Come here to talk about all your favorite Toys to Life stuff; Skylanders, Amiibo, Disney Infinity, Lego Dimensions and whatever third party stuff from companies jumping on the money train.
Please remember to take accompanying video game discussion to >>>/v/, where i'm sure you'll likely find no one wants to talk about it. Take your trolling to >>>/b/ where I'm sure someone will appreciate your shitty opinion.
>Disney Infinity 3.0 is out NOW!
>Maskless 3.0 Cap figure and the rest of the Marvel wave launch in March 2016
>Kylo Ren and Poe Dameron will be released alongside Star Wars the Force Awakens playset on December 18th
>Skylanders Superchargers out NOW!
>"Wave 6" Smash Amiibo out NOW!
>Yoshi Woolly World along side the Yarn Yoshi amiibo are finally out in NA!
>Lego Dimensions out NOW!
I went to stores, and saw the Skylanders Superchargers sets...
and apparently, as far as the people in the stores and I know.
Bowser is for the 3ds and for the Wii, and DK is for the Wii U version..... which mean at the moment it isnt a way to get Bowser... which is really sad.
I guess that way if you are a really hard collector, you are going to end up paying for a complete set if you are crazy enough, specially if scalpers start getting more expensive.
I bought the Wii U version and the 3DS version cause they're different games, still not great, but it makes sense to sell them that way cause they only work on nintendo consoles anyway, the dark versions are gonna be a scalpers delight though
I went a little nuts on Skylanders Superchargers yesterday. Bought the Dark Edition Starter Set for Xbox One, Frightful Fiesta, his car and one of Jet Vac,s plane at Best Buy. Then I went to Target to get the Nitro Stealth Stinger to go with the Dark Stealth Elf. Then to Toys r Us to get Legendary Jet Vac and the Legendary Astroblast and vehicle set. I just wanted to grab all of the variants now while before they went up in price.
Well, nothing is certain. If First Avenger Cap is well recieved, we don't know what other alternate characters could get. We already Have Mickey and Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey who are quite different from each other, plus I remember Classic Maleficent being mentioned somewhere by a higher up, so it's not entirely out of the question.
Besides, they need to make costumes that are actually costumes, like Stitch's spacesuit, Ben Kenobi, or Comic Ultron.
I'm not familiar with Infinity, but wouldn't it be possible to add "costumes" and the like with power discs? That Kingdom Hearts one could spell a future where they have costumes or skins you can apply or give to characters
The new Star Wars trailer is out, and is it bad that I kind of care more about getting more figures than I do seeing the actual movie?
That little Kylo Ren is so damn cute. He wants to look scary and he just isn't.
> I just wanted to grab all of the variants now while before they went up in price.
Of all the store variants, TRU's legendaries are usually the most common/shelfwarming due to how much they stock.
Also some people just want separates for their NRFB collection or didn't want only one character from said 3 pack, but I'm guessing a bulk of the nrfb people are importing EU versions.
I dont know what im feeling. I regret never getting figuarts regular goku, and he was readily available in many nearby stores. But i hated DBZ and he doesnt really have a place in my collection, and yet i still feel like he's an essential like an Optimus Prime or a Batman
I wasn't concerned about the Jet Vac figure cause there was about 30 racks of them on the wall. The Astroblast set comes with a bonuse race thing and they only had about eight of them at my TrU. That's the one that had me concerned. I didn't want to end up missing out on them like I did the Light and Dark Trap Team sets.
>Gravity Falls Playset
>Dipper and Wendy Pack-in, Mabel, Stan, Soos sold seperately.
>Dipper is all-around, Wendy is brawler, Mabel is distance, Stan is a tank, Soos is support.
>A Zeldaesque adventure traveling through the woods, the bunker, the catacombs beneath Northwest Manor, and more, helping townspeople, fighting monsters, etc.
>Gravity Falls Power Disc Pack: Zombie Fighter Stan, Northwest Mansion Mystery Dipper, Portal Malfunction Event, Rumble McSkirmish Team Up.
I'd buy it. Day one.
The fuck is this shit?
figures + vidya games + lazertag cosplay arm ?
essentially a very expensive game of laser tag with toys. The video was pretty neat but showed nothing on gameplay until we got an article about it later in the day that showed it was just physical toys that you can "shoot" with laser accessories and shit.
