NARC - where you can shoot one drug dealer with a rocket launcher, steal his stash and sell it to another dealer, then kill him too.
Seriously, that game was fucking GOAT, and never do I see anyone discuss it here.
>Dredd game thread
>everybody always says openworld game
>not glorious tactical FPS
GTA4 + LCPD First Response mod. Best policeman experience in a fucking video games.
>trying to play this game on pc
>screen always goes black like I'm underground when I try to play
>HUD's still there and I can still shoot/get shot at but I can't see anything
It sucks because that game seems kinda fun.
You seem like one of those bandwagoning retards who never read Dredd and hate Stallone Dredd and love Urban Dredd because you're "suppose to" , so let me explain why I feel this way.
The plot was pretty good. Simple and straightforward.
The script was pretty terrible a lot of the lines seemed really forced.
Karl was OK as Dredd. on one hand, he kept that air of stoicism Dredd has, but he was trying too hard to do a gravelly Batman voice, you could hear it straining his voice sometimes. Even his regular voice would've been better than what was in the movie. Plus he was too quiet. like he was whispering half the time when talking to people. Dredd shouts, a lot.
And yes, he kept his helmet on, whatever. People make too much of a big deal about it. Dredd himself certainly would prefer to keep it on though for practical reasons, the rebreather has saved his life half a dozen times plus bullets have bounced off it.
The entire Pre-Necropolis story arc shows Dredd without his helmet on. I'm not saying he SHOULD take his helmet off. It's just that people love to say "omg the new dredd is sooooo much better because he kept his helmet on unlike stallone!" like parrots.
MegaCity One looks like shit.
Not in the good "apocalyptic" way.
It looks uninspired and boring. Yes, I get they had a tight budget. Yes I understand they just used flyover footage with a few CGI buildings. But WHY have these large panning shots showing off the whole city when the city looks so godawfully plain. They would've been better off showing of small, but really well crafted parts of the city, and let the viewer extrapolate that, instead of pretty much laying everything out, and having it look like generic shit.
Early Dredd Meg1 was a futuristic paradise, with crime and corruption seething underneath a thin veneer of technology.
Late Era Meg1 was a bombed out, apocalyptic warzone hellhole with radiation zones, mutatnt blocs and charred ruins.
2012 Dredd looks like neither
At the very least 1995 Dredd made the city look like the latter.
Meg1 in the comics had character, you could write (and they did write) entire stories just about meg1 that Dredd and the Judges had nothing to do with., the movie's portrayl has none.
This is some pretty serious I AM THE LAW shit
Great game too
It's good because it punishes the kind of retard who'll go in and shoot everyone without thinking pretty hard, you have to tell them to get on the ground, and if they refuse then you can shoot them. Sounds annoying but it's pretty fun. You can also do tasers and shit if you don't want to do it that way.
Nah, Wei Shen or whatever he was was an absolute faggot and ruined the whole moral dilemma the whole thing is based off of by being a massive asshole that no one could care about
Seriously it's not being the law it's just Wei Shen blatantly never gave a fuck anyway and just did that shit because he had to then first chance he gets NOOOOO THESE GANG MEMBERS ARE MY FRIEEENDS
fuck that guy
I hope you're not one of those retards that think you can invalidate an argument by saying >opinions!
There's such a thing as well justified and poorly justified opinions and the former trumps the latter
For the most part, the portrayal of Judges is alright. They're stoic, they're professional.
There's no council of high judges for some reason.
Perhaps they were trying to distance themselves from Stallone Dredd, but having a council and having conflicts on the council was an integral part of Dredd. It would've been nice to at least include them in a token scene. They don't even all need speaking roles.
Meg1 was a military dictatorship for most of its history. Having SOMETHING that shows it would've been good. Judges riding in formation, rookies in a training field, maybe more than 1 aircraft in the air?
>all these thoughtful rebuttals
The Punisher, no other game comes close
>mowing down tons of dangerous armed thugs with a ton of weapons
>fucking dual shotguns
>interrogations and special executions
>Never Wanted cheat
>Always Midnight cheat
>Wear leather jacket and motorcycle helmet
>Do vigilante mission using police bike
I haven't actually tried this but it sounds fun.
