What single image from a videogame can make you sad
I am sorry guys I just wanted to share the pain
Best time I've ever had playing a game. It was a truly magical moment when you first got this back in the day and booted it up to be greeted by the Darnassus Night Elf intro.
I could spend hours at a time running around the world and I'd be having the time of my life every second. You'd group with people for quests or dungeons, get stuck on them for fucking ages and make strong as fuck friendships.
All those moments are lost in time like tears in rain.
You know how the nostalgia works first you get hit with the big sad then you remember the good times
> AB decide to take Verata's Aura on warrior for fun
> bump into a full minion master
>watch as his whole army turns on him while charging in
> his own ass gets rended by his own Flesh golem
>Laugh my way to the mesmer fucking my ass.
Good times were had that day.
>MFW Crystal Oasis for the first time
The aesthetic of the game was sublime, the score was by far Soule's greatest work.
Not so much images, but most pieces of music from FFXI make me pine for the past. That game was a horrific grind, but it has some wonderful atmosphere.
>Play as a Warrior
>Only encounter faggot Air Elementalists.
>Play as a Mesmer to fuck them up
>Only encounter asshole Daze rangers
>Play as an assassin to kill the faggot rangers
>Get knocked down to death by a warrior
Do you remember when you for the first time entered Yak's Bend? ;_;
>All that dosh I made doing Droknar's runs with my W/Mo back in the day when it still required effort.
>Crossing the Shiverpeaks for the first time and seeing the jungles of Kryta
There has never been a single piece of fantasy entertainment be it book, film or videogame that captured the feel of an epic journey quite like Guild Wars.
11/10, no MMO will ever replace it in my heart
we had just switched from dial-up and it was the first online multiplayer game I had ever played so the notion of meeting people from the other side of the world just blew me away
I only played the beta.
Think you started with level 15 chars and went up to 20.
game seemed neat, but I never got into it after that.
Decent class system.
Everything was instanced so I saw it more as a diablo type game than an MMO.
I still remember those few days fondly when I played with my friend.
I was a Monk/Elementalist and he was a Monk/ranger.
Scenery was beautiful, weird that you couldn't jump though.
It was pretty cool going further and further away and spotting giants.
>Reach that remote area of the Shiverpeaks
>Nobody is around
>Snow gently falling
>just stand there and listen to this
>Vampire Hunters(I do not recall the name, was an early map with vampires vs vampire hunters, FMVH was a deeper version of it.
>Parasite by DarkShogun, before I discovered Metastasis
>Solar Conquest, damn why did I discover that map too late
The memories don't hurt anymore, they just make me happy and nostalgic
It's seeing the present that kills me
they left or got fired
>that whole scarlet fiasco
>the whole trahearne thing
>that shit story
>that terrible final boss fight
>that incoherent lore
i won't believe it's the same team, i refuse
I still find it hilarious that ANET basically killed their own game with the inclusion of heroes.
But what's worse is it only killed the game because hero's basic AI could out perform 99% of players.
On the plus side, they haven't fucked with that world map since "Renewal" happened. All the maps they've added since then (about 6 in the past 8 years) are in some alternate dimension.
Unfortunately they blew up Morroc and about 3 of its field maps but other than that the shape of Rune Midgar and the Schwartzwald Republic haven't been trifled with.
I actually organized a small gathering of people from /v/ to play this yesterday and today.
We did urgoz warren and the fissure of woe, two areas that i hadn't finished in the 8 years i played the game.
pic related, us winning
I might go on sometime soon and wander about and wallowing nostalgia and wasted days with friends long gone. I'm pretty certain I still have a level 12 Mesmer in 15k armor for some reason. Oh man, I'm remembering the 5k+ hours I put into GW.
So many characters, so much alliance battles.
Shiverpeaks best place in Tyria
Good ol' days, when people actually spoke English and the Devs weren't shameless shills.
What I heard, they didn't have the original writers. That's why Scarlet, Trahearne, the five hero faggots etc. were so terrible.
I actually have good feeling about Living Story season 2, because they now have the writers on board.
