Daily reminder that SRPGs are dead.
>Try to play Disgaea
The Ivalice games nailed setting and presentation.
Every time I want to fire up FFTA again, I remember that it takes like half an hour just to start the first mission.
Same shit goes with Tactics Ogre. Fuck games that force you to go through the stupid intro tutorial every fucking time.
Currently playing through WoTL for the first time. I want to avoid using FAQs... but anyone have any simple advice to get the most out of my playthrough?
Site and forums are dead. No update in months. No responses to direct emails and other communication in months.
It's probably dead. In any case, fuck PlayDek for the way they've behaved. Even if the project is somehow alive, it shows they're a shit company with no interesting in customer relations.
>mfw I have that poster hanging on the wall in my cottage house room
If you're talking about Wiegraf i plan to save often and build up Ramza as a Monk/Ninja... so whatever happens, I'll have a save far back enough that I can grind out the right abilities/class to fight him
>Daily reminder that SRPGs are dead.
Ha ha, you wish. SRPG's are now the property of Android and IOS. Filthy casuals are now cumming inside your favorite genre to the tune of $2 a micro-transaction.
>Seems like itd be so much better for this type of game.
Ehh, not really. The first Luminous Arc, a DS SRPG, had all inputs done on touchscreen and even though I enjoyed the game the controls felt awful to me.
>Daily reminder that SRPGs are dead.
Well, no shit. The only popular one left is FE, and we know where that is headed.
>inb4 butthurt posts
I'm not really upset, though. I still have the games I enjoyed in the past. And hacks that change things up, if I so wish.
>never played srpgs in the past
>recently discovered that I like them
>have the full library to go through
>but I know the ride ends at some point, and the more I play the closer that is
feels bittersweet, man.
Some situations in Tactics were just silly
>No FF Tactics port on android
>Twewy released 2 years later
Fuck, now I'm just waiting for a crack
I guess what's intriguing to me is that you would have to be more careful with how you position your units -- while spreading out and getting up close to the enemy would allow you a lot of attack points, you also become more vulnerable. I guess the difference between characters with low defense and high defense wouldn't be that one is easier to Knock-Out, but that having low defense means that getting hit will cause more damage to the total HP
but it's a system that would also reward risk, I'd think. I want to try making something like this but I would have to figure out balancing.
I guess the other question is if the enemy also has a shared health bar.
If both had a shared health bar, I can see the problem: people would never split up the army, because if your opponent surrounded your glass cannon/support characters, they could sit and gang rape them to drain the entire health bar pretty quickly.
>Finally get my op as shit team in tactic ogre.
>MFW nothing else to do aside from maximum grind for no reason.
Everyone seems to play RPGs backwards, selling weapons but hoarding potions. It took me until adulthood, but I now know to use my potions when needed and keep everything else just in case.
Why no more Tactics Ogre? 10/10 designs.
I want to lick Canopus
My literal waifu.
I always imagined her as cool and distant, always away from home to do mercenary work.
Great at cooking meals fit for a troop but it doesn't look pretty or taste all that amazing.
Very awkward in bed.
>You will never be this fabulous.
T dont think you're supposed to take the plots in Disgaea seriously anyways, and NISA's translatiion of the past disgaea games were pretty decent though. (havent played D2 yet so I dont know if they have gotten worse)
> All these posts
> Not a single goddamn one mentions the fact that Natural Doctrine is coming out in October in the US
Jeez and I thought the fact that it was being released by NISA was the worst thing going for it. Apparently their utter inability to advertise will be the game's undoing.
OG? Not for a while they have to finish up the Masou Kinshin series first, but f is coming out so expect it in 2-3 years, but remember it will be filled with all the DLC bullshit of Z3 and well... the Masou Kinshin series.
I just got to the final boss in Phantom Brave and learned just how wide my asshole can stretch.
That's what happens when you breeze through the game and end up at the final boss 20 levels lower than you should be.
How's the post-game content in Phantom Brave? Is Another Marona like the NG+ alternate stories in Disgaea?
>Every time I want to fire up FFTA again, I remember that it takes like half an hour just to start the first mission.
I started to play FFTA recently, emulated on PSP, and I had to go through the start like three times, as the emulator kept fucking up with my saves.
Thank god for speedup feature on emulators, tough.
