You need more than one good/okay card to make a whole color worth it. Face it, white is pretty trash tier in modern. The only good cards it has is path and good sideboard options, far cry from "must play color" like red.
I'd give that "must play" color to blue or black. Blue for filtering and black for utility. Just about every big deck runs some kind of blue or black. Affinity has both (Thoughtcast/Thoughtseize). Jund/Junk have black at the very least. All Grixis builds, Twin uses blue, burn sometimes splashes black... Heck, there's even U Tron.
>Andrew Martin So you hate Jews and make bad brews ?
God damn it Andrew
>how he was reading Mein Kampf, and thought it'd be a good idea to try discussing it.
Nothing wrong with this.
Is this America or what ??
Mein Kampf will fall in the public domain : it will be controversial and I don't see any problems by talking of it.
>TWoo is/was streaming modo while reading passages from Mein Kampf and talking about how he agreed that Jews controlled the media and it was good to see the other side of things. And citing the book as evidence of how all of Germany in that era felt, generally agreeing with a lot of it.
Or at least that's what I gather from IRC, I didn't watch the stream myself.
- The Jews control the media
- Racism isn't wrong because lots of people are racist.
- Asian men do not control the media (The Jews do) which is why we trivialize Asian men
- The US entered WW2 to "Save a race of people," and for other "Jewish Reasons"
- There is no unbiased history, and anywhere between 200,000 and '10s of millions' of people died in the Holocaust (which may not have happened)
- "I bet if a tiger walked into a room, and someone said "don't worry, he's friendly" you probably wouldn't take their word for it. Why? Because you have a self defense mechanism called "prejudice"."
- We dont know the 'real reasons' for WW2
- Honored Hierarch is playable
He did say "I hate when the Jews take over" at one point during the stream. He also mentions how much he respects Jews because of how much power they wield and how much they control for being so few. Its more polite antisemitism and less outright holocaust denial. The part I tuned into, he said "Okay, maybe it's possible that the jews didn't do anything wrong. But that's hard to believe, because that would mean an entire nation of people spontaneously turned evil for no reason."
> Honored Hierarch is playable
that alone is reason to sack him
Opinions on Coco Pod? I loved pod and this is not quite it but it looks sweet.
>But that's hard to believe, because that would mean an entire nation of people spontaneously turned evil for no reason
Hey, that's clever.
And it's not even a joke. Just look at the fucking History.
It doesn't really hold up as an argument.
The US was racist as shit during the same time period.
Was that considered evil? Not really, that's just how it was at the time. Germany didn't suddenly turn racist the second Hitler showed up
>The US was racist as shit during the same time period
This. Fucking Canada turned away a boat of jews fleeing because, as their governer of immigration said, "no jews is too many"
They ended up all being gassed, I believe
I get it but no need to have such a fest in this modern thread I wanna talk about modern. Im in the middle of a lecture and my list is at home. Still making the side board as well. So far its UG but black is rather interesting.
Even with hierarchs dropping i still cannot fucking afford the deck. Ive tested it with my friends on cockatrice however and its a fucking house. Wall of roots is a monster of a blocker. Spellskit from the board against twin is 100% fucking gassss
Where the fuck do I go to trade? I just want to find people who can give me a fucking list of things they want and then I can give them a list and we can settle it.
>- "I bet if a tiger walked into a room, and someone said "don't worry, he's friendly" you probably wouldn't take their word for it. Why? Because you have a self defense mechanism called "prejudice"."
well, that's a new one
>Honored Hierarch is playable
Pfft hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha this is the most ridiculous thing I've heard all day
The people who have cards I want are 'oldbies' and only want to trade for ridiculous things I don't have
And the other people are faggots who don't have things I want
Also the 'oldbies' are asshats who don't like me because
I'm not as old as themdespite the fact I've been playing longer than all of them.
Also I'd love to press ctrl+s, but I'm on mobile.