I'm assuming there's some sort of video game component too.
>MFW Cybug King Candy are Marshmellow are just props and not actual enemies.
Fuck. Now how is CKC gonna be a boss in my version of Kingdom Hearts 3?
>I'm assuming there's some sort of video game component too.
Nope. Captain Power at least had a VHS tape, too.
So I bought the SMB Amiibo display. It's even cooler out of the box with the individual boxes to arrange. Planning to get a second already.
Actually fam, I might be able to hook you up with a pre-release build.
>At the very least easily all of those together cost£400
They need to fix the camera for gamepads because it's currently horse shit.
So, my Best Buy has a big display of Amiibos with the sign "Look who's back!"
It was full of Lucario, Marth, Little Mac, Dark Pit, and a couple others. It was super weird looking at a couple dozen Marths all sitting on a shelf. It was like the nightmare was over, and we can all start enjoying our hobby normally again.
My Best Buy got a bunch too but they were just put on an end cap among Skylanders. Last I checked, tons of Marths, Dark Pits, Captain Falcons and Foxes were still there a week later. Being able to just walk in at any time and pick up an amiibo, this is how it always should have been.
See I've always kind of wondered if the amiibo would have taken off if they had been in heavy supply.
Without people racing to stores and waiting in line, stores wouldn't see it as generating hype and getting people in the door, and they may not stock as much, leaving no one able to buy stuff. Although I guess that kind of works the other way too with how it is now.
Potentially soon. Still don't know who First Cap's pack-in partner is since all the playsets come with one guy and one girl and I don't see any new vaginas here.
It'll most likely be Scarlett Witch, but I'd rather have Wasp despite her not actually showing up officially and not making any since in context with the playset.
This is probably to soon to think about.
But i was wondering.
Disney Infinity 1.0 was the start, and heavy on Pixar movies
Disney Infinity 2.0 was Marvel Theme
Disney 3.0 is heavely Star wars Theme
Disney 4.0... it will go for a "the movies we are showing now" theme? or what could be the focus? Disney buy shonen jump or something?
Ayy, whoever recommended Sabine, thanks
She's A+++ Waifu Materia
So alot of the content would be muppets and sesame street
or get fraggle rocks and just go puppet theme.
And there is levels where all your other figures have a puppet version of itselve.
It was stated that these first three games were setting up the "pillars" of DI, the three main franchises.
It seems that 4.0 won't be focusing on some new franchise family, but is instead gonna build upon the Disney 'Originals', Marvel, and Star Wars themes.
It's limited right now. You can't play playsets outside of trials, you can't play takeover or Speedway and your toy box saves are limited. I hit the max so I can't even save.
If you just want to mess around, go ahead but there's not much you can do.
I could only get 3.0 for ps3 but getting a ps4 soon, can I still use the baseplate from my ps3 set with it so all I have to do is download or buy disc only the game and not a whole new starter???
i think you cant use the same plate.
but dont call me on that, i dont really know, im guessing
She's from the TV show Star Wars Rebels
Do you think we will get Harry potter? I want this game but I am waiting to see if they will release more series or just expand on what they have.
Intergalactic Proton Powered Electrical Tentacled Advertising Droids!
Intergalactic Proton Powered Electrical Tentacled Advertising Droids!
Intergalactic Proton Powered Electrical Tentacled Advertising Droids!
With the main Potter series being done and only the spinoff movies coming out, I dont think we'll see anything for a while. It's actually kind of bizarre to not have anything HP related coming out. It'd be nice to at least have Harry + something like the Weasley's flying car as a combo set or something.
I'm all but certain Harry Potter is going to be the big "push" for 2016's Lego DIMENSIONS line-up, like how DC Comics and Lord of the Rings was for 2015.
What I'm wondering is what the other little bits will be. The licensed stuff from Universal and FOX means there's a lot of potential for wild cards, and WB is running low on franchises they own that they can exploit (hence Harry Potter being so likely).
Part of me wants to see a Five Nights at Freddy's set come the fuck out of nowhere like the Portal and Simpsons sets.
>out of nowhere like the Simpsons
Don't forget Midway Arcade.
Midway literally isn't a company anymore. It's like, who is this toy for? I'm certain their target audience is children, but that set is 100% for Dad to buy.
