I'm fascinated how eloquent and profound a lot of speakers are. Particularly philosophers, scientists, etc. I'm also jealous. Is it simply speaks from a place of passion, experience and research that makes someone sound so good?
The most adequate studying methods to study math and anything.
Why is it so common students lack proper sleep, study poorly hours and hours a day, even though the evidence is overwhelming that proper sleep is crucial for effective learning? Why study 16 hours a day shitty, when you could study 2 hours effectively and keep it interesting and get better results?
I'm studying biology, and there's so much fucking shit I have to memorize and learn......Fuck.
I honestly have a lot more respect for Ron Paul, Rand Paul, and Ben Carson now.
I'm thinking about them as I'm struggling through some of this shit - how they had to get good grades to in this field is crazy as fuck. A lot of you guys don't know how smart they really are, for real
I've smoked a fair bit of weed in my day but no matter how much good shit you smoke it doesn't compare to real psychedelics.
"greening out" is just where you get sick, or you can even pass out. once when I smoked a bunch while on a few adderall I had excessive ear ringing, everything went brown (blurry, darkened vision) and I couldn't think at all, went away after a few minutes.
all in all I'm convinced cannabis in excess is bad for your heart, teeth, gums, vitamins/nutrients and cognitive ability.
>>8221568 Trust me when you have zero tolerance after months without and take a large, large dose of oil, it's psychedelic and psychedelic like for sure, there is no doubt, literally I'm having open eye visuals right now
You can trip pretty hard on cannabis. This is coming from somebody who's done DMT, taken a legendary amount of shrooms in his lifetime, and generally tripped the fuck out a lot on a lot of things.
If your tolerance is low enough and the weed is strong enough, you can have full-on hallucinations with your eyes closed. This is true whether you're fried already or not. Once you've been far out enough on psychedelics, or if you've done them recently, weed can call forth some of that psych's effects. If you're permanently fried enough, tripping... Comment too long. When you think about it we actually have no way of knowing whether or not anything other than ourselves actually exists. We get all of our information from our senses, which are inherently flawed, the universe is little more than an illusion. When will the world of science realize this?
The reason I do science and Engineering is because I personally find it fun and interesting. Plenty of people talk about how science is for the "advancement of humanity" but me and my colleagues agree that the only reason we have the careers that we do is because it's just something that we find interesting. Humans are hard wired to like finding out new things.
>>8221454 This is what Descartes was trying to establish when he said "I think there for I am." The only thing we can be certain of is that we exist, everything else is mere speculation. With that being said, I think Descartes was trying to weed-out all the bullshit, and establish a line of reasoning behind philosophy and mathematics, establish the basis of our knowledge, which we then built on
>>8221213 >Red pill me on NMR Rotating magnetic fields cause the dipole moment of the nucleus to flip back and force at a particular frequency. This causes it to radiate when it flips to a state that is parallel to an established (static) magnetic field. In MRI machines, this static field is given a gradient so that the radiation's energy (which varies with the field) can be analyzed and the nucleus that radiated it can be located. The emission rate is only high near a chosen resonance frequency,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
what's the minimum electrical theory i have to know to do electronics repair? i'm a maths major but i've always wanted to be handy with electronics. any book recommendations for the most basic electrical theory and electronics? i don't want to be dealing with surface integrals or anything just to learn how to fix a motherboard
>>8220774 I have the 15th Barnes & Nobel edition from 2010, I'm not sure how much of the science has been updated but I'm hoping it's legitimate because imo it's written in a much more interesting way than the more official modern med school textbooks
But a new study has suggested it may be possible to predict a person's academic achievement by looking at their DNA alone.
