>Excellent remake of an old PS1 game that updates the rather clunky combat with some of the best in the series. >No localization. >Region locked even if you know Japanese. >Fan translator is a lazy fucker that will likely take at least a decade to finish it if his past work is an indication.
>>250368150 Think it's a PS2 compilation or remake of the Super Robot Taisen OG games the GBA had.
>>250369205 That at least has a fan translation patch and script in the works, though when they'll actually be done is up for debate. And the PS3 is region free as well, meaning you can import and play it easily, unlike stuff like >>250368701.
Not that it isn't completely retarded that they didn't bring the game over on a system fans of JRPGs are more prone to have.
>>250369793 Never seen the show. All i know is that Goichi Suda directed it and that's good enough for me. Also i feel the same way about everyone of his games that never made it stateside. Sad tears anon, every night.
>>250370475 From what I've heard rumor of, that Aaron's Bar of Magic meter pertains to some anti-piracy thing they're trying to get working with the patch that will require the person using it to have an actual copy of the game or something.
I'm just going to have to make do with the script when it comes out since my PS3 can't have fan patches applied to it, since it's a bit of a newer model. And it's not like it's all that hard to understand from a gameplay perspective. I don't even know Japanese and still had fun with it. Also all that bonus content they through it.
>>250370176 We almost got the Alpha games, and Namco even got all the licensing stuff from everyone except for Harmony Gold who shut the whole thing down because of the whole Macross=Robotech bullshit.
W also seemed like such a good opportunity because every series in it was localized and dubbed, but it likely got tripped up by having GoLion/Voltron, a series that ironically appeals to the West far more than it does Japan.
>English translation finished. >No one there seems to know how to make the actual patch to implement it. Is the GBA hard to code a translation patch for in comparison to, say, the SNES or Playstation, or something?
>>250371214 Wow, so one company deciding to be an asswipe about licensing can ruin an entire game's shot at localization. I guess I can see why they've chosen to stick with the OG ones as far as actual localizations go.
>>250372330 Did the original Endless Frontier sell like shit out here, or was that released too late in the DS' life for Atlus to be inclined to localize it (similar to Swordcraft Story 3 and the GBA)?
>>250372701 It sold OKAY for a niche game but I remember a year later the 3DS would be coming out and that would be roughly the time the game would be localized so they probably just said "fuck it, not worth the time".
>>250373604 Any fan translation effort in the works for it? Also sucks that the prior game is pretty much just scalper bait these days; last I saw it was well over $100 for a complete copy, which is completely ridiculous for a DS game, especially one that isn't that old yet.
>>250371701 On one hand, that would've been the best time to start bringing the series over because that was the time robots were just starting to gain popularity with Gundam Wing and Big O and shit. But on the other hand, we were only slated to get the Dreamcast version. So who knows if the series would even be still around even if it did get localized like that. Also the Alpha games only added more and more series as they went so I imagine the complications of licensing would've only gotten more tense and we'd end up having constant delays on them.
In the end, what's done is done. At least we got the OG games on GBA. And there's a couple fan translations of some games.
>>250374262 I bought z3-1 for the ps3 and i will buy z3-2 even if i dont know japanese ive played so many of them that i know how to play. plus all the items, spirits, etc has translations online. One day once fucking ALPHA for the ps1 gets finished being edited we can move on and get other shit translated maybe, ill be 75 before the z series gets a translation though.
I haven't been keeping up with /m/ but has there been any pvs of z3 yet of any info? like if we are getting all the series back that left form z2? plus new series? or is it still too early?
>>250374213 Because Square-Enix seems to see no point in bothering with it out here anymore. Especially not when they can much more easily sell Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts in the west, while Dragon Quest would take a bit of effort to really cultivate out here given the previous lack of effort by both Enix and Square-Enix to really get it popular in the west in the past (though Nintendo did a good job with making IX sell decently).
