Soul Devourer: For each enemy unit destroyed by Nightmare, Automatically restore one wound and add 1 to attack characteristic
Grab: if in a challenge, Nightmare's controlling player may exchange all normal attacks for a grab attack that must be rolled to hit as normal. If the grab attack hits the enemy challenger suffers D3 automatic wounds no saves of any kind allowed
This is the biological daughter of an infamous dread pirate and original owner of Soul Edge, who was forced to take the artificial soul of a homunculus she was crafting (because she's super deep into alchemy after her foster father) after said dread pirate dad stole her original soul, rendering her functionally immortal and unaging in the process. Because she has a cursed lineage, she took a vow of celibacy so as not to let the lineage spread.
There's always getting her baby maker snipped so she doesn't have to worry about getting pregnant ever again. Then again she'd have to wait until medical technology advanced enough to allow that though.
>>43455776 She also put part of her soul into her sword, because that's apparently the only way to get a whipsword to work. Anyway there's supposed to be a joke here about a celibate woman penetrating people with her artificial cock.
>>43456289 Specifically, no; it just seems to mesh with her dominant tendencies. Plus, she's the only character who hails from England, so no one's actually going to call her out on it because maybe that's what people in England do or something. It should be noted that as P1 costumes go, Soul Calibur 5 Ivy (>>43456273) is the most conservative Ivy to date.
>>43456289 Not really, well the one arm being armored is due to her wrapping the whip around it, or catching the whip with it, so she doesn't cut herself. Also though I doubt the developers knew it, but the incredible amounts of cleavage in her outfits were actually a big part of the fashion at the time in England and France.
>>43456411 >well the one arm being armored is due to her wrapping the whip around it, or catching the whip with it, so she doesn't cut herself. Yeah, that's one of the consistencies in her outfit throughout the years: she always wears at least one armguard to protect herself while swinging her whipsword.
>>43456226 >at least we got heavily implied incest right? I wanted fucking story mode where I got to pick my character, how can a game that was one technological worse systems be better than a game on the then current generation?
>>43456927 Who, for the record, has a demon sealed inside her Naruto-style, for which Taki feels personally responsible, hence her motherly teacher side. It doesn't help that Natsu has a known rebellion streak (except where Taki herself is concerned).
>>43455057 >>43455453 I'd dig a Siegfried/Nightmare premise in 40k CSM is all >You know what? FUCK the ruinous powers, I'm out! Chaos is all >Aw hell no, we're getting that soul one way or another Champion with a shiny new daemonblade is all >swiggity swooty
>>43457123 Both Calibur and Edge are legendary sentient weapons that can take whatever form their user desires. Both weapons are diametrically opposed to each other, one the icon of purity and the other the icon of corruption. Soul Edge is a cursed sword that corrupts its user in its ceaseless quest for more souls. Soul Calibur only cares about stopping Soul Edge, to the point that it will actually kill everyone on the planet so as to starve Soul Edge of souls.
>>43457266 From the Soul Calibur Wiki: >Charade is the form of a man who is weary from war-torn lands and dreaming of adventure. He finds the legends of Soul Edge, and begins to find its fragments. He is eventually murdered by bandits who had heard a rumor circulating in the cities of a man overly-protective of his possessions. Still grasping the fragments, his corpse is thrown into a river. The blood from the hands forms around the fragments due to the man's tenacity to protect his precious fragments. This being seeks out to find more shards, so it can devour them and become whole. He eventually becomes part of the Soul Edge. Charade is able to scan minds of warriors it confronts, and then creates weapons out of its body to accommodate the fighting style it imitates. When the Soul Embrace was formed, Charade's power appeared to have weakened in response to Soul Edge's dormant state. >In Soulcalibur IV, Nightmare summons the remaining fragments of Soul Edge to Ostrheinsburg Castle to become whole. Among them are the second Soul Edge created by Cervantes and fragments that have become half-living creatures, one of which might have been Charade.
In other words, Charade is a dude who turned into a Soul Edge-based construct before he was eventually eaten by Soul Edge itself.
>>43457343 Meanwhile, I like how straightforward Mitsurugi's story is. >Mercenary swordsman >Realizes the advent of the gun will mean the end of his livelihood >Challenges a rifleman to a duel to prove his worth >Loses, badly >Hears the legend of Soul Edge, a weapon so powerful it can defeat any gun >Goes hunting for it >Can't find it >Says "fuck it" and challenges the rifleman again >Wins >Realizes that the weapon is not what's important, only who wields it >Doesn't care about finding Soul Edge for himself anymore >Now wants to be the strongest in the world >Now just wanders and fights everyone just because
>>43457513 I admit, his storyline gave me, a LONG time ago, my own idea for a stand alone setting of a world where the sword is still fighting a losing battle against the gun, because there are magic swords, less and less over time, the most powerful of which still rival guns in power. And guns came into being to END the tyranny of those swords.
