>>253047894 >boring how? it makes you feel so lonely and depressed and it's so quiet and still all the time. it's like the best feeling ever. you can just wallow in echoes 2 for days. or you can speedrun it in about 4 hours.
I had never played any metroid game before, but i bought the Prime Collection to have something more to play on my Wii U, and holy shit, i'm loving it. It's got amazing atmosphere, and i really didn't expect how different it would feel from some standard generic fps crap. It's all lore, exploration, puzzles, and atmosphere. Love it.
Back in 2000 my dad had a PC with ZSNES and a shitton of games, one of the was Super Metroid, and for some reason the only playable part of the game was a Save Room where my dad had previously saved, if you tried to leave it the game would freeze for whatever reason. I was very young at the time and my mother language isn't English, so I didn't know what the fuck I was doing most of the time, I also didn't want to fuck with the menu options too much because I thought I could screw with my dad's computer so I never started a new file, so I just played on that little Save Room, and for some reason I really liked how the Power Suit looked. So then Prime came out and I immediately recognized the Power Suit, so I asked for a GameCube and a copy of Metroid Prime for christmas and that's exactly what I got, and holy shit, it blew me the fuck away.
>>253047581 Thank you my nigga. Prime 2 was stellar >>253047497 Fusion actually does linear metroid well in my opinion. At least WAY BETTER THAN OTHER M. Maybe cause I've been playing it as a mobile game on my phone...
>>253048781 >standard generic fps Don't let the first person view and the fact that you shoot fool you, it's an adventure game through and through. I've seen a lot of people who have never played the Prime games who think they're FPS games. And I see you're still pretty early on, have fun! I played through them all a while back, my gf got me Trilogy for my bday, going to be playing through it next semester.
Metroid is a great franchise. It deserves more recognition than it gets, but I'm suspicious part of the reason it's remained such a great franchise is that it mostly stays focused on its core fanbase and doesn't try to appeal to the mythical "wider audience."
Although Other M was an abomination and should be written off as non-cannon and forgotten.
Metroid 2 is best metroid. AM2R will make people realize how much of a masterpiece it is. Super Metroid isn't that great, but is still the second best metroid game. La-mulana remake is better than all of them Metroid Prime 2 > Metroid Prime 3 > Metroid Prime Other M is shit. People will think my post is bait and not my opinion.
>>253050830 An interesting point, I can see that. Especially something like Prime for example, new Metroid game, with FPS games becoming big, but Retro really sticks to the core Metroid feel and then kicks it up a notch, instead of making a "new age" Metroid that just reskinned a generic FPS with Samus and space priates.
Take Other M, which decided to take a bold new direction by focusing on story and action. They really focused on those (and did a mediocre job on the action and a terrible job on the story), but then forgot to make the game, you know, Metroid, and left out a lot of what made the series great: exploration, non-linearity, item collection, etc.
Anyone else think Dark Samus was a really fucking stupid antagonist? It did literally nothing in Prime 2; you could remove it entirely and the game would be exactly the same. Then in Prime 3 it was barely in the game until you fought it during an extremely anticlimactic final boss fight,
>>253051193 >maybe because Nintendo loosened the leash a bit and let Retro experiment a bit That didn't really happen, though. Prime 2 was the result of Nintendo rejecting Retro's original proposal for a sequel and telling them to make a Prime 1 rehash in under a year. Prime 3 was severely scaled back from Retro's original intentions as well- in-depth ship mechanics were cut, and Retro's proposal to have Samus actually hunt bounties throughout the game was denied.
That makes no sense. MM is just as different from OoT as Echoes was from Prime. Slightly shinier graphics, generally darker tone, new (and somewhat controversial) mechanics, brand new regions. Otherwise both games are fundamentally similar to their predecessors.
>>253050570 The problem is the FPS label is too all-encompassing
I've heard everything from Mirror's Edge to Fallout: NV to fucking Deus Ex get called "first person shooters". What do they have in common? The perspective and movement of the camera. Also there are guns that you can sometimes use. Is that really all it takes to define a whole fucking genre?
And it's sad because the term has now become almost universally associated with schlock like Call of Duty and thus there are people who will be immediately turned off from playing a game as soon as someone tells them it's an "FPS".
Yeah, they kind of jumped ahead too much. Prime 1+2 felt like they were just small stories about Samus and Metroid Prime, just a few chapters in her life and travels. Prime 3 went too big in scope and lost that feeling.
