We all know about werewolves, but what other were-creatures are in your setting? Can a cow be a were-horse? What's the term for an animal that is a were of another animal?
22 replies and 4 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
I don't see why not.

Not sure if there's a word for it
>>
>>48865021
since "were" means human, a cow that turns into a horse would be a cow-horse
>>
>>48865021

I'm now seeing a scenario where an bear has been bitten by a were-eagle, and turns into an eagle on a full moon or some shit.

Just flies about minding it's own business, having the time of it's life, swooping down, grabbing some salmon, until morning when a bear inexplicably falls out of the sky and lands on the fucking cleric.

Reminder that DSP has stopped making these threads and acknowledged that they blew their load early. Someone thought it was a good idea to announce and start a conversation before they had anything substantial, the immediate response showed them how wrong they were, and now they're knuckling down to work.

Don't treat the playtest as anything but a proof of concept/taste of the setting. We'll see what happens when they actually have their own set of rules in a vaguely playable state.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay has a big ol' list of these things to roll on and its amazing.

Highlights include:
>Smells strange

I want something with a bit more structure than Wushu, but less crunch than Savage World.
I know of BESM (it sucks) and OVA (it sucks).
I don't want any d20 system derivative.
I don't mind if it's Old-School, OSR, Story-Game, traditionnal-yet-non-old-school game, et cetera.

I'm gonna run a game in a tone quite similar to pic related. The PCs are going to be badasses that can easily destroy regular opponents, but might die whenever they go against a "serious" foe.

You might want to hit up some of the PDF threads that happen here every once in a while, that and one-page RPGs.
>>
>>48864195
I'm partial to using Cyberpunk 3.0 (without the shitty stuff) as it probably would suit the tone.
>>
>>48864286
Again, I need something a bit more durable than one-page RPGs : Wushu is bigger than that, and it's still pretty light.
Savage World is crunchy, nowadays.

There was some silly indie game called Dead Scare where you play housewives in an outbreak of flesh-eating communist beatniks or something.
It's goofy, and zombies are rather shopworn, but it might be a fine one-shot system.

You might also try Primetime Adventures, which could do the 50s tv sitcom thing pretty readily.

No.
Evil is objective in dnd. Slavery is not evil.
>>
I'm personally not a fan of making paladins fall.

However, what the paladin did, while technically lawful, was by no means good. Whether or not they were created with the intent of being intelligent, the golems are thinking, feeling creatures. To erase their personality, their soul, so to speak, is tantamount to murder.

>Slavery isn't evil.
Explain your reasoning.
>>
>>48877007
Slave Pits of the Undercity, one of the first AD&D modules (AD&D being what introduced the good-evil axis into alignment), has a band of slavers. They are described just as slavers, and then a moment later, referred to as "the evil band," suggesting that their evilness has already been established.

Well I didn't know I would be facing someone who had three units that were able to attack adjacent units without moving.
I did beat them in the end though, they slipped up and I managed to get one of their units with a piece that swaps places with the enemy king whenever it kills any major units; and since their king was in range of my dragon, they had to spend their turn moving their king rather than dealing with the fact that a minotaur had teleported behind their lines.

I like to give them a relatable backstory/motivation (X killed their family/dog/village), but make their reaction to that loss totally overblown and evil (X killed my family/dog/village, so I'll kill every X in the land and everything that helped X).

Once, our DM made the BBEG some random peasant we had fucked over while murder-hoboing our way across the countryside. Turns out, he had super secret sorcerous powers that were unlocked by our wizard accidentally setting his village on fire. So he became a necromancer and made an undead army to hunt us down and kill us, ended up making a crusade against all adventurers.

Here are today's topics:

1. Rules can be dry reading. Does fluff + lore grease the wheels of a game / RPG system for you when you're learning it, or does it get in the way of the information you're looking for? Which books handle this best?

2. Most RPG characters are loners before they join the group. Is it possible to include living, active family (perhaps even wife and kids) into character creation and not ruin the fantasy? Does being a hero mean being a solitary rolling stone type?

3. Also how's the game designing going? Any podcasts...

1. I want enough lore to have context for the rules I'm reading. Make sure to make clear what is fluff and what is rules, though.

