sounders / montreal mls cup
calling it now
>thinking fc dull-ass has any sort of chance against obafemi martins
>thinking port"land" or va"nco"uver presents any sort of threat to the sounders at all
>not thinking drogba is going to pull a 2012 champions league and drag montreal single-handedly into the finals
>even thinking about supporting the ny blue balls
lets get real
I'd rather have another cascadia team win it than another canadian team tbqh. toronto can fuck right off (and now have, thankfully) and I'm still mad about that shit montreal pulled in the canadian championship about 6 years ago
sounders would have easily won the supporters shield had dempsey and martins been healthy for the whole season. they went on a 9 GAME LOSING STREAK without those two players losing a shit load of 1-0 games and still finished 4th. the seattle defense can absolutely pull it together, valdez is already fucking killing it, and the pappa/friberg combo will shit on your mom's tits.
>FC Dallas vs.Sounders
>all on the same day
Should be fun
>mfw I don't see my post posted but I still get it 99% right the second time
>tfw I went to bed right after the POR-SKC game started because I was tired af
>the city of Toronto
HAHAHAHAHAHAH HOLY FUCKKKK
HOW BAD CAN IT GET
LITTERALLY 100% OF THEIR SPORTS TEAMS ARE FUCKING SHIT
EVEN WITH SPENDING 20 MILLIONS ON GIOVINCO + BRADLEY +. ALTI THEY STILL GET BTFO BY A TEAM OF RETIRED EUROPEANS
FUCKING PATRICE BERNIER SCORED AGAINST THEM ANS HE'S LIKE 36
>yfw the league changed the rules so LA could sign Dos Santos, only for them to get eliminated in the first round
When one with a serious undiscovered heart condition (like some guy straight out of college or something) succumbs to it.
Or when a guy who suffers multiple concussions is allowed to repeatedly come back in and suffers a seizure then slips into a coma.
Or if Robbie Rodgers makes the USMNT for Russia 2018.
>the league changed the rules so LA could sign [insert player name here]
Another orbit around the solar system and we are right back where we started
This'll just be the Bestern version of RBNY-NYCFC. LAFC-NYCFC should be maximum cringe too.
>implying Guisados are the best tacos in LA
But of course some white hilltop faggots would think that.
Guisados is literally Hipster Gentrification: Tacos Edition.
Protip: if you are North of Florence Ave. buying tacos, those aren't the best tacos in LA.
Lord knows some fucking rich cunt aint' going South beyond Staple Center though.
Alright lads, I have a confession to make. I made the /NASL/ General yesterday just as a containment thread for NAShilL and friends. The whole thing was a meme, 1-2 people called it.
>Traffic Sports pic in OP
>"the league is growing exponentially - an absolutely unprecedented feat of the human spirit that inspires us all"
kek, but it did get over 100 posts and last way longer than I thought it would. Might have to contain shills more often.
What are the rules about this sort of thing, anyway? I mean, if someone on /v/ or /vg/ walked into a Halo thread and started bitching about how the PS4 was so much better than the X1, they'd get rid of that pretty quick, right? I even think the NASLbros have some decent points but the discussions are just so done by now nothing productive comes from it.
>tfw I started a fake general which eventually led to ridding our sacred land of filthy shills.
I should be in the HoF tbh fam.
this is like some ditzy girl breaking into your man cave and moving all your shit around, adding all her dumb bullshit and then telling you to just man up about it. bitch, you and your shit need to get the fuck out.
>a midfield of maidana/nogueira/barnetta/edu on paper should be one of the best in the league
Barnetta joined halfway and Edu spent half the year as a center back.
>is jim curtin a meme coach?
No, look at the rest of his team. There is 0 depth whatsoever. Fabinho sucks ass.
If they can add some decent defenders and forwards this offseason and keep Aristegueta they should be fine. They got rid of Sak which helps
a bunch of problems really. thankfully changes are being made and they're heading in the right direction. here's to next season
No, MLS has unbalanced schedule so the Supporter's Shield doesn't matter. If you want single table that's one thing but you can't declare them champions of league given the current schedule.