Seems like Rytlock is going to do something fucking stupid in next Living Story (releasing Ascalon ghosts)
Killing one of the little characters from GW1 that could have made a return. Damn GW2 story started so bad. It's like they just showed a giant middle finger to the original lore.
At least they are trying to repair it recently with the LS, but still the damage has been done.
Game was still fine, made it more solo friendly but you still needed people for harder things and at first you could only have like 3 heroes anyway so you needed at least 1 other person (who also knew how to micro)
why did it kill the game? not being cheeky, genuinely curious. i thought it was a pretty good addition seeing as how, as you said, the AI was usually more competent than real players anyway
Because it took away the need to actually play with other players.
And now adays you CAN do shit like UW and DoA with heroes anyways.
You only ever team with other players if you want to do some speed farming in elite areas.
I made the last two threads at about 3pm gmt but I'll do one tomorrow at around 8 or 9pm
pic is the fow team from today
>People who would use shit builds and then get butthurt when they refused to change it so you kicked them
>pretending the game is dead
I just got a team of four local friends to play through this game with me. We're already most of the way through the Prophecies campaign. The servers are still up and the game is only as dead as you faggots think it is.
Well except for AB and Factions' 16-man missions that shit is everything except officially dead.
They should have limited heroes to 1 per person so you'd still need a party of 4 minimum real players.
You know what the saddest thing is? There will never be another.
There will never be another MMO with such amazing depth of skill & combat, such a vast world and such a great NO GRIND ideology. Ever. Again.
>multiplayer online battle arena
that's a made up goddamn bullshit term that riot came up with.
it can describe fucking anything
the term you want is either "A dota" or ASSFAGGOTS
and it's neither of those
> tfw we will never get the proper guild wars 1 sequel we deserve
>that feeling of beginning a new life
>that feeling of jumping into the great unknown, where every single thing amazes you
>that feeling where you looked up to higher levels like gods and the pride you felt as you reached those levels
>the cosy feeling of the music
>the ambience of the cities at night
>the friends and enemies you made along the way, the unique stories of your world
It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, it was the quality of the game but also the complete introduction to MMOs and RPGs for many of us at the time so everything was even more new.
>You will never experience this again
>It was 10 years ago
It didnt have to be this way ;_;
Because it invited the worst mentality to ever infect the MMO genre, the fuck communication and socialization type of mindset. nowadays would you even be able to trust someone so much to give them 75k ingame and for them to come back and hand you a perfect req 9 tyrian modded chaos axe dyed to look gold.
MMO nowadays lack that heart.
Moba is a term coined by League of Legends to describe what kind of a game it is.
Guild Wars deemed themselves as CORPG's, Competitive Online RPG's (PvP) or Cooperative Online RPG's (PvE).
I cry everytim
>I actually have good feeling about Living Story season 2
It's still glorified fanfic without any soul to it. Doesn't help that the core game itself is so stagnant it may as well be called Swamp Wars 2.
yeah, ah well you're right
i remember doing thunderhead keep with retards. took me like 30 tries. goddamn what a retarded spike in difficulty that was. gw1 was fucking hard a lot of times.
now i could just have my heroes do thunderhead keep for me, no problem.
>all that time spent waiting for GW2 when I could have been apreciating GW1 a whole load more
>He hasn't played the Ultima games
Look at him, look at him and laugh.
>four local friends
>Game is totally not dead guise!!
Look, I'm happy for you man, but the game's a fucking wasteland comapred to what it used to be. And mind you I'd say it was never an excessively crowded game.
it hurts op.
gw2 doesn't know what it wants to be atm.
fucking all they need to do is add skills and weapons and classes holy fuck and we get this limit time buillshit
fucking gw NIGHTFALL WAS ALREADY OUT AT THIS time in each of its lifetime.
He left because there was no fucking future in Ascalon. His father was going insane and Flame Legion was a force that Ascalon could not defeat thanks to Searing.
Also see what the hell happened to Ascalon when Flame Legion finally actually invaded it. Just fucking look at it. Rurik saved his people.