All of the press around that game was about how broken and overly difficult/broken it was. The NISA localization is just a cherry on top of the shit sandwich.
They are supposed to be fixing a lot of the problems, but I think the damage is done and I don't trust NISA to make the game good.
I do love me some TO, but OB is superior.
Search your feelings, you know this to be true.
Should I get the PSP/Vita versions of the Disgaea games? Only ever played the PS2 version of 2 and I kinda want to get into this series.
March of the black queen was one of my favorite games, but I still preferred tactics. It was just so stressful and it felt like if you fucked up early on you couldn't complete the game.
Never played OB64 because no emulator would run it and I never owned a n64.
You always get the portable versions of Disgaea. ALWAYS. Since they come with all the DLC and features that can't be found in the console versions
Serious or not, the presentation and voice acting makes Disgaea impenetrable for me.
Does this make me shallow? Probably.
Can I skip all the dialogue? Sure, but then why bother?
I'm just holding out hope that It'll be a revision in line with some of the initial patch notes I've seen about it and not just an easy "Halve the enemy HP" release. I'm still hopeful because I've never been able to get into Disgaea and every day it seems that if I want more games I'd better learn Moon.
OG is Super Robot Wars: Original Generation. Primarily Japanese strategy game where you control various Giant robots to defeat evil. Please look it up or go on /m/. I'm just too tired to go into depth.
Most times I can agree with this. After all you have to spend the majority of the game listening to the characters talk and if you hate all the characters then why play? Gameplay is the primary focus but you still have to spend time with these characters.
I-I don't own a Wii either.
I never buy nintendo consoles, just the handhelds. I have a GBA, DS, 3DS, PSP, Vita, PS2 and PS3 along with a shitty 7 year old PC.
Nah I like to work things out as I go and I've played enough of these types of games to understand it
What are they? I'm picking up as many of the bags dropping off enemies as I can if thats what you mean
Battle #2 -- The Gates of Almorica [B02N1]

Emulators have been running OB64 for a long time. It's just the mission intro screens that are fucked up. They slow down to a crawl but they will still complete, it just takes time.
Are there any more SRPGs with evil routes like pic related?
>What are they? I'm picking up as many of the bags dropping off enemies as I can if thats what you mean
Almost every map has buried items in them, most aren't real important but can be useful. You can try walking onto suspicious looking squares and hoping to get a buried item otherwise you'd have to look them up in guides.
Probably shouldn't go out of your way to do it until you unlock some of the dungeons that have special items buried in them.
The "microcodes" are entire programs for the Nintendo 64's GPU, so there's potentially an unlimited number of them. It's hard to emulate for two reasons, one is that it's all essentially undocumented, so the emulator writers just don't know what all the individual microcode instructions are supposed to do. The second is that it's designed to be run on a GPU with specialized hardware, and emulated interpretation or recompilation of the microcode on the CPU, like is done for the main N64 CPU, would probably end up being way too slow. The only practical solution is to figure out what each microcode program is supposed to do and use the PC's GPU to do the equivilent operations.
Since most N64 games use one of two different microcode programs, ones who's behavior, if not implementation, was well documented by Nintendo, emulating the N64 GPU for these games is easy. The rest use custom microcode programs whose behavior was never doucmented, and since the documentation for the GPU is poor, it's very hard to reverse engineer what they were supposed do.
I've bought a ps3 not long ago and would like some kind anons to recommend sRPG games for it. I've already finished Valkyria and thinking about getting into Disgaea but not sure where to start.
Also, why are nobody talking about Kamidori? I thought that pretty much was the best sRPG for PC in like forever.
Hey OP why dont your try Langrisser 4 or Growlanser 4? Those are pretty good SRPGS
with waifus to boot
Devil Survivor series is good too.
>Remember Valkyrie Profile Hrist isnt a thing.
If only... Would have been perfect Lenneth PS1 Silmeria PS2 Hrist PS3 . It would have been amazing. Even if they made it it wouldnt be great considering Eniux is not what it use to be.
Magic works well on them.
What a faggot.
>Dem hard as fuck maps.
>Dat hidden content.
That game is so difficult but I love it.
Im taking a break from the "breaking the dam stalling" mission where all I can do is take hits from the calvary general of Gulcasa until Milanor and that assasin destroy the fucking dams.