Biggest issue is that they seem content to sweep the series under the rug out here, possibly in the hopes people forget they have other Japanese series besides Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. Probably helps them no "journalists" or whatever bother asking about it.
>>250375184 Im pretty fucking sure they could sell a fucking game like terry's wonderland fucking easy. it has fucking 600 monsters to catch. Also the 3ds has no fucking games they could of been giving us dragon quest games and people would buy them no matter what, didnt they fucking learn that from how well fire emblem sold? why are they so retarded?
>>250375176 Funny thing is I used to see Endless Frontier, along with Platinum's Infinite Space a whole lot a few years back. Then all availability just dried up and they became scalper bait.
Platinum even got angry at Sega over that, since as their publisher, Sega fucked over Infinite Space printsize-wise in the west, and even when it sold out, they didn't bother with printing more. >Be looking into Infinite Space a while back. >Cart only copies for $50+ >People selling the manual and case/cover separately, for another $50.
>>250375446 Whats this about? >>250375184 no they are fucking lazy as fuck, the 3ds needs games any decent game like dragon quest would sell decent enough for the work it takes to bring over. they are just fucking lazy.
>>250375645 Seen speculation they don't want Dragon Quest competing with Final Fantasy out here, even if they'd be making money either way. Even Nintendo has been offering to handle everything out here but the actual translation for the games, but Square-Enix staunchly refuses to budge.
>>250376121 Gameplay-wise, not all the great, but the story, characters, and customization are quite nice if you stick with it, or so I've heard. I still need to play it myself, but it's pretty hard to find, both locally, and at a reasonable price. And even then, chances are it's just going to be cart only since Gamestop took the time to toss their DS manuals and cases in the trash.
Since i cant play terry's wonderland 3ds, its joker 2 pro fan translated? how many monsters is in that? wonderland has 600, I think there is a wonderland 2 now that has even more. When do you get to the HUGE monsters in joker 2 pro?
>>250377876 A few notes for you, in case something goes wrong with the translation in the end, or you decide to start playing it before they finish: You can find translations for the artes and skills menu at Aselia wiki, while you can find the strategy menu translations elsewhere online. Kouli's sidequest guide is quite useful, as it contains not only sidequests, but information on where to go next for PS3 exclusive parts of the main plot that might stump even people that played the 360 version first. The bag automatically organizes your items, and each item has an image with it, which can make it generally easy to know what it is if it's a standard series item such as a bottle or gel. Important terms in dialogue are colored green, at least the first time they show up. Lastly, the world map operates off a "Town title, Town Name" style, so if you're told to go somewhere, look for the second part of the name on the world map if lost (the world map, item book, and monster book are all easily cross reference-able as well).
In all it's pretty easy to actually play if you are either in it mostly for the gameplay, or already know the story/characters from the 360 original. Still, you might consider borrowing a 360 or something and playing that version first.
Did you guys know there's a series called Shining?
It's true! It shocked me as well, I know, because I haven't seen a Shining game in English since the end of the PS2 era and it's been infinitely longer since the last good Shining game, but they're a thing. As are a bunch of other niche Sega franchises you've never heard of!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmRT6MwJfJ8 If only Gihren Greed mixed with total war mixed with fire emblem would happen. it would be amazing. the Gihren Greed games are greatly limited by the consoles they are on and would be prefect for pc.
>>250384024 Ar no surge is getting localized, and that game sold like shit in Japan. But Tecmo Koei, NISA are bros... Sega on the other hand... what are the chances that someone like XSeed could publish it?
>>250383452 You see this is why the Japanese are great, they do what the fucking want. they will never be held down by some mentally challenged small group. first of all the women in japan CANT complain because they are no better then the men. they play gay porn games all day and get a ton of anime foucesd on them so you see besides japans culture of not being retarded with fucking FICTION, the girls get their shit too. even if they didn't the women in japan wouldn't complain about anything because they aren't brainwashed to think drawn or fiction affects anything, because it fucking doesn't, if anything it helps depressed men and women get on with their lives. I just wish one day the sjw's will all fucking die or shift their annoyance to something that is hurting REAL women, like the fucking fashion industry.
