>>253756330 All transformations taken into consideration?
Pokemon had 6 pokemon representatives. As of now, SS4 has 4. Additionally, having starter pokemon representatives from multiple generations makes a lot of sense.
>Mewtwo would be much better I don't think we're ever going to get another legendary character as a playable pokemon. I remain convinced that the legendary status is the biggest reason he was cut in favor of Mewtwo.
>>253755998 Because the roster was decided upon BEFORE X and Y was even getting made really. So your logic of "it supports a up and coming game" doesn't exist, since Greninja was decided on when he only had concept art.
>>253757968 Mewtwo is likely just because he was cut from Brawl, and Sakurai likely wants to implement the characters he cut from Brawl and put them in Smash 4 in some fashion. Also since he was in contact with Gamefreak while they were developing X and Y, they probably told him about Mewtwo having a large role in X and Y by having two mega evolutions as well.
>>253758137 Sakurai stated at the roundtable all he had to work with for Greninja was concept art. He literally picked a pokemon based on looks alone, and spent a day working to make them a moveset. He states the roster was decided before Smash 4 even started getting worked on.
>>253757826 Don't forget that Jiggs still hasn't been confirmed, and her being cut is extremely unlikely. If there will be more Pokemon reps on top of the 4 we have + Jiggs it's most likely going to be Mewtwo making his return.
-Was going to be in Brawl but was cut due to time constraints -Sakurai likely then wants to put him in the next game, which is Smash 4 -Mewtwo plays a important role in X and Y -The roster was decided BEFORE Smash 4 was even in development. Source: The Roundtable at E3. -Just like Charizard, he has two mega evolutions. -During a interview with the developers for X and Y, someone asked them if Mewtwo would return to Smash Bros, and Sakurai suddenly stood up and answered the question when it wasn't directed at him in the first place with "we are thinking about it"
>>253759138 Wrong. Sakurai picked the roster BEFORE X AND Y was barely in development at all. Those remakes came WAY WAY WAY AFTER X AND Y was made probably. He didn't pick Charizard cause he is fire, and he didn't pick Greninja cause he is water. At the Roundtable, he literally says "I saw this water frog, and thought "hey, he seems pretty cool, what does he do?" Literally chose him based on looks and what he could do. There is no element triangle.
>>253759752 He's a legendary, and it gets explained in the game how there are two Mewtwo's, one in Kanto and one in the new region. And Mewtwo has two evolutions just like Charizard. Those two are the only ones with TWO mega evolutions.
>>253759952 There's a scientist that talks about why there are two Mewtwo's in the world, so he has some story. Also, having two mega forms is a big deal, considering the only other one like that is Charizard.
>>253760062 >and it gets explained in the game how there are two Mewtwo's, one in Kanto and one in the new region. actually, no. That's just an anime thing. The Genesect movie featured a Mewtwo that wasn't the same one as in the 1st movie, complete with a woman voice actor, a different backstory and everything.
Mewtwo's presence in XY isn't really explained at all, it's just chilling in a cave until you find it and battle it
>>253761426 well yeah, but there's no explanation as to if this is the same Mewtwo that used to hang out in Cerulean's Unknown Dungeon or if it's somehow a different Mewtwo like how there's now multiple in anime canon.
As someone already said, the developers themselves stated that they had a slot reserved for a new Pokémon and Game Freak sent them a bunch of reference material. Sakurai picked Greninja because he looked cool and that's it. That happened when both SSB4 and X/Y were still very early in development and the Hoenn remakes most likely not even considered yet.
If there's any more Pokémon beyond what's been shown, it will be returning ones.
The better question is why would it be in Smash. Why would they choose Sceptile when Blaziken is right there and TPCI obviously favors Blaziken? Because I don't see Sceptile getting a special mega evolution event early, being currently featured in the anime, and getting a bunch of new toys. Do you?
>b-but grass starter! Completely irrelevant in this case because there isn't a need to make a trio of transforming characters all related to one another. There's no point of "replacing" Ivysaur with a completely unrelated grass starter who doesn't even share any of what Ivysaur did just to have an arbitrary grass starter.
But at the end of the day I don't think any 3rd gen starter is getting into Smash. The 5th and 6th Pokemon will be Jigglypuff and Mewtwo. Jigglypuff has been in 3 games already and I don't see them cutting it while Mewtwo is also a veteran and has gotten two mega evolutions and a recent movie. Sakurai has said that he talks to TCPI and researches movies for the hottest Pokemon. Mewtwo had a movie just last year and they wouldn't have given it two megas if they didn't think it was popular.
Not that I want any more pokemon reps but why not Treecko instead? If pokemon trainer, jigglypuff and pikachu are any indication its that final evolutions are not necessarily mandatory. And more importantly he looks fucking stupid.