It's the most bullshit mission
>Yeah i mean VP is probably the best Enix game out there so it had a chance to actually be good.
Yeah; Really all the Tri-Ace/Enix games were good. I guess Star Ocean was the straw the broke the camel's back.
I still remember the bullshit you have to go through to get Canopus and Deneb on your team in OB.
Also that red knight Ash in the Xenobia battle is a fucking demon.
Hardest fight was the special pre cursor to OB fight, the one with the army of dragons, that fight took me like 1 hour of non stop battling.
>Having Fun with SRPG
>Start to Grind subconsciously because you like the combat system
>Game turns out to be easier than expected
>No New Game Plus to set things right
I hate it when i enjoy things too much. The new Tactics Orge stopped this because enemies would scale but still Archers ruined everything which is why i never made archers personally on another note.
Speaking of, is anybody actually excited for Project Steam? I'm not all that hyped... gameplay during Treehouse didn't look that great.
That might have been the shitty player, though.
That whole level scaling caught me by surprise, did some of the side content and over leveled a bit and suddenly story enemies went from being level 15 with shit armor/weapons to level 25 with like dragonscale armors and top tier weapons. I couldn't even compete, I had to carefully do some of the easy maps first and take their equipment.
>hating on Lune
Sadly there's absolutely no gameplay video on youtube. Here have some on Niconico gameplay video.
Sadly the only video I could find were gameplay on New Game+ with maxed out levels.
Theres just something about lancing through two enemies and getting twice the exp. Or when you finish off an enemy with your weakest unit with 2 damage and get heaps of levels all at once. It's a really satisfying game mode
>Camelot is now Nintendo's Mario sports sweatshop
RIP Shining Force
Well that's sort of my point. Camelot obviously has a very talented team. The fact that they can turn what would normally be very basic sports games into great fun with some depth and strategy just goes to prove what potential they still have.
Nintendo could have picked a much worse developer for the Mario sports games, but of course these projects are keeping them from making truly great S/RPGs.
Except Golden Sun DS, fuck that game.
Tactics was great. So was Front Mission.
The handheld spin-offs sucked though.
How do I get the fourth sister? I managed to get 3 of them without fucking up/looking anything up. Maybe I'm just retarded or missed something but there wasn't any glaringly obvious way to recruit her in my first playthrough.
Sherri? You must not kill her at her fight and when she leaves go back to Balmamusa on a rainy day.
You must be on the Chaos route and have the three sisters.
>that canon AOE map
>we'll never see Blaze Union in english
Fuck. Time to rev up those kanji books.
>All this shitting on FE
>Not admitting FE:A was a decent game
You contrarian fags are just the worst
I might just have to go to the nearest anchor point and try again because I have the other three even though I don't really use them. They don't need to participate in the battle right?
>not using a psx emulator
>not getting FFT iso
>Not admitting FE:A was a decent game
/v/ fucking loved this game until the shitposters found out there was a "My Body Is Ready" reference in the DLC.
Then all of a sudden it was shameless meme-spouting Reddit pandering waifu easymode faggotry that ruined /v/'s secret club game.
STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM
YOU VIOLATED THE LAW
>d that the psp Tactics Ogre didn't seem to revive it.
Why would it? Square merely contracted Matsuno. He was already fired.
Tactics Ogre is dead. Final Fantasy Tactics is dead. Unsung Story seems to be dead, judging from dev activity.
Matsuno may as well not exist anymore.
Another Marona is more like the Etna Mode, Axel Mode, etc stuff from the PSP releases. It gives you most of the named characters from the main story.
It's paced weird though. If you do it first, it ramps up ridiculously and gets super hard. If you do it second you won't use any of the characters and Ash can handle the whole game.
It does count, but it's more like Final Fantasy Tactics x XCOM.
I have a boner for it despite not backing it
>Have fun getting REKT by all the phys repel demons late game.
Thats what pierce is for, seriously Physical build is retardedly good, granted you dont have more physical attackers in your group, otherwise you will lack the necesary skills for everyone.
>people who complain about the laws in FFTA
>Doublecast only works on red magic
>More assassin nerfs than FFTA2
Way to completely shit on Viera. I get that it's supposed to be harder but when you take away everything that makes an entire race good, then why even bother using them? It's like you're purposefully recreating problems certain races in FFTA already had, just in the other direction. This is the exact problem every 'rebalance' patch for every srpg ever has too.
