No, but sounds fun. We did a Judge Dredd campaign with Savage Worlds using the "gritty damage" rules. That's probably work really well for a Robocop game.
>>
>>49042165
How would it work though? Is it a single-player that's a "robocop" unit? Or is it an entire squad of police cyborgs?

I'm getting a little bored of hack-n-slash lately and wanna run some CoC to get some horror fueled weirdness (partially due to by obsessive rewatching of X-Files and Stranger Things). Where the hell do I begin?

1. Where is the most revered version: 7th Edition? 5th? Trail of Cthulhu?
2. What's a good introductory adventure to get a feel for the game?

Differences are not THAT big between CoC versions. So, imho, it does not really matter. Though my reading of 7E is sparse.
ToC is more narrative. If you want true hardcore Lovecraftian feeling, then the Final Revelation for ToC is the best start. Just expect nothing in the way of combat.
For a pulpier game, stick with CoC. Since I am more of a CoC player, I am not sure about best intro scenario. The corebook comes with a short haunted house scenario, usually.

The monarchy is done. After trampling on the will of the people and plunging the country into disastrous wars and famines, the people have risen up and disposed of them. The king and queen were evil or ignorant enough as makes no difference, and are dead.

The king's son, an infant boy with no knowledge of his father and mother's sins, is still alive. He is imprisoned and scheduled to be executed next week. Certainly he is dangerous. He is the rightful heir to the throne and any attempt to revive the old regime would marshal itself around him. It is a troubled...

I have a question for you /ddg/.
Imagine a classic situation of a PC making a wish to a djinn.
Now imagine the PC wishing for "not feeling pain anymore, ever."
What changes would that implies for a PC ?

I was thinking about hiding the PC hitpoints from him, and not telling him for how much damage he received if he gets hurt, only the gravity : light, medium or heavy damage.

But what about sickness ? Acid burns ? Magical damage ?

How a PC feeling no pain at all would behave, what risks would come with that condition ?

That is one of the dumbest wishes I've ever heard. It's like saying "I wish I didn't have one eye", the djinn doesn't even have to twist it.
>>
>>49039592
Jesus, man, you're new at this. That wish is so easy to pervert the djinn doesn't even have to work. The very FIRST thing that springs to mind is the PC gets turned into a statue. Voila! No more pain!

The good news is this indestructible statue will likely become a legendary item in its own right. "Currently on display in the throne room of Argus IV, after being used as the tip of a battering ram to take the city he rules. Before that, spent fifty years inside a dragon that bet a fellow dragon...

Depends on the setting.

Found a bunch of dudes on the internet willing to play some old-school D&D using Basic Set rules. I remember hating the shit out of this game back when it first came out, but whatever. Thought it might be a nice experiment.

Like good old-school faggots we rolled at random for characters, 3d6 six times in order. I remember never being able to produce a functioning human being (much less PC) with that system but surprisingly, ended up with pretty good results... except one.

Im my current campaign we have a pirate storm sorceress who stole the contract of one of the world's scariest pit fighters. The pit fighter, a Goliath Champion (5e) is utterly loyal to the owner of his contract.
I was worried at first, but the 2 roleplay exceptionally. They also help balance an otherwise chaotic stupid party.
The Goliath is also starting to become more independent thanks to a sort of spirit quest he's been on.

True. Dungeon delving is a resource management game, where you weigh the risks against the rewards. Eventually there comes to a point where exploring further is no longer worth risking a TPK, and the party returns home with their loot.
>>

Wouldn't you feel compelled to return back at some point to explore further?

Yes, but the problem is that it's difficult to determine which ones shouldn't be opened.

Sometimes it's obvious, but only if you comprehend the warnings.
Sometimes the warnings are lies.
Sometimes the lack of warnings is the lie.
Sometimes the warnings are true, but must be ignored anyways.

The only doors you can be certain should not be opened are the ones you opened already. And then, well...

Hey /tg/, need a bit of help with some research.

I need some media (preferably scripts or theater plays) on Dungeons and Dragons (or roleplay in general).

Not so much about the game, but people sitting around the table playing the game.

I found She Kills Monsters and a bunch of episodes from stuff like Community, but anything you guys would recommend? I need to shore up my review of related literature.

Plus points if you just give me plays about people just shooting the shit and/or being asshats to one another while at the table.

Double plus points if it's Filipino.

Something more Zero Charisma I guess, loathe I am to use it as an example.

Hey all, I would just like some input on a session I just had. We're playing 5e D&D.

Scenario:
>lvl 10 war cleric/pally, lvl 13 rogue/bard, lvl 11 moon druid/pally.
>hostage in the middle of room
>room was completely black, so i dropped daylight
>can't see any enemies
>we enter and trip a wire, allowing alchemist fires to fall
>fucking swarm of enemies suddenly reveal themselves
>10 bandits (i'm guessing)
>6 assassins (all ranged and on a raised platform)
>1 archmage (CR 12)
>1 rogue based on character class (level 10), with a bonus action to hide in shadows.
>1 captain (estimated CR 10)
>hostage was chained so we couldn't just grab him and run
>we get fucking stomped, close to death
>we eventually free the hostage and run away

Now, my DM mentioned that our main enemies were CR 12 and 10, while the rogue had class levels which equaled 10. He also said that the fight was completely beatable by our party of 3. We were expected to beat them all.