>people board in skite against storm expecting it to save them
Holy fucking shit, speaking of retards, I have to explain to people the interaction between Skulcrack and Protection so often, I'm thinking of printing it out on a fucking piece of paper and stapling it to peoples heads when they say 'B... But... Protection?'
USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA
Exactly, and if they have any modern viable cards they want the goddamn moon for them
"HURR, I'LL TRADE YOU THIS SNAPCASTER FOR THESE 4 PYROCLASMS"
You're not wrong, but sometimes I like to build on a deadline, just to swap decks every once in a while.
Same here, I usually ask on my stores FB page if anyone has what I need, at least the owner keeps a lot of modern and a few legacy staples in stock.
>I've seen people bring in blood moon against storm before.
People are bad at sideboarding anon
the best thing about it was that the blood moon player also had access to rest in peace in their sideboard and thought it wasn't high impact enough
your mission, should you choose to accept it... is to resolve splinter twin on restoration angel, then activate it, flash in the pestermite in response to the token trigger, untap the original angel, flicker the pestermite with the token ability that was on the stack and go off.
it depends on consistency - infect and amulet bloom can get god draws and win t2 but most games with them are interactive
amulet of vigor might get banned
>bloom doesn't die to one piece of hate
blood moon, GQ if you understand timings and the stack, counterspells
I think all the salt you've been feeling is distorting your memory anon.
I'm on RW burn currently, but am thinking of adding a heavier G splash to play commands. I would just netdeck, but I like to hear the reasoning behind running certain cards. What should I add to my mana base to facilitate the splash /tg/? I have copperlines, and am working on trading for 2 mesas and more stomping grounds. Also, ignore the torpor orbs, they're going to be relics soon.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head with stomping ground. I wouldn't bother with copperlined gorge unless that's your only option. Your splashing G for command and destructive revelry unless I'm missing something so G is tertiary. I think you can leave the count low and rely on fetches to make up the numbers.
Been playing it for 3 weeks at a pretty competitive LGS, went 2-2 every week. It's pretty fun to watch Burn repeatedly swing and leave you at 1 HP, or for Twin to combo off and not win. Only changes I've made were taking out a Witchstalker for a Thrun, taking out two Dismembers for two Path to Exiles, changing 3x Llanowar Elves for more Birds to help the mana base (they'll eventually be Noble Hierarchs), and adding two fetches and two shocks. Once the mana base is solid I'm going to splash blue for Negates and Dispels, and I'm looking at Leyline of Sanctity to screw over my discard-heavy meta.
Basically I had out a Guide and two Swiftspears and had to deal 5. Just attacking would've dealt 1. So I targeted myself with the Crack since my opponent had hexproof, and Skullcrack made it so the Orbs couldn't prevent the now six damage coming in to kill my opponent.
>he doesn't have guides
Cost of Nacatls isn't really the concern so much as what I should be cutting, and whether that has an effect on how many stomping ground/fetches I should be playing. I'd rather just stick to straight RW if command means I need nacatls and nacatls mean I need to shell out another $200 for a playset of mesas and 2 more stomping grounds.
Don't run nacatls. Waste of time in burn. And you don't need them to make splashing green worth your time. It's for the destructive revelry and command. You only need a light splash with a couple shocks since only the commands are maindecked.
I can get 2 mesas tops, is missing 2 fetches really that big of a deal? And is command really worth it with only 12 creatures in the deck (lavamancer won't be attacking even most likely), seems like a harder to cast skullcrack at that point
Missing two isn't a big deal. But it would make your color fixing more consistant. However if you feel comfortable with what you have, it's fine.
It is a skullcrack most of the time but don't underestimate the creature buff. With just a couple creatures out can finish an opponent handley with a bolt/buff. Running 8 anti life-gain effects is also worthwhile.
I assume you know how cascade works. The casting cost of a card with no cost is calculated as zero by things that care about the casting cost of a card (like cascade). The rest should make sense.
have you ever listened to the guy talk for more than a minute? woo is a pseudointellectual shitlord xir. i bet he thinks he can get away with that talk because he thinks he's an 'enlightened person of color' and thus not subject to privilege checks or decorum.