Then I decided that was arcade trash tier stuff and stashed it away for later.
>>43458445 He might've at one point much later on. But when he was actually looking for Soul Edge to claim it himself, his trail ran cold on different occasions. It doesn't help that Taki stymied him on a couple of occasions.
>>43458445 >>43458473 There's also his (non-canon) Soul Calibur 2 ending: he finally finds Soul Edge, but feeling the immense evil radiating from it, he declares that there's no way this evil sword was the weapon he was looking for and promptly shatters it, leaving to go find the real Soul Edge.
>>43458473 Yeah maybe i'm mixing both the canon and this >>43458497 I can see mitsurugi become a soul edge wielder in the future though. All the characters are being replaced by their younger descendants already. He'll get older and older and become more frail and at last accepts the sword's promise of unending power.
>>43458546 He was at his peak of power at the time. My prediction is he'll get the offer again when he's a frail old man on his deathbed but still with the burning desire to be the most powerful. Though on the other hand, this is a samurai in a nip game. They probably want to preserve his image.
>>43458581 Not even that. Mitsurugi is one of the faces of the Soul series as a whole. There are only four characters who have appeared in every mainline Soul game from Soul Edge/Blade onward: >Mitsurugi >Siegfried/Nightmare >Cervantes >Voldo FUCKING VOLDO has perfect attendence in the series.
>>43458296 They apparently manage to fight each other to a draw, and both felt like it was the most exhilarating fight they've had in a long time. So now, they're constantly keeping an eye out for each other to feel the rush of battle again.
>>43462342 There was a demon swordswoman (pictured), an oni, an elf rendition of Scheherazade herself, a clockwork golem girl sent by the same cult who created Astaroth/Lizard Man to hunt down Astaroth, and a FUCKING ALIEN.
>>43462462 Angol Fear always bothered me, since all the other Donut Steel characters were at least somewhat out of the comfort zone for the artists involved, but Yoshzaki Mine just ported a character wholesale from Keroro Gunso. I mean, even fucking Necrid, awful though he may be, is at least somewhat unique.
>>43462710 The only thing that sucks about 3 onwards is that some of the characters feel like their in the wrong games. ie Natsu should've been in 4, SC4-Taki should've been 5, SC-5 Kilik is pointless, etc
>>43462462 >That weapon design is still one of my favourites
>>43462710 >original SC2 version remains the version that is the least shit gameplay-wise to this day. Even then, it wasn't that good. However, you could SEE the potential, if the devs used real life fencing as the base, rather than acrobatics and Olympic fencing, and made him more about dexterous blows and voids/parries rather than the silly mess he was.
There are many possible arguments to be made for either SC2 or 3 being the best one in the series, but which one is the worst? Both SC4 and 5 have so much wrong with them, but both are awful in completely different directions...
>>43456379 I'd argue that her original is moreso. SC 5 is just about the same, just more ornate and with a man's short coat that only serves to highlight her ass, not cover it. It has subtle sex appeal based on the tease, and it works so well. >belle chere >if you haven't seen it, google belle chere scv
>>43462864 With a rapier? Anyone who wants. They are not foils you know, they most often have a cutting edge. To say nothing about the definition of rapier being actually quite nebulous and ranging from some pretty heavy saber-like swords to to the thin needle stuff.
But anyway, his SC2 gameplay was really good, and also had a lot of hidden depth for high levels (although his low level gameplay was kinda braindead).
That's basically SC2 in a nutshell tho, peak of the series gameplay-wise basically.
>>43462889 3 was a technical nightmare, even as a baby casual basement warrior I knew it was completely busted. It had a nice story mode and some extra features, but it's wasn't that good of a fighter.
>>43462864 If you pay attention to Raphael's rapier, it isn't a fencing one, it has an actual edge. It's actually a rather thick rapier for that matter.
All this "rapiers are for thrusting!" stuff is silly, most rapiers were entirely capable of slashing and cutting, they were typically too small to have enough mass behind it to make it as effective as thrusting, though. They were perfectly valid for chopping however. Using non-fencing rapiers a quick cut to the hand or arm is a very common tactic, and can very easily cripple someone in that regard.
>>43462853 By ported I meant her being part of a previously established race from another series and functionally a slightly altered clone of a character from said series to boot. A series which is fundamentally different from SC, I might add. That might have worked for Kentaro Miura, if he decided to just bring over Guts' long-lost brother, but with Keroro Gunso it doesn't really work. I should have clarified that more, I suppose.
