My childhood would've been 100x better with this shit
got hit with a fookin cease and desist before mine got shipped
Toho actually approved everything about G98, so it's kinda hypocritical to hate it now
That's because they only started hating it when they realized a lot of the fans did. Toho is very business/market driven, they'll back or pull support from something based on what makes them money. When Godzilla 2000 first came out, the official word was that it was made due to Godzilla 98's success,a nd to fill in time as it was taking a while for the 98 movie's sequel. Then later on, the story changed to be that G2000 was made to make a "real" Godzilla movie since 98 wasn't. The '98 design was also pushed in Japan in games and some merchandise, but once they realized fans disliked it is when they started distancing themselves from it.
> Not atomic breath
> Not near invincible
> Lay eggs
And so on, but the design was pretty cool
Also Emmerich admitted he didn't give a shit about Godzilla, that's why the show was much better because it had actual G fans in the production team. The movie was a great monster flick on his own, but as Godzilla film, it was more a parody than anything
And yet they completely shit on the first draft of the movie and the Stan Winston design. I know it was for "budget reasons" but the actual costed a lot more than the scrapped project
And to stay in the subject, pic related
Seriously, japen just circlejerks all over godzilla.
'he is invicibru, honorabru and manuly maleu'
They really lost their shit when someone made it to be a believable monster instead of an anime lead character.
That shit only really happened in the last 25 years or so. Early on, Godzilla didn't even always get top billing, he'd often lose in a movie(or at least not clearly "win"). It wasn't until towards the end of the first series that they started the bullshit hax powers. They bought it back down for the second series, but gradually went nuts with it again, giving him powerups like a video game character. Then the millenium series just began with him being able to regenerate and survive blackholes.
Ironically, Godzilla really isn't all that popular in Japan anymore in terms of movies. He's become a Mickey Mouse. everyone knows him, but while the modern media starring him is somewhat successful, it's not crazy box office level.
Yeah, Hot Shot is cool and all, but this beauty getting cancelled is the real travesty.
The original godzilla film was basically a huge metaphor for the atomic bombings of Japan. Most of the other Toho Kaiju films were metaphors for similar things too, like anti-war or anti-pollution statements. "Zilla" was a gay american butchery that had nothing to do with actual Godzilla in any way, other than the name. Basically just a giant lizard monster movie that used Godzilla's name to try and rake in more views and money.
Maybe in like the first 3. But since then it's been just a giant monster fighting robots, maser beams and other monsters.
Hell, I think Zilla is fine. Less impressive, sure, but fine nonetheless.
The movie sucked because it sucked, not because it had less "meaning". All Monsters Attack again was worse than 98 because at least there were a few interesting ideas in 98. Somehow Toho thought a clip show with a shit power rangers villain tacked on was acceptable.
That jet fuel can't melt steel beams.
Why are there people in this thread saying good things about godzilla 98? What the fuck is wrong with you people? That shit was a travesty. They just wanted to capitalize on jurassic park's success so they made some retarded dinosaur movie and called it godzilla even though the monster was small, sneaky, didn't shoot lazers and didn't look anything like godzilla. Not to mention the movie itself sucked. It got a 16% on rotten tomatoes for a reason people. 2014 at least felt paced and wasn't 90% romance bullshit. (there was some romance bullshit but less)
Pretty much most of what Palisades was working on when they shut down.
>Red & Stimpy Series 2
>More Adult Swim
The comic lasted all of 3 issues, it's been almost 20 years. and the author is dead now; but I still want a Stargods Ra.
The Tribune line by Kaiyodo got cut short halfway through. There's a prototype pic of Legato out there, and Millie was most likely going to be made since Meryl's diorama base had pegs to plug into another one.
I'm the original guy you were responding to, that other guy is a full retard. I've never even seen cloverfield.
I thought it was a shitty monster movie even without the godzilla elements. I have a hard time remembering a single scene and I just recently watched it. But thats just my opinion. Although my opinion is backed by pretty much every critic and every person I've ever spoken to before this thread.
I'd forget about this if companies bothered to make poseable Dead or Alive figures. there has to be SOME profit for it, but im also afraid that if there was then it may end up a Play Arts or somehting...or they won't make Tina.
The only way I can console myself over the loss is by telling myself there is no way the final version would have looked anywhere near that good, and that I hate that style of hips with a passion.
