So it seems about,28 countries in the world have banned GM products, mostly in EU. Can someone tell me the rational?
http://sustainablepulse.com/2015/10/22/gm-crops-now-banned-in-36-countries-worldwide-sustainable-pulse-research/#.WBKUmvorI2w

From my knowledge of molecular biology and genetics, it seems the problem that people have with GMO is the idea of inserting advantageous genes (DNA sequences) from other species into plants. It is especially off putting to them because these genes are from bacteria. Is this not an over reaction considering all organisms share...

I feel gmo's are totally fine and it's just the media hyping shit up like they always do. This is probably the only way we can continue to feed people in the future. I see where the concerns are but think about all the chicken the world eats. There is literally no way we can continue to keep up without them. New one... with an easy *VECTORS* equation...

What does pic related mean? I understand that I need to find the angle where the vectors are either coming from or going to B but how and why do you know to write A->B instead of B->A or B->C instead of C->B.

Looked in the markscheme and it came up with B->A and B->C

Any reason for this?

Does Newton's Laws of Motion prove or disprove the official story of 9/11?

First law: In an inertial reference frame, an object either remains at rest or continues to move at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by a net force.

Second law: In an inertial reference frame, the sum of the forces (F) on an object is equal to the mass (m) of that object multiplied by the acceleration (a) of the object: F = ma.

Third law: When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction...

Well considering the height of the impact zone where the damage would of occurred, I have trouble seeing how the top section of roughly 15-20 floors could give in and proceed to plummet through 70-80 floors. it is especially concerning when you consider the support systems, designed to with stand three times the weight of the tower were destroyed in this floor-based collapse. Redpill me on "data scientists".

Some of them work at my company but I've never had any direct contact with any of them, however from what I've seen, it seems that they're literally not doing anything -- ever. As your article suggests, "data science" is basically the business buzzword of the decade, so depending on your company you may find "data scientists" working on everything from data acquisition to data preprocessing, data warehousing, data cleaning, data analysis, data visualization, forecasting and even data-driven (i.e. evidence-based) policy recommendation.
Don't expect HR to know the difference.

The more tasks a "data scientist" handles simultaneously, the more indispensable...

All scientists and enlightened humans must squat to shit.

Scientifically studied the benefits are:
- Less time to shit
- Cleaner shits with less required TP

Both the time needed for sensation of satisfactory bowel emptying and the degree of subjectively assessed straining in the squatting position were reduced sharply in all volunteers compared with both sitting positions (P < 0.0001). In conclusion, the present study confirmed that sensation of satisfactory bowel emptying in...

Sitting to shit is a sign of humanity's poor IQ and poor intelligence to adapt to better things.

Because the first designs constructed had a "sitting position" it just stuck. While squating is far superior of a posture for expelling waste quickly and cleanly.

You have literally SPENT days or weeks of your life pushing out shits and cleaning up messes you could have done in a fraction of the time. Not to mention less painfully and with less side effects.

Practice problems in your textbook and online. Literally just google "(topic here) practice" and you'll find a lot. Also check out Openstax's chemistry textbook. It's free.

Hey /sci/, undergrad baby here. I'm currently in my sophomore year doing a double major in math and cs. I was reading Hardy's "A Mathematician's Apology" yesterday, and I was wondering what you guys think of it.

Personally I think there's some truth to freshness, spontaneity, and power of youth, but like most things in life, the lack thereof doesn't wholly determine what you can and cannot do. That could just be my naivety and wishful thinking, though.

>That could just be my naivety and wishful thinking, though.

If you're not wired for higher math by your early 20s, it's really hard to overcome. There are some cognitive skills that don't peak until later in life, but sheer mathematical aptitude peaks for most people in their late teens.

Hardy's quote is pretty stupid. It's mostly not true and as far as it is true it applies to literally everything, not just mathematics.

Look at any field of society at all. How often do the paradigm-shifting ideas come from some old codger? It's not as though a switch flips and all your mathematical talent disappears past 60, it's that generally speaking old people like things as they were and don't want to flip the world on it's head.

The (dubiously true in the first place)...

How does one do this? Was Bill on crack??

Does anyone know if it's even effective to study after a certain amount of hours? Isn't there a magic number of study hours in which the brain stops retaining a fair bit of knowledge?

>Isn't there a magic number of study hours in which the brain stops retaining a fair bit of knowledge?

For me that number seems to be like couple of minutes.

Usually I study for a normal period of time but whenever I have a breakthrough, a great idea, I'll get consumed by it and go at it for so long that I can no longer tell whether it's day or night. I just keep going back and forth from working to eating until I collapse.

If you measure the speed of a car using police radar, are you affecting its speed?

The debroglie wavelength of the car is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too big to make a measurable difference.
>>
>>8444798
But the difference exists?
Why does it happen? Does it happen only with things that involve electromagnetic waves?
>>
>>8444803
The waves he is talking about are material waves not em. It happens because the photon you're sending to the car exchanges momentum with it, however at these levels, given your macroscopic measurement apparatus there'd be noticeable difference.

MD-PhD student here, on first year of my break. I was hoping to have a few less stressful years after the crazy amount of work I had to put to get here, so far my hopes haven't been panning out, but I'm just starting.

As for Emergency Medicine, I don't know what country you live in and how it is like there, but in my country it's extremely stressful. You always have things to worry about, never having real free time, always running around, pretty harsh on your personal life. A lot of people...

Can Darwin's evolution theory be proved?

And I mean PROVED. Not "yeah we got similar genes so probably" but "YES, because of this and that"

*proven

no

evolution = mutation X survival of the fittest
which both are proven by science and even observable in nature by everyone.

Sorry, I used the wrong words.

Can the theory that humans evolved from ancient creatures such as the chimpanzee be proven? Such as the image I posted.