Fucking ruining my bunnygirls.
>just have all your units aim at Mewt
How have I never fucking thought of this?
It's not PP and it's not a lie either.
>tfw no Final Fantasy Tactics A3DS
>all that's left is that tower defense game, and that mobile game that's just Tactics Ogre
The screenshots I found are small, here are some bigger ones. It looks kinda interesting though the art-style is a bit primal.
I really miss SRPG games. They're my favorite. I daydream all the time about this idea I have for one, but it's nothing huge or anything. Having said that though, I highly recommend Divinity. It's an SRPG, but isn't based on a square grid or anything, it's based on meter measurements. I'm loving it.
>implying FFT is dead
They just released a new one last year, but there was a mixup at the printing factory and for some reason they put Fire Emblem on the cover instead.
>tfw no iPad hi-res patch for the PSP/PSX version of Tactics.
Lineal pixel filtering looks like shit, like everything does.
What i don't get is whey the Summon Night games never came over.
Not even the DS ports, which I feel could have probably done decently well.
Need I remind you what they did to FF6 for the mobile releases?
I recommend reading the FAQ on Insane Difficulty if you do go with the hard mode patch and not the content patch which is just easy mode.
Wizards are beasts in chapter 1, but fall out near the end. And for the love of god get auto potion on Ramza. I've restarted the game multiple times not because it was impossible to finish but I wanted certain jobs for fights in chapter 2 and 3.
I learnt Python specifically for this reason (Yeah, I know, >Python but I'd never coded before) and am currently making one.
Would anyone get behind a Kickstarter for a really big independent SRPG, 'cause I don't have very good art skills and would want to hire an artist to go over my placeholder sprites. The game would be released regardless, it'd just look prettier.
They already did.
Stay buttdevistated VIfag
>daily reminder that SRPGs are dead
Just like any genre of anything, it's only dead when it gets done to death, 'til something brings it back.
Enjoy MOBA's, Survival-Horror, TPS's/FPS's, MMORPG's and JRPG's while they last, folks, 'cause they're the first ones out the door.
Well all things considered the people who did the port did a decent job. The biggest problem is that the screen wasn't filled for me, with two bars on the sides.
Final fantasy tactics has weird controls on iOS, it would be harder to port I think.
Good choice. but be warned that game can be fairly difficult, especially for new players.
But other than that it's highly rated.
Another thing to know, is that everything in the game is can be used as a weapon. From rocks to fish to even your dead party members bodies.
I think the two games are rather different, even if both are SRPGs.
FFT's maps have different levels of terrain. Archers for example can get higher up on the map to gain more range and damage. I can't think of any instances like this in the FE games I've played. Rather what they do have are terrain squares that convey certain benefits like forests or forts. Just compare the way the two do battles within cities and they both feel very different.
FE:A is still more FE than FFT, it's just not a very good FE is all.
I would love a FFTA3, while I love FFT for almost everything, the advance series to me had better building with races.
FFTA and FFTA2 were probably the only games I went autistic over and doesn't 200 hours each on.
>even your dead party members bodies
This is all sounding bretty gud, time to take another shot at it.
Put enough hours into VC for a lifetime but I'll check out FFT.
Played too much already.
Anyone tried Wild Arms XF?
Yes. Why is that relevant?
I wouldn't say sucked, and FFT was the better overall game, but building a team was less fun with overpowered unique units whom special abilities often dominated
What do you all think of Ogre Battle? I know it's a real time strategy, not turn based strategy, but still.
Every time I played OB64 I got a bad end for being a tyrant.
Am I a terrible person?
You guys are making me want to pull out the ol' box and play some more.
Ogre Battle gets my dick hard. Not only did they improve with each game, but Ogre Battle 64 blew me the fuck away.
I used to confuse Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre when I was younger.
I'm not talking about who you use to fight what
have chaotic units liberate low morale strongholds and lawful units liberate high morale and neutral units liberate mid morale strongholds.
Marche is a villain.
>lies to his own polio ridden baby brother
I hate you Doned. I hate you and you should never be happy. When you die I'm gonna fuck granny haired ritz in your wheelchair.
