How do I not suck balls at BG1?
As in, how do I play it and not die to 2 wolves while exploring the map with 6 people in my party?
Is there a mod for retards because I'm seriously thinking about getting it.
Just drop it to easy mode you scrub,or you go play icewind dale it's much easier

wands are limited, baldur's gate is very easy to break once you get a large amount of them in vanilla at least where you can spawn a million skeletons/cannon fodder animals, it's how I beat the last boss as a dumb kid
if you are having issues then try to grind a level or two at the ankheg farm, they give a large amount of experience and
avoid the fuck out of durlag's tower fuck that place seriously
if you want no frustrations then play it on easy
Otherwise you will always have to cheese your way through
If you can't kill stuff in a zone leave it and return later, you have to basically get to the cap to deal with most of the shit in the game

Fuck that fucking demon, he gave me more trouble than Sarevok. I had to buff my party up with every buff under the sun and cast a dozen fireballs to kill those fucking cultists, and even then I had to constantly retry over and over because he would cast that fucking death spell that would automatically kill you after a couple turns.

I managed to beat Sarevok relatively easily. I buffed my party up, summoned some monsters to get the mages to waste their spells on, then I lured Sarevok away from the rest of his allies and just gangbanged him into oblivion.
Just download the mods that Enhanced comes with. The only thing the EE has that you can't get normally is fanfaction tier companions.
I've beaten him head on once with giving minsc and ajantis every buff and potion in the world and letting them go to town while the rest of my party deals with the mages, but even then it's like 50/50 and if he crits a few times everybody dies
I heard it had a handful of bugs on release but they should have sent a patch out by now. Added some lame characters no one cares about, but changed nothing else as far as I know.
Anyone here ever played the Trilogy Mod? It combines Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and their expansions into one seamless game using the Throne of Bhaal engine. I've been playing it for the last couple months and it's pretty fucking neat, it's also nice being able to create boots of speed for your party so that you don't walk at a snail's pace for 300 hours.
Played it for a bit, it's not for the first time player. If you carry over party members from BG1 who aren't present in BG2 they basically have nothing to say the entire game, and party interaction is one of the most interesting features in that game.
I don't think you can carry over party members. I had Dyanheir and Khalid in my party in BG 1 and because they canonically died in Irenicus' dungeon they can't be found in the game.

Anyway, play a Ranger (ranged) or Swashbuckler (melee/backstab whore). Or multiclass an illusionist/fighter gnome for maximum carnage.
If you're a thief or a derivative, don't put any points above 100 into skills, it's a waste. You'll also only need detect illusion at the end of BG2, it's virtually useless in the first game.
I never play Baldur's Gate without the Trilogy mod anymore. I started with that and it just feels natural. There's really no reason to skip BG1, if you have that. Plus, your character is stronger if you played him through BG1.

While BG does have a better story (well a story) compared to Ice Wind Dale, I enjoyed IWD more. The towns were comfy as fuck and I enjoyed some of the class interaction.

Related question, I started playing Temple of Elemental Evil yesterday and its way harder than what I remember. I'm fucking stuck, I can't kill "the master" in the lower level of the moathouse, nor the giant on that old battlefield or the undead priest+guards triggered by looting some stone in the same area. Anywhere else I can go and exp up or am I just playing awful? I got a paladin, a cleric, a barbarian, a rouge and a wizard.