I added it up in Kobold Fight Club and it got DEADLY awfully quickly.

I'm just wondering, how accurate is KFC?

Am I wrong in thinking that this was terribly one-sided?

I feel like if we would have been able to at least see the people inside, we could have planned accordingly. The way it was presented to us, there was no strategy that we could have taken, and none of use have truesight or the ability to see invisible things.

I just think that the balancing was way off.

For added mandatory FUN we run it with 2 co-GM's and about 8 troubleshooters. It lets us split the party into two rooms, or have one answer notes while the other handles all the above board events.

My co-gm also has some old military field phones, so we can put up a phone line between the living room and the kitchen so when the party is split they can still call each other, winding a crank to make the bell ring and everything.

When we do maps we print them out on A0 paper, covering the entire tabletop. Especially fun if colored above red, so that most of the Troubleshooters have to be very careful about where they put their hands down.

/tg/ let's design a game system. We're going to make it system neutral, unless someone suggests a kickass idea that we decide to focus the game around.

The core mechanic will be 1d10-1d10, with a tens and ones digit d10 being assigned to each place. I like this mechanic because it creates a statistical bias towards 0, with higher rolls being outliers. This means that more extreme failures and successes (-9 and 9) are less likely, and creates an easy-to-use degrees of success system. It also puts more emphasis on character skill, to both mitigate failure, and...

>The only thing considered worse than having weebs in your game is having a player that forcibly inserts obscure fetishes into the game

Explain what's wrong with having weebs in your game. There's literally nothing wrong with taking inspiration from isekai/fantasy anime.

>inb4 the party will consist of a catgirl princess, an otaku gone rogue and a hotblooded swordsman who fights for his friends
As opposed to a male human righter, a female half-elf ranger and a dwarf cleric? The problem here is the mindless use of stereotypes, not anime as an inspiration.

>inb4 but now all of the adventurers want to be the very best like noone ever was
In /tg/ that translates to wanting to become king. When was wanting to become king not a valid end goal in fantasy games? If we take higher powered systems like D&D as an example, by the time you hit the upper levels you're a match for the greatest of demons and even some lesser gods. You're pretty much the most suitable candidate to become a monarch at that point, and it wouldn't be surprising for the old king to offer you his crown on a silver platter.

>inb4 but everyone will play some dark, edgy, brooding anti-social londer
What is Drizz't Do'Urden, the drow that inspired an entire generation of edgelords? Again, anime as an inspiration per se isn't the problem here. It's edgelords being edgelords.

>Inb4 but everyone will want a kitsune waifu
As opposed to nymphs, elves and redeemed succubi (the latter of which are downright canon according to D&D 3.5e web supplements)?

>But think of all the references and memes that will ruin the game!
1. Monty Python gets quoted all the time. Again, weebs per se aren't the problem.
2. A day without Megumeme is like a day without air.

tl;dr: There's literally nothing wrong with taking inspiration from anime/manga.

Slim to nil.
The new Masters, or rather the new familiarity of the designers with how the game actually works, will already be giving them enough to think about with regards to balance and game consistency without adding a whole new Faction.

Aside from that, I fucking hope...

As a new player getting into the game?
von Schill.

As an old player looking for challenge/top-tier?
Daw.

As a more interesting fluff character?
Errr.... von Schill, narrowly, personally. Unless you're more into the mysticism shenanigans, who knows.

You OSR dudes, what is it that you like most about old RPG design?

I looked at 1d4chan and I tend to browse OSR threads, but I can't tell what the biggest appeal of the old ways are.

From what I can tell, it's usually more open-ended, with guidelines and DM centric designs covering a ton of possibilities without worrying much about flattering the ego of the players. They demanded respect, but also creativity.

If that's true, I think I can join your side in principle. I'm designing my own adventure system currently and I'm starting...

I like the OSR threads, because they tend to be more calm, constructive and mature. I be lying if I said that nostalgia wasn't a factor in my appreciation for OSR games. Beyond that, however, I appreciate D&D's place in RPG history and find it interesting to trace its influence on other things and to really see the foundations of role-gaming. And because of its influence and continued popularity, D&D can serve as a lingua franca which allows people to quickly and easily communicate.

If I...

And here's where things get really interesting. Some of old school D&D's very weaknesses--particularly its ad hoc nature--can turn out to be strengths. Because it's not perfectly balanced, you don't have to worry as much about the changes you make screwing everything up. You have a little bit of leeway. And because not everything is necessarily done it the best way, there are things for you to improve upon, things to capture your interest that are begging for your attention.

I'm...

"Old School" design like a lot of things is an ideology that has its flaws and its virtues.

It's typically characterized by a very narrow mindset of "your character is your character and you only have as much influence as what your character can do" with giving player agency over things like objects in the immediate vicinity or setting elements something that it'd never consider as that's meant to be entirely the realm of the GM. Along with a focus on "punishing"...