I think the only disk i missing now from 1.0 is the Danville sky box
So how do you display your figures of choice?
Not mine, but I'd love a display like this.
So if I get this thing I can use the figures, the base, all the shit with any version of the game right? Xbox, PS3, PC? Provided I have the disc of course.
I ask because I want to get it for my nephews for christmas cause it's cheap and has all of the Avengers, but they don't have a PS4.
Hey you're in the Star Wars thread on /co/ I saw that.
And yeah Microsoft peripherals are kinda bullshit so as long as it's for Sony/Nintendo/PC you're good. But if your nephew has a 360/Xbone you're gonna have to get those specific versions. IIRC you can't even use the 360 one on the Xbone.
Be aware that if you buy him/he gets 3.0, he won't be able to play the Playset levels.
Using the Avengers Tower "disc" will only unlock the toybox items you'd usually earn by playing through the Playset in 2.0.
Same goes for 1.0 playsets; you can't play them using 3.0 or 2.0.
Aw, that is stupid. Well thanks for the info, guess I'll have to get them another base AND disc.
>Hey you're in the Star Wars thread on /co/ I saw that
Heh, caught red-handed. Let's just say that while my nephews are all about the superheroes right now, I see a golden opportunity to expand into the Star Wars side of things in the near future...
>Be aware that if you buy him/he gets 3.0, he won't be able to play the Playset levels
What, really? That's bizarre. Why do they segment the game like this? I figured the different versions were just updates.
How does the PC version work then?
>What, really? That's bizarre
They completely revamped the engine for 3.0, they got Team Ninja to do all of the combat.
I think it's because they can't be bothered to fix bugs for old content in a new game, really.
>How does the PC version work then?
The same, but the clients are free to download.
On the PS3 you can download 2.0 and 3.0 but they aren't free, you'd probably be better off buying the game discs from ebay or something.
Microsoft has a strict policy when it comes to third party peripherals. All devices must have some sort of special license in order for them to work on a 360 or Xbone and they're not cross compatible. That's why the 360 portal only works for the 360 and the Xbone only works for Xbone.
The other wins will work on any device. So a Wii U portal will work on a PS3 and vice versa.
I recently snatched up a copy of the Wii version for 40 Yurp moneys, which was a pretty good deal, all things considered. You gotta look at it this way: If the figures were sold as singles, you wouldn't be getting off that much cheaper anyway. Over here at least, Supercharger figures are 12.99. Vehicles are 15.99. That makes all the figures in the set worth 41.97. I basically saved 1.97 and got the game for free.
I was waiting for a price drop like this because I knew the Racing version would be clogging shelves like mad, but I didn't expect it to happen this fast. If this continues, they'll be throwing them out for 20 bucks soon enough.
wat my bbs have a shit ton of dark pits, even more falcons, and a good amount of macs. they have a few zss, fox, and ganondorf. but i could get ganondorf at almost any amiibo retailer where i live.
Then there is no way to use your real life sets into the pc version....
That is kind of lame, for not saying really lame....
because then you are going to be buying all the sets and figures, but with out the physical part....
Can anyone else just not get past the loading screen of the PC version? I load it up, get past the menus and the "Press A to start" screen, and then it crashes before barely a fourth(Or sometimes none) of the loading bar gets filled every single time.
that's pretty kick ass and i would have done something like that if I remembered to save my box's cards.
I ended up going to walmart and got these styrofoam rectangles, glued them in a stair like pattern and then got some wood pieces to hold up the back stairs flat. Painted them up, and put little round stickers on them with the character's series logo. It was pretty neat although with all the DLC characters I'm gonna have to figure out how i want to rearrange everything.
I did, I had levelled Quorra up and she was back to 0 when I started 3.0.
Granted, I only played 2.0 a little bit so it doesn't matter that much to me.
I have a few questions about Disney Infinity (ps4)
What does the portal plug into?
Would I need some kind of table or desk space for it and the toys?
How often are you swapping things out, is it enough that I'd want to play at a desk or have a coffee table if I'm on a couch?
The base plugs into a usb port. It has a sizable wire, so Inwouldn't worry too much about a table.