It's pretty difficult. What I did was to give everyone else bows, and have my fighters rush forward and tie up the bad guys.
The AI is kind of archaic, and controlling all six party members can be an exercise in frustration. There's a weird delay to spells; Sometimes, they just don't start casting. More, sometimes even with the AI chosen, they'll stand there and not defend themselves as people swing at them.
But yeah, a lot of projectile weapons. LOTS OF THEM. Even the Wizards and the Clerics should have Slings, just to take potshots. You never know when you get lucky.
(Khalid is a pretty good archer, and he doesn't panic when he's not in melee combat. In Cloakwood, you can meet the most awesome archer ever.)
It's hilariously hard to survive as a low-level Wizard in AD&D. You get one, maybe two spells a day, that usually can't kill someone unless you get lucky. Collateral damage can be even worse.
No wonder they get ridiculously powerful at high levels. Still, Baldur's Gate makes it particularly difficult to drop area-effect spells on targets, because they keep coming towards you. Better aim that Entangle (Which is fucking annoying), Web (which lasts FOREVER) and Lightning Bolt (Which will rebound so many times, it'll turn everyone you love into bloody confetti) carefully.
When i played BGEE i used shadowkeper to slightly modify the movement speed of characters in game and somewhat alter the base stats of characters i like but who have useless stats.
You can slo use it to change the class of characters i thik i changed jahere in to a true druid instead of multi class Druid/Fighter.
And i changed one guy forgot his name from a ranger kit that has a back stab to the class kit archer because i pretty much used him as an archer anyway.
I also raised Imoens Int to 18 from 17 so she can cast lvl 9 spells.
It's really funny, if you play the archer way almost everything becomes a cakewalk, but if you get ambushed while traveling it can get really nasty because enemies are relatively close to you and it's kinda hard to maintain your defense line, so it often happens that one of your spell casters in training gets killed.
Yeah, that keeps happening. Pathfinding is also borked, because you sometimes get characters running absolutely fucking everywhere.
The Kobold Maze in the halfling village is a particularly bad example. Don't get me started on Cloakwood.
BG1 you pretty much have to be in tip top shape (rested) before a fight, and after a fight, rest again unless your fighting like only kobolds, archers are OP as fuck in BG1 because most fights its a ton of fucking snipers pushing your shit.
Mages are only there for fireball or summon.
Whats nice about BG2EE, is that by default it has the bg fixpack installed, and the ai is improved as fuck.
Every fucking fight against humans, they ALWAYS use haste potions, and the mages always cast haste.
Vanilla bg2 wasnt this hard.
Evil party has the best npc for each important slot except maybe a melee.

Best fighter Korgan (fighter)/Keldorn (good)/Dorn (Evil)
best mage: Edwin (evil), Neera (abusing wild mage shit)
best thief: Hexatt (evil) yoshimo (nuetral)

Just set the AI refresh speed to 60.
How much trouble does it cause to have characters of conflicting alignments in your party? I chose my main to be a lawful good paladin but I might want an evil character or two to stick around.
You will get your shit wrecked until you learn that debuffs aber much more valuable than simply buffing yourself. You definitly want to have sleep and horror in your backhand, at later stages in the game fire a greater malison first and fear your enemies afterwards, it's worth it trust me.
Baldur's Gate will eat your sorry ass if you don't minmax. There's no reason to have "roleplay" stats unless you want to reroll for ten hours in order to get a ridiculous statscores. So if you play a fighter be prepared to have wis and int as dump stats. Well it's either that or you spend several hours pressing "reroll".
Cloakwood? Wasn't Kivan in High Hedge? He's the best archer I think. Elf, high dex, ranger class, give him a composite bow of accuracy and bracers of accuracy and his thac0 will be like 9 upon joining. There's nothing that motherfucker couldn't hit.
This is why I like Planescape Torment. If I want to roleplay as an extremely smart Fighter who mostly talks his way out of situations I can just take Int Wis and Charisma, but if someone is being a bitch I can still kick their ass. In Baldurs Gate there's no reason not to put everything in Str and Con.

