I just got a couple of these for Christmas. I was planning on making a chapter of space marines but I couldn't decide on a name or color scheme So far I like hellfire angels or brimstone Angels either way I want to make the power armor a crimson red color with a silver lining across the trimming.
Post about X-Wing, Armada, FFG's Star Wars RPGs, d6, d20 (Saga), movies, shows, books, comics, vidya, Lego, lore and everything else Star Wars related, but remember not to criticize TFA and only express positive opinions in this diverse and inclusive safe space.
You are Second Lieutenant CT-42/458, and you are standing in General Kenobi's improvised command center, the basement of an obsolete concrete bunker.
Six hours ago AT-TE 7330, the hastily repaired TX-130, and the remainder of the General's forces began the mop up operation of the B-1 battle droid stragglers. Afterwards, a relief force mostly consisting of Loyalist infantry arrived and began the search for survivors as well as taking over the garrison of the location, allowing for Kenobi and your two tanks to retreat back to the main base of Republic operations in the southern hemisphere, Shelter Base.
You have just finished providing your debrief of the battle, which you learned was for the control of the city of Jaxx.
You informed him and Commander Cody of all aspects of the battle excluding the discussion with Xtreme concerning Sparks going "off the reservation," Twitch's "marketplace," and other minor details about your first 24 hours in combat. You reexplained the encounter with the lightsaber user in more detail, bring up Crusader's sword fight with him when the General expressed his disbelief that mere clones were able to defeat a force user. Your report was concise, professional, and above all, utterly exhausting.
You are now standing at attention in a musty, poorly lit concrete room before the General, who is leaning on his hands at the edge of a battered holographic gambling table. On the table is an old paper map of the area, the table deactivated due to the number of fellow troopers setting up a generator in the corner, running power lines, setting up better lighting, and doing everything else to create a proper command center.
Fatigue clings to your muscles and you feel yourself struggle to maintain a stiff posture, though a small part of you is glad to see that the General is sagging with weariness. He rubs his eyes.
>>44466960 "Being caught unprepared by a Separatist attack, by a full division no less, facing nuclear weapons, all with an understrength battalion? It sounds like you had quite the day, Lieutenant, and I'm surprised that you were able to not only survive but successfully repel their assault." Kenobi says before slowly standing back upright.
He crosses one arm across his chest and rests a hand on his chin before continuing, "Though unfortunately we suffered severe losses. I am afraid that I may have to label the 4th Battalion as unfit for duty and fold the remaining soldiers into another outfit."
Cody cuts in for the first time. "General, you know the Senate will be unhappy about the casualties if you declare the 4th Battalion defunct."
The General sighs, pinching his nose with two fingers. "Yes, I know Commander, but what would you have me do? Reinforcements are spread thin as it is across the Outer Rim!" Kenobi slams his hand down on the edge of the old table, causing you to flinch back. You stay staunchly silent in the discussion.
"The few reinforcements we would receive will be cut off due to the Senate's outrage at the news that a whole battalion was killed nearly to a man on the first day of an invasion, sir." Despite his stiff posture and balled fists. Cody does his best to maintain a professional tone.
Kenobi shakes his head, gesturing with his free hand as he speaks. "I am well aware of the situation Commander, I just do not see a way out of it. The chain of command for the 4th Battalion has been completely destroyed, and I can't rightfully send raw enlisted into battles without good officers."
"Sir, not all the officers were lost." Cody turns his attention towards you, nodding his head. "I see an officer who has proved himself in battle right here."
As the General turns to face you, you cannot halt the anxiety from boiling in your gut. Nor can you halt the sliver of excitement as well, in response you subtly straighten your posture.
>>44467002 "You are right, he did lead the defense against the final Separatist assault, and held off an entire battalion with only his walker and Bandit's scout company." After a thoughtful pause, Kenobi whips his head back towards Cody with an incredulous expression. "You are not suggesting we hand over control of the whole battalion to him?"
Cody shakes his head. You hear a dark chuckle emit from his helmet. "No sir, but stranger things have happened in this war. Until a replacement is comes in from Kamino, CT-42/458 is technically the commanding officer of the 1st Armored Company, and his leadership quotient is high, according to the reports we received from the training instructors."
Pride wells up inside of you. You did graduate top of your birthing cycle, after all. "The 4th Battalion can still live on in name, though it would have to work closely with one of the other battalions in future operations." Cody gives you a sidelong look and tilts his head slightly to the side. Though you cannot see, you get the feeling that he just winked at you.
"Well, it is true that a shipment of replacements is arriving in a week," Kenobi says slowly while stroking his beard. You feel uncomfortable at the glint in his eyes. "And while I normally would be concerned about the company's ability to field armor, the repairs on the damaged vehicles are going swimmingly, though sadly not all can be saved. Also, we have to establish the chain of command for the incoming officers." Like a predator locking onto their prey, Obi-Wan Kenobi's eyes lock with yours. You really do not lik-
"1st Lieutenant CT-42/458, you are hereby promoted to the acting commanding officer of the 1st Company." You feel a hand patting your shoulder as your world swirls, your confidence wavering. You, in command of an entire Company?