>>250383171 Shinning force was fucking huge for sega. I always will remember that elf girl when booting up Shinning force 2. Sadly we never got Shinning force 3 and we got utter shit for the ps2. it was the main rival to fire emblem.
>>250383749 I liked it, still have the copy on my shelf. Got to end boss and just got row stumped because I didn't lv enough. Gave up and just looked at the ending on youtube it was sort of unsatisfying. Like how megaman games end and when ever you start on that save it's still before you defeat the endboss.
The characters were all great in my opinion and the romance was a bit E7 like which is all good.
>>250384721 Because they themselves don't really market it when they have chosen to localize them, while these days Final Fantasy tends to sell itself. Plus, getting them to sell well would require some actual effort on their end since it's not as well known, or have them have to have someone else handle the marketing, like Nintendo, something they don't seem keen on even after DQ IX sold quite well compared to other titles in the series.
And even if they did localize it, they could still just shortprint it and then bitch about poor sales like they have for some of them, like V DS.
>>250386967 Tales of the Abyss at least saw a 3DS port out there in the end (and admittedly whether it's better than the PS2 version is for debate; I personally like the PS2 one for the multiplayer co-op).
As for Xenosaga, the third game is pretty expensive these days in the US, so while it's sad it didn't make it over at least you're not paying $45-70 for it used (I got lucky and found one for $13 a while back). And I think some at Namco recently said that if possible, they'd like to make an HD collection for it eventually, though there's still things for them to consider as far as it goes, whether it's feasible or not given that Monolith Soft isn't affiliated with them anymore.
>>250387920 >Sega localizes artbook for VC3. >Doesn't even bother localizing the game it's from. Something about that just seems baffling to me. I mean, while it's nice they did bring the artbook over, aren't most people more inclined to buy them for games they've actually played, with characters they actually recognize?
>>250388432 When even Namco starts to wise up and make an effort to both localize and market new games for the west, like the recent Tales ones, and companies like Sega, Konami, and Square-Enix are still floundering, or start ignoring their franchises, be it in terms of localization, or outright bothering to make ANY new games for them, something's gone wrong.
>>250388926 Maybe ask the people that translated DQ V PS2, or Shadow Tower Abyss if they have any recommendations for what to use to do so? There haven't been a whole lot of PS2 translation patches just yet sadly.
>I translated a PSX game btw An actually released fan translation, or just a personal test to see if you could? And if the former, which one? Just curious about that.
Surprisingly, there were people (like me) who actually LIKED the Lost Planet series and the strangeness each game brought to the table. But nope, it wasn't a translation or niche market problem, they hardcoded the text into the game and couldn't be assed to rework it for us. Game looked fun too :(
>>250367696 >Summon Nights X >Summon Nights 4 >Summon Nights 5 >A shit load of Dragon Quest games on the 3ds >Assloads of SRW games across multiple platforms >Many Shining Force games >Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode >That new digimon game which you know they aren't gonna being that one over either >Half Minute Hero 2 >Bunny Black Series (A new eroge trilogy that plays like the Rance series, has 3 games so far) >7th Dragon, 7th Dragon 2020, 7th Dragon 2020 2 >Soma Bringer >Unchain Blades EXXIV
And the list just goes on and on. You can blame alot of this stuff on sega or squareenix though
>>250389789 It is basically a carbon copy of AA but more dumbed down Battles are extremely boring since early on since you pick from 2-3 choices, only one choice is correct and everything else end in game over. Later on battles they let you have free control over unit advance war style, but that is just an illusion since in most scenarios if you don't put your unit into the couple correct space(+facing the right way) on the map, you get fucked over and its game over. Played this game years ago, can't even find gameplay on youtube