>Don't run nacatls. Waste of time in burn.
So me and my friend are just getting into modern, I know mono green stompy is an excellent budget deck. Is there another deck on a siniliar power level we can build? I was thinking burn (without goblin guides, for cost reasons)
I would say mono white Soul Sisters is on a similar level. Plus Path to Exile is a great staple to have. On the downside, Serra Ascendant can be fairly expensive.
Mono red burn is also a good idea. The Guides are expensive but there are replacements like Spark Elemental.
Mono U Tron might be an option if your friend wants more control.
Budget affinity is fun, though I don't know if it's on the same power level as green stompy. On the plus side, if you want to start investing real money, You can, you know, build Affinity.
Well for us to start , I want us to be on a similiar level, we both come from yugioh, so we're trying to get a feel for the game with a good, solid deck. I just didn't want to build something way better than we had since that's no fun for us.
My local card store has goblin guides for 21 (foil is 30), this seems like a pretty standard price. I think burn might be on a close enough power level to be fun or both of us and those decks are decent enough that we won't go 0/4 at FNM if we decide to go.
I don't yet posess a good enough grasp on this game to start dropping any major cash on cards.
>I don't see a wincon anywhere
>what is jace?
>what is elspeth?
>what is elixir of immortality?
>what is that one obscure manland?
>what is fucking aetherling?
there are fucktons of wincons are you blind?
What do you mean, unfun games? I'm not very familiar with infect decks.
So burn, mono white sisters, infect, and maybe mono utron or troll worship? Seems like a decent list, I'll do some research. Thanks for your help guys
Creatures with infect deal damage to players in the form of poison counters. When you get 10 poison, you lose. So infect just gets a 1/1 infect creature (Glistener Elf), plays a bunch of cheap pump spells (Mutagenic Growth, Might of Old Krosa, etc) and swings for 10 ASAP. If there's no blockers or early interaction, the game could be over on turn 2 with a single combat step. Plus, since they tend to go all in on the pump spells they usually don't have much interaction.
let me educate you
Well they usually have Vines of the Vastwood, Ranger's Guile or Apostle's Blessing. But yeah, if bolt/path/dismember/anything resolves the game is over.
I will say about budget mono green infect, it builds very easily into the standard competitive UG build. Things like Noble Hierarch and Inkmoth Nexus are staples, so that is a benefit as well. It is similar to burn in that regard. In comparison, Soul Sisters doesn't really build into anything else.
Soul sisters isn't really budget though. The only real upgrade you get with that is adding in auriok champions. And sisters is a great deck as long as you can steer clear of rg tron, infect and bogles.
I saw a deck that splashed red for this guy to get all the ETB triggers and used Purphoros, it was pretty funny
where can I look for some decent tier 2/3 decks that are not seen much? something like abzan aristocrats or r/g shamans
or if you know any could you give me some names so that I can look them up?
Everything is there, T1, T2, Competitive, and Creation subsections.
From their facebook
building a similar but using zulaport instead of kalatria highborn and cartel aristocrat instead of vamp aristo
Who /twin/ here?
What version of twin are you playing?
Any sweet tech?
Me, I play Tarmo Twin and have been loving Sudden Shock recently.
Planeswalkers are worthless in a deck with only four creatures, all it would take is one opponent's creature spell to get past one of his counters before it's dead. The Elixir of Immortality isn't a win con, what the fuck, all it's doing is letting him turtle a while longer without running out of cards. People told me /tg/ was bad at Magic but this delusion is ridiculous.
Cool, I actually play naya burn and I was thinking of putting a couple in. It's good for my meta and I didn't even think about it against some of those decks (fish).
How would you say Tarmo twin matches up with burn? I don't have any Tarmo twin pilots around to test against.
goyfs make a really insurmountable wall, and if you can twin out or cast huntmaster you usually just win. I run 2 thragtusks in the side too but they are for jund more than burn, though if you can survive to cast them they'll probably just win you the game. Basically it's a bit better than U/R twin against burn, but they have a bit more painful mana.
