Shovel Knight just came out, any of you niggas playin it?
My download is almost finished, I'm currently reading this link mentioned on the update.
pic semi-related, dunno if a pirate enemy exists in Shovel Knight
I thought I picked to get the PC version but apparently I picked the 3DS version.
Anyone know if the 3DS version is inferior in any way?
Ya I'm guessing that's why I picked 3DS version all those months back. Also I love the 3D 'gimmick'. I seriously think it's the future of technology. Not like the popping out of the screen movie theater 3D, but the subtle depth shit that the 3DS has.
thats very nice to know.
Don't care about streetpass shit or whatever. Im more wondering if theres gameplay or graphical or frame rate differences, but it seems there is none known right now.
anyways I just finished DLing it. I'll report back in a bit I guess.
ok so the 3D in this game is awesome. also it seems like the 2nd screen on the 3DS will be fairly useful.
Seems to me the 3DS is the definite version. Plus its just much more cozy playing this on a handheld with the 3DSs god tier buttons.
>24fps on Wii U and 60fps on Wii U
Care to repeat that?
It doesn't come out until tomorr-
Holy shit thanks OP, gonna go download this and play for a bit before work.
I really want to pirate it just to play it early. I'm still going to buy it.
Now my PC is filled with sixty niggers.
No but seriously, it's legit. Thank you
Alright I beat the first level on 3DS.
I will say the definitive version is the 3DS version. The 3D is really well done, and this kind of game is just extremely more cozy on a handheld.
Pirate the PC version to see if this is your cup of tea (if it isn't then you are an uncultured swine), and then buy the 3DS version (since 3DS piracy ranges from impossible to extremely difficult). Trust me, the 3D and comfyness of the 3DS version makes it worth it.
does anyone knows what the blinking sheets of music in the world map mean? is it that i have collected all sheets on that stage or is it that i'm missing some? i'm a completionist and it's making me crazy that the first stage is still blinking
I don't know if I should get the 3DS version or Wii U version.
How was I being a moral fag? Since this is a DL only title, I would imagine it's literally impossible to pirate the 3DS version. Hell, it's a pain in the ass to even pirate physical 3DS games (need a seperate flash cart for each game, need to be on an ancient firmware, etc).
Good thing I have manlet hands. You must have big meaty claws due to eating too many hotpockets. 3DS was made with child hands in mind.
Also there is nothing more cozy than laying on a bed or couch and playing vidya. Much better than sitting in a chair upright.
Normally I'm a moralfag (partly because Im not a child like 90% of /v/ and therefore can afford video games), but since Yacht Club games already made a lot of bank from the kick starter, I don't think people should be too upset if people decide to pirate.
That said you should still totally buy the game. It's great.
playing right now, god damn this game is smooth
gonna buy even tho i pirated to support devs
watching dolphin porn as we speak. It's legit.
Wasn't a Shovel Knight dev here just yesterday saying he doesn't give a shit if its pirated?
>tfw when I only have a cheap 3rd party 360 controller
h-have fun with the game guys
I really need to get a playstation controller or a wii u pro adapter
press 1 if you got recked by the bubble spewing Dragon
I tend not to suck so much usually, but If I jumped onto them I'd hit the ones above and if I avouided them he'd shoot before I could do anything...
It has StreetPass, not SpotPass.
SpotPass is stuff sent to you by Nintendo or the publishers to you. StreetPass is content that happens when you exchange data with other nearby users.
In 3DS Shovel Knight, you can record yourself and fight against people you have StreetPassed recorded Knights.
Which one are you getting /v/?
[ STEAM ]
[ 3DS ]
[ Wii U ]
>Local couch Battle Mode (In a future update)
>Diggers Diary (Miiverse implementation)
Can someone fill me in on how much time I can see sinking into this thing? I bought Luigi's Mansion on the behest of /v/, and lo and behold it was like 20 hours of easy playtime.
I want to believe /v/, I want to love my 3ds again. Maybe I should buy Kid Icarus?
>people distribute 118 mb viruses
>not trusting your friendly neighborhood /v/ thread
C'mon, the dolphin porn isn't gonna watch itself.
Can't pirate the 3DS version because it's digital only. Even if there was a physical release, you would have to buy a $50 flash cart to pirate it and be on an ancient firmware. Also only 1 game per flash cart.
Everyone keeps saying conflicting things!
How do I know that the virus doesn't give the linker full control of my PC so he can post "proof" it's legit!?
HOW DO IT KNOW THEY WONT TRACK ME
AND WHY WAS THE LINK TAKEN DOWN IF IT'S LEGIT
>being surprised that /v/ doesnt play good games
are you fucking serious? 6-7 hours?! How the fuck is that worth 15 bucks?
