Is it scientifically possible to measure the intensity of pain?
If it is, then what is the objectively most painful form of torture?
>Is it scientifically possible to measure the intensity of pain?
Yes: here you go, no brain scanners or other plecebo bullshit that impresses plebs required.
Where can I get books? Links in the sticky don't work anymore, those fuckers shut them all down. ebookee.org is the only website I can find.
>Apate is real
>a japanese anime studio called Gainax predicted this long before Caltech in its show Houkago no Pleiades
/a/ beat /sci/ in this one.
But anyway, we always knew there was something out there in the Oort cloud which explains weird orbits of things like sedna through gravitational protuberance. This is nothing new. It aint no nibiru though.
its normal to shred tears after taking anesthesia on a frontal tooth?
Does anyone have any recommendations for books on number theory? I just ran into the proof that quadratic surds can be represented as periodic continued fractions and that caught my interest. There seems to be a bunch of gems in number theory that I am unfamiliar with. Please share other neat results from number theory in this thread too.

How does one into Real Anaylsis?
This is my first semester of taking this course and I literally have no idea what is going on. I excelled in all of my Calc classes as well as Linear algebra but from being in Real Analysis for a week its like learning a different language.
Is real analysis supposed to be extremely difficult right off the bat? Does it get easier?
Does anybody have any tips?
It's hard at first since it's likely you've never seen something like it before. It would probably be the first time you encounter the true rigour of mathematics.
But it gets easier once you get the hang of it

If we devoted all of the world's resources to space travel, how far would we be able to get in the next decade in terms of interstellar travel.
>Mfw the mean IQ of doctors in the U.S. is 114

Why learn Physics(Science)?
Why learn Math?
>Why learn Physics(Science)?
To understand the world
>Why learn Math?
To understand the mind of God
Come on, go ahead, prove that you're as smart as you all think you are
How did you force your self to learn math /sci/?
The concepts seem very simple but I can't make my self remember any of it knowing that it's probably the most useless information I can put into my brain.
Remembering some stupid fact about some random celebrity can still be used in normal conversations later on.
Remembering how to work with polynomial equation will never have any application after I finish the class.
How did you trick yourself into remembering this stuff?
Eat some glycine. Shit's good for memotizing(might be a placebo effect, though it works to me)
I'm not into math myself, it's just a trick for your memory.
P.S glycine is not dangerous at all, any dose will do.
fyi this is grad school
it sucks balls, don't expect to make friends
life is lonely
ur social life is kill
Wake up. Grad school is just a nihilist jerk off spree to see what student can unravel reality into the meaningless cesspool that it is. Grad school is a joke. It's a egotistical badge of honor. I got my BA and got the fuck out of the school system.
We are trying to reduce waste from sellafield and need to come up with an experiment of some sort. We have access to a cyclotron and access to a neutron bath.
We are drawing up blanks when it comes to finding something to test or carry out an experiment on. We do not have access to plutonium or uranium or highly radioactive waste/material.
Can anyone give us some ideas on what to do? We are looking at mainly the storage pools and the excess waste of plutonium. Any replies will be appreciated. Thank you.
Reduce which kind of waste? There is a huge range of stuff from waste material when making fuel to highly radioactive waste material from spent fuel and low level radioactive material such as used clothing.
Anyway, getting depleted uranium should not be too hard, there is a mountain of the stuff and people have no idea what to do with it.
Since I am a phycisist and have always wanted to exclaim "Stand back! I am a scientist!!" I'll offer a free suggestion: reduce waste by turning it to something useful.
Get some low level waste (avoid neutron...