I got what you said, but then I have to march different alignment units all over the map and eat up my days.
I'll stop complaining now. I know what I have to do, I just don't want to do it.
Curious also, without peeking at an faq or something, do neutral units count against you on liberations/captures or are they safe? It's been a while and I'm about to fire that shit up from it's eternal slumber.
>Disgaea is dying, last good entry was Dark Hero Days
>Growlanser is done
>Fire Emblem turned brain dead easy
>Super Robot Wars is garbage
>Good western SRPGs are significantly rarer than good eastern SRPGs
Most of Disgaea's key members left after D2 due to NIS trying to reset their pay to starting wages
Disgaea 5 is now pursuing "a broader audience"
>wanting his friends to grow up and learn to accept life for all its positives and negatives instead of living in a dream world
Hell, he's the most genuine hero of all the Final Fantasy games.
Though I have no clue why he straight up lied to his brother. I guess if Doned complained in the real world, it'd be pretty easy to
walkaway from him.
What the fuck was going on with Ritz's hair anyway? Wheelchairs I can understand, being a beta who gets bullied by everyone I can understand, being an angry nutjob because you're a 12 year old with gray hair is a bit of an oddity.
>Good western SRPGs are significantly rarer than good eastern SRPGs
Jagged Alliance Flashback, Divinity Original Sin, Massive Chalice, Expeditions: Conquistador, Incognita, Open X-Com, XCOM: Enemy Within Long War, and (hopefully) Pillars of Eternity. I'd say we've actually finally got a fair amount of western SRPGs after years of nothing.
Pushing is in FFTA2. If you look up the laws for FFTA, they are far less luck based than the newer ones. They can really crimp your parties ability to fight, but that is why you keep the party varied and law cards on hand.
>SRPG threads are generally the most civil and useful threads
>All of these great recommendations
>Discover potentially new SRPGs
I guess being mutually fucked by the industry makes us all better people. I'm proud of you /v/.
Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean 4? Also we had a VP spinoff game for the DS and ports of SO1 and 2 for PSP. Not sure if Tri-Ace handled all of that but I don't recall anything newer where they weren't just co-developers.
The sad reality of the situation is once you finish those SRPGs you're in the same place as us. Playing hard mode/balance patches.
My CPU and ram were okay, but my graphics card was below what was usually needed by a healthy amount. I'm a dumb mac fag to boot with osx mavericks, it's pcxs2 project is just getting started.
>2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
>4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
>NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
complete and utter bullshit. people have beaten that fight with every single class, with just ramza and that class' abilities. it's the fight right after that's complete bullshit, and they've beaten that too.
I hear it pretty often, so what's the difference between TRPGs and SRPGs? Management of resources or something?
Have white mages in return
Japanese SRPGs are dead for sure but it seems like the genre is having a resurgence in the west. Its not like its a completely dead genre like Immersive Simulators or Flight Sims or Detective games.
>kid has friends
>parents aren't a piece of shit and/or dead
i mean yea i could understand if this were like, SAO and the people were put on life support while ingame but there's 0 indication of that. marche was just jealous the kid that got shit on his entire life had his one dream come true.
also, FFTA completely ruined everything that made FFT an amazing game. fuck you nintendo.
Nothing. TRPG and SRPG is interchangable. TRPG would be more appropriate I guess but SPRG is far more widely used.
An actual distinction is SRPG/TRPG and TBS. Former are games where you can customize each unit e.g. FFT, Xcom, while the latter are games where you don't and usually have a stronger strategic aspect e.g. King's Bounty, Heroes of Might & Magic
GBA is harder.
PSP has more content and is easier. Soundchip on the PSP is also better, but I prefer the GBA's OST.
I don't remember if the bath scenes were censored in the PSP version, but both are great. Not to mention the PSP has a higher resolution.
maybe I'm too late to this party but.
Wild Arms XF was a ton of fun to play thru. the game has so many options it is astounding. the cast of characters is large enough that you'll never need to use generics and rightly so since they are overpowered. Levin can solo the game and a properly set up Labryinthia or a properly sped up [redacted] can solo the game just as well. it is an overall fun game my only complaints is that it feels like a puzzle game at times and there is not enough porn of it.
OST is fantastic too
