>tfw not even a single lesbian in DB franshise.
Also Dragon Ball Yuri Thread.
this and also Whis... i hope the female version is also gay.
you're not the only one, and i am not even talking just about myself. For some reason this particular pic became famous
considering there are only like 5 female characters and 20 or so male ones, i would say a lesbian wouldn't really fit in, especially considering the genre has nothing to do with romance
>especially considering the genre has nothing to do with romance
In an ideal world that wouldn't matter, though. You don't need a show to be about a lesbian relationship for it to have lesbians in it, just like you don't need DBZ to be about Goku and Chichi's relationship.
We even have actual examples of anime like that (Mouretsu Pirates and Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere), which is pretty nice.
The real reason has to do with the age of the franchise and the intended demographic.
many shonen series have lesbian characters, so the demographic has nothing to do with it. The beginning of dragonball may look childish at first glance, but its intended for young teenagers just like how bleach is or any other shonen. Heck, toriyama constantly made dirty sexual jokes, thus a lesbian wouldn't be any different(in japan that is)
>In an ideal world that wouldn't matter, though
i love lesbian as much as the next /u/ser, but a world where lesbians are the norm will never happen, such a world wouldn't be ideal as it would be in contrast to our drive for procreation
I don't think the demographic alone matters, but it's a contributing factor, alongside how old the show is. Modern shounen are more likely to throw in something for the yuri audience.
>i love lesbian as much as the next /u/ser, but a world where lesbians are the norm will never happen
Yes, but that's not the world I was referring to. Lesbians don't have to be the norm to be present in shows that don't have a romantic focus. Sexuality would be just another facet of a character.
Look at how Bulma and Vegeta ended up married in DBZ, for example. We never saw how it happened, it just did. The plot didn't bother with all that, and that was fine. In the ideal world I'm referring to you'd have female characters do the same, or even just hit on other women in the show some times.
what i was saying was that, such a world will never happen and it would make a fictional world just unrealistic, thus ruining the reading experience. If there are a lot of girls, then sure, one of them might "just happen to be" lesbian, or if the focus is on romance then a lesbian among a little cast would make sense, as this specific situation was meant to be the focus of the story. But if there are only a handful of girls among dozen of guys, then adding a lesbian would simply destroy the illusion.
A quick google search brings up 2.4% of women in the US identify as gay or bi, meaning only 1 in 40 women would date another girl. Even if we were to increase it, it wouldn't warrant a lesbian in the story of dbz, not even as a background character.
>Modern shounen are more likely to throw in something for the yuri audience.
More like shounen add blatant pandering to male otakus because anime lost its mainstream appeal. DBZ used to air on primetime but Super airs on sunday mornings. Even Toriyama's dirty jokes didn't look like pandering, he didn't include it by cinically calculating how much it'd appeal to the 18-35 adult male demographic but because he's a pervy and he genuinely like dirty jokes
>But if there are only a handful of girls among dozen of guys, then adding a lesbian would simply destroy the illusion.
And having guys who can scream and power up through space genes is realistic? I just love guys like you who accept magical dragons, green dudes who spit out eggs, laser beams from mouth and eyes, ugly space faggots with multiple transformations, but get all "muh realism" at some lesbians.
>A quick google search brings up 2.4% of women in the US identify as gay or bi
Quick google search... ever thought that most of those women do not openly even admit who they are and what they desire? Many not even knowing what they want because they have been brainwashed by their society? I have read several studies and human sexuality is lot more fluid than that. Something you obviously haven't yet understood. A lot of humans would have tendencies to be bisexual if not for social pressure. So don't come to tell me about realism.
>ALL MY KEKS.
why do you think most stories involve humans? Because we can relate to them. Just because its a fictional world doesn't mean that everything goes.
>And having guys who can scream and power up through space genes is realistic?
Yes, because that is the scenario presented in this fictional world. Normally in fiction it's expected of the reader to understand "Everything is normal EXCEPT for X". If suddenly there were other things that are not explained to be different but still appear, like lesbians in a scenario where it would be very unlikely for them to appear, then it just wouldn't make any sense. It's not a difficult to understand concept, considering EVERY person deals with this as EVERY fictional stories handles it this way, whether we talk about high fantasy or slice of life stories.
>Quick google search... ever thought that most of those women do not openly even admit
if you were to give a crap, you would have read further what i wrote, as i said "Even if we were to increase it"
but of course you don't care about actually talking about this topic, you just want to force your own desires onto other people.
>So don't come to tell me about realism.
Oh i do, because you clearly live in a delusional fictional word of your own
If there is anyone i have to talk about realism to, it's you
Vados is literally the strongest being in the entire continuity at the moment, so, girl power? Maybe she'll be a lesbian too, who knows.
>Vados is literally the strongest being in the entire continuity at the moment, so, girl power? Maybe she'll be a lesbian too, who knows.
Don't get my hopes up, my poor heart can't take it.
Unlikely women are shit in Dragonball and the BL community like to keep it that way otherwise less screen time for their Goku and Vegeta ships. I can safetly say DB for canon yuri potential is a ship that won't sail.
