is for the discussion of news, world events, political issues, and other related topics
>The variety of threads allowed here are very flexible and we believe in freedom of speech, but we expect a high level of discourse befitting of the board
How do these statements gel with the introduction of flags and forced IDs, both of which are proven to encourage shitposting and lower the discourse on any board they are introduced to? You only have to look at /his/, another board for the discussion of culture and world events, to see how the quality of discussion is improved through removal of IDs and flags.
Moot added flags and forced IDs to "punish" /pol/ due to its exposing of his affair with [REDACTED]. He knew it would lead to a) shitposting about flags subsuming real discussion and b) reducing the quality and complexity of discussion by forcing everybody to maintain a consistent line of thought in a thread, rather than allowing each post to stand on its own merits (i.e. 4chan's point of difference).
We need to remove IDs and flags. We need to allow /pol/ to flourish as a place for free discussion, where posts are discussed based on the validity of the ideas expressed - not on whether the dominant cultural narrative finds them acceptable, not based on what country the poster is from, and not based on one's post history.
Why are we so scared of having a board where people can discuss world events, political issues, etc. freely? Why are we allowing /pol/ to be ruined?
>>338297 IDs facilitate discussion, lack of them encourages taking multiple sides to try to simulate cancerous arguments, accusations of samefagging designed to derail threads. If you're complaining that moot implemented the flags for his own reasons, then there's no point in appealing to moot's earlier comments about his love for posting as full anon.
>>338346 >lack of them encourages taking multiple sides to try to simulate cancerous arguments What? That makes no sense? Why are you even on 4chan if you dislike the concept of anonymous posting?
A lack of IDs allows each post to stand alone and be judged on its content. You don't need to worry if people are "taking multiple sides" because there is no continuous identity on 4chan - you can judge each post on its merits, it doesn't matter if somebody posted from multiple... >>338356 >What? That makes no sense? Why are you even on 4chan if you dislike the concept of anonymous posting? I'm pretty anonymous on /pol/, just not within the same thread. I can't open a thread with one of the deformed kids advocating eugenics and then pretend to be a butthurt prolifer. On the other hand, I can certainly explore both sides of the issue by being clear that that's what I'm doing, or not taking a firm position. We're not diminished by losing that one... We don't have evidence for neither side of the argument, but why wouldn't they? They can reach a very large audience and give themselves visibility with low effort, and most importantly trigger viral phenomena easily enough. If I were the marketing planner of some company which sells stuff somewhat related to the topics of a big board here, I'd include 4chan in the viral marketing targets
Not going to lie, but back in my shitposting days I would pretend to be a marketer by making positive/hype threads on /v/ for a game. Also making posts defending a game and "accidentally" throwing in a "we" or "our" to make people take the bait.
One thing about basically any internet community is that people will always cease upon a "gotch-ya" moment.
As >>338186 said, we don't have any conclusive evidence. Although,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
A board named Random isn't meant to have 1 to 2 thirds of it full of porn stuff right? Create either a Worksafe Random or transfer the current state of /b/ to /trash/. Please Hiro, /b/ along with some boards is the soul of 4chan. The board doesn't deserve this. It used to be fun, now it isn't.
