Because the game has too much stuff in it that makes fights totally one sided. Between massive damage from backstabbing and stupid ripostes (via painting daggers) to retard strength spells and weapons that hit for stupid amounts in a single hit or even worse, in combos that you can't escape from because of 1 hit poise breaking. And that's not even accounting for horrible netcode and inconsistent hitboxes. On top of that, a lot of the "fun" weapons like Greatbows are so weak they aren't worth using except in very specific circumstances even further enforcing meta. Because that's what games are now, they are meta simulators.
>Dark Souls areas flow naturally into each other and create a sense that you are exploring one vast fantasy world >Dark Souls 2 areas are stacked illogically on top of each other, have weird/illogical geometry, and creates problems for the player more than it should
Forget the PvP, the game itself is drastically flawed. I tried for a long time to like it and gave up, though I am jealous of those who actually got their money's worth out of it.
>>255362434 So you can make dedicated characters for invading or co-op, without having your SM inflated too much after a few boss fights. Having it somewhere after the four lord bosses would be ideal, to prevent the twinking everyone was so upset about in the first place
>>255362491 There is and you can equip it all in the same build, not that builds are even a thing anymore if you are a "serious PvPer" because you can just go to max level, take weapon upgrades that add damage for each equal stat (aka 99 everything) and wreck the face of people who didn't level up at the same soul memory as you. Variety and having a viable anything do not mix.
>>255363438 The point is mainly for co-op, but you seem to stupid to figure that out from the original post, so I won't bother explaining it to you any further. I know this is an image board, but some basic reading ability is strongly recommended.
>>255362050 >Implying I've even played dark souls 2 yet >Implying I didn't painting guardian pvp 24/7 and love every minte of getting my ass handed to me because lolnopoise, lolnodamage, lolnorange, and lolnopoisebreak.
>>255360992 Short answer is that its just poorly executed and balanced.
Long answer. A lot of it has to do with the roll hit boxes on players. Theres a lagging hit box on rolls that can be hit and/or grabbed into a backstab. Its been there since Demon Souls, and is only now really noticeable because of theres less I-frames in Dark Souls 2. So, because of how easy it is to grab someone into a backstab, and the enormous damage from it, you get a meta that likes to fish for this rather than poking or doing something like a neutral/footsies game in a fighter.
Then theres damage, all damage is enormously fuck large. Especially from spells, but its from all weapons.
Finally you've got a community of shit heels that think that PVP is legit form of competition. It's not, being good at pvp in Souls game is simply being good at a broken system.
>>255360992 Because invading in NG sucks with the way farming for orbs and Soul Memory works. Eventually you end up so disadvantaged because you're fighting people who have far more game progress than you and have access to all the perks that entails.
NG+ is ok at first but quickly sucks dick when your SM shoots up to the point where nearly everyone is adding more levels so they can run around in full Havels spamming high level magic.
>Soul memory gets put in to combat twinking >Something that was barely a problem in the first place >Fucks with the multiplayer mechanics in a bad way, and fucks over people trying to play the game >Meanwhile, anyone who actually wants to twink just uses a save editor/mule/whatever and bypasses the system anyways
On another note, does arena fights still have no level restrictions?
It almost never feels satisfying when you beat someone in pvp. It's like just unloading gimmicks at someone and whoever's works first is done. Theres no come back or recovery. Its like a less balanced rock paper scissors
>>255365026 keep clinging on to your pointless meta, there is absolutely no reason not to level up indefinitely unless you're a "muh meta" faggot nerd please don't come whining and crying about "overleveling babies" just because everyone and their moms is beating your SL150 faggot ass down
PVP in DS and DS2 should be designed around annoying someone by invading them while they're trying to get things done. the mlg 360 shit just sucks but it's not what the pvp is designed for anyway. it's supposed to add another layer of danger to the game, you can be invaded any time! it shouldn't be soul memory/NG+ only for the sake of esports
>>255362907 Even if bloodbros got a full red eye they would have to make it so that one successful invasion gives you sin. I think it takes like five to get one point of that shit and once a bluefag kills you your back to square one., Invasions all around and everyone is happy. And if they aren't, fuck em. Thats what the meek covenant is for, is would be perfect.
