Hello /trv/, have any of you been to Addis Abeba? I want to visit Addis in May with a friend and spend about a week there. I am quite new to ninternational travel, so I'd be glad for any and all tips. >Do you know a good hostel? >Is it reasonable to take a taxi to the north, so we can climb Mt. Entoto by foot? >Have you been to Ethiopia?
Hey anon, I've been in Ethiopia for 2 months now so I'm willing to answer any questions you have.
Personally, I found Addis to be an overcrowded and dirty shithole - can't recommend much to do out there that can be done elsewhere in the country. Got the fuck outta there after 2 days. With that said, the cheapest form of transport in Addis is minibus. You can ask your hotel about where to catch them towards the mountain.
Most tourists stay in Piazza. You can expect to pay around 200-250... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I have a dream that one day i will be able to travel through the world with one bike. I want to work hard and make the money that it needs so after that leave for 1 year and see all the world. Is anyone out there that have done that before in his life? What were your experience about that? I believe there is no such a thing and an experience like this that a man can have in his life.
>>1068844 Haven't done it but I ride motorcycles and have done a few trips in my country on them.
1. This mode of transport is more expensive than pretty much all except solo car travel.
2. Learn how to make repairs on your bike. You don't have to be a full fledged mechanic but you better know how to do some minor tune ups and repairs.
3. If you don't currently ride, get your license now and even if it takes you 5 years to afford a long trip you'll be an experienced rider when you go.... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1068848 1. yeah i am thinking about that too but i love to ride so much, hope to have that much money to do not worry about that :) 2. i sure have to learn about this yeah.. 3. i ride for like 7 years, that won't be a problem 4. never tried something like that before. the longest ride that i have done was like 500 kh but yeah you are right, i need to start from something shorter 5. which bike do you think is right one? I believe every bike above 600cc is capable for something like that.
>>1068854 Yeah I agree anything above 600cc will be good. People have done it on smaller bikes but I think 600cc+ will be comfortable enough and powerful enough to handle all roads. I'm thinking of getting an f650gs this year for a longer trip myself.
So I applied for a semester abroad in China and received confirmation that I can study in Shanghai. Problem is that I also have the opportunity to study in Beijing so I wanted to ask you guys what you would choose.
Which city is better? Which city has more options for travelling? Which city has more interesting sights?
Anybody with experience here that could tell me about both places?
In about two weeks i will be going to papua new guinea for work (geologist, mining exploration). I will probably be there for about 50 days +/-. Will fly into port moresby, then take a small plane into the highlands. Will be living in a field camp which has been built by the client (with showers, cooks, cots, a fuckton of aussies etc).
The study will involve hiking for most od the day every day, and we will have local help to haul equipment (way cheaper than bringing field techs from the usa).
However... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1068813 Information I've got from friends who have been there - one of them multiple times.
After a few days hiking, everything will be wet. Everything. Also, don't expect paths or wildlife. Local guides/porters may try to catch and eat any wildlife you do come across. There's rebels - but they might be chill (moreso than the military) depending on your ties. But, given that you're in the mining business, I'd avoid them - the mining industry has only brought them misery. Indigenous population... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I am flying Lufthansa from South Africa to Chicago. From there I am taking American Airlines as domestic from Chicago to Indianapolis. I bought a bottle of wine for my dad and I am wanting to bring it back. The only problem is that I am 20 years old.
How do I pack this bottle of wine? Should I make it carry on or in my luggage? I am not really concerned with Lufthansa, but American Airlines domestic might be another story.Any advice with underage wine traveling?
>>1068807 I stuffed two bottles of wine in my checked bag flying back from Spain. Granted, I was of drinking age at the time, but I don't think it will be a problem for you. I don't think TSA is cross checking baggage with the age of ticket holders.
>>1068771 I am not familiar with that particular site, but there are a number of scams out there.
By scams, I mean they will sell you a legitimate ticket, usually, but if anything at all goes wrong (and with air travel, things sometimes go wrong) the customer service is non-existent and the airline just refers you back to the sit e that sold you the ticket. Do your due-diligence on the site you buy tickets from -- and recall the thing about deals that are too good to be true.
just turn up. if its not the uni hols it wont be busy, u may be in luck as its probably easter hols i think. if not will be full of old retired northern brits and fat germans and be even shitter than normal. should have chosen somewhere in balearics or canaries

Why not check icelandair website on the way over the pond and use them for the layover. Their flights are priced lower than other airlines in order to entice you to visit.
As far as boats go,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1068719 Is South America "American," or do you mean the USA? If the former, look into the area along Colombia's Caribbean coast, if Cartagena is big enough to qualify as a big city.
I'm going to assume you already know that moving to another country is a bit more complicated than to another state, and that you understand that if you have no employable skillz and/or are poor, it may not be easy...
