What fighting styles would be appropriate in a post-apoc world? I mean, fights would be rather boring if all you got is wild-swinging psychos compared to fantasy where you have the wide-swings barbarian, the professional soldier, the acrobatic dual-wielding elf and so on

How far post-apoc? Far enough for bullets to become a scarce resource? or just far enough for the gasoline to run out? or, like, immediately afterwards?

87 KB,
So I'm rewatching the Pirates movies, and really, they have some pretty legendary action scenes. I attribute this to the crazy amounts of movement and dynamism within the set pieces. As a GM this makes me hard. Like the scene with the water wheel is seriously 10/10.

How do we effectively emulate and encourage this sort of fluid combat in conventional systems? Opportunity attacks in conventional systems prevent movement, and while placement is important in many games, a once a character is "stuck in" they really are.

I'm not asking what systems...

I try to do it by giving the players non-combat objectives, if not in every combat at least in every other encounter (and if the players come up with some idea for the other... even better).
It isn't easy, and for me it feels like I'm just playing the same gimmicks (snatch & run, or the party gets snatch'd & run, or triggers more impotrant than the combat itself, or triggers to change combat conditions, the triggers might be the same for both the party and the monsters, or the monsters defend...

I've never really encountered an IRL player who acted edgelordy. A few who took themselves a little too seriously at first, but they usually either lightened up or took off when they realized my friend and I (the most experienced RPers in the group) weren't gonna humor them.

Back when I hung around on WoW RP servers though I encountered a shit load of edgelords. My trick was never playing characters who took everything so seriously. This doesn't mean I was just lolrandom happy joy all the...

Where is Kek edition

Scion 2e is now on Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/scion-2nd-edition-tabletop-rpg

Scion is a mythologically focused urban fantasy game set in a world where Gods and mythical beasts still walk the earth at the fringes of society, their worship never truly going away. Players take on the role of the children of these deities, blessed with ichor and extraordinary gifts. The line's core feature is the rising tiers of power as your character goes from their Origins as an exceptional mortal, growing into a powerful Hero, taking on the mantle of a Demigod, and finally reaching Apotheosis and taking your place alongside--or in opposition to--your divine parents as a God.

I always liked tropes like that.

The idea the character has two choices: live life as a selfish normie sheep, or sacrifice their own happiness to be a sheepdog.

There's something compelling about a hero who protects people so they can have the happiness the hero can't.

Don't know much about Witchers, but in the case of Space Marines I admit it's a little less compelling.

You can respect them for being so totally selfless, but it loses a bit of its weight when you realize they were brainwashed into it.

I really enjoy moralfag characters who became moralfags through their own choices. It's a lot more interesting when a person realizes they don't necessarily want to do something but do it anyway because it's right than when that person never...

Trying to use the Death Masque harlequins in a killteam thing. Is this a terrible idea? Just a set of clowns costs 95 points!

I've basically just got the players and a starweaver. Hopefully I don't just get swarmed and get my shit pushed in. Or are these guys so good they only need 5 dudes and a boat?

So I made a campaign for some friends, right? Nearly two years in the making. Carefully calculated to appeal to everyone in the group. Someone got so excited about the setting they made some props just because they thought they were neat. This same guy tells me that the number one rule of DnD is "don't piss down the DM's leg".

Two sessions in. Two sessions. Not even out of the prologue. And it turns out that this guy doesn't get along with one of my other friends, and tells me this by letting me know that this other friend is an Objectively Bad Person and so am I if I keep being friends with him, and that it's my responsibility as DM to make sure he and his wife are perfectly comfortable at all times, and the situation needs to be fixed by strongly censuring the friend in question, without any change of behavior on their part.

What did the other guy do? He occasionally got excited and interrupted people, and he misfired a spell and got people caught in the AoE. That's it.

I didn't take kindly to the ultimatum. Now I'm down two friends from a years old friendship, and out a campaign that was years in the making.

Tell me stories of That Guy ruining everything for everyone, /tg/. Make me feel better with your pain.

