Basically, you get lucky and they're almost instantly excited to join you without you having to throw tons of macca, items, or sweet nothings at them. Of course, this still requires you to initiate negotiations with them in the first place.
I want to say there are also situations where demons will up and initiate a conversation with you on their own, sometimes ending in them joining you, but I don't have any specific enough examples or memories of it to say it definitely happens.

Have you run into situations where you successfully recruit a demon, but don't have any room left in your COMP/Party? I know in SMT IV if that happens, then the next time you talk to a demon of the same type they will recognize you and join you no questions asked, assuming you actually freed up a slot for it. If you don't have a slot the second time, then they'll go away and you basically blew it, meaning you'll have to recruit them normally next time.
Oh god yes. That just got me hyped for playing SMT II. Good thing the Aeon Genesis patch for that isn't all bugged up like the one for SMT I, which I still need to finish.

Yeah, I really love more biblical-styled angels, but, the archangels looked so fucking busy. There's a difference between otherworldly looking angels and just sticking shit wherever you can stick it.
Eh, I always took it as the archangels trying to force themselves to look more human and failing miserably at it. Like they don't really understand what it is to be human, you dig? Given the lawfag sentiments, it's a fitting choice. Plus, it gives Lilith a lot more depth to have her be the most human looking of all of them.

This is an opinion but a bad one, I think the samurai armor looks awesome, makes you look like a jedi (which you kind of are) as for flynn's hair isn't it supposed to be reminiscent of a samurai top-knot?.
There were actual dungeons, just because they weren't rooms upon rooms of squares at 90 degree angles doesn't mean they're not dungeons.

Demon redesigns weren't all awful but they stuck out way too much, they should have tried to keep close to the original style. Voice acting was fine, character design was fine except Flynn having paper hair, Walter being a skeleton from the neck down, and Johnathan having a weird face in some scenes. Dungeons though, domains were Tartarus levels of awful.
Thinking that IV's dungeons are anywhere near passable is a shitty opinion.
Note that this is the Japanese voicework they're complaining about, not what we got.
They were upset that Atlus just hired the same incredibly overused VAs that appear in everything ever, with no regard for whether said VAs actually fit the characters or not.

I just got it a month ago with my #ds, I've only done the Law route just now. I figured she would be part of the Neutral route or something. I actually thought she was the little girl grown up from the beginning of the game. I guess there's still a lot left to do for me.
Here's what I did.
>kept myself Neutral the whole time.
>checked with the guy at the bar after every story event with choices.
>skipped all the quests so they wouldn't affect affinity.
>chose Jonathan at the split.
>made all Chaos choices after that until the real route split.
>picked Law for the choice after beating Kenji.
I was honestly surprised I landed on Neutral the first time I tried for it.
Chaos is easy to fuck up if you like to spend a lot of time on sidequests.
I ended up trapped in Neutral, despite siding with Walter all game, just because I found too many relics.
Do you know what its gameplay is like? If not, look up some videos of it first.
Personally, I don't think it's worth $30, since I couldn't get over how repetitive and clunky the gameplay is.

To be honest, I think SMT4's dungeons are passable. SMT4 had a different approach than usual is all.
Compared to the other games where the overworld is just there to take you from Dungeon A to Dungeon B, the overworld felt more like an actual dungeon in SMT4. You had to search for ways to traverse it, explore the area for people and events that opened up new paths, just in general had to get around obstacles. The game was more about exploring Tokyo as a whole instead of exploring smaller dungeons.
That's probably why SMT4 didn't feel right in terms of dungeon design when you compare it to the other games. If the other games were more about going through and finding your way through smaller dungeons, SMT4 was more about casually finding out more about the world as you explore and find your way around the demon disaster known as Tokyo.
It really helps with the setting too. Tokyo is a world that went to shit and was overrun with demons. The more you explore, the more you realize the place has gone to hell. Broken down buildings, poison swamps covering places where tons of people would normally be traversing, having to band together in small underground bunkers(you even find a destroyed one overrun by demons), just general chaos to the point where people broke into factions. You find out more and more how the world has just gone to trash when you get further and further into Tokyo.
Something like that definitely wouldn't have been as easily conveyed if they went with the normal way of doing things.
The domains themselves were pretty bad since they were randomized though, yeah. They're tolerable though, I just wish they switched up the scenery in them.
Something that bothers me about Ose's SJ design is the balls at the tip of the sword. They look like something you wouldn't want on a sword as they make you unable to do stabbing attacks.