>MLS has unbalanced schedule so the Supporter's Shield doesn't matter
Not that guy (although a RBNY fan), but I love this argument because not only has there only been one balanced schedule season in the history of MLS, but the supporters actually went out of their way to create the shield. And yet, it somehow doesn't matter to anyone.
I'm a cup > all guy, but IMO, the Shield is a bigger accomplishment than the USOC.
>celebrating your 1 year anniversary when you don't even exist yet
>Montreal fans being dicks.
I now remember that these people are also Canadians.
Way too obvious, looks like most people in that thread just ignored your bait and were glad to find a lower leagues thread on /sp/.
Yeah, haven't seen in post in two years. Maybe Ted told him to stop posting on this site.
>PAYNE: I told them, “I don’t get this [Tampa Bay] ‘Mutiny’. What’s with the symbol?” They said, “Oh, it’s a mutant bat.” “Okay, what does that have to do with Mutiny?” “You know—Mutiny, mutant.” I said, “Those are two different words with completely different meanings. They just share some letters. What are you doing?”
>THOMAS RONGEN (Coach, Tampa Bay Mutiny): What the f---? A mutant bat? What are we representing? Nike must have had a few guys smoking dope, coming up with the craziest things.
I'm not even sure what a crew is. I just like how they are one of the few teams that aren't euroboo.
>pic related is a crew
I'd call them 50% yuroboo. Their new logo is obviously German-inspired and they added SC to the end of their name (but at least say it stands for Soccer Club).
their #1 fan roots for them regardless of their new name stills refers to them only as the crew.
U.S. sports were like the first adopters for family-friendly stadium environments though. There's no chance for authentic ultras here. Roma's ass-stabbers would be imprisoned after suffering the beating of their lives from cops in riot gear.
They were actually clubs back then though. A group of workers or neighbors who got together to play soccer on the weekends. Maybe there were some barnstormers too, although that was a mostly U.S./black thing.
Nowadays all these teams are franchises or, in the case of MLS, single-entity subsidiaries. They should be called Columbus Crew Ltd. or something.
They're all privately owned and operated outside of MLS and their USL reserves, though. If you drill down to NPSL and lower, the FCs and SCs are exactly what you describe.
So yeah, MLS teams are about as artificial as Applebee's, but that doesn't mean a non-corporate name is somehow un-American.
That's why I'm perfectly ok with NPSL teams naming theirselves FC or SC if it accurately reflects their organization.
I'm particularly a fan of AFC Cleveland, who say their AFC stands for A Fan's Club, since they're fan-owned.
MLS should stick to the Nike/U.S. pro sports leagues-style [city name] [nickname] imo
>their AFC stands for A Fan's Club
That's really cozy. I assumed it was Athletic Football Club and they were being Euroboos. This may be the first and only time I have ever been jealous of the city of Cleveland in any capacity.
>that doesn't mean a non-corporate name is somehow un-American.
MLS teams effectively aren't allowed to follow normal US sports naming because there are too many faggots who think we have to do thing the European way or it doesn't count. If an MLS team tried to name themselves Bears or Eagles or some shit everyone, even people who don't consider themselves Yurosnobs would come out against it.
We're stuck with FC/SC and even a meaningless Real or two all because American fans would rather see you pretend than be authentic.
we would realistically need 40-50k dollars to join the NPSL, could it be owned by the 4chan meme trust? We have the logo.
>the union is literally better than any NASL team name
At least we have an excuse if we lose, I guess. Has any other playoff team been hit by injuries this hard?
>tfw even though >we won the ss, are in the playoffs and are playing dshit, we won't sell out rba
>lowest payroll in the league
>the kids are all right
Feeling pretty good senpai to make a mockery of this league.