>tfw I never finished the Nightfall and EoTN campaigns
It was so satisfying finishing the last mission and bonus in prophecies with only henchmen in three hours after several human parties failed on the first pulls.
>you will never need to grind
grindiest game i've ever played
>one time payment, updates are free
have to pay to play an update if you miss it
>no gear threadmill
>your choices matter!
your choices don't matter
>guild wars 2!
guilds are not at war
>pvp focused game
pvp is shite
i will never get fooled like this again
New trailer was posted but if you meant about the writers, I don't have any good links now at my hand, sorry.
But for example the guild where I am it's pretty well known thing already.
Sorry m8 i don't deal with shit games.
>That fucking Katana quest finale
Man that shit was intense as balls. I still remember a friend of mine getting corner-trapped by the Rotworms and screaming "TAKE MY BAG AND GET OUT OF HERE"
Good times. I still remember my first Dragon and Desert Quest victim.
I always wanted to play that game but my family had a shit computer at the time. I finally managed to save up some money for upgrades and then I heard it was shutting down.
So I tried Eve Online instead, no regrets there. Played it on and off ever since, goddamn its almost been a decade.
Yosu steppin' on thin ice son I hope you realize that.
>WHY DID HE LEAVE ASCALON IN THE FIRST PLACE
Rurik vs. Adelbern was caring for the people vs. caring for your pride.
Ascalonians lived in liquid shit (more or less literally) after the Searing and were under a constant thread. Rurik wanted the people to live a better life, placing them above the pride of a ruler's might, so he tried leading them to a safe place, and maybe recapture and rebuild Ascalon many generations later after they had built up strength in Kryta..
>Guild Wars 2 will never ever return to Cantha and Elona
>GW2 will never ever be good
I still have it in my closet.
And every time I look at the box I get sad. (Same with my CoH box.)
Not an image, but I'm sure some of you will share my pain when you hear this again
i like how it's finally starting to look more like guild wars. i liked the way cutscenes were actual character models in the actual world, instead of that shitty arty cop out stuff they did in gw2 where you only saw the 2 characters conversing and making gestures.
still isn't quite there, but it's going in the right direction
>that pre searing feel
>tfw the strongest enemy was a charr beyond the wall
>tfw paying people to be a gate monkey and farming beyond the wall yourself
>tfw you will never see Ascalon with all its beauty ever again because the charr fucked it up beyond repair and the ghosts of ascalon will never stop fighting
>i will never get fooled like this again
You and me both man, goddamn GW2 was a bitter pill to swallow, but I'll never be hyped for a game ever again for lack of better judgement.
Except W3, please don't fail me CDPR, please
>"caring for the people"
>more Ascalonians died on-screen in the Shiverpeaks than any other part of the game by a colossal margin
>Charr Army extremely sparse throughout the ruins of Ascalon
>Rurik still manages to believe there's a legitimate threat to what remained of Ascalon
>accepting GW2 lore as canon
Hmm, well its true that White Mantle with the help of their "gods", Mursaat, would have probably defeated Flame Legion. But another problem after that, when people are turned to worship Mursaat. If you don't, killed.
Of course that is still better than Flame Legion killing everyone.
Remember Alessia, remember Stephan
goddam Alessia, the shit you pulled was unacceptable
>Barely making it through Chars, the have 3 monks but somehow managable
>Stephan is on 1/3 oh his hp
>decides to step away IN THE MIDDLE OF A GODDAM BATTLE
>he pulls 8+ more chars
>mfw he's using seal of healing
>all those hours spent playing whatever cool sounding custom maps you could find in the games list
>finally starting to look more like guild wars
All we're missing is challenging content, more skills, a fully customisable skill bar, easily attainable BiS gear, an unraping of the lore, good and diverse PvP, an actual need to communicate with party members, vast expansions, fixing bugs present since the beta, ..
Oh wait, it's fucking NOTHING like the original.
>>Speaking of which, does anybody actually play Sorrow's Furnace anymore?