Party seems solid. I'd recommend using crowd control spells - sleep, web, color spray etc. Aoe dmg spells that early in the game are not too useful.
I guess you remember to buff your party as well?
Also, those giants on the battlefield are a nightmare for a party without disables. I can only kill them with web/grease combo. Other than that, I always die to them.
For anyone thinking of picking up ToEE, I recommend Circle of Eight modpack. Good stuff.
I got the modpack installed, I only really have sleep and charm for any sort of control, charm=dominate so its kindof OP but can apparently corrupt your saves if you use it too often so I try not to use it. The only real buff I have is bless from my cleric. Do I have to clear the moathouse before I unlock the second city and the temple?
IIRC, only after clearing Moathouse you have the option of knowing the location of ToEE - and traveling to the second city. Did you do every quest in the first village? If you're lacking exp, just travel a bit between locations and fight random ambushes.
But Moathouse should be manageable with 2-3lvl party members.
It means you're getting more exp that way. It's also less frustrating for some people when they don't have to control 4 party members.
I once went with 3 members and it was fun. Cleric and Wizard/Sorcerer are obligatory.
Complete as many minor quests as you can including all the ones in Candle Keep. Simple fetch quests like locating rings or delivering items from A to B.
Also add NPC even if you don't want them to grab scrolls etc.
I'm level 3, I did the spy quest for the brothers, don't think I found any other quests in the city. Maybe I should go back and see if I can get some better gear, btw do you know if dwarfs can use twohanded weapons without (size)penalty?
There's plenty of quests in the city, but they mostly consist of talking and running around. For some of them you need high talking skills.
I have no idea about any penalties on dwarfs. My knowledge of D&D 3.5 is not that good.
It's a 100% True Sight that doesn't take up spell slots, is always available and doesn't run out when activated. It also dispells mirror images, invicibility and hide in shadows.
Cool, didn't know that. Always used True Sight for detection.
But using Detect Illusions means that thief has to be useless for a short period of time, because when he attacks, he stops using the skill, right? Still, it's cool to know that this skill might be useful sometimes.

As a kid I played through BG2 with a good aligned party not really knowing what I was doing. Got as far as the final fight in ToB before giving up cause I just couldn't beat it.
Now more recently I tried to play through the entire series with the BWP modpack. Thing is though, BG1 became a bit dull when I realized I was playing with my BG2 party except at low levels.
Are the evil NPCs as interesting and fun as the good ones? Maybe a playthrough in the complete opposite alignment would be fun.
Can this be considered as the biggest easter egg in gaming? Three games long.
OP here, after taking the general advice and putting 2/3 of the party on ranged mode with two tanks and two characters with vines for lockdown/cc I'm kicking ass and taking names and the game is fun now. Thank for the help, all.
Aerie is the best multiclass you can have in this game.
F/M/T is one of the best multiclass to solo the BGT through.
If you're planning on playing 6-man party, there's really no point in multiclassing, as there won't be enough exp to reach the level cap anyway.

You can't go wrong with those. You will become World Raper, Destroyer of Demogorgons.
Either dual at 9th lvl or 12th (at 12 you only get bonus half an attack per round, or was it at 13lvl?).
well when you're new to the game it's just tough at first. and get used to dying. it'll happen a lot. from stupid traps to fights you uknowingly stumble on. but you'll get better. not just in stats but strategy.
have roles. a tank, a healer, thief/archer.
Dual class fighter/cleric. It's one of the best combos along with the kensai/mage build.
Don't ever multi-class, unless you play solo/2 characters max, because exp will be shared so much among all of the levels.
With multi-class, you level up evenly on all of the classes, which makes you extremely subpar.
Always dual-class instead, unless you wanna grind mid game.
I don't remember playing much of this game, but I do remember three things from it
- I gave my guy a sword and I couldn't remove it, I think it was a cursed blade
- I got my ass kicked by some guy called Doom guard or doom singer or whatever he's name is
- I always thought the magic missile spell looked really cool in this game

Do you know how dual-classing works, though?
You will be locked out of your previous class, until you level up your new, secondary class.
You need to plan ahead, and collect things like scrolls for fast experience (if it's Kensai/Mage obviously).
Also, it's important to realize, the higher you level up your Kensai, the stronger the combination will end up being due to better thac0 and such. Optimal build for Kensai/Mage requires you to level up Kensai up to the 14th level for best Thac0, and then it takes a long time of exping a subpar mage until you get back your previous class.
It can really become tedious, you know.