Jesus, you know out of everything in this fucking world I thought retro 2d games MIGHT be a bit longer and more difficult, because, ya know, they're skipping all the story/graphics/yadda yadda of other games.
This is severe disappointment.
Posting links to pirated content is technically a no no in 4chan rules. The mods just took down his post and maybe gave him like, a 1 day ban at most for it.
Actually I doubt he was even banned at all, probably given a warning and thats it.
I have every other damn 3ds game that /v/ suggests, I even shoveled out the money for Dream Team, which after playing Bravely Default felt like fucking Youngster's 1st RPG.
I've just read so many conflicting reports of Kid Icarus and it's handling that I don't want to get a game unless I'm sure I can sink a ton of time into it, or it'll be fun as hell
>/v/ suddenly likes retro pixel indie platformers
how is $15 not worth 6-7 hours? Are you expecting hundreds of hours from $15?
Also you posted a picture of Kingdom Hearts. Thats a 30 hour game and cost $50 brand new. Thats $1.67 an hour.
Meanwhile Shovel Knight, assuming $15 and 6 hours, is $2.5 an hour.
...a fucking game? Not half a game, but a game, you know, at least fucking 20+ hours to invest.
Seriously, the day I shovel (hur hur pun) out $15 bucks for 6 hours of fucking entertainment is the day I die.
Jesus /v/, I thought you had standards
I don't got a Wii U yet and Playing on the PC isn't really my thing. Besides, Archivements? Cards?
Fuck that, I'm getting that play on the go and spotpass on my 3ds.
Besides, I don't got stream. I don't know why should I get it anyway.
well shit, goodbye 7 year old laptop
you won't be missed
I hope you guys turned off your internet before starting the game up, because if you check yyou can see that the game uploads like 2mb when it first startsup everytime. enjoy your bit coin mining faggots
Chill out dude, nobody that was gonna buy it is gonna pirate it and not buy it, and the ones that weren't are at least gonna enjoy a decent game, haven't even beaten the first level and I know I'm gonna buy it on steam
>$1.67 an hour for kingdom hearts
>$2.50 for SK
>How is $2.50 less than $1.67?
This isn't about the fucking math and dividng cash by hours played. I don't care if I pay 5 dollars for a game and only get 2 hours.
If I purchase a game and want to have fun with it, what the fuck is the point of 6-7 hours? I could beat that shit in a fucking night.
Apparently I'm the only one who thinks this is a joke. Like really, this isn't about the price for me, though $15 is half the cash of a legit game. The point is that is pitifully low amount of hours to invest in a game that is THIS HYPED.
I thought 2d retro games were supposed to be like SNES games. When the fuck is the last time you beat a brand new SNES game? You know, back when they made games hard as fuck and whatnot so you played it more.
Fucks sake /v/
Jesus Christ kid, I know its summer but you need more school
>I..i..was just pretending to be retarded
I'm buying shovel knight because it seems to be a fun game I can play for 15 hours or more.
This is what happens when you just beat the game.
What about 100% complete it? what about challenge runs? What about speedruns?
The game JUST came out.
>are you fucking serious? 6-7 hours?! How the fuck is that worth 15 bucks?
You never playing a side scroller ever. Besides Castlevania and Metroid games which is a bit of a miniority. 2D side scrollers mostly lasted 1 or 2 hours. If Shovel Knight is 6 to 7 hours. It is greatly longer than most of them. And is significantly cheaper at launch to boot.
It's pretty good. I mean, it IS a Sakurai game. The only people who say the controls are bad are literally retarded. I'm fucking left handed and I learned how to play with the stylus in the right hand and beat the game. Trust your fellow anon.
>Pay $12 to go see a movie that lasts two hours at most.
>Pay $15 to buy a game that lasts 6-7 hours on a first playthrough, and likely much longer to totally 100%.
how fast do you think you'd have to throw a bottle at that distance, to make it break on impact with a human torso
Your logic here is that people are only going to get 6-7 hours out if it. Like I said, 6-7 hours only gets you to the end of the main campaign. There's still NG+, replaying to find other secrets, challenges, future updates, etc.
6-7 hours is only a problem if you just pump and dump it.
Get out of your diaper and go play some SNES games. I think you'll find that MOST games are an easy 15+ hours, and that's being nice. Especially side scrollers, I mean to be fair it's because they're ridic hard compared to today's games, but still.
I seriously can't believe you're trying to tell me you could beat a retro side scroller in 2 hours. Just shut the fuck up.
