I live in the USA (Chicago) and I am thinking about relocating somewhere else because as soon as Illinois, which is BROKE, can't afford to hand out food stamps anymore, all hell will break loose.
I'd like to move out to a more rural location, yet still within a few hour drive of a larger city if need be. Living near a quaint, artsy small town is good too.
I love to garden, and food production/self-sustainability is a high priority for me. I'd like to live where land and housing is cheap and own a few acres. I'm politically more on the conservative... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Go move to North Carolina. If you want that rural lifestyle head towards the mountains but you'll still be within an hour or two drive of Asheville and Boone. Its got the vibe that you are looking for and it doesn't have too many "progressive lefties" out there. Being in the mountains you'll have some snow but nothing like it is up north. Also North Carolina has a good reputation for having a friendly population, especially in the region area. I live in the Piedmont but its a few hours drive to the mountains and its not very rural here.
The one and only thing that keeps me from being extremely interested in that area is the hot, humid summers. I can't stand them! Cold, snow > hot & humid But mountains always provide shelter and interesting weather patterns locally.
I need /trv/'s view on the world, I'm an average American civilian that doesn't know a whole lot about the world but only in history, but I want to know what things outside of the US can be allowed and what customs I have to follow and what major points in history made the country what it is like today, and a thing that the country allows that the US does not allow and which country that doesn't have a problem with Americans and which are the most peaceful to live in. I love the USA but I want to know what the other half of the world is like, so If you can... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Dutch here. Beer is somewhere between 2 and 5 euros depending on venue. With classic backwater café going as low as 1,50. Food?, if u cook it yourself u can have meat and veggies for less then 5. Restaurants will cozt 10-20 for a disappointing meal. Dutch people only eat out occasionally instead of several times a week /day like for example Asians and South Americans. This makes the prices quite high even for Dutch that earn quite good
Hey guys my question is only partly related to traveling but I guess I'll shoot away anyways.
Feel free to ignore and/or call me a homosexual.
To keep it brief if all goes according to plan I will start studying in the US this fall. I'd get an I-20 document and through that F-1 or J-1 Visa.
Now my question is the following: I was thinking about staying at my girlfriends place in the US for a few weeks/months prior to university and maybe to some light traveling through the US too. Would I be able to figure the student-visa stuff out while... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1068506 You need to get your student visa in line while physically in Germany. It requires an interview at an embassy or consulate, neither of which we have stateside. Before you even apply for it you have to have been accepted to your school of choice. But you could visit your girlfriend and some schools on the Visa Waiver Program, go back, and apply for the visa, obviously.
>>1068511 >>1068513 You Sir, are a Gentleman and a scholar. I deeply want to thank you for your input and hope that you have a nice day.
Do you know by any chance the length of the process to get a visa after you've received your I-20? Also how soon - before the start of the semester would I be able to enter the us on the students visa?
Avoid Quarto Oggiaro if you're a tourist. Milan in general is pretty safe if you hang around in the centre or go clubbing somewhere. Go to at least one Centro Sociale (Leoncavallo, Macao, Cantiere are the main ones
What are your interests OP? I've commuted to Milan daily for years so I'm knowledgeable
Help me, /trv/. I need to find a destination to go with my GF this February for a whole month. Not sure were should we go. Any suggestions? The only thing is that we don't want it to be only beaches. Our budget is of around 3k for the whole month.
>>1068365 When I was there a few years ago there was a semi-decent museum, but visit the tourist info center. There's plenty of things to do in the surrounding area and they tend to have good knowledge of everything at reasonable rates.
It's an elaborate outdoor history museum, including a old timey electric tram and also a separate steam train. One of the steam locomotives is the oldest working example in the country. The tram also has an extremely rare steam tram that is used on occasion.
>>1068356 If you are proficient at teaching, design lessons for schools. If you are proficient at teaching, teach incoming teachers. If you are proficient at teaching, do something related to teaching. ESL is what enabled you to reach Vietnam. Do you think you could have shown up
I actually out loud as I began to type this
looking for work as a scuba instructing in Ho Chi Minh City? Be realistic, you autist.
If you want to make enough money you'll need to diversify.
Start writing. Blogs on travel or ESL teaching. Help guides for ESL teachers. Lesson plans.
Do freelance translations or write legal documents for foreign companies.
Buy/sell shit you can find locally to places where it's more expensive.
If none of those things work cruise ship jobs are a good way to save up money but the jobs will likely suck and you'll be working 10+ hour shifts 6 or 7 days a week for months. Some people are cool with that but others burn out quickly. As... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Alright /trv/, help me out here. I am gonna be going on a 2 week road trip with my friend in America, sleeping in the car, maybe motels, and camping, and I need a couple things compiled in case I am missing something here. I need a packing list, and an idea on some things west of Tennessee that are great to see, and maybe some suggestions and tips in general
I am currently 19 studying computer science looking into either networking or information security. It has always been a dream of mine to move to Ireland not just to leave the US and never look back but to also embrace the culture and experiences available. What are some tips and needed information on moving to Europe from the US?
Ireland is saturated with comp. science majors. Especially after Lisbon and even moreso now that Germany essentially own us. Not impossible to get a job in comp science here but it's competitive.
Best advice if you plan on moving here for some reason? Don't go around telling everyone that you're american or your great grandad was Irish or some shit. It just pisses people off. Especially if you go to the wrong part of Dublin or venture out of the tourist zones.
I lived in France when I was a kid. I learnt the language but sadly forgot it as I got older and moved back to Sweden. Tired of High School I became an Exchange Student in USA, where I'm currently residing. I'm 18 years old and will graduate from my swedish High School when I'm 20. This information might provide you with nothing. My question is (this type of question is probably very frequent, so I'm specifying it): is pic related any good? This is of corse after I've graduated. Have you tried it? In the sense of a gap year, are there better alternatives,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Meet a guy in Japan doing it... For about a month. It's basically like slave labor for farmers or getting an "internship" where they have you doing menial work for the companies benefit only under the guise that you are learning or getting experience or "traveling to an exciting place to meet real locals"
It's cheaper and more fun to backpack and stay in hostels and couch surf. If you want to learn farming. You need to know someone where you want to go. Network your ass off once you get there. Not through wwoof.
>>1068229 >I've been thinking of having a coast to caost roadtrip in the states No one does that (with any sense). You tour the west coast, or the east coast, or you explore a region like the southwest, or the South, or New England, but you don't enjoy cutting cross-country. Fact.
>>1068170 actually, no. unless you want to fight with ukraina against russia. or with any other country, against russia. have you already visited the "good" parts of europe? like italy, spain and france for example?? only place in eat europe you could visit, if you saw the western part already, is croatia and of course greece.
This isn't really EASTERN Europe, but Slovenia is a really good option OP. Very small country but really diverse. The area by the ocean resembles other Agean cities but with a distinct Austro-Italian feel. The Alpine regions are absolutely gorgeous with snow capped mountains of Mt. Triglav. Lake Bled is a world famous summer retreat for many Europeans, and has a really cool castle on an Island in the center. The Karstic region has the most sophisticated network of caverns in the world, so you coild walk for kilometers on end and aee subterranean waterfalls and all sorts... Comment too long. >be me Canadian >almost done double major in forensic sci/french >want to master's abroad >maybe somewhere in UK
So obviously you would need a student visa to do a memster's abroad. Now say for example I wanted to get into policing in the UK, would I be able to get a work visa? Looked up the requirements for policing, commonwealth citizens are allowed as long as they have have a visa. End goal would be to become a citizen.