Let's put it like this: no one doubts BG2 is better than ToB in many ways, but ToB still has that BG2 charm, and it's really fun to see your characters being pushed to the limit.

I don't agree with this, if we're talking about starting a character in BG1 and carrying through.
Multiclassing is strong until around level 7-10 (slow-progression-high progression,) because you benefit from mitigating the XP requirement to level doubling every time.
It's only when that slows down and then stops entirely that multiclasses fall behind; a F/T with 161k XP (ToTSC cap) is 7/8, whereas single class fighters and thieves are 8 and 10 respectively, he's barely behind. Whereas a F/T with 2.95 million XP (BG2 vanilla cap) is 13/16 vs 19 and 23, respectively. It's obviously more extreme for casters, since arriving at key spells like pierce magic late fucks you over a lot more than having somewhat lower THAC0.

Experience gain is not linear, meaning you'll never be more than 1 or 2 levels behind a single class, and taking the mc's stats into account you'll still be better than any npc. Grind? Nonsense, even with a full party you won't need to. But the main point is combining class features: e.g. a single class thief backstab can be useful from time to time but it still mostly suck in thac0 and dmg. On the other hand a figher/thief with the bonuses from exceptional str and weapon specialization almost never fails a bs, you can literally go and take on drizzt or the durlag's guards at level 1 and take them down in a few rounds.
Another example, the cleric's insta-death on hit spell from bg2, Sounds good, but the problem is you never hit anything. With a F/C it's just the opposite, you never miss. Enjoy killing anything in the game by just clicking on it.
Stick with at least Normal, there is no artificial difficulty in BG. So, if you are Dark Souls fag, you should enjoy a little challenge.
Have 2 fighters , 1 cleric, 1 thief, 1 mage and rest what you like.
Take Imoen.Go where Gorion died, there is always something there, pick up Montaron /Xzar and Jaheira/Khalid.
BG is known for chezzy tactics, so first scout with thief.Use all skills/spells that are available to you.

Also I don't remember where to go after Nashkel mines because there's so many fucking areas you have to unlock by going to the edge of different maps. Where do I go to get the city of baldur's gate to open up?

Viconia might be in the woods south of Beregost. "You can find her at the area south of Beregost, very top of the map, west from the road." She's moved by a mod that shoves all the NPCs only available later on closer to the start (so no Coran in Cloakwood, etc.)
I think you're meant to go kill Tranzig in Beregost after Nashkel, if you mean the main quest. You need to follow the main quest to access the city proper, since the bridge will be up even if you arrive there now, blocking your path.
If you mean that area just below beregost before nashkel pass with the submerged, I've already mapped every square inch of it with no luck. I hadn't planned on using her but it is flaring my sperg-senses.

I've not tested it myself, but that's what several different posts indicate. Top left of the map just below Beregost. If she's not there you could try spawning her through the console, don't know if that breaks anything since the Flaming Fist guy isn't gonna be there, though.
What are some general tips for BG1? I love and have beaten BG2 several times but BG1 always feels like a slog to me and I literally can't get past the first few areas. I've tried a few times to play a mage and it was just suicide.

IWD1 has the most useful bards of any D&D cRPG. War Chant of the Sith is ridiculous, and it's swarming with bard only items. Still pretty much useless having more than one, though.
Yeah I couldn't beat that Will O' Wisps, Witch Light, and Death's Candles fight because those fuckings kept teleporting all over the fucking place, shitting electric damage every time they got hit and raping my healers. Not to mention they were all magic immune so fuck that.

All of the major mods are fully compatable now except for BG1NPC, and that's currently in beta and being actively patched every day. Should be fully compatible soon.
Also, there is a mod that lets you re-implement the old cutscenes. BG:EE isn't nearly as bad as it use to be.
How is the multiplayer in EE? I kind of like the idea of playing it with my bro and he might be able to run it on his toaster but I'm kind of wary of it.
