Why have I seen memers on /sci/ praise this book? I just read the chapter on rotational motion of rigid bodies, and Taylor doesn't even go over inertia tensor transformations. That's sort of important for a practical working knowledge of rigid body mechanics. On a side note, are there any texts that have descent coverage on that topic?
Hi, I'm so tired of hearing people suggest "hurr durr, why don't you put solar panels on your drone/car/whatever, then you don't need energy hurr..."
so here I made some calculations (numbers may be off, I just took the first source I found for everything too lazy to search around for ages).
From a random source I found that the light intensity from the sun is roughly 1300W/m^2 (i.e. 1300 J/(s*m^2) ) Normally solar panels have around 20-40% efficiency but just for the lulz lets assume ours has 100%.
A small crappy electric... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Solar power on a drone makes sense since it means the drone can be inert in the field charging up its batteries. I agree that solar cells on a car is pretty daft, but if you can overcome implementation issues I dont think it does any harm.
I get that you're wary of hype, but you come off as being contrarian rather than skeptical.
>>7755823 sure you wont be able to run a car off the solar panels but you extend the range (if the energy gained from having a solar panels is larger than the energy required to carry the panels) and allows you to recharge the batteries for 'free' or away from a charging point.
>A broken clock is right two times every day What if my clock (B) was broken in such a way that it ran at 1.5x the speed of a reference clock (A)? How many times on average would it he correct every day? What if my clock (B) ran in reverse at half the speed of clock (A)? What if clock (B) accelerated over time at a rate of X^2? Can you generalize this into a formula to determine the maximum, minimum, and average number of times clock (B) would be correct with respect to clock (A) on any given day?
>particles are way too small for us to see or feel >can't prove they even exist >uses machine that can "smash" particles together >shows us computer generated images of squiggily lines and bright colors >call the picture "god particle"
Tell me again how higgs boson isn't just a big ruse.
>>7755571 Make a set of instruments that can feel the particles, based on decades of research and development. Can now prove they exist (or not, which is more interesting). Use a machine that can smash particles together based on decades of research and development. Show images generated using the output of the instruments to give something to the people who want to feel smart but who wont read the research papers generated that will have the actual results and what they mean. Specifically steels. Technically this is /k/ related, but the question is really a metallurgical one. If I wanted to manufacture a gas piston-like device for a rifle meant to receive a small volume of high temperature, high pressure gas (peak of ~20000PSI for around 6 milliseconds) while resisting rust, ablative wear, heat cycling, and standard abrasive friction wear, what kind of stainless would I need?
Keep in mind, being easy to machine would be a bonus. I was thinking 440F (free machining 440 stainless), but data sheet indicates... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>7755356 So when you're tasked to go to the bakery and find out if its possible to have a cake with fruit filling, vanilla topping, with or without sprinkles, you walk into a bakery and go "I want a cake please"?
