Looking for countries in Europe to do a bachelors degree in History. Im from Argentina but I wanna do the course in English, im looking for a place that isnt waaay to expensive but i dont mind paying up to €2000 a year. Any recommendations?
What do you guys do about cell phones while travelling abroad for an extended period of time? I'm going to be staying in Japan for 9 months and everyone tells me to use a SIM card, but I'm not entirely sure how they work.
Once the phone is unlocked, can you just use any old SIM card from an electronics store? Does it have to be a specific one depending on my phone model and/or service provider?
>>1065112 Once the phone is unlocked, considering it is dual-band or matches the band that country actually uses, then the SIM card is like buying time on a local carrier, very much like a Cricket, Boost, or other no-contract phone company operates in the US on the charge-me-up kind of basis.
I also suggest you have a wifi capable phone if possible, and an App like Viber or Magicjack, and getting family/friends involved with that.
If your carrier does work in the country you wish to visit, sometimes it's... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
How do, lads? I'm going to be visiting the south of England late this month for a week, around the Reading area. I will mostly just be hanging out with a good friend and spending time with them, but we don't have much of an idea of what to do aside from visiting 2 or so places and traipse around the woods near where they live. I would really appreciate it if any anons from that area could advise on the what/where/how of things.
I'm a quiet sort, I like history, I like greenery, so nightlife is a moot point of sorts. I would like to visit some natural wonders like waterfalls or quarries as I'd love to find some sort of quartz as a souvenir from the hills or rivers. And might also be a weird request, does anyone know of any good tabletop shops around those areas? That sell Warhammer and all that. I figure I might as well have multiple goals in the places I'd visit.
Forgive me for maybe being vague, but I'm quite open-minded when it comes to suggestions.
Well how far are you willing to travel? You could be in the Cotswolds or the Surrey Hills within an hour by train. Or are you just thinking Reading and surroundings? I know there's a warhammer shop in Oxford but there's probably one in Reading too.
>>1065095 I think the farthest we've settled is Windsor on account of me wanting to walk that big stretch of pretty greenery leading to the castle. Friend told me Hungerford is a nice quiet place with lots of antiques too. I have been told Oxford is very pretty but it might be a bit too far/out of budget, I'll check it out.
As for warhams, I don't mean an official Games Workshop store, more an independent store. Those stores usually have much cheaper prices and a friendlier atmosphere.
>>1065098 Actually thinking of Hungerford, we might not go as that's crossing the entire Berkshire county, farthest out of any of mine or even your suggestions. I need to check train prices for all suggestions, they take me by surprise (we don't have them in my country)
Hey travelers. Thinking about RVing in Utah. What are some things I should look out for when renting RV? Anyone have any experince with RVing or renting RVs?
I went to Moab, Utah three years ago. I stayed at a hotel on the main road there, and had a great time. Want to go again, but instead want to go from drive the RV park to park and well, park the rv, and enjoy the park.
Hey guys, I intend to go do Chinese New year in Chinatown. How to do it right? There appears to be two festivals, a firecracker and cultural festival on Feb 8th and a parade on Feb 14th.
Has anybody ever gone to one of their festivals? Is one better than the other? Advice for a first timer? Travel advice, vendor advice, anything you can offer. I'm not Chinese but can speak a little. Will there be restaurants open? Best spots to visit? I intend to travel from eastern Pennsylvania.
Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out whether im gonna visit London or not. I don't really have a good reason other than the fact that I haven't been there yet. If I go i'll probably only stay a few days there so i'm not really sure if its worth it.
London for 4 nights, mostly because I'm bored. yay or nay?
I have a decent career but I want to take a 9 week break to teach english in china and get it out of my system (my company will allow this long max.). I am prepared to volunteer but it seems that these programs are either restricted to summers or in crappy locations with accommodation that isn't good for a bachelor like home stay or need to pay for bad home cooked meals etc.
Should I just get a normal one year contract and then break it after 9 weeks I'm ready via midnight run or something ? What are the consequences of this ? Could I be blacklisted... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I should also add the reason I wouldn't want to do a summer is that they normally involve being isolated in a camp or teaching weekends and nights......also I want to have the "real experience" of teaching in a classroom and not tutor some kids after class
>>1064986 I stayed there once, for one night, many years ago. The deal with it is that it is cheap and in central Manhattan--close, among other things, to the Port Authority bus terminal, which probably increases the scumbag quotient. It stays cheap by offering a large number of very small rooms in a mostly unrenovated 80-year-old structure, together with negligible housekeeping or other services.
There are actually a couple of other similarly awful sleep mills in Midtown, but thanks to word of mouth and the Internet,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1065247 I'm not sure. Periodic, cyclical population boom? Import of superbedbugs from abroad? Global warming? But I know that I only started to hear horror stories over the last 10 years or so. I was staying in seriously subpar accommodations in NYC 20+ years ago and that wasn't one of their problems. Roaches yes, but not bedbugs.
I got a job recently and I'm going to have to move. They have many offices and are letting me have a top / bottom 3. They can guarantee I won't have any of my bottom 3, but my top 3 are merely hopefuls. However I really don't know much about these places that I have options for. Maybe I can get some insight from this pace. Here are the locations I have options for:
Anchorage, Alaska Little Rock, Arkansas Sacramento, California Atlanta, Georgia Springfield, Illinois Boston, Massachusetts Detroit, Michigan St. Paul, Minnesota Santa... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Top 3 would be difficult but I can give you some you absolutely should not probably take (then again I don't know your interests so I'm taking a shot in the dark) >Madison, WI Wisconsin in general is just hell >Charleston, WV I actually kinda like WV in a weird way but it is also hell on earth too. >Nashville, TN Just a shit city IMO, really gritty. >Olympia,WA Unless you really want to be close to Seattle, most parts in WA... >>1064984 You should give us some more info about you. Things like what climate you prefer; what hobbies you have, whether you're into nightlife or professional sports, or hunting moose... What sort of scenery or activities you're into as the life in Boston, Atlanta and St Paul is going to be much different from life in the smaller towns.
>Wisconsin in general is just hell Funny you say that, my buddy who did an internship there said the same thing.
>I actually kinda like WV in a weird way but it is also hell on earth too. >Just a shit city IMO, really gritty. >I would consider SC if it was Charleston, I really like that city, otherwise as a former North Carolinian I can tell you SC sucks

I wish it was more rugged here in USA so taking a SUV or Truck was more practical doing a roadtrip around the states. I hate how a boring Honda civic is the single best option for this goal. I wanted to get car stickers from every state I visited ,but I think it would look lame on a civic compared to like a landrover
Hey /trv/ luckily I might have the chance to spend the summer with true Navajo natives. My father is a member of the tribe, so I think they'll be accepting of me. Is there anything I need to know about the deserts of Arizona/ weather/ equipment I'd need to work and explore at the same time/ Mexican drug trafficking in the Texan/Mexico region. Also, if they accept me as a member of the tribe, I might be able to live with them as my father had the chance to live among them after he became member. Thanks for the replies in advance if I forget about this post.

Eastern Tennessee. Epic mountain scenery, plus tons of touristy stuff to do (Dollywood has grown in recent years and has several huge roller coasters now), and it's cheaper than other vacation destinations, so you'll live like kings.