For the trophy. Gear doesn't have super great mods and it doesn't have the cool skins everyone wants now a days.
I do remember farming that shit in B/P teams back in the day though.
Was some of the most fun I had in GW1.
I wish you could see energy bars in this game.
The AI can, why can't I? :(
>get people in our guild to run our low levels to droknar's forge
>get best armor
>go to low level arenas
>spend an entire night fucking around with other low levels/high armored mates and getting people mad
This was 9 years ago...
>going on a massive organized raid into the PVP area when it first went online
>hundreds of heroes stood outside the gates waiting for them to open
>everyone changes their colours to Freedom Phalanx colours
>lag like fuck because shitty irish potato-powered connection and computer
Died a lot, but I remember it fondly.
It has lots of neat ideas but the execution of those ideas is extremely flawed. What little effort arenanets has spent in fixing things has only made the game worse.
That and their complete lack of balance for the majority of its two years of release. Its fucking pathetic.
If you go into the game with zero expectations you should enjoy it for awhile, more than your moneys worth. Just avoid comparing anything to gw1, you'll only hate yourself.
>started playing guildwars: nightfall aged 12
>somehow unbelievably excited about it from the moment I got it from the box alone
>I will never be as autistically emersed with a game as I was then
>spent up to 12 hours per day playing it
>felt genuine warmth and excitement
tfw I will never feel that from a game or anything ever again as I get older
I don't want to replay it. I don't want to ruin it for myself.
>4 warrior team in AB
>i'm running warriors endurance healer
>kurzick scum complaining that they can't kill us and a warrior healer is stupid and that I should get a real build
>laughing the entire time
this game had too many feels to count, i miss it so much. Monks for life
>Rurik still manages to believe there's a legitimate threat to what remained of Ascalon
There was, ever been to the North of Ascalon in the EotN parts? There's a fuckload of them there.
You also saw more death because during your Shiverpeak trek you were with the people, before the Shiverpeak trek you were pretty much a Spec Ops. unit operating behind enemy lines. No Ascalonians to see there.
You do have a point, the Black Vanguard still operating during EotN did imply that Ascalon held out all that time, but the degree to which it did and the state it was in was left vague.
>Remember all those times we were dying and I was the only one left standing but I used my signet on Alesia instead of you only to have her die while attempting to restore Lina's life? Yeah, good times. Good times.
I think there is too much GW2 hate here. Sure, it aint as memorable as GW1 but still, it aint BAD.
I still like to play it. Also fuck yeah this song:
But I would like to have an update for music. I'm so tired hearing the same songs all the time.
As a boy I spent much time in these lands. Look at them now.
Instead of ponds and streams we have pools of bubbling tar and rivers of sludge. It saddens me to see Ascalon in ruins.
stop. please. the emotions are too much.
>Creating my necro for the first time
>killing an enemy and creating a minion out of it.
>me and my minion bro go out and kill another enemy
>summon another minionbro
goood damnit. no game will ever come close to guild wars 1 in terms of....everything, man. seriously.
That fucking Varesh, goddamn. Now there was a good villain, unlike Scarlet.
The advantages of Guild Wars stem from it being less like an MMO and more like ... something else. You can play it like an MMO but it's hard to have fun doing that.
GW2 is less like something else than GW1, and at its core is further into the shittiest genre in existence.
I know that feel too well.
I kept a character in pre-searing just so that I can roam around and get some nostalgic feels. I do that at least once a year.
>mfw this is what guild wars looke like 10 years ago
>mfw it's better than league of legends today
>mfw it's better than world of warcraft today
fuck arenanet for gw2
bunch of idiots
All the things you do for him and then he backstabs you ;_;
>using all those verata skills to try and amass as big a minion army as possible
>rape everything in PvE
>they introduce a minion cap
that was the first time i really hated Anet
>tfw you'll never meet another Seer or Mursaat in gw2
>tfw you'll never again see the jade sea or the beauty of cantha/elona in gw2
Two years since release and we have almost nothing to show for it. By this time gw1 already had two full campaigns on top of the base game.