POST YFW DC UNITED WINS THE MLS CUP: HALLOWEEN EDITION
>thinking DC stands a chance against the Pink Cows
>the city of you
Funny thing is I'm still somewhat confident
We're like 5-3-1 against the remaining Western Conference playoff teams, some of those wins coming when we had pretty significant injury problems
>New York Red Bulls can't draw crowds
It's weird, because out of the 2 New York teams you guys are actually the less plastic ones, and Red Bull Arena is way better than Yankee Stadium for soccer. Maybe the problem is the name?
Technically it's not four wins; our only game at RFK this season was a 2-2 comeback draw
Even so, a non-scoreless draw does us good too. As long as we set ourselves up well for the return leg, I'll be satisfied.
I can't wait to stop caring about every other shitty team from here
>this will never go away
kill me senpai. why did she have to leave her house and go to that event. there was nothing else she had to do that day? didnt they get enough pics without her? why post hers? this is literally hurting more than it helps because of how ugly she is.
>tfw back to back to back to back playoff games
>tfw living around the corner from an ultracomfy soccer pub
Hurr look guys I said nigger. Aren't I edgy and cool senpai.
>refuses to pay players competitive wages or buy players worth them
>meme'd their way through the Bestern through chemistry and elite injury avoidance
>this is the MLELS you want to save
>prefers overpaid usmnt players and imports to homegrown players
it is a great storyline that nyrb and dallas, the two lowest payrolls in the league, won the points game. if they can make it to the final, it would be further validation. i'm thinking there is a happy medium that can be very successful
It's a horrible story. It speaks to a lack of ability to coach >superstars among the big clubs. Developing homegrown talent is great if they go on to achieve success on a higher stage, but if they're held hostage by MLS clubs that pay them wages you can barely live off in a major city, that's despicable. The MLS is the WNBA of U.S. men's sports leagues when it comes to salaries.
if this can happen with these low wages, imagine with higher ones.
probably spend less on the overpaid, underperforming superstars, and more on the lower end of the team.
anyway, wages are going up as it is, so we're getting there slowly.
You called it (even though it's not hard to go straight to ABS on /sp/).
I'm not butthurt about anything though. I'm disappointed that so many Sounders got injured this season, sure, but I'm not blaming anyone for it. I think we'll win this meme cup, but I won't blame any other team if we don't.
I'll only be able to imagine it, because the more this happens, the more unlikely it is.
Wages are going up from poverty standards, sure. There are still players whose wives have to work to support the family. PRO U.S. ATHLETES WHO AREN'T THE MEN OF THEIR HOUSE.
What makes you think wages are significantly raising? The MLS players' union is a joke. All that holdout talk is memespeak. They have no chance at defeating the single entity or USSF.
It is a league, but the ultimate winner is decided by a playoff series at the end of the season, with the draw for who faces who and who goes straight to the 2nd round decided by final league position. much like how promotion would work in many euro 2nd- and lower tiers if there were no automatic promotion positions.
there's a sort of trophy for finishing 1st in the regular season, but it's considered unimportant compared to actually winning the playoffs
>mfw the power of kwarasey couldn't stop the flu
portland/vancouver you mean? probably, although the whitecaps are in bad form and portland are probably a bit tired
this. only time I've ever heard it is from americans trying to mock canadians
My bad, misread the OP image. I guess I'll have to flick between them all but watched Toronto/Vancouver the other day and was impressed overall. Cheers lads.
Ah fucking hell, yeah that's the one. I enjoyed the bells after every goal, nice touch. Defending was truly appalling by Toronto but they really weren't that bad overall. Cheers all again.
