What bothers me is that it won't sell anything at all, just like W101. I hope this doesn't fuck up things for Platinum in the long run with other publishers.
I just finished the first one 5 minutes ago, Normal mode. Is there anything worth exploring now besides upping the difficulty to hard?
Platinum are fucking magicians at squeezing out power from underpowered hardware. Coupled with Nintendo's inhouse tools and engineers at their disposal they will make Bayo2 look fucking amazing.
I really don't understand how Platinum game's look so good. Might not be technically impressive as they're smart enough to confine themselves to smaller stages, but every single thing looks so fucking polished.

It's the polish and art direction. 60FPS gameplay and colorful visual (even in their blandest games) makes everything look great.
MGR isn't a beast when it comes to TECHNOLOGY, but it's smooth animations and combat just puts it ahead of other action games from last year. Could even run this way on consoles, and that's embarrassing to modern devs.
If I was making this scene and trying to find an excuse to make it look cool like that I'd say that there's some sort of danger above that will stop anyone from crossing the water if it sees them. So the kid makes the tunnel of water so the thing, whatever it is, can't see her cross.
am i missing something? i thought she just needed something to dodge and activate witch time, so she needed the water to actually cross ? or hell, i cant remember if she can activate it at any time
Which is something that Bayonetta isn't ironically. Even the 360 (And the WiiU as well, judging from the Treehouse footage) suffers from regular framedrops if there's too much shit on-screen. I agree with everything else, though. Love the world of Bayonetta despite how ridiculous the characters look and how dumb the plot is.
I hope they don't repeat the same shit with 2 when it comes to fps though.

Platinum doesn't give a shit to pander to some blogger who has a weekend to finish a game review.
Games since 2005/6 have been developed to be as pain-free and skill-free as possible to garner favor with those kind of people. It's no longer about making a mechanically interesting game, but to make shit explode and make the player feel awesome for doing nothing.
Every once in a while a game like MGR comes along that requires some trial and error, timing and skill to progress. This frustrates journos who have grown accustomed to 'button-->Awesome' and instead of apply themselves and getting more into the game, they either stop and give it a shitty score, or lowers the difficulty to baby-mode and pans the game for being 'too frustrating'
Sega handled the PS3 port of Bayo 1.
Bayo on the 360 was specifically tailored to that hardware and it shows.
They ported it without Platinum's consent and it brought them 'shamefurr dispray'.
They redeemed themselves in Vanquish, which is pretty much the same on both platforms.
Those framedrop in Bayo1 keeps me from putting it above the DMC game for me (and other nit-picky problems). I destroy the framerate when in combat, especially in repeat playthroughs where I have all of my stylish moves unlocked.
If there was an option to get rid of some of the extra effects spewing across the screen, I think that would've helped.

Funniest thing is, MGR isn't really that hard either. You'll have some problems in Very Hard and possibly Revengeance (if you haven't gotten perfect parrying down), but Normal and Hard were fairly cakewalk.

She can only run across the water in Witch Time, the first Bayonetta had similar little puzzles where you had to dodge something to activate Witch Time and freeze water into platforms.

W101 is an all around amazing game, first time in a long time a game's managed to get genuine smiles out of me
I was very disappointed with MGR's difficulty, I'm not really very good at video games but Normal Mode was such a fucking cakewalk. The only real hard time I had with it was Senator Armstrong, but it was mostly because of those cutting segments. Wish someone told me to start it in Hard mode in the first playthrough.

That's what I'm slowly starting to realize, Normal mode is the old Easy mode. Sad thing is, and I still don't fucking understand why they do this in games, Hard mode is usually locked in the first playthrough.
I think most of us would have given up on the game if Very Hard was released as Normal.

Its to make people feel better about themselves and make the game more accessible. They still give us "hardcore fans" what we want with hard and difficulties like Master Ninja, but they also realize that they need to draw in more people so they make normal easier rather than making fun of you by having you start on easy if you're terrible.

really fun.Takes a bit to get used to, but once you've gotten the grand scheme of things down it's absolutely sublime. The boss fights are inferior to Bayonetta's in my opinion, especially the last one.
Not a fan of Smash and I didn't like Xenoblade Chronicles, but I'm still open to the new game and will wait and see if it's better. Better to just wait for more games to pile in.
they really call even easier mode normal and make it default. it's the casuals they want to rope in and they're the ones they have the hardest time convincing. if someone can't finish a game the chance of them buying a sequel is practically zero.

Yeah, I did the mistake of buying a PS3 early and it took 4/5 years before it started shelling out "worth it" titles. (I've honestly started playing my PS3 a lot more often than my 360 nowadays)
Now I'm avoiding being an early adopted.
I think I only still own 10 Wii games. The rest have been digital older games (that I could've emulated, but didn't give a shit), and some Gamecube games I managed to recover from friends that were about to sell them.
I'm hoping there's more boss battles against enemies that aren't just screen-filling masses. I honestly like more 1v1/2/3 fights against opponents my size (if not a bit bigger).

Didn't you get the memo? Almost nothing interesting is happening this year, everything has been pushed back to 2015. This includes the first real gameplay footage of everything from Battlefront 3 to Mirror's Edge 2 to Scalebound.
I wish more devs would do that. It's nice that Sonic unleashed on ps3 runs at 60 but if it has framedrops, it's really noticeable. Especially if you are playing as the werehog due to it being slower so any speed drops are even more noticeable.