Then there's the problem with no one knowing who the hate Dredd is.
The Chief Judge knows Dredd, even confers with him privately, that's good.
The Rogue Judges know about Judge, but only the leader seems to know/fear/respect him, that's ok.
Anderson doesn't know who Dredd is.
No one in peach trees know who Dredd is.
You could say it's early in his career, but having the Chief Judge already rely on him and having him train special rookies is sort of a contradiction.
One can't honestly say, "Well he's not famous enough for Mama to know about him", when he's suppose to be THE most famous judge. Not to mention Mama specifically knows which corrupt judges to call on, which implies she at least is familiar with "important" judges.
>This is bad because xyz
>well I can't rebutt you at all
So you agree meg1 looks bad?
Because I laid out reasons why it looks bad and is a poor adaptation.
You agree Karl Urban acted poorly?
Because I pointed out problems with his performance.
So if Meg1 was bad and Dredd was bad, what was good about the movie? Why do you even like ti?
>There was no need to show anything other than him being introduced to Anderson and getting the call to Peach Trees
And yet they did.
They had an opening montage with generic riot and slum footage.
They have constant bridseye shots of Meg1.
They had him chase a van full of druggies through the streets.
They did show things other than the introduction and the call and it was awful.
>Dredd is a street judge and they were focusing on that.
Except what little they showed of the actual streets sucked.
Many compromises must be made in order to appease the masses. I agree with your points from the perspective of a Dredd fan, but they also wanted the movie to appeal to general audiences, thus the more bland and cliche elements.
You can be Hitler in space station 13,
I gas a traitor, and made it public.
>KNOW YOUR PLACE, KEEP YOUR PLACE
>Dredd fans could not be more satisfied with what we got. 100% unleaded LAW.
>I'm a pretty big Dredd fan didn't think it was that great.
>then you're not a dredd fan. you fucking tool
>here's why the movie was shit
>i don't care lalalala I'll just plug my ears and tell you to deal with it
>Plus he was too quiet. like he was whispering half the time when talking to people. Dredd shouts, a lot
This was my biggest problem with the film. I could let go of Mega City One being bland (Nolan numbed me I guess) but for the whole film I was waiting for Dredd to lose his shit and it never happened.
Still a great film, though. I think most people prefer 2012 Dredd to '95 Dredd because it's just a better film; in terms of being Judge Dredd films I'd say they match up equally, they just succeed and fail in different ways.
Make autists buttravaged by subjecting them to THE LAW.
>This thread again
Why do people do this? What's the fucking point?
Yeah they havent really collected that far yet.
Your best bet is to get all the dredd megazines and 2000AD issues (have fun with that shit theres only like 6 pages a week of Dredd in 2000AD)
Yeah, digging through the crap for the comics I'm after in 2000AD has never really appealed to me, there's some great stuff in it, but a lot of bland tosh too.
Are there any places I should be looking specifically for comics, or will I find them the same place as everything else? I feel like I'm losing my touch with piracy these days, I've just been torrenting for years now.
Get the complete case files, which has 85% of Dredd's published stuff.
Also get Amercia, which is a major story that isn't included in the case files.
The case files will probably take you to 2006-2010 ish
Newer stuff isn't complied into anthologies yet.
These are the most important stories in those case files.
The Robot Wars
The Cursed Earth
The Day the Law Died
The Judge Child
The Apocalypse War
Well shit, looking at what I've got, I think it's almost entirely case files and I've read most of those stories.
I wouldn't mind, but the JD comics are just so moreish, I never seem to tire of how much more fucked up that fucked up little world can get.
Never really bothered with /co/, I suppose it'd be sensible to have a comb through their archives.
They do have archives, right?
I've never seen Dredd or Judge Dredd, nor have I read the comics. In fact the only comics I've ever read are the Farside, Calvin & Hobbes, V for Vendetta, and the Watchmen. I'm just not really a comics kind of guy.