>because no one ever posts an updated playoff bracket
>mfw Jermaine Jones nignogged the Revs to the MLS Cup finals in 2014
>mfw Drogba nignoggs the Impact to the MLS cup finals in 2015
That would be true for any other league
But this is MLS, where the top two finishers had the two lowest payrolls
You can't just throw money at a problem here and it will work out your problems
Maybe even if we do win the cup. Word on the street is Sigi is having health problems and is looking to retire soon. Winning the cup and going off into the sunset knowing the team is in good hands would be a great time to end a storied career
were keks and too cowardly to form our own league. We piggyback on the achievements of the US because we practice in our culture "the tall grass is the first to be cut". In canada its not about succeeding, its about making everyone else fail. We are nothing, a joke, a cancer.
In a way, youre right. Canadian history is the history of finding someone to blame for all of your problems. Whether it was the French, the metis, the americans, Stephen Harper, this country is so arrogant and yet so passive aggressive.
We would never tell americans to fuck off, because we are too weak and cowardly to go it alone, instead we have passive-aggressive media like comedians making fun of "idiot americans". Ask a Canadian to define an american and its always the same stupid "fat, racist, blah blah blah" and yet we are nothing without the USA, we would be as poor as mexico without the weather if america stopped buying out shit. We are so jealous of that need that all we can do is try to make fun of americans, what the fuck have canadians accomplished?
That's why the Canada soccer federation unsactioned it in 2013 (and also because all the teams were in Southern Ontario, so it wasn't exactly a national league).
This new league would open in 2017, until which there's no official Canadian national league. I'm not hopeful about it, since Canada hasn't been able to make any successful pro league in a sport the U.S. doesn't have one for already, but it's something.
>well actually, there's 3, but there's also a 4th player that you can pay over the salary cap, but you have to buy their salary down with TAM
>you do know there's a salary cap right?
>oh, TAM is this special allocation money. You'll get so much TAM over time, but you can spend it all at once
>what's allocation money you ask? Allocation money is
>you know what, let us get back to you on that
Biggest single reasons are the enormous distances between major population centers. The distance between Calgary and Toronto is the same distance as Lisbon Portugal to Minsk Belarus. And in between that there is only 1 city with more than 250K people.
The CSA has zero money, so I don't understand how they expect to attract talent befitting a pro league designation, especially when it'll have to directly compete with a far superior product already entrenched within the country's biggest cities. Does it really make sense to have a 'national' league that omits all of Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver? And if they do go into those cities, where are they going to play? A Vancouver canadian-league team tied to the CFL - would they also be playing in an already-obscenely-busy BC Place with a schedule directly conflicting with the Whitecaps? Who is going to seriously enjoy watching shit soccer in front of 2-3k people in a 55k-seat stadium when your city already has a far better draw playing in the same venue?
Nothing about it adds up.
kreis, like other mlels coaches, is fucking awful. Lampard, Pirlo and Villa should have been enough to domininate this meme league. Cant wait for a competent coach like Capello to show this meme league who is boss.
I've made a chart comparing continuity of coaches and number of playoff appearances
It's not as definite as I thought, but the trendline does show that more continuity correlates with playoff appearances.
No, I don't think it's his fault either; I'm just laughing at all the supporters who predicted their club would be a powerhouse. Now they're coachless. But "the best is yet to come", right?
Unless they're trying to follow the patented "Fire Coach, ????, Supporters Shield!" process, developed and perfected by the New York Red Bulls.
>Nothing about it adds up
Because the original idea was brought by Traffic Sports to the CSA, since both entities were already working together for a potential 2026 World Cup bid. Traffic Sports also had NASL involved in the planning of the league, since two potential markets (Edmonton and Ottawa) were already part of the NASL. Traffic Sports managed to convince some CFL owners to be part of this league.
Once the FIFA corruption scandal emerged, Traffic Sports was immediately out of the picture and NASL stepped down to focus on its own league expansion. Looks like the CSA and CFL still have plans to continue with establishing a Canadian League, with some help from Bell Media.
pure fucking class
i was there in the supporters end and TA goes DEAD QUIET when anyone scores on them
had a strange matchday cause i'm a naturalized sounders supporter and sat there in the heart of darkness silently cheering on for an skc win
that penalty series was absolutely RETARDED if you guys havent seen it yet
Henry hurt Petke more than anyone desu.