>mfw i did it 100% first full play through >dat ending doe >came back and played it again about year later >kinda rushed it for nostalgia >"thetimehascum.jpeg" >not in bikini >start having self doubts about weather it really happened or not.
its okay though, i got it on the 3rd play through when i figured it out.
>decide to go through my Metroid folder to post something relevant. >only these in there.
>>253051893 for whatever reason, the Zelda franchise is easily one of the most popular franchises for girls that actually play real video games. my guess is that most of these people wanting genderswapped link have never played a Metroid game. Metroid is not nearly as big of a franchise and i think it has a much smaller % of female fans.
>>253051676 It's just sad how awful Nintendo can be AMD how much they just plain don't fucking understand the west at all. They really need to just let retro do their thing. They're not some baby new studio, they have cherry picked talent from several great western devs, they know what they're doing. Honestly a Metroid with concepts like that alien space cruiser or full world exploration is EXACTLY what the Wii u needs to attract western fans. Stuff like corruption is fun but it does not get full attraction. Like shit someone needs to just slap the face of whoever is ruining their creative freedom whether it be Miyamoto or whoever
I thought Phazon was the raddest shit when it was just a mineral that was so radioactive that it mutated anything that got close to it. It was really fucking stupid when Retro turned it into Plot Goop that was used to explain any and all nonsensical shit they came up with, like mind control or evil darkness dimensions.
>>253052912 Sadly Nintendo will never fix that. They're far too stubborn to ever realize how wrong they are. It always gets me when I see stuff like that quote of Miyamoto saying he could easily make a game better thank halo if he wanted to. Like why doesn't he? The Wii u could definitely use an original game to appeal to the west but no he thinks making silly robot mini games with waggle and mediocre tower defense stuff is what will save the Wii U.
>>253052884 >Was helping the Luminoth a waste of time? Yes. >Was dual world Prime gameplay a waste of time? Double yes. Most of the dark world was bland and empty, and just there to pad the game time. The air hurting you was the dumbest mechanic ever.
>>253052438 >>253052902 Isn't that fucking insane when you think about it? An adventure game with puzzles and exploration starring a badass woman like Samus Aran has far less women who've ever touched it compared to an adventure game with puzzles starring link. Yet they still pretend to care enough to get butthurt over her cool new shoes in the new smash.
This. The marketing department wants players to believe that the more planets/worlds/mansions you cram into a game the bigger it is, but in reality all those planets are extremely tiny to make up for it. What makes the universe seem more vast, the tiny multiple planets we explored entirely in Prime 3, or the one planet we only saw a tiny piece of in Prime?
>>253053735 Because they play Smash. If it happens in the Metroid series, it doesn't show up on their radar as much. With Other M, there was tons of outcry about how poorly Samus' character was handled, but from Metroid fans, and not nearly as many SJWs as you see for everything else recently.
>>253054121 It wasn't really though. The chozo came down from their ascended from and were able to build the temple to seal it before they all went crazy. It was still having an effect on the planet but at a rate far far slower than what it would've been otherwise
>>253053421 Honestly, I think Nintendo(for the most part) has been massively humbled with the release of the Wii U. They know they have naught but a very core fanbase left, and must try new things to be appealing. I think they have given Retro more freedom- they were given the choice of what game they wanted to do next, and chose to do Dong Freeze. Also, look at splatoon, that's a game miyamoto never would have done, but they're giving new stuff a go.
Can someone tell me why people usually say that Quadraxis was the best boss fight in the Prime games? It constantly shits gold health orbs like they're candy which ruins any tension, and for three fourths of the fight it's just a head that harmlessly floats around the room.
Let me put it this way: at the end of Prime 1, when you leave Tallon and see Samus's ship enter the stars, you're leaving that place for good. The player feels as though they're leaving a place they've become familiar with, and they'll never return. The sheer scope of space also makes you think that, just like Tallon, there are numerous other planets that Samus will travel to and explore, and that your adventure was just one out of many. Prime 2 does this as well, and even manages to feel like the space equivalent of riding into the sunset.
Prime 3 tries to do this through a voice-over narration in the credits, but it just doesn't work.