Researchers have developed a new genetic scoring technique that explains almost 10 per cent of the differences between children's educational attainment by the age of... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
A genome-wide polygenic score (GPS), derived from a 2013 genome-wide association study (N=127,000), explained 2% of the variance in total years of education (EduYears). In a follow-up study (N=329,000), a new EduYears GPS explains up to 4%. Here, we tested the association between this latest EduYears GPS and educational achievement scores at ages 7, 12 and 16 in an independent sample of 5825 UK individuals. We found that EduYears GPS explained greater amounts of variance in educational achievement over time, up to 9% at age 16, accounting for 15% of the heritable variance. This is the strongest GPS prediction to date for quantitative behavioral traits. Individuals in the highest and lowest GPS septiles differed by a whole school grade at age 16. Furthermore, EduYears GPS was associated with general cognitive ability (~3.5%) and family socioeconomic status (~7%). There was no evidence of an interaction between EduYears GPS and family socioeconomic status on educational achievement or on general cognitive ability. These results are a harbinger of future widespread use of GPS to predict genetic risk and resilience in the social and behavioral sciences. Post your major and a picture of your uni grades. If by the time this thread loses momentum you hold the lowest grades then you just have to kill yourself. No joke, this is a fucking competition. You fail, you kill yourself.
LETS GET THIS FUCKING STARTED.
By the way, that 2.89 is on a 0 - 3 scale so my 'GPA' would be 3.85
How can there be people like Engineers who can believe the moon landing was a fake? I can understand crazy people, attention seekers and conspiratards believing it but how do educated people fall for this meme?
I just spoke to a mechanical engineer who told me he thinks he was faked.
What does /sci/ thinks about it?Yes I googled it already and while most scientists says that it matter how its rewired(if even true) rather than size does it mean that having above average size means that you have higher chance for your brain to be better wire.
>>8220215 There is at least a 0.3 correlation. Another anon linked another study which indicated over a 0.8 correlation. Look at pictures of members from the Mega and Triple Nine society. They all have way larger heads than normal. Regarding forehead size this may be confused due to hair lines so is not the best determinate for cranial volume.
>>8220228 Continued: Have a high intelligence is present both from having a good mental mapping and a good cranial capacity. Since there is not too much deviance in brain mapping, aside from certain extremes of verbal intelligence (ie.: vocabulary), cranial capacity is a good measure of giving a rough estimate of one's intelligence. This is of course excluding outliers resulting from mental diseases or brain cell death via results from, say, drugs.
>You are now aware that thousands of years ago people were just as smart as they are now and that the massive historical and technological gaps are due almost entirely to an infectious disease that makes people into retards and because we have been in a cold period this disease has laid dormant in Antarctica but recently it has thawed and entered into the closest countries(South America). This also explains why the dawn of man began when we ran to cold areas, where the Zika could not make us stupid. Prepare for the next cave man era. If we don't successfully... Comment too long. Last night, I fell trying to walk to my steps in the dark and I basically hit myself in the brow/forehead in pic related. I don't have a concussion. My pupils weren't looking weird, it was bloody, ran down my nose a bit, but after pressing it down with a soapy wash cloth, it stopped 95% of the bleeding. It was a bit swollen and purple last night, and still today it is a tad swollen and I'll put ice on it now.

>>8219966 I have aspergers, so I get very bad anxiety over things like this. You really think it will just scar over and that will be the end of it? I'm putting an ice pack on it right now for the swelling that came back since I stopped.
>>8219828 I work in a reasearch field that needs a lot of helium to function and I'd say the examples here are minimal compared to the waste in MRI machines. They are likely the biggest source of wasted helium use followed by industrial/computer manufacturing.
I'm a MENSA member, IQ of 154 and I fail in any aspect of life. Total failure. I've never accomplished anything, specialized in anything etc. Just took this stupid test and joined the organization. I like science. Any advises ?
Its the best "stackable" shape to maximize storage, from a surface area point of view. Its also the most corners you can have before the structural integrity is compromised, ignoring circles, but those arent good for "stacking."
Imagine a square, sitting on a piece of paper and talking to his friend, Ms. Circle. As their universe is infinitely thin, Mr. Square would only see a line segment of Ms. Circle, even though that's not the shape she is. A two dimensional object cannot "see" two dimensions-- only one. Likewise, three dimensional humans cannot actually see three dimensions, only two dimensions at a time.
Here's where it starts to get cool. If Mr. Square was falsely convicted of grand larceny and had to go to Square Penitentiary, we could say "oh, you can easily... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I used to think about exactly this all the time when i was like 14 or 15. After that I moved on to time travel, all the structures of how it could work and what the consequences would be for each structure.