>get past his counters
looks like we got a casual over here, bet you haven't bought back a capsize in all of your fifteen years of life
I'm a casual twat who just wants to play with cards I like. I'll never go to anything larger than an FNM-size tournament.
How embarrassing would it be to play rhox war monk? Everything else I've got is pretty normal.
play splinter twin on a stonehorn dignitary, if you gonna shit, then shit hard
>mfw someone did this to me at my first modern fnm when I was playing monogreen stompy
>didn't mainboard enchantment hate
I only just started with Magic, and I wanted to hop straight into Modern. Mostly because the idea of cards becoming obsolete really doesn't ring well with me.
I was wondering where I should start. I bought the Deckbuilders Toolkit and the BFZ Event Deck, and I've been having a lot of fun abusing the shit out of sacrifice effects and Eldrazi Scions, and BG seem pretty good together.
I also played a GW buff deck my friend made and enjoyed that.
I was wondering if I should just go with what I've been doing thus far and make myself up a BG deck, or should I try and scrounge together some makeshift decks from my various cards and try out the other colours? Thanks.
If you want to play Modern as in competitive then you should look up some good decks and read some primers. Your own brews with your own limited card pool will have no chance what so ever.
If you just want casual play with friends then there is no advice to give except play what you want and have fun.
Yeah, I've only been playing with friends at the moment.
I've been looking at various decks of other colours, but I always end up being the most interested in Green/Whatever.
My cards at the moment are pretty shit, even if I've had a couple of lucky draws
foil Flooded Strand in my first BFZ booster.
Thanks for the tips, I'll go to the FNM tomorrow and watch for a bit to see how out of my league I am.
You can do drafts until you decide what modern deck to buy into.
It's another format but it still gives general experience playing magic with better players and you are not punished for having a small collection.
Not to mention
>I'm gonna keep this short
>splinter twin on a stonehorn dignitary
And a single copy of Stonehorn just found its way into my URW Twin. Surprisingly I had never actually considered that myself.
Those 2 things are tied tho. A weak deck won't see any representation or good results in competitive play just like how a tier 1 deck won't be weak.
A deck is good/high tier because it overall it has a favorable matchup against the rest of the format.
> because it's predators are kept down by other decks.
Which means that the predators aren't a big part of the format which means that the statement "because it overall it has a favorable matchup against the rest of the format." is true.
So why does everyone take Magic so seriously, /tg/? Why are people with fun deck ideas called casuals and laughed at? Why does everyone have to play top tier decks and why are top tier decks always conveniently the decks you happen to play?
Why do you insist on making mtg not fun?
>Comes into a thread clearly not for him
>High skill decks/matches aren't fun cause I say so.
>"Play mtg my way because if you don't you are playing the game wrong and not having fun cause I say so"
>So why does everyone take Magic so seriously, /tg/?
Modern is a serious format
>Why are people with fun deck ideas called casuals and laughed at?
Because modern is a serious format
>Why does everyone have to play top tier decks and why are top tier decks always conveniently the decks you happen to play?
Modern is a serious format
>Why do you insist on making mtg not fun?
We don't. Fun is subjective. If you don't find modern fun there are other threads with other formats that can be fun for you. Now get fucked pleb shitposter
Listen here you second-rate spell shaper, I'm a mother fucking wizard. You know what that means? Of course you don't. You can't do shit without someone else's help. Always need an idea here, mana boost there. Maybe if you spent more time studying and less time with a Rod of Ruin up your ass you might learn a thing or two. Now get the fuck off my plane before I sic a goyf on you.
>implying "top tier" decks require any amount of skill
>implying everyone in modern wants to play "top tier" decks
>people who don't want to play "top tier" decks are in the wrong format
>"play mtg my way because if you don-f you are playing the game wrong and being a filthy casual cause I say so"
Who is the real shit poster here?