>>253054479 Yeah, they're in an awkward position. If they try to hard to appeal to a broader audience, they lose their core fans, the people who are keeping the Wii U afloat. If they cater to the core fans, we're happy and buy more games, but they don't expand as much. Games like Mario3dWorld, Kart, and Smash can hit both groups well, hopefully they have more successful games like that. Zelda might hit both groups well too, but idk if it'll be enough to sell Wii U's to a new generation who may not have played a Zelda game before.
>>253054795 For me it had great build up You fight min versions through out the whole area. And you see the half finished version in the light world a ton, hinting at what you will have to face. Then all the lore builds at what was going on making it out to be this awesome death machine. And as for the actual fight, it requires you to use tons of different abilities, morph ball, boost ball, magnet ball, power bomb, light beam, dark beam, super missiles, echo visor, etc. And all his forms are just you taking him apart bit by bit slowly breaking him. Repeat play through might make him get boring but the first time through feels very epic
>>253053735 Not really that much of a surprise. The Zelda franchise has been the bigger franchise for a long time now. There weren't ANY Metroid games on the N64, while Zelda became established as a franchise juggernaut with OoT and MM. Every single Nintendo platform has at least one Zelda game, and most have two. We all saw how much fanfare the Zelda franchise got for its 25th anniversary compared to the Metroid franchise.
It's hard to be a fan of something you don't know much about. Most people nowadays probably mainly know Samus from Smash Bros., which doesn't really tell anyone anything about what the Metroid franchise is like or what kind of a character Samus is.
>>253055326 I'd say they can totally expand the games without losing core fans. They really need to nail the feeling of epic and loneliness with the next Metroid. Also fix the advertising. If you look up the ads and trailers for all the prime games, they're all awful. I don't know how they ever got any sales with how bad the marketing was.
>>253055125 >>253055326 Yeah, i don't think they'll lose their core audience by appealing to a broader one, nor the opposite, I just think they need to pump out more quality unique titles, which will attract the core, naturally, and a broader audience will come to that as well. They're stepping up their game because another NSMB won't help sell Wii Us.
Eh, I was fond of Pirate Homeworld myself. Whenever I replayed Corruption I was really excited to get back to it. I also liked the abandoned spaceships, but those are long-standing staples of the series. Really, I'd only say Bryyo and Norion were boring. Phaaze had pretty neon lights. I like pretty neon lights.
>>253055953 Those are two different kinds of audiences. Wii sports is full on casual crowd, Nintendo needs to get some appeal from the dudebro audience. Right now they have a problem of everything going straight for casuals still. They need to drop that or they will die
>>253055560 That is definitely true. However, part of the genius of smash, is the marketing power of it. The characters in smash, especially from less known series, all get a LOT more popular after being in smash.
>>253055858 This is what i mean. Take that, and then look at Fire Emblem, and even Earthbound to an extent. Even if smash is where you first saw a character, as it was for me, you'd think Samus would be getting some more notice than none at all from people outside the core metroid fanbase.
>>253047138 Seems like a series I would love but I just can't get into it. I've played Metroid and Super Metriod but I got too bored to finish. Bought the Prime collector's edition but I've only finished 1. Didn't even like it all that much I kinda forced myself to finish. Quickly got too bored for 2 and haven't even started 3. Played the Hunter's multiplayer with friends once and that was cool. Ironically the only game I can honestly say I really enjoyed was Other M.
>>253050460 I agree. It's wildly overrated. It's fans are too nostalgia-drunk to see its flaws: Maridia, the wonkiness of the space jump and the grapple beam, and that god awful Mother Brain boss fight.
Zero Mission is my personal favorite, it's fast paced as fuck and the power grip is the best.
No, fuck that. That was a good commercial. Seemed like something 90's Nintendo would do, though that's hardly surprising given that Prime came out in the early 2000's. This is before Iwata's rise to presidency, isn't it?
>>253056860 Compare that to the commercial for corruption http://youtu.be/6kdAaGczvws As amusing as those Japanese guys were, it's noticeably appealing more to casuals than the prime ads were. It's also the lopwest selling prime game despite being the only one on the Wii which sold 6x as much as the cube
>>253057893 While neat, the commercial only really showcases the waggle gimmicks prime 3 had to appeal to casuals. It didn't focus on story, music, visuals or feel of Metroid much at all. For the regular dudebro who plays halo and stuff, watching that commercial would probably have put them off about getting the game
I don't think Other M is as bad as people make it out to be. It's not GOOD, but it's not really deserving of pariah status either. It was a mediocre game with a shit story and shittier characterization. That said, it's weird that someone would only enjoy Metroid when it's not Metroid.