However, I've been reading about the world of Judge Dredd on wikipedia and it sounds pretty awesome, and these comics in this thread are hilarious or badass.
Where do I start with Judge Dredd?
Theres a fucking huge torrent which collects all the 2000AD Dredd up to 2013.
Then you can torrent all the single issues of Dredd Megazine.
Also theres a seperate Dredd series done by an american company called IDW, started last year, which is actually pretty decent. Its only at like issue 20 so far so you can jump onto that too.
And theres an Anderson solo series starting THIS MONTH
True Crime NYC can feel like THE LAW
Literally anywhere. Most stories are like 6 pages long.
Fleetway who owns Dredd have done a fucking amazing job collecting every single story in order though. Called Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files.
Theres 22 volumes so far.
Just pirate them. Though it starts in like the late 70s and is black and white for a while. Some people like skip ahead until the 80's
>What are some games where I can be THE LAW?
How has no one posted this yet?
This as well: http://www.giantbomb.com/judge-dredd/3005-8373/games/
>no glorious ultra-fascist SWAT 4-like Dredd game
>you'll never teargas a fattie rally and beat them with nightsticks with your rookie friends
BUT I WANNA PUSH PEOPLE AROUND AND MAKE MYSELF FEEL BIG.
>There are people in this thread that haven't read about the Cursed Earth's fast food turf war
I can't tell you how badly I want a proper Judge Dredd video game. Preferably something like Deus Ex with levels that are open and free-form with different ways to complete objectives
ITT Judge Dredd confirmed for giant fascist prick tier
Been replaying the whole series lately, it's even better than when I was a kid
Special mention for AAI2, easily my favorite so far
Different in terms of routes to take. At the end of each mission when you reach the law-breaking scum, you get a ME-style dialogue wheel. The options appear just like ME, with renegade, hero, neutral, etc options. But in all cases Dredd surprises the player and shoots the perp anyway.
>The options appear just like ME, with renegade, hero, neutral, etc options. But in all cases Dredd surprises the player and shoots the perp anyway.
I'll take ten copies.
You're not exactly a cop but the game is all about fighting for justice and defending the earth
What do they recycle the bodies into? It can't be food. That idea is foolish considering how much work it would take to render a human body into anything good, especially when it comes to people that died of natural causes since they'd be riddled with cancer and disease. Fuel?
>You are a righteous Paladin, enforcing the one true law of the LORD
>Investigate and arrest Heretics, Adulterers, Pagans and Witches
>Burn out their confessions by Lash, Brand, Rack and Strappado
>Execute them by fire, purging their souls them in the name of the LORD
>Smite the creatures of the Devil, in the name of the LORD, including Trolls, Ogres, the Undead, Vampires, and demonspawn
Time for the motherfucking Inquisition. The One True Law prevails!
If you ever want some good talking points against Democracy, here's a good start.
I knew it!
The fist of justice strikes again!
>Here the eleven million citizens who die each year find a last resting place...sort of...
>Once through the plush synthi-velv curtains, mechanical arms remove the corpses and place them on the conveyor belt...
>They are then joined by others from smaller Resyk terminals dotted all over the city, as they flow smoothly into the recycling plant...
>Here, over a thousand corpses per hour are dissected and broken down into 107 useful constituents. In the post-nuclear world, nothing can be wasted - and the valuable chemicals contained in the human body are vital to the city's hungry industries..
>The Resyk workers have a proud boast: "We use everything but the soul!
How the fuck has the best Dredd videogame only been mentioned once in the thread?
Someone needs to work on a Megacity Builder mod for Simcity 4/whatever current city building game isn't shite.
>not enough police funding/judge corruption
>crime running rampant
>Judge Dredd co-opts your law enforcement
>have to keep building iso-cube facilities because the prisoners keep flooding in
>drains your treasury
>"This is the price of JUSTICE!"
>Dark Judges invasion as one of the disasters
>tfw going full non-lethal with pepper balls and beanbag and getting that perfect score
>There's a law for that!