>try to reset password
>email email@example.com as instructed on their website
>1 hour later get this
>fill out the support form the way they wanted
>it's been 2 days with no response at all
So I just logged in, not many people left. Just veterans, and Winterstay in July starts this thursday.
>tfw hammers can't deeps in pve anymore
>ritualists aren't a thing anymore
>paragon and ranger never got a revamp like promised
>luxon and kurzicks are no more
>joko fucked over all of elona but we'll never fix his mess
I still think the Lich was the best villain considering how intimately involved he was with manipulating the heroes throughout. Varesh was like Randall Flagg or Giygas - no one else really makes contact with her at all except Morgahn and Bayel and her character is stagnant and uninteresting throughout her transformation. The God of Madness was more suited to the role she played in the campaign.
Shiro gets a free pass because of how unintentionally hilarious every single scene he's in is.
Varesh and Great Destroyer just don't measure up.
Prophecies is kind of a chore, but it was all we had back in the day. I kind of appreciate how it tried to pace you all the way through level 20, compared to something like Factions.
I still hate doing those two goddamn quests to get your last 30 skill points on Prophecies characters.
>be level 20 necro pre-minion cap
>take low levels outside destroyed ascalon city
>get ~25 minions up and surrounding us
>about to complete a quest
>i leave the zone, allowing my minions to become hostile and wipe the level 4 baddies.
Earthshaker and dwarven battle stance would like a word with you. Earthshaker was almost always a core pve build. Not necessarily for speed runs like HB, but it was always awesome.
Anyway, I'm just mad that hammers suck so much for pve in gw2. Its all about those stupid greatswords now, so fucking boring.
I-I actually like cripple Asura, norn and charr... and I don't really have any feelings for lesbian couple.
Hell, at least that group is good, unlike Rytlock and four others always fucking fighting.
This is why I laugh when LoLfags complain about Morello. Knowing an MOBA is shit by whether Morello's involved is as easy as knowing a game is good by whether Dustin Browder's involved.
>Let's just hope he will have a big part when/if he comes.
It will be an area boss you zerg and stand around autoattacking while avoiding red circles to see a cutscene of two carpet munchers waltz over him with your character being mute somewhere in the distance.
Is that what you want?
Jesus you gw1 won't shut up about GW1.
past 3 fucking days. It's still alive. Go play it. Oh wait, it's on maintenance mode and no one plays it anymore.
Hey I'll admit the asura and norn and charr are growing on me but the fucking lesbians are driving me nuts, I mean we know their lesbians you don't need to remind me with every word out of their mouth
Well that's just like, your opinions man.
Kinda agree on Gwen though, her character was rather obtuse in the campaign itself. They should have had her hatred being a boiling cauldron within rather than a gushing one.
I'm trying to get more titles on GW1, anyone have spare cash, vambraces etc to give?
IGN is King Mekkatorque
>People have been known to survive ariplane crashes
>Humans are made resilient!
the airship then crashes so hard into south america it opens a rift to the underworld and blast is so massive the /pol/ guy on ayers rock still sees it and then you realize that you will never hear Royds awesome theme again.
I get the feeling you're talking about pvp.
Every weapon could dps for warrior, even hammer. Axe, hammer, and sword all had at least one meta build and every single one did good dps. Axe was all about deep wound and aoe, hammer was all about knockdowns and aoe, sword was simply aoe damage.
Axe was mostly a pvp thing, for spike teams. Hammer was always ok if only for the knockdowns. I always preferred dragonslash for pvp though, hammer was my pve thing.
>mfw in beta
He's specifically talking about hammers being good for DPS. They aren't and never have been. They are about crowd control. And deep wound is easily the best condition in game to apply, it's essentially a free 100 extra damage on top of whatever attack you did. And axe could spam that shit for days, and then you have carp like cyclone axe and triple chop.
The only thing that can compare is hundred blades in very specific situations.