How much you swap is all dependent on you. In order to change characters or power discs, you need to swap them out, so if you like having a variety of characters to choose or die a lot, you'll be swapping a fair amount. Still, it's not like LEGO dimensions where swapping on the base is actually a gameplay feature.
Homestly, I'd say PC is the best way to go since you can switch characters and apply discs from a menu, on top of the obvious performance enhancements. Still, if you have any series 1/2 power discs, you can't use them on pc.
If you somehow can't find the figure, then yes, Repunzel is a no go. You can just buy her digitally if you just want to play as her though.
Have you tried checking Toys R Us? All the ones I've ever been to have had crap tons of every figure from each series.
Just opened my Toy Box Takeover. Did they really need all that packaging for a single disc? I feel like it shouldve been some flat blister card
I'm a bit lost since I mostly play skylanders but I've got DI2.0 on Wii U, can I get 3.0 in non-physical form for less since I don't really want the characters, but I want to play with Hulkbuster, which is a magnificent figure.
Yep they're back in stock at TRU, they had about 20 Shulks when I went today.
Finally took the Amiibo plunge and got Olimar, Ganondorf, Capt Falcon, Fox, Shulk, Greninja and Lucario as my first ones.
I plan to pick up Pikachu, Super Mario Peach, Rosalina, ROB, Dedede, Zelda, Pit, Mega Man, Duck Hunt, Chibi-Robo, some of the Animal Crossings later
Y'all got your Hulkbusters yet?
Picked him and Ultron up today
I haven't grabbed the game yet because I wouldn't be able to play it until I got a new TV anyway. The figures were kind of an impulse buy because Hulkbuster really caught my eye as I was walking past them.
Honestly Hulkbuster looks amazing, probably would have bought him just to put on my shelf anyway
Yeah that's what I dig about DI, most of the figures just look great by themselves
The game is fun but right now Hulkbuster and Ultron will be Toybox mode only, we'll have to wait until they release the Marvel playset. But you can use all 2.0 and 3.0 Marvel characters in that which is nice.
There seems to be a quality jump for 3.0. The 2.0 ones I have look fine but if you look up close there's mold lines and some slight coloring issues like some flesh color going onto the edge of Cap's mask which is fair for a $12 toy imo.
But by comparison the 3.0 toys look fantastic, Hulkbuster looks super clean, if it was an inch taller I could see it going for $30-40 easy
I feel like there's a case-by-case thing, there. I'm really happy with my Nick Fury from 2.0, but I was looking at Ultron in the store today and there were some weird sculpt choices that sort of made me put it down and just get the Maul.
So how is Dimensions? Nobody seems to ever talk about it
Is it the kind of thing you can just buy only what you like for? I saw the Benny in the store today and almost impulse bought him
I gave it a shot. I love the regular LEGO games and most of the franchises in Dimensions.
You know all those bad things people assume about toys-to-life games? They're actually true with Dimensions. Sure, you can beat the game just fine with the main pack, but virtually every other collectible is locked behind something that requires extra characters. Sometimes things will be locked behind MULTIPLE different abilities so you require more than one extra pack just to get it.
The overall quality is great, the cross-dimensions humour is funny, the presentation is top notch. But the entire game feels like such a cash grab. I played a few levels and haven't touched it since, it just depresses me.
It doesn't help that the figure are just tiny LEGO creations. They don't feel as cool as having a nice Disney Infinity figure where you get value just from the figure itself.
That's really sad, I guess trying to fanwank so many franchises at once is really expensive.
I mean, I'm definitely not above dumping a bunch of money into bullshit in a video game but those were always purely cosmetic stuff. I hate feeling like I actually need to spend the extra money.
You can still do every main mission and explore 3 of the "Adventure worlds" with the base pack, but there's a collectible or something every 10 feet that requires an extra ability so it gets very annoying.
Like I said, the overall quality is great, it's just the additional figure packs scheme they went with that sucks, especially compared to Disney Infinity where you don't feel punished just for not having all the packs.
This is the way their Lego Minifig MMO was. Everything was locked behind literal paywalls, until they decided I guess they were getting too much bad press and not enough autism bucks, so the game is no longer F2P, you have to BUY the game to unlock your minifigs in it. It's total bullshit.