Let's talk color pie m/tg/. What are some of you favorite color bleeds, bends and breaks? I personally like sets like The Dark, Planar chaos and New Phyrexia that use the standard of the color pie to intentionally manipulate it to create flavor.

Gimme some allstars and some offenders.

One of the players in the game I'm going to run on Sunday wants to play a character that's lived for thousands of years, but is only level one. Like a lich except a huge wimp without the special powerz and abilities. What explanation could they use for that? Like, cursed to never die of age by an angry God? Pact gone wrong with a demon?

How about the character doesn't actually know he goes back thousands of years. Like he's some kind of perpetual who every time he "dies" actually gets resurrected with no memories of what happened.

Keep it a secret from the rest of the party. Then one day your players enter some castle where a tapestry from a thousand years ago depicts an oddly familiar looking figure fighting monsters...

I've never in my life have seen a character that's lived 1000s of years done well if it was also a main character (as in a book) or the player character. They always feel like they're a smartass 20-something years old. Thus, I am disinclined to allow such characters in my games that start at low levels. A thousand years is a lot of life experience to accumulate, and it can't be adequately represented by a player without the help of levels.

Anyway, as far as player characters go, the standard explanation that I've seen is that the character someone...

Yes. Facism is just a model of government, not an ideology.

Wrong. Fascism is a comprehensive world view based on the Natural order of things. Fascist governments are often different in certain policies but always self described as fascist. That is because they adhere to those principals.

I'm glad the game brings some attention to World War 1 and brings up the point that the war was not just "loltrenches" 24/7, but man it's one shitty game, and god damn does it squander its setting.

I always assumed colonial troops had inferior equipment. Am I wrong?
>>
>>49888104
Yeah but the vast vast vast majority of the war's casualties were on the Western and Eastern front where trench war fare was the dominant strategy and the game has no levels or multiplayer maps that take place in trenches or show the average life of a soldier in the trenches

I never understood why people even liked Kender. They were kleptomaniac Hobbits, only far more annoying. The fact that you could choose to play a knight flying a fucking dragon in Dragonlance, instead of a four foot thieving bastard, made it an even stupider choice.

Chaos is always shilled as such terror to behold yet it boils down to a bunch of slightly deformed spergs. Big fucking deal just use artillery and shell them what is IG so afraid of? They are literally just fighting less mentally stable humans. Now if they bring daemons that's another story but how often does that happen? I think Chaos is overrated it would be way worse to fight Dark Eldar, Necrons or Nids.

>Yet as horrific as their wanton violence is, as gut-wrenching as their genocidal purges are -- there is something else about the Crimson Slaughter that makes them more terrifying than the other myriad threats that stalk this brutal era. Strange things happen when the Crimson Slaughter arrive for battle. Unnatural, awful things that hardly bear description. Phantasmal spirits manifest out of shadows and premonitions of doom coalesce so thickly they hang like haze upon the air. Looking for some help, I've been working on and off on a homebrew game and I've hit a wall with the skills section of it. I want to stay away from something d&d cuz I've been running it for the past year and I'm sick of it.

I had originally taken a lot of inspiration from Cyberpunk 2020 and was gonna do something similar to their skill system but I decided to try out something different. The idea I had was basically a pass/fail roll where you'd roll a d10 and a result that was less than the respective stat was a success,...

Sounds like a solid mechanic.

Opposed checks could be the same roll low system but you subtract your skill from the roll. Lowest wins.

The Warhammer RPGs use a d100 roll-under-skill system much like what you're suggesting. I believe their opposed tests work the same as above, without the subtraction element.

Perhaps you could also incorporate dice reductions, where a more skilled player rolls a smaller dice than d10, like a d8, d6, or even d4, leading to more predictable rolled values.
>>
>>49889289
I really like that idea, lowering the dice size. I may look into testing that out and seeing how it works.

With opposed rolls I was gonna do something where the the person have to roll against someone would win the check if they passed that roll but I felt that would have made stealthing or persuading etc a bit harder to get away with since there isn't a DC to meet
>>
>>49888484
For roll under I'm fond of blackjack style degrees of success.

Rolling as high as possible without going over your target number, highest roll wins