>>253058512 >It was a mediocre game with a shit story and shittier characterization In a unique, critically acclaimed, highly regarded series.
That's why people make it out to be THAT bad.
If this was released as a non-Metroid game, no one would notice, it'd be bought by some and left to obscurity, some people would find it a decent "under the radar" title. But when you take a series like Metroid, completely remove everything that makes it Metroid, pretty much shit on your main character and the lore for the series, and leave the series on that note for several years, it tends to get people annoyed.
>>253058512 No, this is unacceptable. See pic related. Even if the game is objectively okay it still is shit compared to the rest of the series. It was a mess of bad decisions and should not be given any sequel or spinoff.
There were bounty hunters around to take you down at a moment's notice. You actually weren't alone in Hunters. Fusion did a much better job of invoking a sense of isolation, let alone Metroid 1/2, Super, or Prime 1/2.
I need some help here guys, I've just finished the prime trilogy in the last couple of days. I loved all three guys and got really imersed in each one because of atmosphere and music and all that good shit. It's left me really wanting to play other M but I'm afraid it will ruin my love for the series if I do. Should I leave it be or is everyone exaggerating how bad it is?
The game actively keeps you from exploring. Just got a new power up and suddenly you're remembering all these previous areas where it would come in handy? Too bad. The door to get back there has locked behind you. You're stuck on a one way trip through the plot.
The dodge mechanic was busted. It avoids all damage and awards you with a free full charge on your beam. And there's no punishment for mistiming a dodge attempt. So go ahead and mash d-pad to win.
Missiles are really awkward to use because of the reorientation of the controller you have to do, and because of how it restricts movement. The result is that you just never use them outside of times you absolutely have to.
Pixel hunts where you're locked into looking for a specific part of the environment to advance the plot.
>>253064424 Thank you for your input, I actually feel a little bit like crying now. How could they do this to the series? Why butcher a good thing? I won't sleep tonight until I find out the real motives behind this bullshit.
Probably my favorite Metroid games in order: Fusion, Prime 2, Prime 1. Never got 3 because it lost its glory to me at the requirement of the wiimote. Didn't play any more handelds either. I'm curious to see what a new one would be like on the wiiu.
>>253065341 got a friend of mine into metroid games. he loved fusion. after super he said it was bogged down by the controls and not giving the player any time to enjoy the new power or weapon before everything became immune to it.
It's pretty interesting how Retro approached the Metroid setting like a sci-fi universe, and how that made them come into conflict with Sakamoto at every turn. It seems like Sakamoto doesn't really give a crap about the sci-fi angle at all, it's just a big space fantasy setting where he continually introduces completely retarded ideas that make no sense at all and contradict what's been established in the series.
I can understand the mentality although I don't respect it at all, but what I can't begin to fathom is why Sakamoto is so protective of his totally retarded universe. If he's going to play fast and loose like that, why didn't he just give Retro the go ahead to do whatever? Like, it wasn't okay for Retro to make a Metroid version of System Shock 2, but Sakamoto's mind-boggling dumb story that took the exact same plot but made it a thousand times more retarded with a Mother Brain-clone gynoid thing fits perfectly. Why.
I remember being a little kid, playing through Super Metroid, and getting to the part where, after going through Brinstar, you end up in Norfair and cannot leave until you get a specific item. Once you finally get it, you exit Norfair and end up at your ship, and this music starts playing:
I had the feeling that everything that had come before that music playing was just introductory. Getting used to the mechanics, how to find/use items and how things would generally work from there on out.
When I heard that music for the first time, I felt like the game was encouraging me, like a harbinger of an epic journey filled with hardship but also triumph. The contrast between this song and the somber, isolationist songs that made up the rest of the soundtrack only made it stand out more. And so I set out to beat Super Metroid.
Eventually I came to the final boss, and the cutscene in which Samus gets hit by that fuckin crazy hyper beam thing. She's on her last legs, nearly dead and you can't control her, you feel so helpless just like she must feel. Then the metroid comes to save you, and you get that overcharged lazer that fucking wrecks everything.
When Samus stood back up, and the first drum beats of that very same song started to play, I was on cloud nine. I knew what was coming. And destroying Mother Brain as Samus' theme played in the background was one of the best experiences I ever had as a child.
