>Earlier in the year, Hiroshi “Bamboo” Takeuchi, the president of visual novel developer Overdrive, said that he was encouraged by the sales of Go! Go! Nippon!, the studio’s first visual novel aimed at the Western market.
>Go Go Nippon! is a game that puts you in the shoes of a boy visiting Japan for the first time, and being shown around by a pair of twin girls. The game went on to sell 10,000 copies, which is fairly impressive for a visual novel, and Takeuchi said that he would like to create a “version 2” of the game with updated aspects.
>True to his word, Takeuchi appears to be doing just that. Last month, on Twitter he revealed: “I started the development of ‘Go! Go! Nipppon-2014-’.”
PC wins again!
>Takeuchi said that he would like to create a “version 2” of the game with updated aspects.
That's what's underwhelming, at least to me.
>Japanese text clearly contains three sentences
>Translators only bothered to translate the first two and pretended the last one didn't exist
Why is this allowed?
-It will still appear on your public profile
-It will still show up in your activity feed when you buy it
-It will still show you as playing it on your friends list
-It does fucking nothing other than create a premade 'hidden' category which you could already do anyway, its only purpose is to move the shitty games you'll never play out of your list of vidya so they're not clogging up your selection of a backlog title to play
>whats up with people feeling ashamed to play "weird" games on steam?
Not speaking for others, but I'd feel ashamed for buying something so blatantly catering to the lowest and most pathetic desires and misguided ideas about Japan. It's not about what others think, it's just that one has to have some dignity.
It is. Western steam releases cost Japanese companies nearly nothing.
These are old games that have long stopped selling in Japan and translated into English for less than a grand.
They're seeing a new market in the west where no one would ever buy these before.
>catering to the lowest and most pathetic desires and misguided ideas about Japan.
Go! Go! Nippon is apparently endorsed by the Japanese government.
Or something like that.
It was created for the purpose of teaching foreigners about Japan.
You knew this was -truly- a game when their parents allowed a gaijin to their house alone with their daughters.
Far as I know GGN only barely goes into that part of VN.
There's actually multiple extended conversations about the simplest shit in Japan, like Suica cards, conbini, maid cafes and their toilets. It's a little heavy-handed with it, actually.
>Wow, convenience stores here sell food?!?!?!
>THAT'S NOWHERE NEAR MY HOME COUNTRY~~~~~~~~
>Only a few VNs translated
>Japan gets fed up of western countries giving them shit
>Companies like Minori and Key close their websites to foreigners and start spouting shit like "You can play our games, but you have to be on nippon soil"
>C&D sent to translator teams
>Teleport years later
>Many companies start getting more and more interested in gaijin market
>Steins;Gate actually officially released
>Steams prove to be a gold mine thanks to faggots that would buy ecchi short novels
>More games start coming
I am pleased.
>My face when I fit that description so I self inserted myself harder
Apparently I was fascinated by trains and ticket machines.
Fuck you Overdrive
You were the chosen one! You were supposed to destroy shitty VNs, not make them!
i like how you think you're so right about this, and then you're also so vindictive and angry about it as well, all the while being totally wrong. it's so sad you little autist, you're a sad little man
It's not my fault she got out shined by a fucking unbalanced suicide girl. Even the writers noticed that, and just said fuck it. We are not going to rewrite half of her route to make Chie a decent character and just disappeared Midori until the end of the game.
Steam handles hosting, downloads, maintenance, purchases, updates. price management, sales and some legal shit all for free. Submitting a game to steam only costs 100 dollars the first time a company submits a game, to stop trolls from submitting shit.
Valve will even assist them implementing the steam overlay, steamworks and other stuff. Workshop is free too.
Achievements are free, community site is free, adding updates is free, it is all free.
Valve makes enough money with that 30% per sale to make up for all the other costs.
For reference, it is estimated that publishers lose about 70% of the cost of a game through traditional methods such a s gamestop releases.
Well, she had actual development, something Chie got barely until the end of her route. I don't really think Midori is that good of a character, but she was the only reason why the Chie route wasn't a fucking borefest, everything interesting that happens there is because of her.