>>43457054 >f What happened to Sophitia? I stopped trying to follow the "story" in 3. I just know Sophitia's dead, sexy crazy once was green and cute crazy now in brown lederhosen and not so cute is dead, and half the cast is gone, replaced by dullards.
3 more or less killed the series with how terrible it was for anyone but the most casual. 4 was respectable aside from Hilde, 5 is literally half a game and I'm disgusted at SC having meters and supers.
>>43463017 When Taki and Sophitia destroyed part of Soul Edge at the end of the original game, a shard of Soul Edge lodged inside her and couldn't be removed without killing her. Then she had her two kids Pyrrha and Patroklos. Because the shard was stuck in her body, Pyrrha was exposed to Soul Edge's power in the womb. After they were born, Pyrrha was kidnapped and revealed to be bound to Soul Edge; if the sword is destroyed, Pyrrha dies. With this, Sophie is blackmailed into protecting Soul Edge, the same weapon she swore a divine oath to destroy. >In the end, Siegfried managed to defeat Nightmare, and Sophitia had to sacrifice her life in order to save Pyrrha's, by transplanting her last Soul Edge shard in her daughter's body. In doing so, Sophitia died in order so that her daughter may live.
Sophitia is an honest-to-God tragic character because a core component of her character (her daughter) was used to orchestrate her own downfall. It's great.
>>43463017 That's about it, really. The new male lead character is lusting after his mother Sophitia, the female lead (his sister) is a 'so awkward, so clumsy' moeblob, Taki was replaced by her valleygirl ninja, most of the interesting cast is dead or retired and Soul Calibur is just as much of an asshat as Soul Edge is.
>>43462935 >>43462975 I mean that Raph had BIG, SLOW WIDE SWINGS with a rapier that fucking Siegfried would point and laugh at. Add to it that his thrusts were either sorta quick and weak, or on the slow/predictable side and average damage (Taki was better with speed and damage), he had less range than Mitsurugi, his stances were generally hot garbage, his parries were enemic, his strikes on the whole were predictable unless you were OUTRAGEOUSLY good... and this was at his best. Like I said, he had so much potential, I really wanted him to be the new Nightmare.
>>43463017 >sexy crazy once was green and cute crazy now in brown lederhosen and not so cute is dead Wait, what happened to Tira? Last I remember, Tira was the one who kidnapped Pyrrha and guided her down the path to the dark side.
>>43463166 No one. What >>43462991 meant was that the guy made a character entirely in his art style that clashed INCREDIBLY hard with SC's art style. Miura's art style would mesh, with some adjustments, very well with SC, while Kerou's just doesn't in any capacity. >>43462986 Yea, now post some Tira.
>>43463126 What? No! NO! So she fucking saved her daughter, killed herself, and utterly damned her daughter in the process? >>43463159 Who else is dead/gone? I know Tira was killed by Nightmare in 4, >>43463208. That outfit had potential, but ugh, honest to god lederhosen on a slav? I know real old country Bavarian's who would be offended at the thought.
>>43463253 You mean 2? >>43463285 Yeah, it was. >>43463245 A little bit of work and some dedication and he would have been a great example of rapier work in games. I loathe the lost potential. It's like they didn't even give a shit about attempting to make a decently balanced game. That said, I liked Zasalamel, and he vanished, ne'er to return.
>>43463298 >I know Tira was killed by Nightmare in 4 According to the wiki, Tira was extremely active in SC5 and, in fact, is arguably the biggest reason why Pyrrha became the new owner of Soul Edge. All the machinations surrounding Soul Edge in 4 (including blackmailing Sophie in >>43463126) and 5 were all Tira's idea, the split-personality bitch.
>>43463391 >oniisama cubes! >for lonely imoutos >5 minutes in the oven, or a few whack with a hellfire empowered demonic sword that may feast on your soul, and you can have your very own incestous husbando
>I wanna bang you, Kilik. >I wanna bang you too, Xianghua. I really do. But... >But? >But you look and remind me too much of my foster sister who I had to kill when she sacrificed herself to protect me from the evil seed. >Oh...shit...sorry, man.
always wanted to run a game set to the souls verse. just wasn't sure what system to use. thought about using Riddle of Steel but that just gets to rules heavy. i wanted something with an emphasis on 1v1 combat
>>43464175 Nope, but it's also kinda terrible... although not a bad seed for a game, if you want to brew.
