I'm trying to pick a tabletop rpg system for a game I want to run. Looking to do a sort of private military group that uses relatively near future weapons and most importantly mechs, trying to avoid crazy space tech but stuff like energy weapons and primative cybernetic augments are fine. Thinking like an early deus ex or gits style setting. I'm primarily familiar with d20 and d10 systems and I'm competent enough to adapt material to what I need,just looking for a strong basis from which to start. Any recommendations?

Requesting a skuzzy looking, middle aged Englishman in a bloodeborne-esque coat with a high collar, a suit, and a top hat. I'd like him to have a devilish grin and bad teeth, and for him to be holding a hand behind his back as if concealing something. Oh, and mutton chops. Glorious mutton chops.
Requesting two assassins with cherry shaped helmets/masks, one stands at 6'ft muscular, and is a close combat expert and has a green stem like object on top if the helmet and the other is 5'ft skinny and is a long ranged expert. They both wear the suit that's in the picture, the close ranged expert has a cane sword, and the long ranged carries a sniper rifle.

Started a new campaign, and suddenly I'm that guy that always fails their rolls. I've been keeping track of expected vs. actual results, and it's perverse; I can roll up a statistically normal spread when it doesn't matter, but as soon as the check is for something it goes south and I fail 80% of the time. What must I do to appease the gods of fate? What superstitious rites remove this curse?

Just started putting together a Zvezda 2S1 Gvozdika SPG. Pretty good kit, goes together really easily and the detail seems pretty decent.
I'll be putting together two more of them and a pair of Shilkas tomorrow, plus a T-72 just because. That gives me the core of a nice Soviet force for TY, alongside one BF army deal and the six T-55s that will pretend to be a T-72 as well.
I'll probably be taking some pics and reviewing the minis on my blog.

From getting the marriage arranged, getting kidnapped by his fiance's friends, to meeting the best bro who knew his pain, from the horror that is baby rabies, confusion that is strange feelings, and finally a particularly bad trip somehow ending up halfway across the galaxy in a single night. So I vote we scout out the area as a human and find places to get what the hive needs to grow quickly.
Cover is a central mechanic in most modern/futuristic/sci fi wargames. It's a cool mechanic because it gives distinct tactical possibilities and makes positioning important. It's not just rolling dice, it's searching for a suitable place to shoot from, and create advantages and choke points.
Then, what about a mechanic similar to that one, but based on melee combat? Melee is usually just rolling dice and seeing which miniature wins, and it's not so complex, therefore making fantasy/medieval/ancient combat a little more lackluster than their modern counterparts.
How would you fix this? Do you know any wargames with complex melee mechanics?
>>43811274 I would say that since games that focus on how positioning works and the effects of cover in depth are usually smaller games, you might want to focus on the large skirmish or almost platoon-level combat for a melee game, and then focus more on Formations, Facings, and unit type.
I would argue that different weapons in a melee game would provide the tactical differences that positioning and cover do in modern or futuristic games, becuase different weapons are designed to do different things in melee.