You now hear the music in your head and the sound effects
If I had the money, I'd hire people just to play and fill the GW world again ;_;
I actually cried when The best is yet to come started to play in MGS4 and I saw Shadow Moses base. It had been 10 years since I played MGS1 last time because I was fucking idiot and sold the game.
>they literally added in a speed limit to flag carriers because they were going too fast
The only TRUE term is Dota-clone, but LoLfags get terminally assblasted about it and prefer to be called ASSFAGGOTS than be associated with
>literally the same fucking thing but with different skins
>yfw Ascalon was destroyed
They forgot what Tribes was, and always has been about.
>Your face when Charr are the good games in GW2
Never forget Ascalon
Warriors could dps with any weapon, even daggers if they really wanted to. I remember when they revamped a bunch of hammer skills, they felt wonky at first but it actually made it a great dps weapon. It also had a fairly spammable aoe deep wound, axe was single target deep wound iirc.
Either way, whoever said sword was the best dps was right. It didn't have the utility of axe or hammer, but sword was the typical speed clear weapon. That does not mean that hammer was low dps though, I have no idea what you're on about there, hammer was always part of the pve meta for warriors and it was *just* for KD's, it also dealt good aoe damage.
>tfw we'll never get to dish out some REAL vengeance to the furry scum
GW2 and its "Charr did nothing wrong :^)" can go fuck itself.
>about going to sleep
>well lets quickly browse /v/ before
>have to cry myself to sleep now
>tfw i will never ever enjoy any mmorpg after this
I only started playing GW a month ago for the first time when a friend got it for me for birthday.
He's been playing since the release and still wants to coop all the campaigns with me.
But how do I get into the roleplaying and questing? Apart from the bigger missions, quests just feel like running pointless errands.
I really want to start enjoying this more, any tips?
I don't understand why they felt the need to change all the edges of the map to coastline. I remember when I used to play in middle school, places like Sophanem and the Feldip Hills and Mor'ton felt like the very edge of civilization, and made exploring and getting to those areas fun, because they were right up against the black abyss that was the edge of the map. Plus, Jagex could add new areas by dropping where the that edge was.
The game doesn't have any of that anymore it looks like, and now to add more areas, it looks like they just keep adding more islands which is makes the world map look retarded.
>literally two piss-poor AoE attacks on Axe
>heavily energy dependent except it's a fucking Warrior with 20 energy
Meanwhile, with swords
>unlimited DPS adrenaline restoring Elite skills everywhere
>also bleeding and deep wound like a bloody cherry on top
It's like /pol/s notion of Jews were real, they're dicks
>Everyone sucking Charr dick
>Oh my God how could you Ghost Nuke Ascalon?
>Ascalon belongs to the Charr long before the humans
>Who cares they tried to genocide and enslave everyone around them
>Who cares they worshipped two false gods entirely for power
>Who cares they fucked up and humans had to clear up the mess every fucking time
>They fucking Nuked Ascalon to fucking with the Ascalonians, cutting their nose off to spite their face
>They are the smartest most advanced race in GW2
I am crying
Fucking Arenanet ruined Guild Wars
This might be small thing or something that you guys don't care about at all, but I loved how in GW1 every "bigger enemy" was named and might have some kind of history and fought differently than others.. Now everyone is just Veteran or Champion.
It was the best spiking weapon in pvp, nobody is arguing with you there.
Pve is another thing entirely, sword was king in pve, axe and hammer were both a slight step below it. All three did good damage, but sword was the most consistent.
>My experience with GW began with factions
>This is one of the more resounding themes for me now
I still have the double-sided poster with the Assassin purple-haired grill on one side, and the Ritualist grill on the other one lying around somewhere.
This is what SE wrother after the death of the first version of FFXIV.
Guess what Anet are doing with Guild Wars 2.
They all had the same classes and skills you had too, and I especially loved how they were all several levels higher than the level 20 cap you had forcing you to work in a group for 90% of the game.
Yeah, well Germany also doesn't go all "Yeah we were totally right to have invaded you all, fucked over several nations and herded you off to slavery and sacrifice to our back then Gods. Who we worshipped fanatically but now look down on YOUR Gods"
Not to mention how Charr technological level doesn't make any sense at all, not to mention how Kryta and especially fucking Ascalonian remnants didn't organise their armies to attack the vermin on sight.