>>253070317 I'm playing the first game right now and I don't seen any apparent story. I was in one space station and then I saw ridley and then everything blew up and I fell down. Now I have a wave beam and there's snow outside.
2D Metroid story >Simplistic, let players explore a deserted planet, finding enemies and bosses as they go >Super Metroid ending, build the story into the game
Prime story >Minimal on the surface, let players explore to find out about it >Put tons of lore in logs and lore scattered throughout the game >Players piece together story on their own as a reward for exploring >Prime 2, Luminoth tell you some stuff about planet, but then leave it to you to do stuff. >Dark Samus stuff is all visual, show don't tell >Prime 3 adds more narrative, but keeps scan lore and lets players around on their own for the most part
Other M story >Sakamoto: You know, what the Metroid series really needs is a focus on storytelling >We need to explore Samus' conscious, and her insecurities >We need to show her strained relationship with one of her previous commanders and how she struggles to come to terms with it >We can do this through the use of cutscenes, and lots of dialogue. In fact, Samus should narrate her point of view, so we realize how lonely she is and how insecure she is >It doesn't matter if the previous lore from the series is overlooked or contradicted >Yes, that's exactly what this series needs
>>253071164 Have you been using the scan visor? Scanning logs / lore adds them to your log and you can read them. A lot of nice stuff, everything from Space Pirates having to be reminded that Metroids are not pets and should not be fed, to history of the Chozo, stuff about Samus' tech, events that led to the state of Tallon IV as it is, etc.
I like the one where the Space Pirates try to copy Samus' morph ball tech and wind up breaking the spines of the test subjects.
I feel like Fusion wrote themselves into a dead end. Metroids are extinct and the space pirates are no longer a threat. There's nowhere else to go, except for prequels/interquels, but the time between Metroid 1 and 2 has already been unnecessarily drawn out by the Prime series.
Also, they're getting uncreative with bosses. Metroid Prime turned into Dark Samus, which is a clone of Samus. SA-X was a clone of Samus. How many times are they gonna just clone Samus for a boss fight?
>>253073113 Maybe you're just joking and that's cool, but I really don't know why some guys on /v/ are over reacting. Sure, there is more focus on Zero Suit Samus now but that's only because of Smash Bros. and Other M. I don't know why everyone is whining about the recent emphasis on sexualizing the character, as if this is going to be a permanent thing anyway. I'm sure everything will be back to normal come next Metroid game
I already did. It doesn't help the depression I feel knowing that Metroid is screwed either way. Let me regale you on the options we have infront of us.
>Miyamoto actually stays true to his word and makes a good Metroid game with minimal sex fanservice >everyone hates it and demands more Zero Suit, the game bombs even harder than Other M did, and Sakamoto comes back to "fix" the series
>game is Other M 2 >hailed as genius by /v/ because they want to spite SJW by loving any game with weak females, and they love jacking off to ZSS >Samus is never allowed to be badass again
>>253072668 It's actually played for laughs from what I remember (the test subjects were other space pirates, not kidnapped children or anything). I believe one Space Pirate makes a log saying that he "believes science team has vapor for brains"
>Sure, there is more focus on Zero Suit Samus now but that's only because of Smash Bros. and Other M.
The problem is that it's overencompassing her character. Before, she could be sexy, but that never impeded her ability to be a badass bounty hunter. Now, we're lucky if she's ever even allowed to pick up a gun again without a man authorizing it.
Smash Brothers will make it even worse. Look at the popularity of the Zero Suit and how much people love it compared to the power suit. Look how much people depise the power suit because it isn't "sexy enough" for them. That will have dark implications for the series.
I love the Prime scan lore, like how the Pirates actually respect Samus, though in a fearful way; they recognize her as a formidable foe. They refer to her as "the hunter". Logs like this one from Prime 2 are nice (the pirates had mistaken Dark Samus for Samus in a new suit):
"Another hunter, wearing the traditional colors of Samus Aran, made planetfall today. Horrific as it may sound, there are two of them now. We are bracing for a new assault. This dire turn of events may bear some good will. One of our scouts in Dark Aether saw a curious encounter. The Dark Hunter attacked the one clad as Samus near a Phazon site. Perhaps they are not allies...but foes. Perhaps we can forge an alliance with the Dark Hunter - an exchange, Phazon for the head of our common enemy."