Honestly I don't see vs modes ever working in games like DMC or Bayonetta. Ninja Gaiden tried it and it was terrible. Not sure how god of war's multiplayer is (will be? Did it come out?), but never been that impressed with god of war's engine anyway.

Bayonetta and DMC are both designed to dodge and then go offensive immediately afterwards. This means that the attacker will always be at the disadvantage if their opponent manages to dodge them. Ranged attacks are also rather overpowered in these games because they're harder to dodge since the animation for the attack and the connection of the attack happen at about the same time. This means that gunslingers would have the supreme advantage in DMC.
In Bayonetta, the game has a heavy focus on witch time. Bullet time almost never works well in multiplayer games, and if they somehow managed to get witch time to work simply because it's a 1v1, then again there is NO motivation to attack because your opponent will immediately dodge it and then you're helpless.

Well the first one that springs to mind is one I found on thursday. Karmen Karma-Keep it in the family. It's on xvideos, and it's western so you're probably going to stick your nose up at it but it's got some nice dominate female stuff without the pegging or whatever that you're terrified of.

Anyway, great gameplay video. The twin swords are practically a reskin of Shuraba since its moveset in that practice room is pretty much the same. It has the same attacks but with different animations, it's cool. They're trying to show even the old stuff with a slightly newer look.
They talked about this before but seeing it gives a much better impression, the fact that we can use our regular moveset after picking up an Angel Arm is really useful. That means I don't have to pick it up only when I want to use it.

I don't see much appeal in fighting the same enemies with someone but just with slightly more health/damage, or whatever. the main draw of playing with others is that you can get more challenge than from a predictable AI. just my two cents anyway.

Because designing netcode around a hack n slash game would be hell as it is (I guess Anarchy Reigns did it, but it's not as fast paced as Bayonetta). Plus Bayo 2 will likely be populated with a small worldwide playerbase, so you have to account for network connections and latency.
But then also coop is just more in tune with the essence of the game - stylish, sadistic combat. What better way to expand upon that concept than with two players dominating and juggling enemies between them?
i think co-op was their solution to farming halos for weapons/accesories without it being boring as fuck
Oops forgot to add that developers can be more forgiving with the netcode for online coop games than competetive ones, because lag compensation can result in some bullshit on both ends. That's basically what I was getting at.

I played this at the Nintendo Event when it started. I haven't had this much fun and excitement playing a videogame in years. Everything is refined to perfection. The controls, the combos, the umbra climax, the enemies, the boss battle was fucking amazing. I was smiling.

W101 has made me run the gamut of emotion. It's truly a great game, but it can be so obtuse with some mechanics that it takes awhile to appreciate it. Basically, you have to git gud first.

Ill be honest. I fucking HATE bayonetta.Not the games but the actual character. Her design is just so...stupid looking. That fucking hair and voice are probably the most irritating of all. I know she gives off this "female power" vibe but I feel that she is just too overly sexual in like...everything. "yes, you are sexy, we fucking get it now quit spreading your legs at every combat opportunity". I dont mind that people want their characters to use some sexy moves here and there, but when thats your entire thing, your entire fucking look its just too much. It feels forced. I just really fucking hate this character, and I would rather them put in...ANYONE ELSE in the game. CD Projekt said something similar about over sexualization. In marketing, sex does not sell. You use it to catch the eye and let it hold the attention while you try to sell the actual product. The rest of the game is good, but this character pretty much ruins the entire game for me.
The thing that bugs me most is that now she has short hair, so instead of imagining that her coming off her head, flowing down and wrapping around her to become her clothes, then back up into the beehive, it's just like... body hair? Pubes? Her head hair isn't connected to her clothes any more, so it's kind of fucked up.
I doubt a demo is coming. W101 got nothing but shit for it because casuals cant do games. Bayonetta doesn't have the drawing mechanic people inexplicably couldn't use but it isn't for scrubs.

Bayo's textures and lighting are terrible. Vanquish was running at fucking 1024x768 resolution and at 30fps. MGR I don't even need to explain.

A vs. mode in DMC would be an awful idea. You'd never be able to even touch top-level players because they'd just royal guard everything then catch you in an infinite air combo.
In the way that you're running through a level and then suddenly out of nowhere press X to not die, too bad you died now that affects your score at the end of the level. You basically have to be aware that QTEs are coming up or your score is gonna suck at the end of the level. Its not like you lose more than a minute of progress either. So more than just tedious, its detrimental.

Smoother maybe, but that doesn't mean better. 30 fps looks more cinematic and carries more weight.
But it isn't. Smoother does not linearly correlate with better, and 60fps makes things have less impact and weight. This is why The Hobbit looked underwhelming and jarring in 48fps and was changed to 24. 30fps is closer to the 24fps used in cinema and carries more weight. It looks better aesthetically.
Unless the game is a multiplayer game with very intensive frame based interactions such as SF4's "plinking" 60fps is largely superfluous and in my opinion not worth the worse visuals. 60 fps also means you have to sacrifice graphical fidelity elsewhere.
PC has more features, like a boss rush. It performs better too, you won't have things like this happening.

What's important for gameplay is mechanics, not halving the response of button inputs.
But what if the mechanics are built for fast-paced, reflexive gameplay? Then you obviously go with the faster framerate. Look at arena shooters and action games like Unreal and DMC4 respectively

Faster, more fluid, more combo options, more hype, enemies are more aggressive and work together like a team, better visuals.
Magic burns a lot easier (bullet climax/360 attacks in general consume pearls), beast withing works slightly different (although you can still use panther offset) so spamming panther+dodge to gain time/pearls is off the question.