Kryta hates the charr, remember they were fighting them and nearly lost were it not for Saul sealing a pact with Mursaat for a last minute turn of tides.
This. I would seriously just like to relive that experience of getting into the game for the first time, seeing people frolic around inside the safe walls of still intact Ascalon... fuck ;_;
There's quite a few named enemies in the dynamic events. It's just "veteran" or "champion" regular enemies on the field in GW2.
In GW1 areas are instanced so they can ownly fought once per visit. Whereas the same thing would be weird in GW2 as you would have the literally same named Boss constantly respawning every couple minutes.
Did the Kurzicks ever gain significant land from the Luxons? Or was everything we did for nothing?
OP here again I am truly sorry anons, please forgive me
This was before or after the big Hammers update?
I always used Warrior's Endurance on my warrior and raped with an Axe, because Swords always seemed weak. What's a good Sword build?
No. The Anet devs are believing they are pushing out a good product. Why change when they already sold 3,5million copies of the game in the west and a 2-3 millions in China. Post 2008 Anet is fucking cancer.
>Did the Kurzicks ever gain significant land from the Luxons? Or was everything we did for nothing?
They signed a peace treaty , then the army of the Emperor massacred both sides.
Oh, well fuck them.
And you for getting my hopes up for a brief moment.
>Original Devs are making a Zombie MMO
I just don't know anymore
>tfw I will never enjoy a game as much as I played GW
>tfw when me and my two brothers played this game as a team every single day for countless days
>tfw we have all moved out long ago and will never bond over something like GW ever again.
Its goes way deeper than the game OP.
If I remember they revealed a bit about the change in the non-Tyria areas between GW1 and GW2 a bit befor GW2's release. Cantha's new emperor forced the Kurzicks and Luxons to be part of the empire.
So technically for nothing because they're now part of the same side.
It's a thing easily overlooked but gives the world a lot of authenticity.
Some bosses (most Air Eles) were so fucking dangerous their infamy even spread among the players making them well known by Name.
And of course Maw, the Mountain Heart, what a legend.
>Tyria could have been a massive world to explore
>more expansions could have added more lands with distinct themes and culture like Elona and Cantha
>think of all the adventuran and exploran and all that lore we missed out on
>it never happened because fucking Guild Wars 2
>this whole time in and GW2 still hasn't reintroduced Cantha and Elona in expansion pack form yet, let alone introduced new continents
>kill your false gods
>somehow enlightens the whole race to stop wearing loincloths and start developing tanks, rifles, and printing presses
>the Charr literally invented Tyria's common written and spoken language that everyone speaks now
Fuck you EA. Fuck you for killing not just Westwood, but everything C&C related.
It's still a couple of steps ahead of most modern western fantasy games. It atleast they saw fit to remove the Dwarves beforehand and there's no Orcs in sight and no Elves(though the original Sylvari were dangerously close to this).
yeah thats true, but wasnt the first guild wars primarily the flame legion, which the gw2 charr loathe completely? So they hate previous charr just as much. They just fight the ghosts because they live there
>Who should I join
>These Kurzick guys have pretty cool armor and live in a spooky forest
>These Luxon guys have Giant Turtles with catapults on their backs
I mean how is that even a choice?
Hundred blades was the main sword skill for pve, I don't have the build though since I don't even have gw1 installed. I want to say it needed a necro to really shine but I can't remember why exactly. I felt the same as you, sword was objectively the best but it just felt weak to me.
I'm sure pvx is still around, google pvx wiki and look up the old meta builds. That should give you some ideas of what works best. Don't just copy paste builds without looking at why shit is used though. There really is no good or bad weapon, just use what you find fun.
All those awesome memories
>Anon's team has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes..."