Short intro to the system: >your actions are on cards (each card holds 2 actions) >you both play a card (or cards, see later) face down then flip it up at the same time >results depend on cards flipped; there are attacks, movement >some moves are slower on startup or recovery, giving a modifier to the next move; you may get such a great advantage that you can play a quick move without the opponent even having time to react >you may make special moves/strings/combos by playing multiple cards in order; depending on card type this results in the move(s) taking a shorter time than if you played the individual parts.
Wasn't there a /tg/-organized plot some time ago where Talim somehow ends up as a live-in maid with Ivy, and the two play their characters off each other? Talim is the young optimistic girl who is convinced she can find the goodness in Ivy's heart, while Ivy seeks to explain the realities of the world to Talim and protect her from them one way or another. It was actually rather sweet, thinking about it.
Based on the character creation options, her combat outfit is underwear. So presumably some of the more out there versions are just what Ivy wears under her normal clothes and for some reason Project Soul thought we didn't want to see her doing action dress rips.
It was a desperation move after the sword itself was sealed to let Inferno try to free itself. The empty-armor nightmare is inherently unstable and can't survive very long without a host.
It's indicated but never directly stated that Soul Edge also needs a human mind to shape its desires. In III Nightmare is all right but by IV it has basically devolved into a beast driven solely by hunger, and is falling apart as Tira tries to find it a new host.
Nightmare in V demonstrates that he's much stronger and smarter with a human body, and not at risk of imploding into nothing.
>>43467247 >Evil Seed spilling all over the world, turning people crazy >Countless rumors and legends surrounding a mythical weapon that grants untold power >Everyone is gunning for it >Otherwise trying to survive in a Renaissance-era world filled with cults, monsters, magic, alchemy, world-destroying weapons, and countless dozens of wandering martial artists
Add on the fact that the malfestation thing means you have plot hooks like fucking inquisitions hunting them, people with supernatural powers or just infection from the sword's energy being mistaken for monsters/warlocks...
Oh, and the whole thing how pagan gods are real in Alternate Renaissance Europe. There's fun to be had there.
>"Absolutely not. I can see right through those pants, girl, you are not walking around in those! We're getting you something proper to wear at the next town!" >"But you're–!" >"I'm twice your age and know what I'm doing, young lady. Do as I say, not as I do."
>>43467841 >Is it always cold and rainy here in England? >You get used to it. It helps that I don't get out very much. >You? But you're so, ehm, shapely and beautiful. >You flatter me, girl, but I'm quite content with the life of a hermit. Fewer people I have to explain my...situation to. Besides, I'm not very sociable. >...I never thought I would experience an entire country as dreary as you are. >...
>Ah! Ivy, it moved! This thing is alive! >Oh, that. I made it a while back in Prague. Don't pay it any mind, it's not much more than a jellyfish. It doesn't even have a brain, it just jiggles. >I see...what do you call it? >Taki.
>>43469072 Well, my mom's not a bangin'-hot Greek holy warrior with fair skin, blond hair and heaving breasts, so that's a loaded question. Besides, Elysium takes the form of the person the wielder is most comfortable with.
>>43469786 Nothing specific. What is know is that Taki beat Ivy in SC1, and that Taki was Ivy's rival battle until you unlocked Cervantes. It also doesn't help that Ivy is Cervantes's biological daughter, and Taki had a direct hand in bringing the dread pirate down at one point.
>>43467191 It can't do that normally. Inferno needed the help of an ancient and powerful wizard to move its mind into the Nightmare armor, and its body is slowly falling apart as the spell fades.
Said wizard was immortal and wanted to draw out both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur so he could combine their powers and use them to kill himself. If something goes wrong in the process he turns into this.
A bright, charming, and optimistic girl with magical powers befriends a dark, melancholy badass woman, probably learning from her and teaching her to enjoy life again in the process? I'd watch/play it.
>>43475556 Correct on both accounts. In SC3, she was a playable bonus character. In SC4, she became a mainline character. The wiki fluffs her as the anti-Talim: both are young girls, but Amy is ruthless and callous, swearing allegiance to no one except her foster father Raph.
>The new character Viola bears an uncanny resemblance to her and, coincidentally, has no memory of her past. Notably, Amy and Viola share many thematic elements of their designs as well as both of their voice actors. Many speculate that Viola is, in fact, Amy, although this has not been confirmed in-game in any way, nor officially by Project Soul. >Some fans made conclusions that Amy and Viola are twins, mainly because of their similar facial appearance and similar auditory references. However, Amy has made no mentions about her having another sibling before she met Raphael and because Viola has amnesia, she may not remember if she had siblings or didn't have siblings. However, Viola's amnesia still leads to speculations of the two being the same person or being twin sisters. Also, determining by Raphael's actions towards Viola when fighting her, he may have some clue about the woman.