One game that nintendo acknowledges over every other Metroid game, and is more canon than any of them. Also, it's a game that never had a single negative comment against it. Everyone at Nintendo sucked up to it, and now Miyamoto will try to make Other M 2. I've seen this before.
>the new Paper Mario will be TTYD like! I promise!- Miyamoto
>>253074436 >Also, it's a game that never had a single negative comment against it. It seemed like internally they sucked up to Sakamoto, but Other M got bombed hard by critics and fans alike, and didn't do so well on sales.
I had never played one before just a week ago. I started with Zero Mission (no save states allowed of course) and I liked it quite a bit. I am at the end of the game, just got the fully powered suit. The exploration and action were both highly enjoyable. Will probably go on to Super Metroid afterwards.
They're already doing it with those Amiibos. What makes you think they won't make a thousand Pokemon action figures and have them exclusively tie in with the Wii-U? That would net them even more money.
>>253075625 Do you think they paid reviewers? I honestly still can't figure out what happened here. Some major shill publications who exemplify everything we hate about game reviewing did pan the game, when they're usually the first ones whoring themselves out. You'd think they of all people would be slobbering over the game's dick if there was a dollar in it.
Maybe I'm just trying to exonerate Nintendo because I'm a fucking faggot fanboy, but my theory is that spineless reviewers were/are afraid to give bad scores to monumental franchises like this because they're massive pussies afraid of driving their readership away, and also that Other M's brainless shitty challengeless combat has enough flash to make your average skilless retard reviewer feel like they're awesome when the game's practically on autopilot. It's the kind of short, flashy, and shallow action game that reviews well, like God of War. Since these are the same batch of chucklefucks that gave Heavy Rain an aggregate score of 80-fucking-7, it wouldn't surprise me if they wouldn't recognize awful writing if it were tattooed upside down on their retinas.
So I guess my completely unique and groundbreaking theory is that reviewers are complete retards, and I'd bet that with their total lack of integrity, every one of them will do a complete 180 on their Other M opinion now that public opinion is against theirs.
>>253078238 Amiibo is less glorified DLC, and more glorified memory card.
It seems atleast most of their current plans is tracking and saving stats. I doubt it will actually unlock any important content, but I'd like to hear what they have to say about using amiibos with games they don't represent, whether it will represent some random relevant amiibo or they'll ask you to go out and buy a relevant one.
It just seems a strange business model. As a consumer I would be more focused on which amiibo I would use most rather than which character I liked the most. If I get a Villager one it might only work with Smash and Animal Crossing U, but if I get a Mario or a Luigi or a Yoshi it will work with the dozen or so Mario games planned for the generation.
I think they're aware of this, and likely have some plan for it. I think all amiibos will mostly do the same things regardless of the character, and that Smash as a conglomeration of nintendo properties will be the exception.
Nintendo will move all their current non-platforming Mario brand games towards being not series specific and you can use any Amiibo you have to use that character in the game.
Mario Party easily becomes Amiibo Party. They'll probably start with this series since all characters are just cosmetic changes anyway. With no actual character specific gameplay properties, it would be very easy to implement a large number of playable characters via Amiibo
Then Mario Kart becomes Amiibo Kart Mario Tenis becomes Amiibo Tenis Mario and Sonic at the Olympics becomes Nintendo and Sega at the Olympics ect
>>253079193 >I think all amiibos will mostly do the same things regardless of the character, and that Smash as a conglomeration of nintendo properties will be the exception Maybe, though that severely limits their own potential profits. I don't think they'll be that consumer friendly. I see them milking this thing dry. Make you buy Pokemon Amiibos for Pokemon, make you buy Fire Emblem Amiibos for Fire Emblem, etc. It'd be nice if they were interchangeable, but I honestly don't see that happening.
>>253072256 The space pirate's logs are great. It actually paints them to be an intelligent threat. I really enjoyed seeing a pair of them observing/studying the space pirate frigate and then getting spooked when they see you behind them.
>>253080406 >It actually paints them to be an intelligent threat. >Space Pirates >intelligent In all seriousness, I agree. I love that they can be the lovable goofy idiots they are, but still pose a reasonable threat.
>>253084680 >You don't like something I like so you must suck at it and you don't want to git gud! I want to scream every fucking time I hear that retarded meme. No anon, I prefer Zero because I just like the routing more. This is a personal preference, I am not implying that Zero is Better or Worse than Super in any way so let's avoid having a retarded argument.