What about THE cancelled series of all the cancelled series? :(
Godzilla 98 apologists have been coming out of the woodwork ever since Godzilla 2014 came out back in May. Now that there's a new American Godzilla the contrarian faggots have to come out and claim Emmerich's fuck up was some misunderstood classic while shitting on the new hotness. Just ignore them.
One good thing about Godzilla 98 is Godzilla didn't look like a guy in a fat suit. The design was bad ass, as was the way it swam through the water. The movie itself was admittedly shitty though.
Way to try and discredit anyone's opinion based on random trains of thought.
Fuck, Zilla may have been a bad movie, but fuck, it doesn't deserve the fucking backlash it gets. Watch godzilla 2000 and honestly tell me it's a huge improvement over zilla.
Because it isn't.
It was good, it has some flaws but it's still better and I want a sequel
It worked for me as a revival of the franchise. The scenes where Godzilla appeared were all that mattered and those scenes were hype as fuck.
Now that we got the introductions out of the way, the sequels can hopefully deliver. They've got Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah to use now. Let's see how they do it.
I'll always feel my Mazinger is incomplete since we'll never get this. Not even as an exclusive.
Awesome toy company, great attention to detail too.
Spot on paint jobs with zero quality control issues that still are unrivalled today, they also invented the con exclusives and stuffed their figures full with accessories.
Shame they died.
It got canceled for the movie. That and Cartoon Network was apparently a giant cocksucker to Hasbro.... AND Hasbro was already working on a new Channel that would be home to all their properties.
>It got canceled for the movie
>That and Cartoon Network was apparently a giant cocksucker to Hasbro....
>AND Hasbro was already working on a new Channel that would be home to all their properties.
Didn't know they were already planning on doing the Hub at that stage, it's a shame the channel didn't work out.
I'm surprised Hasbro's back with CN for Robots in Disguise, hopefully there'll be no problems this time.
Since Hasbro's partnered with CN again, it would be great if they brought back Animated, it was the most successful TF show, after all, I'm sure alot of people would like to see it return. Sucks that Hasbro's so preoccupied with that Aligned continuity of theres...
I loved Sigma 6 for it's great looking figures and accessory count. I never got why the GI Joe fandom couldn't get over MUH NOSTALGIA and accept the line for what it was. And then Hasbro pulled the plug on Sigma 6 for movie reasons. Just as it was getting good with all the Adventure Team figures.
And to add insult to injury: WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN NOT-CHUCK NORRIS, BUT THE LINE WAS CANCELLED.
Oh, and Scarlet too.
To be fair, Hub wasn't a thing until after the first TF movie was a smashing success. Hasbro used the profits from the movie to use as seed money for the Hub channel.
And then MLP became a smashing success while nobody watched anything else on the channel. We'll miss you, Dan.
The one character I would've loved to have, and he was part of the cancelled second series. Also, I've read that Palisades' fourth Resident Evil series was going to include Jill, the only one of the four classic protagonists that got left out.
We got the figure but were the shit is the Blast Mode accessory pack?
I have no idea what you're talking about. I know a number of people who thought Godzilla '98 was okay way before the 2014 movie was announced.
I've never heard of someone claiming it was a classic and better than the new one. Unless they were a mongoloid and didn't know any better.
I only have a few Palisades figures, but they're fantastic display pieces. I will admit that I've had some issues with figures (Ren's neck snapped right away because of it being thin and the paint locking up the joint) but it's far less than companies out today.
It was supposed to be an exclusive figure, but he sold poorly hence why Bandai removed the entry off their website and didn't bother selling him.
Likewise with his bike.
This second series would've featured glow-in-the-dark repaints of figures. Ridiculous, but neat. I'm still sad about the Ultimasaurus not making it, though.
Fucking...fuck. The Anubis got canceled when Jakks did the Mummy Returns line, and then SOTA was doing it for their Now Playing line, but then SOTA up and died. Fuck! I want this figure!
Resaurus was going to do a Quake 1 and 3 line before they went under. Also more Duke Nukem figures.
There's never going to be an honest to goodness decent Shadow figure for the rest of time, the toys from the shitty movie are the best I could've asked for.
This mother fucker. Yeah I know the FF movie sucked but this figure was awesome. It's a shame that the line got canceled before this figure got a release. No store would order the case with him in it since they were already flooded with previous waves nobody wanted.
In case anyone is wondering, the figure is based on Annihilus' appearance in the FF video game based on the movie universe.