>>255364196 Literally what is the purpose of having such a high level character for PvP? You can dish out massive damage with a character under 150. The only reason for such a high level is if you want many different builds on one character but soul vessel makes that redundant.
>>255360992 learn to use jump attacks and guard break bashes or learn to hit someone with not parryable attacks or just outplay your opponent the things that really need fixing are the netcode (never happening) and matching people with bad pings to eachother/completely disabled cross-region play most other things dont matter
Because its not suppost to be balanced or competitive. Its like D2 PVP which was bananas.
People get some sense of honor though and all this other bullshit then get upset when they lose, even though, the whole point of pvp is using all you can to kill the other person because only the end result matters, not how you got there.
Since I know it's a guy at around my level, unless I was an idiot and didn't spend my souls on the right thing (read: adp, weapon upgrades). By the point I start getting invaded by Havelbabies, I've already played through the game to the point where I -only- want to pvp. The tension of possibly not making it to the next bonfire disappears.
Soul Memory ruined a big part of what made getting invaded interesting.
>>255366162 what is the purpose of not having such a high level character for PvP? there is absolutely no reason to not level up as much as possible to keep up with the others and you can still gimp yourself adequately if you absolutey want to do honorable duels with the 150/200/300 fags or whatever the "new meta" right now is I do that
>>255366271 Somewhere along the line people forgot that pvp is an afterthought in the souls series. Its not supposed to be honorable, or fair. You are supposed to kick and scream and throw dirt in faces to win.
If you have your own honor-code, go for it. Just don't bitch when you get beaten by people cheesing the game. That shit happens in literally every single competative game out there. Nothing but mix/max tryhards.
>>255366162 because I can? It's not like it changes anything with the diminitive returns, and as you said it makes it so i don't have to change characters or make new builds, i can just choose my new "loadout" so to speak
>>255366271 >the whole point of pvp is using all you can to kill the other person because only the end result matters, not how you got there. I've seen people use this line of logic to justify a wide range of cheating, from simple SL manipulation to full-on infinite health instant-curse shit
>>255366526 Only reason Dark 2 isn't scary when you get invaded is cause it never fucking happens. If they made an infinite red-orb obtainable early on to nearly everyone this game would be so much fucking better it would be silly.
PvP everywhere, you can't hollow out and get a pass, you can't beat a boss and be ok. Your ass is on the menu until you spend an extremely useful consumable.
>>255366561 Yeah this is pretty much what I do, I bow and if they charge its whatever. Lately though I have said fuck it because orbs are rare. Got my first hate mail a little while ago...it kinda felt good
>>255366867 That isn't a solution to the problem. That should be a thing that exists on NG. Having to play through the entire game to get any amount of pvp is bullshit. Especially when they implemented a "good" system for keeping it fair.
>>255366789 Would seem like fun at first but if the whole game was nothing but Belfry Luna and Sol then it would get fucking boring quick. Not to mention if you want to just get help to fight a cuntish boss and you keep getting people invading or trainer faggots wanting to fuck you over then seriously fuck that shit. Also they need to fucking fix the Blue Sentinels, they should not need to use a ring just make them have to use an item to announce their appearance in an area then go defend way of blue players. They also need a real blue eye orb not those bullshit cracked ones that cost insane amounts of money.
>>255367138 I get what you're saying man, I do. If you want a test of skills, play another game.
But what is awesome about Souls PvP is that it is -supposed- to be an interruption to the story and part of the narrative. Lorefaggotry aside though, it's one of the few games that offer a chance at 1v1 medieval fantasy combat in a 3d environment. There are few games that offer that opportunity. Which is why we get buttsundered if our only grab at that opportunity is, frankly, shit.
There aren't many games where you can customize your character's appearance, armour and weapons and then fight in many different locations that offer terrain that can be used to one's advantage.
Name one and I will drop this buggy, unbalanced mess for it in a new york minute.
>>255367406 Thats why there are measures to prevent that shit son. Invasion cooldown timers, Blues, how pathetically easy it is to boss-run. Burning effigiys to prevent that shit.
There are options man, I know the system in place has a pecking order in terms of invasions. Sinners-people with phantoms-human-hollows. PvP is part of the experience, between zero action and constant I would rather have constant .
