There simply is no greater pursuit for humanity.

Does SpaceX have the engineering capability to pull this off?
>>

In my humble opinion no they do not. We haven't even landed anything on there yet

Nah, it's not a "great pursuit," its a necessity.
existing on multiple planets is crucial to the species' survival

Underrated and obscured by corporatism or overrated by fan boys?
>>
What is up with teslas death ray? That shit is cool, i wish it was real.
>>
>>7792035
>obscured by corporatism
He's not obscure though. There's an SI unit named for him and he's huge in popular culture. He didn't get rich and famous like Edison, but there's only a handful of scientists and engineers who get that kind of success.

There's also over-inflation of his accomplishments. He did not invent DC power. DC power grids existed before he was even born.
>>
>>7792051
Do you think he was smarter than Edison?

>>

>>not realising they're using quantum entanglement to communicate at FTL speeds
Which is impossible.
>>
>>7791976
>>not realising they're using quantum entanglement to communicate at FTL speeds
You can't use quantum entanglement to communicate with.

>>not realising dark energy is used as optical camouflage
Dark energy is just a term for whatever it is that's causing the universe to accelerate faster and faster. I think you're confusing it with dark matter, and even then you're wrong.

>So is it...
>>
>>7791976
>>expecting advanced alien civilization to leave EM signatures

Why do we even do this? The inverse square law makes an EM signature too weak to be noticeable.

you can die in space but math is usually safe

Hey guys ill be starting to study mechanical engineering next month and i was wondering what math courses or how i can get better at math so i wont have trouble at school? what courses or what techniques do you guys use? thanks in advance
>>
I'm in my second semester of mechanical engineering. You need as much math as you can manage, through some good calculuses. I would recommend using Khan Academy to help you at least freshen up and get solid fundamentals.

Nice ass btw
>>
>>7791953
>as much math as you can manage

That's engineers for you folks.

>Nice ass btw

Nice priorities fapping to pictures instead of learning maths.
>>
>>7791962
Well yeah... I'm not OP, nor an engineer, but all of my maths were prereqs for physical chem/biochem, pharmacokinetics, and a physics minor. If you're not studying maths specifically, you really need to just pass the pure maths. The applied math in engineering and science is focused so narrowly. After completing the Calculus and Diff Eq/lin alg (math babby here), the math I do now you could train a child to do by running the same processes over and over.

i mixed lime sulfur with vinegar. did i poison myslef?
>>
Depends on the environment you're in and how hard you try to inhale whatever fumes are emitted
>>
>>7791811
it wasnt well ventilated but i tucked my nose inside my sweatshirt and keep away from it. the ph of the lime sulfur was around 9.5 and i brought it down to 6.8 with vinegar. i wore gloves
>>
>>7791811
the reason why i ask if its poisonous is because the mixture was at first a milky color. When i checked it today it turned clear and little bubbles formed alongside my spray bottle.

Hello,
Does anyone's university have a subscription to Annals of Internal Medicine by any chance?
I am looking for this paper: http://www.annals.org/article.aspx?volume=136&issue=2&page=89

But unfortunately my university doesn't have a subscription to this journal.

Would be very thankful for any help

Hey /sci/
I bought this years ago at a rock shop. I believe it is some kind of tooth of some prehistoric mammal.
Can you help me identify what it might be?
I'm trying to sell it, and need some info to go along with it.
Thanks

bro thats a stick

I have a little brother who's two year old and I'm wondering how I can get him interested in science, but I have no idea how.

Perhaps some of you might?
>>
I got interested in science after my dad bought me lots of books about space, as well as demonstrated some basic science experiments (such as making a homemade compass with needles, magnets and stuff).
Since then, I always wondered how things worked.
Also, radios and circuits can be fascinating too, so make sure to show him the basics.
I mean, do all this when he will be old enough to understand all this.
>>
Buy him the Cosmos documentary CD. But not the plebian version with smoke degrasse but the one with morgan freeman

>>
>>7791713
that epic feel when you draw a line i units long
>>
>>7791713
You cannot of a length of "i". Using the isomorphism $\mathbb{C} \cong {\mathbb{R}^2}$ you could roughly equate $i$ with the 2-tuple $\left( {\begin{array}{*{20}{c}} 0 \\ 1 \end{array}} \right)$. This is not a quantity that you can define as a length. The best you could do is a define as a length as the modulus of i, which is just 1.
