Ivan Zelich, 17 years old boy, has done something groundbreaking and his discovery is going to change the world drastically. This kid is the real deal, not Jacob Meme.

What are your achievements math guys? Shitposting on /sci/?

Lol. Butthurt you'll never have an IQ that high, OP? Its alright, maybe people smarter than you will discover a way to cope with living as a dummy :)

I looked at the paper they posted and its just shit euclidian geometry with no applications to be found. The paper is shit too.

One of my Indian friends went around with a NASA shirt on this Halloween...

He told everyone he was the inventor of the clock, and the 5 people who actually got the joke, loved it. I didn't expect him to do that because he's more conservative, but it was hilarious to me.

Pretty much this; my mother always sends me these shit articles because, "LEL MY SON'S A MATHEMATICIAN HAHAHAHA," and I found the actual paper and sent it to her with explanations as to why a 22-page paper with rather few proofs and some moderately interesting statements didn't really constitute a world-changing paper, and how overblown it had been by the article.

But, the everyman will always cling to whatever words his patron media god speaks into his ear.

WEW FUCKING PREDICTABLE /SCI/ IS TRASHING THE PAPER EVEN THOUGH THEY DON'T HOLD A CANDLE TO THIS GUY'S MATHS ABILITY.

Drop the superiority complex guys it's really not healthy. Yes there are people much smarter than you, yes you will likely never achieve anything significant in your own life because you are mediocre compared to actual academics, attacking those who achieve more than you won't change these facts. This entiere thread and board in factjust reeks at bitterness at being a "self styled genius" yet "for some reason", nobody else outside of maybe your family or first year calculus class sees you that way. Newsflash, just because you're the smartest guy in your class or whatever doesn't mean you're actually smart. Big fish in a small pond.

>tfw Xuming Liang was the real genius behind the Liang Zelich Theorem.

My guess is this Ivan guy just attached himself to Xuming's work and hyped it up well beyond the point of no return by telling everyone it would change the world with applications in teleportation, string theory, and other ridiculous shit.

>Fortunately, he and Xuming – a 17-year-old from San Diego he met in an online forum - could share the workload, with Ivan working throughout the day and his American counterpart taking over while the Australian slept.

>Ivan said: ‘Xuming was on a maths forum and I sent him the first message which said “nice solution but you can improve on it”.

>‘He was the only person I could find who I connected with mathematically.

>'I found out we were both working on the same problem at the same time but he was more geared towards one side of the geometry and I was more geared towards the algebraic and string theory side.

Almost the entire article is about Ivan. There's only a short blurb about Xuming at the very end.

>Despite his obvious gift for math, Xuming has played down his talents, saying he is 'medicore' at other subjects.

...

>'I hope to apply whatever skills I've developed over these years to pass on to future generations and help better the world.

>'As for interests, I also enjoy contemplating about the human mind and other psychological concepts.

>'Making some sort of a positive contribution to the world would be on the top of my list, as simple as that sounds.

>'Whether it's in math, or personal charity, I don't know yet, but it will always be a driving goal.'

>Asked if he felt like a genius, he added: ‘Not really, I always have areas in life that I desire to improve.'

Xuming sounds totally down to Earth. Whereas Ivan sounds totally schizophrenic. What's the deal?

stay mad betafags. Who cares that a 17 year old's paper hasn't changed the world. Implying that he will amount to nothing is obviously false.

How many of you guys had the opportunity to go to uni at 14? None? Rightttt

>>

>>7643278

Considering the standards that Universities operate at these days, going to Uni at 14 doesn't really mean much. Kind of like a Black doctor. His GPA was likely a solid point below his White and Asian peers. Personally, that frightens me a bit.

Holy fuck, my friend in the 7th grade did that. Said "Pi is equal to infinity because the digits go on forever". Literally did it only to fuck with teachers. The sad part is that they still agreed with him even when I said "3.anything is still less then 4".

>>

>>7644123

Thank you for this discovery, I've just read the slides and there are a lot of things to laugh about. Two examples: firstly the fact that he is using the Weierstrass factorization theorem as if it was a trivial result, and secondly (the most funny) he thinks that k*sin(1/k) tends to infinity when k tends to infinity (so that pi equals to infinity). Without this dumb error, he would have found that pi = pi/2 (because he made a mistake in his previous calculations). So if he was making such enormous mistakes in 2012, I don't really see how he would revolutionise mathematics in 2015.

>>

>is it something impressive

Question about his proof on pi=infinity:

If you take the limit of k->infinity in the final step of the proof, won't you obtain infinity*0? Applying l'Hôpital's rule for ill defined limits we obtain pi=180. Last time I checked this is pretty much true.

>>

>>7644970

No, l'Hoptial gives us sin(1/x)*x = sin(1/x) / (1/x) for x->infinity is equal to sin(t) / t for t->0. Now l'Hopital: cos(t)/1 for t->0 gives us 1 as a result. so he actually claims pi/2=pi. KEK