The writing and story editing was awesome. They almost literally took classic comics and just translated them for the show.
The animation though was shit. Hyper anime B.S.
The only Muppet ones I have are the kitchen and lab playsets and Super Grover, but yeah those all have very solid figures. I almost want to try tracking down more Muppets just because the figures look so nice and I'm not even a huge Muppet fan.
He was the main bad guy! Why doesn't he have a good figure!?
>He was the main bad guy! Why doesn't he have a good figure!?
You just answered your own question, Japan doesn't care about villains unless they're named Raoh.
Gojira, Godzilla vs. Mothra, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Godzilla vs. the Astro Monster, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla('74), Terror of Mechagodzilla, Godzilla 1985, Godzilla vs. Biollante, and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.
The rest are "OK" or worse.
Can't go wrong with Adventure Kermit, they're not too hard to track down either for a reasonable price.
Except for Rowlf, but then again he comes with a grand piano which was detailed as fuck.
Man I completely forgot that I even had Adventure Kermit. What an awesome figure.
I'd like to one day get the Jim Henson figure they did, but I don't know if I want it bad enough for what it goes for.
I'd definitely need to track down a regular Kermit to sit on his lap.
The best thing about Quake 1 were the mystical castle words and fiends. I can not believe they never did more with that aesthetic and switched to generic scifi shooting with part 2.
>I'm surprised Hasbro's back with CN for Robots in Disguise, hopefully there'll be no problems this time.
Cartoon Network was really wonky with TFA... they held most of the rights to the show because I'm pretty sure they produced it as well... so I dont think Hasbro could even put out the series on dvd at first.
Hopefully this time Hasbro has enough clout to tell CN to eat a dick, and produce it themselves.
>Neca passes up on walking dead license
>makes left four dead action figures
>meanwhile clementine of all people gets an action figure
Didn't Neca use to be part of McFarlane? They should probably get some business sense like good ol Todd
we...we.. will never get a SOTA Dee Jay with interchangeable maraca hands...
About 10 years ago, a friend of mine and I, both huge Muppet fans, spent most of our free time tracking these figures down. We'd look up toy stores all over the area and go on road trips to hunt down figures while listening to Muppet CDs. We both had pretty sizable collections. The best thing (aside from the amazing detail) was the accessories these things came with. They were so much fun.
I ended up selling most of mine a while back. I needed the money and the space. Made a profit on them. I'd say I regret it, but I still have the memories, which was honestly my favorite part. I did keep Rainbow Connection Kermit. Despite his lacking articulation, he was my favorite. Well, him and Patrol Bear Fozzie.
Not entirely accurate. The only ambiguous ending was King Kong vs Godzilla.
And it was established that the military couldn't do shit cause he was nigh indestructible as early as the 4th movie, Godzilla vs Mothra.
Great animation for that show but shit writing.
Frog Thor canceled?
If only. Matt Frank has one of the Zilla prototypes that is in the pic but the majority of the lines prototypes are being held by this guy who use to work for trendmasters. He basically parades them around online in front of the kaiju community and complains when people besides him post pics of them.
You fool, that's what they want you to think!
fuck, image didnt get posted.
Pic related. Cause there's no way that i wouldn't want a badass nam vet, a biker a qt and a black guy on my shelf
Sure, Ash, Shaun of the Dead, fucking all of the cast of reservoir dogs can all get figures but these? Nahh.
They say it's because they wouldn't sell well, but it's probably because of licensing fees. If you're a fan of l4d, you'd know valve brought in and hired models to do the mocap for the faces. Francis was a mix of one of their designers and I think Johnny Knoxville though.
I imagine neca thought if they couldn't sell some of the least popular zombies, it wouldn't be worth it to get the rights for the survivors. It's odd though, despite then using the least popular zombies, I'm sure they sold pretty well.
Henshin Cyborg 99
There were several other versions of King Walder planned with new heads, revamped costumes/armor that would make use of the new magnets, and even design sketches for Cyborg girls but it flopped hard.
A buuuuuuuuuuuuunch of SOTA's molds were stolen and there's a buuuuunch of bootleg SOTA toys out there now. I know their World of Warcraft Tauren is one of them that's often bootlegged, a number of Street Fighter figures, and so on. It's a damn shame.
I'll never have a chameleon figure from GTS, feels bad man
The shipping prices are too high in my country, but I've a found pic related for nothing, which is nice