"While I am sorry to say that your forces are, well, let's say a little sparse at the moment," Why does the General sound amused?
>>44467057 "I am sure that you will be able to pull it off. In the meantime, your forces will be attached to-" The metal door squeaks behind you, the sound echoing what is going on in your thoughts right now, and clipped steps enter the room. Kenobi breaks out into a wide smile. "Ah, here he is now! 1st Lieutenant, meet your temporary superior officer."
"It's bloody fine to finally meet you, Lieutenant." You recognize the gruff voice you have only heard over comms up to now. Rigidly... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I never checked out 4E Eberron, but 3.5 Eberron felt built around 3.5. e.g. racial feats were a good thing for the Warforged. I don't want it to now be: "You can add your proficiency bonus to armor class while unarmored" or something like that.
Does anyone else here prefer playing agents of the authorities instead of ragtag misfits and rebels?
I just really enjoy trained specialists, soldiers of armies or task forces, members of large organizations, servants of empires, government/corporate agents etc. The usual underdog heroes bore me to tears.
>>44466561 You're right. We live in a world where authority and power are in control. it is only right that ALL forms of entertainment support this mindset. otherwise the rabble might begin to have untoward ideals and purging is expensive.
>>44466561 I like both, but I prefer engineering it to be underdoggish either way. Your villains, be they the Man or a bunch of dirty terrorists need to have you by the balls to create tension. Even when playing as the law, I like to feel like there's a struggle and a challenge.
>>44466287 Overpopulation surges as we all become India. Mass killings occur, as humanity is split between perpetuating peacefully and tolerating cramped and unreasonable conditions until a long-lasting solution is met, and killing the excess population to regain some semblance of normality, no matter the cost.
Why did the Emperor allow Lorgar to go on believing he was a God for so long? He let the guy conquer tons of worlds and establish the Imperial Cult as the main religion on each of them before he finally figured maybe he should put an end to it. If he truly cared so much about spreading Imperial Truth, making sure one of the Primarchs isn't spreading the exact opposite seems like a good move. And if he'd just corrected him right at the start, he could have avoided publicly humiliating him and destroying his life's work.
nothing about that period of time makes any fucking sense, least of all the emperor not noticing that most of his sons were collossal fuckups that actively propagated things that were going to sway them to the chaos gods.
i mean come on, most of them have so many personality disorders it's a joke. nothing about their bizarre fall to the dark side makes any sense at all.
>>44466219 >the emperor not noticing that most of his sons were colossal fuckups that actively propagated things that were going to sway them to the chaos gods. Let's not forget that his big "plan" for dealing with chaos in the longrun basically boiled down to 'ignore them and pretend they don't exist for long enough that they hopefully die of starvation from lack of worship'. I have yet to see anyone explain how that was /ever/ supposed to be a viable solution.
I'm sure we've all been there at one point or another: There is a game that you haven't tried before, and it catches your eye just right. But upon getting into it, the magic vanishes in the blink of an eye, and you're left with a game that you regret spending your time and/or money on.
What do you regret getting into, /tg/? It can be anything - from minis, to CCGs, to RPGs.
I liked the look and sound of MERCS, but the mix of glacial relelase schedules, poorly worded/tested rules, and very limited playerbase has doomed the game to paperweight status.
Same boat with you. I also regret infinity. The game is just fucking tedious at every step. My painting skill isn't high enough to do any justice for the models, rules are incredibly bloated, no one has done any support for android users for ease of army creation. I thought it was going to be sci-fi tabletop Valkirya Chronicles, but it ended up being a bookkeeping nightmare.
Right now infinity models are collecting dust and one day I will get few stuff I have to be my magnum opus of my painting.
I prefer adapting existing design rather than inventing new stuff from scratch.
D&D's Baator is a very good (evil?) Hell. Instead of writing a brand new Hell, I adapt Baator to my setting's cosmology. That way I can use all that wonderful material without doing unnecessary extra work.
Making a noblebright fantasy post-apocalyptic setting.
How do I represent the fall of society, when the society that ended was either pre- or low-industry? Complicating things are that magic and the power of gods were both dead in the fallen society, but are now returning after its fall.
I had thoughts to represent the fallen society as having a sort of dungeon/steampunk technological level, perhaps explained by a mastery of "alchemy." But, again, I'd like to avoid it being seen as just magic by another name, as the return of magic to the world is... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Not necessarily. If he wants a noblebright post-apoc, then maybe the old order that collapsed was just plain evil, and everyone just said "enough." Now the world is disordered and chaotic, and there are problems that come about because of it, but at the end of the day, everyone's better off with the Bastard Kings gone, and there's a bright future ahead! Come on, chums, let's build a better world!