I've only gotten into DI with 3.0 and had intended to only buy characters I wanted to play, but the designs and quality of the figures is just so damn good I know I'm going to end up with a bunch more. There are a lot of great amiibos but there are also a lot of mediocre looking ones. And skylanders look pretty crummy as figures from what I've seen.
I hope they can keep up this level of quality.
Same. I passed on Disney Infinity 1.0 because it was all Pixar. Passed on 2.0 because I don't really care about Marvel either. But with the introduction of Star Wars + more originals I was finally onboard.
Originally had a list of like 10 figures I wanted.
I now have over 70. Every single Disney Original and Star Wars figure.
I did this once before with Skylanders and had every Skylander and Giant but ended up selling them all away. But with these they're high quality enough and I enjoy Disney so much that I don't regret it at all. Plus the game is actually good.
>tfw e shop doesn't take amex so I'll never use it
Bart Simpson was released this week.
He doesn't talk.
There's absolutely ZERO incentive to this game beyond fan connections, and one of the most popular characters in a franchise is completely mute.
>He doesn't talk.
Kinda glad I didn't pick this up then. I'll probably just grab Benny and Princess Unikitty (because im a gay like that) and not touch the game unless I see it for cheap second hand like what happened after the Rock Band/Guitar Hero crash.
There's just... not much to it.
It's 100% fan service, but fan service can only carry a game so far. There's no character leveling or customization, no mode for user created content (ironic that the Disney game encourages more creativity than fucking LEGO), not even a versus system.
It's a game that lives and dies by clever writing and catering to fans... but a joke is only funny the first time you hear it. And there's NO joke that's worth one hundred dollary-doos.
Cool article on Disney Infinity
Includes look at Vision prototype
Skylanders and Disney Infinity by design have replaybility built in. You can level up your characters, make them fight each other, trade'em and in the case of Disney Infinity, create your own scenarios.
Dimensions is one and done. If you enjoyed previous Lego games, you know a fraction of what you're getting. You may enjoy it, or you may actually end up getting pissed off by everything that use to be part of a package now being locked off.
You're thinking of some of the other LEGO games (Lord of the Rings, Jurassic World)
This one they actually did get a decent amount of the voice talent from the franchises to do new lines. They got Homer, but not Bart. It's really noticeable in the Simpsons levels when it's only Homer talking and every other Simpsons characters just does a visual gag.
As much as I like Animal Crossing, something about the amiibo isn't really doing it for me as much as I would have though. Maybe because their poses are pretty plain?
I really want Cyrus, and K.K. would be nice to have, but I don't care about Reese. I'll probably end up getting the 3 pack anyway...
Gamestop has Splatoon 3 packs again, just picked one up on my way home. Guy said they got 5 in today and I got the last one.
They're in stock online too though
I really like Shizue/Isabelle and Mabel, I'll probably buy the Shizue single from Japan because if I wanted to drop 60+ on Isabelle I'd get the Nendoroid
The Simpsons level was recycled clips from an episode. But, what's super fucking creepy is the way that apparently they only had the rights to use Homer's voice and no one else.
Go ahead and watch a playthrough. It's super odd and LEGO games normally have more polish and quality than this shit. I kind of want my money back, but I like the car.
So about DI compatibility
You can use old figures in new content but not new figures in old content? Like I could use Hiro in the Star Wars playset but I couldn't use Hulkbuster or Obi Wan in a 1.0 playset?
Playsets are restricted to the characters from that set/franchise. So you can only use Star Wars characters in a Star Wars playset.
But in terms of the different versions (1.0, 2.0, 3.0), you can only use a playset in the version it's from. And since the character data is only in new versions the characters obviously aren't backwards compatible.
But you can use EVERY figure in toybox 3.0 mode. There's no restrictions there.
Characters are forward compatible; 1.0 characters work in everything, 2.0 in 2.0 and 3.0, 3.0 only in 3.0.
Play sets can only be played with specific characters. The Marvel and Star Wars sets initially only allow characters from the specific setting (ie Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca for Rise Against the Empire) but you can find coins within them that allow you to use other characters from that series (ie playing as Ahsoka on Hoth).
The toy box and its expansions can be played with any character. Except you can't use Cars characters in toybox takeover, as they have no combat abilities.
While Fox is apparently stingy as fuck about their Simpsons assets, Hanna-Barbera is apparently really cool.