Most people that would make a good LP of SS13 are enjoying the game too much to LP it. Plus it's just kind of a bad game for that, really. You should try it for yourself, but it will take some time to get used to the controls and vastness of everything you can do. Stay away from Goon servers, they're shit. /tg/ is good.
>Rebellion bought 2000AD
>made a shitty Dredd Android game instead of the Dredd game the world needs
i'm dying inside
>pretty fucking weird
Dredd is at its best when he's weird. Most of the hate I hear about the new Dredd movie is about it not being weird enough and too serious, but then again can you imagine them getting the fatties past the MPAA?
Just decided to get into Dredd last week. I bought Vol. 1 of IDW's Dredd since it looked great and I had no idea what to start with. I heard Complete Case Files is a good place to start but where should I go after that? I like having hard copies, should I buy those individual issues at my comic book store or just the large book-like collections?
>Frank just sitting inside that coffin with a huge machine gun pressed against him
>Sit up inside the coffin and start shooting a bunch of unarmed thugs, blowing off limbs and heads all over the place
jesus christ it captured the essence of the Punisher brilliantly
>Punisher kills zoo animals, makes children cry
If any of you have an xbox hueg there's a mod that uncensors executions
those helmets must make that difficult
>In 1996 new editor John Tomlinson commissioned a sequel, "America II: Fading of the Light." It is revealed in this story that Beeny arranged to become pregnant from sperm he stored before transplanting his brain, and gave birth to his and America's daughter, named America Beeny.
>Kill a Judge
>Sent to live on a traffic island
2000AD is a mean comic
because he was a dyel in the early comics
that's why he was able to jump and evade like a squirrel
Mega City Two is awful except for one amazing panel.
>mexican renegade judge with lucha mask
>Dredd having to deal with citizen-friendly judges with pea-shooters
>cyberpunk authoritarian future
>Carlos Ezquerra grew up in fascist Spain, draws on that for inspiration
>It doesn't actually work, we can see it crumbling all around the Judges
>Meg1 is slowly coming apart, things are always getting worse
>Stark parody of the police state, shows that an overly authoritative government can never work
>Some very obvious humor, others much more subtle
>Starts off light hearted and very childish, sugar and coffee are outlawed as stimulants
>Takes a darker, more violent turn, but keeps all of the elements that made Dredd great before. Essentially an art style update with more "mature" stories
>In the setting, actually feel sorry for Judges and want them to succeed
>Brainwashed from childhood
>Trained as soldiers and police
>No real pay, only a small stipend
>Your retirement plan is to walk the wastelands with a gun
There's just so much to like about Dredd
Seconded. Since there really is nothing that comes close, I'm going to play Space Marine to feel the pure power of a large uniformed man beating the shit out of things. Kind of in the same ballpark as Dredd
Prison Architect will let you play the antitheses of that game, you can orchestrate some really quite brutal riots in it at the moment.
I guess there's a second one. I wonder if it's any good because it looks like I can enforce ORDNUNG
Where should I start with these comics, /v/?
I tried starting from the very beginning but I didn't get too much out of those. They were a little too cheesy and short for me.
What era are the comics posted in this thread from? In which case files volume can they be found?
If you guys go sparingly on the images I can post the whole of this one. Not Dredd but set in the Dredd universe.
Shhhhh to those who've read it
>I'm a pretty big Dredd fan didn't think it was that great
we know its you rico.
There's a game coming out sometime in the next year or so called Due Process, it's kind of like Robocop and Judge Dredd, where you play SWAT officers facing off against some criminals holed up in a building.
Payday 2...kind of. In one mission you...
>Show up at the end of a gang shootout and have to cook the meth you were going to pickup
>Deliver said meth to a bunch of gangbangers for into on a Mexican cartel being protected by the government, which you can then double cross by executing them and stealing back the meth
>Track down the cartel bus and wipe them all out and stealing a fuckton of their drug money
>Keeping drugs out of the hands of 3 different gangs
>Killing a whole bunch of said gang members
>Wiping out a Mexican cartel and stealing all their money
If it were cops doing it instead of a group of contracted criminals you would be praising the shit out of them.