I'm not backpedaling, I'm saying I don't give a flying fuck if someone says "OMG selling $5 game you get 2 hours of playtime OMG!"
If you really think an awesome gaming experience in a fucking Retro 2d game, games that usually attract people looking for a challenge, can be achieved by beating the game in a measly 5 hours, you are retarded.
Seriously, what the fuck happened here? What the hell do you ppl do all day if you're beating these 5 hour games left and right? God forbid I want some bang for my buck.
i get his gripe. he wants more bang for his buck
like his mom
but the modern video game industry is so shit that ALL games are now around 5 or 6 hours long. its bad, but he should be used to it by now
>but the modern video game industry is so shit that ALL games are now around 5 or 6 hours long
And in those instances I usually see /v/ say that said games should have been priced $15-20 instead of $50-60. So now that a game is being priced more reasonably for its amount of content, what is the problem?
How much +NG is there? I mean with a game like Dark Souls or Chrono Trigger you can spend hours upon hours playing the game again and get different results.
I'm really just..wow, idk. I've been pretty hyped about all this 2d retro gaming movement and to see a game I was excited for only clock 5+ hours is just so sad. Sounds like it should've came out for my fucking Iphone instead.
I just beat the first stage, pretty fun game so far, simple yet entertaining, I just hope they are more playable characters
>devs actually spent the time and money to emulate the NES style rather than LEL PIXELS XD
It's like when the Retro City Rampage guys got the game actually running on a NES cart, fucking amazing.
I've been playing video games since you were a fetus, kid dough. SNES games were NOT that hard for certain reasons. One is that most of them had saves or passwords. Two, is that the actual fall off of difficulty side scrollers was during arcade death and the NES losing value in which people made less games for it.
Only in YOUR nostalgia of being 5 and playing Skyblazer made YOU find them hard. Play them now and you could clear them in a day. I guarentee it. Most of these "hard" SNES games were in a minority. And your trying to insist that DIFFICULTY was actual content and length. Which is fucking stupid. On top of the implication that redoing levels because of your own personal failures extended game length.
On top of all this. You don't even give Shovel Knight a try yourself to see how hard it is.
>priced $15-20 instead of $50-60
friend, those 5 hour games are all 60 bucks. what world are you living in where all games arent short as hell. the only games that MIGHT go over 6 hours are rpgs and sometimes adventure games
Good goy, hollywood is actual adult serious business, sponsored by politicians and everything.
Don't waste your money on manchild videogames that don't cooperate with the government.
So when does it actually get released for steam?
The normal acceleration of the fist is [5m/s - (-5m/s)]/(1.20*10^-4) = 83,333m/s^2 upwards, let say that a the bottle has a weight of 16 oz.
16 oz = 1 lb = .45 kilos
.45 x 9.81 = 4.4145 (the mass of the bottle)
Assuming the distance between the person throwing and person being hit is 1 metre.
Full beer bottles break at about 28 f/s.
So about 4.666* Gs
>shovel knight is 1.2gb see: >>250223618
>link in thread is 110mb
yes, we got it for free
What the fuck are you talking about? Beating a SNES game in a day? I challenge you to find a competant /v/irgin who hasn't played:
Link to the Past
Or a host of any other SNES games and see them beat it in under 5 hours. Unless they've seen someone play it or have played it themselves, there's no fucking way.
What the hell are you smoking that difficulty ISN'T content and length? Ofc it's how much is in the game and how difficult it is to beat + the time it takes. I don't care if you want to QQ that lives are
artificialdifficulty, but it's just plain wrong.
And seriously, give it a try? It's a one time purchase you fuck, it's not like I can try it for a bit and be like "hrm, no thanks." This is why I come here, to hear what /v/irgins have to say about the game. And my 1. rule is if someone tells me I can sink an amazing 5+ hours into a game than I'm probably not going to buy it.
You are a knight who uses a shovel as a weapon.
Your knight waifu has been kidnapped by other knights and a sorceress.
You gonna wreck everyone's shit and get fucking bank in the process.
Pirated it, I'll get it when it releases tomorrow
Game is tons of fun, really enjoying it
this is probably the only '2d retro indie platformer' that actually feels like I'm playing an SNES/GBA/NES platformer with some modern design conveniences
I am very pleased with this
>Paying for the Ouya
Why did you think it was a good idea
The enchantress and the ORDER OF NO QUARTER have kidnapped the world your waifu (most likely)
go rescue the world and your waifu(probably)
PS your waifu looks like this
>implying you need anything more in videogame beyond mindless destruction, pussy, and a shitload of dosh
if you're a kid, sure.
as an adult i want something i can get more lost in, not just mindless sidescrolling and button mashing. i need some kind of purpose for doing what i'm doing in the game other wise it loses all meaning.