2. Of course you can have living family. Just don't force it on anyone hellbent on playing a loner and it's fine.

3. Last week I figured out what kind of game I want to make. Now I'm spinning my wheels, jotting a few notes down when I get an idea but no clear springboard for getting down to business.

Lore is needed to make the mechanics feel like anything. FATE shows what happens when the numbers are just numbers floating in a void; I've seen multiple FATE GMs come to the realization that they have no idea why they're assigning the difficulties...

It's impossible to not railroad the players.
The best you can do is let the players think they had a choice.

Cool, they "randomly" find a dungeon with hapless villagers imprisoned by orcs.

No, not that.

The trick is that you have to put them on rails for there to really be a purpose or story, or any kind of action at all most of the time. Some players can just come up with their own shit to do, but they are rare, and you probably won't have them.

So, you come up with what they are going to do, and you put down enough information about how it happens, what obstacles they face, and who they interact with, that you can run it....

Am I the only one who really loves the d20 modern wealth system? Keeping track of money in RPGs tends to lead to economies that either border on the autismal or make zero sense (look at the pricelists in any given D&D edition and really think about it. It'll take you half a minute to find something stupid).

Making it more abstract with a wealth system simply allows you to classify something as "cheap" or "expensive" and based on your wealth level you can either easily afford something, not at all, or it'll be incredibly costly to you...

Obviously, high definition of the image and accurate colour capturing. The first thing I want from my eyes is for them to see clearly. Only then we can go into secondary things like zooming, seeing in broader spectrums, focus assist or augmented reality.

The most obvious limitation is our natural limits. Augmented eyes need to transfer all that information to brain, and a brain...

There are plenty of pleasures aside from sexual pleasures, like narcotics and liquor.

Or appeal to greed. Who can say no to a pile of jewels and gold?

What are your stories of terrible wins/losses. Games that just feel unfulfilling or cheap.

I was reminded of this last night.

Back during OG Mirrodin standard or extended, Tron was a deck. And Mindslaver was a card.

And once, in a tron mirror, I remember being mindslavered turn 4 or 5, and they just used my turn to manaburn me for 14.

Honorable mentions would include the time I was up against someone competing for a top 8 slot, and I was playing a fairly controlling deck, can't remember exactly what. Our game was the last one up at the time so pretty much everyone was watching,...

Look up original Mindslaver from Mirrodin. Read the fine print.

Playing Commander, my general was Thraximundar, turn 1 Island, Chrome mox>cast Demonic Tutor, turn 2 Mountain, cast Show and Tell, think I'm hot shit for landing Blightsteel Colossus, guy to my right puts down og Ulamog. He won about 6 turns later with no player offering meaningful resistance.

Paladin who was separated from the rest of the party deciding to eliminate necromancer that had taken over a village, with over a hundred undead at his command between him and the Paladin. Because someone had to save those villagers before the undead got to them.

The last campaign I ran was full of daring-do.
>The party stumbles across a tiny cave entrance on a beach. It's full of water, and it's uncertain where it may lead. Party Ranger dives inside and retrieves an ancient magical gauntlet, only to find afterwards that his suspicions of deadly traps were right.

285 KB,
Is there any good homebrew for playing a Kobold in the Fifth Edition of Dungeons and Dragons?

I remember seeing resources in a Google Doc at one point for balancing your own homebrew races, at the very least. Can anyone offer a helping hand, here?

Just re-skin Gnomes, granting Draconic instead of Gnomish.

+2 int? That doesn't fit my image of kobolds at all.

Unearthed Arcana has a Kobold race if I remember correctly.

Is it just me, or are Hobbits essentially Dwarves but better in, like, every respect?

I motion that we should rename them to "Gentledwarves".

Do you agree, elegan/tg/entleman?

So I figured you guys were the better ones to ask than /v/ or /vg/. I recently started playing Achaea to scratch that RP itch and I was just wondering if anyone here played too?

Is that really the only question you have? Why even make a thread then? Come on mate, if you want discussion, do a bit more to stimulate it.

Abandon the video game RP. It'll never satisfy that itch and it'll just end up with cringe filled experiences like female ogre characters giving birth to human level 1 accounts.

Okie dokie then.

How does /tg/ find the comparison with MMO based roleplaying to that around the table?

In my experience I've personally always found that most of the roleplayers I've seen online tend to be better than those around my table or in parlor LARPs however they're utterly outshined by large scale hard LARPs