I really hate Spot's design
There's absolutely nothing appealing about a gross child wearing a loin cloth and running around like a monkey. The design reminds me of all those shit 90s cartoons that confused being funny with being a gross as possible. Oh yeah, loud chewing noises, farting, burping and a constant flow of mucus, absolutely hilarious Mega Babies.
Also fuck everything that's about one thing but has to include humans and kids in it to be relatable.
Just expected more because Vader felt so fun and had this sense of weight behind him that set him apart.
But Maul just feels like any other Star Wars character. Force Push. Dash for ranged. And his special is a boring shockwave. Just nothing unique.
The sad reality must be that the Johnny Cash estate must be easier to work with than a couple of overpaid voice actors. Unless Nancy Cartwright's scientology overlords tell her to do something.
>go to Best Buy
>they have a promotional amiibo setup for the restocks with pictures of Captain Falcon and the others along with text saying "Guess Who's Back?"
>the restocks are long gone and it's being used to hold shelfwarmers
That sucks, are you able to find the US versions ever?
On Amazon in the US there's a bunch of sellers who have the Japanese and UK/EU versions for slightly less than the US versions on some characters.
Didn't they fully voice their characters in the Simpsons games though? You'd think a couple phrases, even archive dialogue would be relatively easy to implement. And Lego's a big company too.
That Falco though.
In this case, I would have preferred sound alikes. I'd rather have a town full of people that sound similar to their characters than one with a spot on voice.
Of course, that raises the issue of writing for all those characters, but that's assuming they wouldn't just be repeating popular lines out of context.
Since LEGO is juggling so many brands here, they should have gone back to the miming of the first few star wars LEGO games. It's jarring to see one or two characters talk while everyone is a mute, especially when side characters are half the appeal.
It says rare amiibo in general, hopefully they'll have King Dedede as well.
>In this case, I would have preferred sound alikes.
Me too, I'm sure there's plenty of professional VAs who can do spot on performance. Like how Troy Baker did a great Hamil Joker for Batman Origins. You can tell it wasn't Hamil sure but it's like a 9/10 instead of a 10/10
That's so far away though
Might be worth it though, I've only done a black friday when it was the only way to get a PS4 without paying like $700 on ebay and even that wasn't too bad.
Plus the Amiibo "craze" has calmed down a lot.
There you go. Please excuse the crappy picture, but I think it will be enough for what you want to see.
oh yeah, Gamestop doing Skylanders sales too.
Superchargers and Vehicles are $9.99 on Fri/Sat....not a bad deal at all really.
All toys to life stuff sans amiibo (Skylanders, Infinity, Playmation, Lego Dimensions) are buy one get one 50% off Friday too.
Spyro has appeared in the comics pretty regularly as a main character of sorts. I'd certainly hope hat he appears in the tv show in a similar way although it's really hard to say.
Unlike the skylanders games which kind of have to focus on the player as the main character (and by extension, whatever skylander they're playing as) its hard to really have a story driven by the MC. On a show, it'd likely revolve around Flynn, Callie, Tessa and a few Skylanders in each episode.
HOLY SHIT NIGGERS TURN ON CNN
Toys R Us, Amazon, and Best Buy are clearing out Disney infinity only on 11/7! Can't post links because spam filter
Yeah, I had to go to another TRU to get GG, at least it was on the way back from the mall. I just happen to go to the TRU near the Fox Valley mall to kill time. Shock to see the price drop.
Disks where still a $1 but I think I done with that shit.
On a side note I help a man and his sons with a starter set purchase. The whole 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 was confusing the heck out of them. I told them to get 3.0 and buy 2.0 digitally if they like it.
The Father also grabbed Han Solo said "Well of course we going to need Solo"
>The Father also grabbed Han Solo said "Well of course we going to need Solo"
>Dad and his sons probably went home and enjoyed some vidya together.
What a heart warming story
Ultron's upper lip/nose plate thing didn't translate well
I would kill for silver age versions of the Avengers in this line, they're in my pipe dream wishlist. Luckily I think Cap's costume for AoU looked quite fantastic, so I'm picking him up.
FYI Target's current buy-two-get-one-free deal on games seems to include DI, Skylanders, and Lego Dimensions stuff.