There's real questions about him being a good coach, or he just happened to have a strong roster. He'd still be an improvement for some teams.
Only thing that has me thinking otherwise is how Chris Caneti (AEG-kun) says how they plan to work the team around Cubo, but like you said if Owen Coyle is gonna stay and be able to produce, he's gonna build the team the way he wants to make this "Kinnear team" into the "Owen Coyle super brit/euro elite MLS team"
Please kek Paul Buckle for us, will you Sactown anon?
FC Dallas' goalkeeper is the supreme gentlemen.
You are now aware.
Nevermind, apparently the Dynamo are looking to put Cubo on the block because working a team around 1 player doesn't already sound retarded. Giles Barnes has signed a new contract with the team, who has also gained attention from a few other teams.
Also San Antonio confirmed to coming to MLS
San Antonio is in the works of coming closer to landing a spot in MLS.
The City of San Antonio is buying Toyota field, Spurs Sports and Entertainment will own soccer franchise.
Scorpions were also sold with Toyota Field.
for 21 million.
They will be moving from the NASL to USL.
All part of the move to MLS.
Wonder what the NASL shill has to say about this.
Pretty fucked up, but couldnt help laughing at the fact that this happened in NASL.
The Scorpions apparently have a ton of problems
Should have expected it when the initial rumors werenthe Spurs were going to buy the stadium and not the team
I can't believe how scummy these fucks are
"The other major problem in attracting players to the club is the lack of health insurance, with sources confirming that Scorpions players are not offered health insurance. While players who get injured on the field are covered that is minimal and there is no further health insurance offered to clubs, meaning that they need to acquire that insurance privately if they want coverage for themselves or their families.
Talking to sources outside of the Scorpions, this is unfortunately not an anomaly for the club, as it appears that most American NASL clubs behave like this. That is likely due to NASL standards, which don’t require any coverage of players or their families’ health insurance, which does not constitute a breach of the Affordable Care Act as very few clubs have 50 employees."
who thinks D.C. has a shot over New York. Are we totally fucked bros?
what bait? half the thread is shitposting about NASL
who got their shit kicked in? i'm happy San Antonio is leaving the league, shit meme team that is stupid enough to throw $100 million down the drain
Not really odd, considering this was the format CONCACAF planned on using to determine the two remaining Copa America Centenario spots. Good to see the rumors of CONCACAF changing the qualification method to give teams like Honduras and El Salvador a chance to qualify didn't come to fruition.
>the Fire have already interviewed former New York Red Bulls coach Mike Petke and U.S. Under-17 national team coach Richie Williams for the position, but it is believed Ramos is the preferred choice.
What the fuck?
Ramos already talked about focusing on being a technical director in the future and being content working at the USSF. Also the fact that the last youth national team coach to make a move to MLS (Wilmer Cabrera) is currently job less, it will be risky for Ramos to take a job at a team where he will get sacked if immediate results aren't obtained.
They all say that.
Is he really going to talk about complaints he has?
Things change. He has two huge losses in the last 2 months.
He's got a friend as the GM
Plus the reason Wilmer Cabrera doesn't have a job is because the club dissolved, nlt because he was fired.
>Plus the reason Wilmer Cabrera doesn't have a job is because the club dissolved, nlt because he was fired.
For the shitty team he had, he did an incredible job and deserved another opportunity at some other team. But that stigma of "Chivas USA's last years were shit" will stay with him. Same could happen with Ramos.
>He's got a friend as the GM
Except Rodriguez's boss isn't a complacent Gulati who doesn't give a shit about the youth national teams. Its an MLS owner who wants immediate improvement of his team.
>But that stigma of "Chivas USA's last years were shit" will stay with him
Wouldn't that have stuck to Nelson Rodriguez more?
>Its an MLS owner who wants immediate improvement of his team
True, but he'd have better job security than Kreis did at City