>Link to the Past
Boy, getting so desperate that you now you have to make comparisons to NON side scrollers that aren't even that challenging. Yes, they have content. BUT THEY ARE NOT SIDESCROLLERS or ARE EVEN REMOTELY CHALLENGING. Contra 3 is a fucking exceptions in a see of how many easy games? Shovel Knight is also harder than SM.
It plays like a great megaman game, take that as you will
>its really good, check the kikestarter
>311k out of 75k goal
>"wow it must be ported on literally every devise known to man"
>nah just wiiu and 3ds
Ok 3ds I understand being a priority but Wii U? And thats it? I mean a large chunk of the money went to a fucking genderswap mode but they couldn't port it to anything else?
Its a perfect handheld game
3ds version obviously has 3d feature, but what would make it into a shitty vita game?
I'd prefer it greatly if I could play it on my vita right now rather than kb/m
>putting all anime in downloads folder
>not designating an anime folder
>not making series subfolders
>not making season subfolders
i'm pretty sure you can play the game as some of the bosses, post normal playthrough. did they have different storylines/levels? i almost assume this, because these devs are fucking cool.
DID YOU CATCH HER?
>This fucking game so far
This is exactly what I was hoping for, down to the smallest detail. It doesn't feel like some basement dweller making his 'SUPER RETRO GAME.' This genuinely feels like a lost NES classic, and a damn good one. Even just the concept and the artwork in the manual feel so right.
If you pirate this, fuck you. This is exactly what you should encourage Kickstarter and indie game devs to be doing.
I'm really digging this so far. Haven't made any progress past the tutorial and just messing around in the town though but it's pretty damn good.
thank you for telling me lol. game's fookin rad.
shit that wasn't even intentional
also should I be playing this with my PS3 controller? I'm just playing it with keyboard (which personally I always default into Cave Story controls for 2D stuff like this) and it's fine but I'm just making sure.
hopefully this thread doesn't 404 before dump
You fucking dense nigger
Contra and Super Metroid can be beaten in a day easily under 7 or 8 hours.
Alright you were like 5 when they came out and your parents bought them for you, DO YOU KNOW WHAT FUCKING PRICE THOSE GAMES HAD?
It was way more than 60$ per game nigger
>Link to the Past
r u srs m8?
King Knight was an absolute pushover
Spectre Knight was a decent enough challenge, though most of it was me being stupid
loving the game so far, the music, the secrets, the dialog, the gameplay, the level design, it's all just good
fuck that. I'm too lazy to do all of that.
I'll re-dump in the next thread if someone makes one after this one gets done
Finished the first 3 stages, this is so fun, well worth the 10 bucks I spent a million years ago to back it.
Feels good to finally have a retro looking game that actually looks like something from the era in every way.
No, it works fine with a 360 controller. It just a really shitty dpad. I'm actually playing fine with the analog stick though
i'll get it eventually, it looks fun
tfw shit like Shovel Knight and 1001 Spikes look more fun and creative than most new games coming out
>dat town dialogue
it's like I'm playing a NES game, it's glorious, somebody should point to this as what your NPCs should be like on games, jovial, charming, no unsubtle forced humor/memes, informative with respect to gameplay
We did it /v/
Hope someone was else was savings these.
Dude the link's been posted several times on the thread,if you plan to buy (or even if you don't) it then there's no reason not to get it now, maybe the thread is whole in some archive if the links have been deleted
I downloaded it, haven't installed it yet but it seems fairly legit. Looked through the files, doesn't look like it's been modified in any way. Only concern I have is that the file isn't digitally signed by the developer, but that's fairly common for indie DRM free releases.
The thing that amuses me is that I lived through the NES era. The handful of games for the platform that were good, weren't good due to their low-fi sound effects or their middling sprites; they were good despite it. Copying the worst aspects of an NES game doesn't make your game good, anymore than it did the enormous catalog of shovelware for the platform.
I only pirated it to play it early since I'm off. Will buy on 3DS tomorrow.
Does this work?
And here's another one in game.
>95% NES accurate
>combination of mega man, zelda 2, castlevania
>used the Konami sound expension board for the OST
Oh my god. It's the NES game of my Dreams. I wish it had a physical release.
Holy fuck this game is awsome so far.
I am having the fight with the black knight, i havent had so much for with vidya this year but this takes the cake.
The music, the art style and the fucking gameplay, is like duck tales and other game i dont renember.
Also dem secrets are fun to find
I will buy this shit later on that is for sure