>>253082532 Spooky bird ghost already had it. The chozo have left a tone of their shit lying around the galaxy like they were the Ancients from Stargate. Zebes is even their home planet, so yeah, there's just an extra suit for anyone who can pass the test.
And Samus' little carving is just the cutest thing! Gets me every time.
I honestly thought Phaaze was really cool, nice climactic final area for the game/series, and instead of fighting some giant mutated phazon monster, I fight a robot version of that pendulum plant miniboss from Super Metroid
>>253085785 >>253085445 Why were the plasma beam, gravity suit, and space jump suddenly compatible with the suit? Is it really just coincidence that they had a random suit lying around with only the upgrades that samus had received before hand and not a fully powered suit with everything?
>>253086870 I don't know. Maybe Samus had a memory back up device on hand to tell the new suit what she had before or something like that. Maybe the statue itself is psychic and knew about her previous upgrades.
>>253086870 sometimes I even question the truth behind chozo technology.
they bitch about their planet getting fucked by poisons and shit that were from impact crater and do nothing about it and yet they create an all powerful suit that can when controlled single-handedly destroy the corruption
>"Large portions of my suit had to be surgically removed, dramatically altering my physical appearance." Does this mean the GF amputated her limbs? Is she a cyborg now? Also, if the galactic federation had to remove her normal suit, is her fusion suit just a redesigned version of the shitty suit worn by regular GF troopers?
>>253088920 I always assumed that was the influence of the metroid DNA, and her suit somehow became an organic object with the introduction of metroid DNA (bird magic) and grew some material similar to a metroid's carapace
I always figured that the Chozo, being the far sighted people they are, planned for this whole thing from the beginning and that whole Metroid meaning ultimate warrior shit was really a reference to the end product, a Samus-Metroid hybrid
I tried to replay other m to give it a second chance, give it a fair shot, no. no no no. that was my mistake, that game is bad. its not just a bad metroid game, its just a bad game all together. painfully bad voice acting that makes watching a dubbed hentai from the 80's less cringe-worthy and full of more emotion. casual babby tier auto aim, shameless auto aim, with shameless infinite misses and shameless infinite health. I couldn't continue playing through the opening sequence in the training room, i had to stop. i will sell it at gamestop when i get the chance this week, maybe i can get $5 for it.
Then i put in metroid prime, and spent 10 minutes listening to the opening menu theme music thinking on how everything went so wrong. Then proceeded to get my shit handed to me by some parasites and crippled troopers because i forgot how to play the game.
>yfw it strikes you that Metroid Prime 1.5 probably would've given Samus/The Metroid universe enough characterization to make Other M look completely retarded with no chance for defense >It probably would've been the best game in the franchise >Nintendo made them scrap it because they thought it was "wrong for Metroid" >Later allow Sakamoto complete creative freedom on Other M and get a linear, cutscene-ridden game where Samus acts like an immature goof and multiple staples of the franchise are done away with completely >They say this is a "million title," put shitloads of advertising into it worldwide, defend it when people hate it
It's nonexistent anymore. The failure and trainwreck of Other M was a misinterpret sign to Nintendo that nobody likes Metroid, which is wrong. We just want an actual Metroid game for once in what. 5 years?
>>253092643 5 years isn't long enough to claim the series is dead. Last Generation, that is, the Wii and DS era, we got metroid prime 3, the metroid prime trilogy, hunters, and other M released. After other M they waited till that was far from everyone's mind, but the series is far from "ruined forever" just because of that.
Metroid led to its own downfall when they made the "samus is female" ending in the original.
From that point on, no one could write Samus without the number one thing on their mind being she's a female, because that was such a huge reveal. Metroid 2? Maternal ending. Super Metroid? Mother's revenge. Metroid Prime? She has to look feminine. Other M was just the penultimate conclusion.
Want a decent Metroid game? You've got to dump Samus Aran and just get a generic power suit exploring an OPEN alien world collecting power ups that let you back track faster and to new areas. And for the love of God don't reveal who's in the suit. They could turn out AT LEAST 3 games doing that before they had to reveal something about the blank slate protagonist.
>>253071921 This made me think... Why dont they put a few lore connected items in the 2d metroid? I mean like instead of finding a missile expansion you find this disk with the last words of a space pirates working there or something, like it was in the 3d metroids. It would be cool since when you have more than 150 missiles finding another expansion feels like wasted energy.