In a podcast patrick says he refused to go along with the skin heads in prison and would play chess and basketball with the blacks. When he came out he was sporting a buzz cut, he must have conform with the rest. Just look at his scrawny self, he must have been seen as prime boy pussy.
Other formats are too open for good games. Formats like vintage or legacy include cards that were designed back when mtg R&D had no idea what they were doing and as such are hilariously unbalanced and easily broken. In fact, with Modern ' s comprehensive ban list ensuring no particular card is too broken or too anti-fun, modern is the best format for new players or players looking to play proper Magic for the enjoyment of it. To arbitrarily decide that modern is a "serious format" is to do a disservice to the format with the most variety in cards and the most balanced design (at least, compared to all the other formats).
Standard is the "serious" format in mtg, and that is why standard is shit (to me obviously)
Always rev for 15
Shits pretty stale man.
Does anyone have a solid mono Green stompy and mono red burn deck list they could share? I'm looking to get into the format and I'm not sure what's a solid list from the internet sources I've found.
Shit man people told me mono red burn was budget, I thought I wasn't going to break 300 for everything. Are arid mesa and the other pricey cards substitutable? Minus goblin guides, I can get those for around 18 a pop. If the price can't be lowered what other deck would you recommend? The biggest event I'll be going to is FNM or my local modern Wednesday
You can build burn for way less.
Decide if you want to play green or white with it then pick up 2 shocks of the RW or RG. 8 fetches, 4 bloodstained mire and 4 wooded foothills. You can build a burn deck for around $300 and all it'll be missing is a few fetchlands and goblin guides.
The situation you're in if you want to play a shitty brew doesn't change. Standard is probably your best bet if you want to see success with a shitty brew. In both Modern and Legacy, you can expect to get your shit pushed in by goyfs and linear decks.
Check em, you fags. Sidenote, Eidolon of Rhetoric against Living End is pure fun.

Surprised at the amount of times you win via beatdown. I mean CoCoing 6 times against control while having been wrathed twice and still having a grip is pure value.
No. The strength of running a nonstandard counter like Mana Tithe is that people don't play around it. People already leave three mana up for Mana Leak, which means the first Rune Snag is just worse; once they see you're running Rune Snag, the jig is up and they'll leave up the right amount of mana.
The surprise factor is even worse when you look at cards like Gitaxian Probe, Inquisition, and Thoughtseize
Just run mana leak
But once I have revealed the Rune Snag by playing one, I don't care that it's not a secret since it will force them to leave 1/3/5 extra mana up compared to Leak.
Anyway I wasn't even thinking about the surprise factor I was just wondering if it was a worthwhile trade off to let the first be weaker and then the rest be stronger.
I'll try out the Snags and then use Leaks once I have realized that they are just better.
I want this in modern so fucking bad
Fuck you WotC
All of the above PLUS zombie tokens
It would actually be extremely easy to recur.
Shame it will never happen
Nah, it's a different cost and anti synergetic.
Plus it's just awful
so built this and liking it so far. I fair well enough against infect after board but die like a bitch to merfolk.
I'm not sure about tezzeret, maybe cut him for a fabricate or a 3rd treasure mage...
I wonder who could be behind this post
That's new player 101. A teenager newbie at my LGS that started after DTK wants to get into modern with stompy and ultil he pulls together these crazy funds needed to make that happen people here give him spare decks to play at events (He goes to time with Affinity, every time.). Whatever the case, every time he loses he pulls that shit all the time and I remember I did that when I got salty when I was starting out.
How does this look?
Torrent elemental is bad here but I need something at later game to cast.
I need a replacement for him.
I'm thinking teferi would be a good choice if i could get him.
Stuff from standard would be nice as i might have easy access to them.
Not sure what creatures i should run in side board, feel like i have enough counters as it is.
decks i know in my meta, are tron, elves and delver.
fairly new to modern.
Only issues is I am a poorfag, so i can't spend 150$ on a playset of cards.