DaS1 had the summoning phantoms thing, yeah, but that's the cost of invading. You run the risk of having to fight off more than one person in order to get what you want. Boohoo, you're the one invading this guy in the first place, he can do whatever he wants to survive.
I've rarely encountered a situation where I've had more than 2 hosts challenge the boss as soon as I invade within an hour of gameplay.
>Get completely naked >Flynn's Ring, RoB+2, Clutch Ring, Stone Ring >Sunlight blade >Dagger >Only summon havelfags and slow weapon users on the IK bridge >Literally just run at them and R1 over and over
I have no problem with the host trying to run back to a bonfire to summon people. What I have a Problem with is bonfires being a couple steps away at any given time, or the level is so short the host can just run to the boss before I spawn in.
>>255368067 Do the invasion cool downs proc for the invader or invaded?, because getting your ass kicked one after another like Sol and Luna is fair shit but if not then it works I guess. Easy to boss run?, you do know there are some bullshit bosses in the game like Ancient Dragon and Sinh who have a habit of just saying fuck you and insta-killing you, that combined with people invading you just to fuck you over can get annoying and might drive away players. There needs to be a balancing act of invasions and just leaving some people the fuck alone so they can make actual progress as apposed to just fucking around. Problem with the DS2 system of everyone must pvp is that it really promotes rampant cheating to a degree, many times ive blue invaded on the guilty just to see them nearly die and turn on inf hp so I cant kill them so I have to leave the dogs alone. From need to really crack down on cheating to make the online stuff more fun and some of the ideas like maybe putting in a red and blue eye orb in the dlc to find would be nice but in the end would that in turn make the trainer uses more rampant?. Id really just like to bodyguard people without using that shit ring and have them clean up the online code so I can fucking do what the sentinels are there for to help people who suck shit at pvp.
>>255368119 >>No BS fishing Are you playing the same game? It's still nothing but backstab fishing and rolling around each other trying to get dat backstabs.
>>Movesets actually matter Pick the fastest moveset with at least 30 poise break (katana) there you go.
>>Variety in playstyles There is no variety when everyone is 40 in everything and everyone is using the same copypaste build of hexes, avelyn, painting dagger, katana.
>>Magic is actually good Magic was crazy powerful in DaS1 you utter faggot, and it's even worse now. It's always been the scapegoat for bads.
>DaS1 had even less restriction on brackets. A level 60 could be paired with a level 700 Your 'source' is bullshit pal, it was proven long ago that DaS was 10SL's +10%, and only in forest PvP was there no upward limit.
Only runback that is shit is the ancient dragon, which you could burn for.
If you get invaded you get a cooldown until you can be invaded again, its generally long enough to full clear an area or make an attempt on a boss. Cheating happens, it ain't great but people are going to be assholes regardless of the game.
>>255368119 >No BS fishing Now it's parry fishing. Small improvement but not by much. Besides, backstab fishing was so easily punished.
>Movesets actually matter Great, fantastic. Except most weapons in the same tree have the same moveset with a few exceptions. It's less "Ok, do I want the weapon with a more varied moveset but less damage or do I want the opposite, more damage with less versatility?" and more "Well, they are both the same moveset wise, so I'll just go with the one that does more damage."
>Variety in playstyles Meta consists of full havel's, santier's spear, monastery scimitar, dual mundane avelyn's and great resonant soul.
Other build is naked with binoculars and a resonant dagger. Great variety there.
>Magic is actually good Hexes are actually broken. The rest is shit.
SL60 could only be paired up with a SL700 if the SL60 were the one invading. You don't have to worry about level 387 havel shitter ho ho hoing it's way into your world. This is fine, the risk of gross mismatches is in invading other worlds, not in simply playing in your own.
However, that's now possible both ways in DS2, as SM is the only thing that matters anymore. SL60 could be invaded by a SL700 simply if their SM level matched up. You might as well max out your level, wear the strongest armor, and just jump on every new meta bandwagon that comes out as adjustments are made.
>dlc announced >fucking really? they said there wouldn't be any not even 6 months ago >whatever, try it out anyways >mfw it's actually fucking good and fun >help co-op bosses for a while after I finish >try pvp out >remember why I fucking hate this game