>getting my q9 crystalline sword from the chest
>SB Monking like crazy
Reminder that instead of another campaign all we got was half-assed expasion because anet started developing GW2
>No one's left
>Kharak is burning
>half assed expansion
I l-liked eotn, title grind aside. Northern shiverpeaks was cool, with these crazy huge norn turning into bears and shit. Bearform in gw2 was so disappointing, you can't even wield a weapon.
>Running AB on mesmer
>take Power Block
>some elementalist keeps trying to kill me like a faggot
>does he not know who I am
>I'm a fucking mesmer
>"STOP POWER BLOCKING ME!!!!"
>Running RA on my mesmer
>My build was always Ether Feast/Plague Sending, Power Drain, Signet of Midnight, Empathy, Diversion, Guilt, Backfire, Signet of Resurrection
>Assassin on enemy team
>Signet of Midnight
>Signet of Midnight
>Signet of Midnight
>Signet of Midnight
>"STOP BLINDING ME!"
>Signet of Midnight
>Running FA on my mesmer
>Decide to be a complete ass and run a build focused on nothing but Diversion spam
>Main skills were Mantra of Recovery, Arcane Echo, and Diversion with some healing/energy management thrown in
>not a single offensive spell
>disable over half of some monk's entire bar
>"Nice build, I couldn't do a thing"
I miss my mesmer so much ;-;
I remember what she looked like exactly. The Factions headset with the bow in the hair, Ebon Vanguard armor dyed the same color as the mesmer skills, a fiery gladius and amethyst aegis as her main weapon set.
Also, if anyone is here from that attempt sometime within the last six months or so (I think) to try to get a /v/ (or /vg/, I don't remember which board it was) guild going and remembers me, I was that Zebra Oracle guy. Just wanted to apologize for vanishing on you guys
Felt bad man ;~;
20 somethings are experiencing their first MMO nostalgia, which is Guild Wars 1 in this case. (also see: muh vanilla WoW, muh RO)
When they get old enough they'll see there's no more wonder left in the world. No MMO is ever good. They'll probably commit sudoku.
In 7-8 years you'll see this shit with GW2 and WoW Panda shit.
I could handle the peace treaty if it had been some kind of hard-won victory or something. But instead it was just "Uh oh, spoopy dragons appeared. Let's all hold hands and start hugging even though we hated each others' guts five minutes ago."
Thats it. I was thinking it was an emotional thing. I gotten used to that shit by now. RE series peaked at 4. Arkham City was way simpler than Arkham Asylum. That stuff happens with franchises nowadays.
RE will never be the same :'(
Back then everyone was Flame Legion or kneeling before the Flame Legion which is the same thing. And it was the Charr that caused the ghosts in the first place (Adelbern's sword yadda yadda, wouldn't have happened without the Searing), not to mention how much disrespect they have for said ghosts if you listen to the dialogues in GW2 Ascalon region.
I liked Pyreshot mind you, they should have taken the Charr in that direction: A small group of Charr that just want to be left alone. Instead they made them a mega civilisation with everyone sucking their technological dick.
I played it just for fun with my guildies sometimes.
Our main build was mainly RSpike , IV (back when it worked) and Balanced
It wasn't hand holding and hugging. The emperor fucking slaughtered both of them.
It's like here's Germany and France duking it out, and then Russia just waltzes in and kills them all.
Mesmer faggot from >>254418803
here. I didn't get that feel too often since I built my RA skill set to shutdown everything. It's amazing how well empathy can handle melee players, backfire scares the crap out of casters, and LOL DIVERSION FOR EVERYTHING. Interrupt ranger? Cancel cast signet of midnight to get them to waste disrupting shot and savage shot then blind them, interrupt the inevitable mending touch (or diversion it if possible for maximum keks), and OH MY WORD IF A WARRIOR DARES TO USE FRENZY dat 110 empathy damage every half second.
>I don't really get the deal with this game.
I tried it recently(again) and it feels pretty lacking in several places.
Can you even walk or jump in this game?
>implying this deserves a response
>implying we have to explain the magic and glory of Guild Wars to someone who played it last week for a total of 10 minutes
>Implying "its lacking" is a legitimate complaint
