>The latest Sonic game for Wii U will see two new “fan favourite” characters added – that’s according to the game’s developer Big Red Button. Speaking to GamesTM magazine earlier this month, creative director Bob Rafei said how wonderfully fun it was to explore different parts of the Sonic universe, whereby coming up with new designs was very important for prospective fans, particularly in relation to Knuckles “as the power-based character when looking at the ensemble team”.
>As a teaser to fans, Rafei also mentioned that two firm-favourite characters would be added to Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. No hints were dropped as to who the characters would be, saving speculation for the fans instead. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric will arrive for Wii U this November. Here’s what the creative director said in relation to the upcoming game:
>“We looked at the rich universe and history of Sonic and began to gravitate towards characters that best fit into our objective to make an epic adventure game. Dr Eggman was a very fun character to explore and created a really fun dynamic to Lyric’s straight man super villain vibe. Also there are two fan favourite characters that we’re excited to add.”
It'll be blaze and shadow.
I can't wait to see Shadow, given how the rest of them have got random crap bolted onto them I wouldn't be surprised if he was covered in scars or had a cyborg arm or some shit. I laughed enough at the original trailer.
>You expect it to be something like Metal Sonic or some old one like Mighty/Nack or something
>It's actually just Shadow and Silver.
I really hope it's not Blaze, I'd rather not see her in this shitty game.
1) Rouge never should've been added to the Sonic franchise in the first place.
2) Rouge is a terrible character and anyone who likes her should be flogged.
3) Does it matter? Sonic is crap regardless. The only people who are still into this are manbabies mentally devoted because they've been that way for years. They won't even dare to admit MLP is a better franchise.
Wouldn't make sense to leave out 1 member of Team Dark. Shadow can work on his own, but adding rouge would be unnecessary.
He's only decent in SA2 and the comics.
If you don't care, why even post?
>Shadow is one of the best things to happen to Sonic
Care to explain how?
On one side, I'm happy that Blaze will be featured in more Sonic games and is continuing to remain a relevant Sonic character since she's my favorite.
On the other side, I'm not happy because she's going to be in Sonic Boom.
U WOT M8 OILL SMACK YA IN DA GOBBA
>only two new characters
Well, then it better not be Shadow and Rouge, not without Omega.
You do not break up based Team Dark. All or none.
Remember what happened the last time he was on his own?
Hopefully said backstory still involves him being a GUN agent. I mean, the only real reason you would ever include Team Dark in this show is to have anti-heroic rivals to the main cast with their own agenda, who would keep the Sonic/Eggman conflict from getting too repetitive.
Though granted they don't have their own Amy...
What I hate so much is that we seriously can't guess who it's gonna be because "fan favorite" can mean so many things with this shit fanbase.
You have standard Shadowfags that seriously only like the guy because they want Sonic in black
Then there's muhclassics who seriously thought Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was good, just because it has older Sonic design, who will unironically suggest Breezie and Captain Rescue are worth mentioning.
Then you have people with some actual taste that dread seeing Silver and Blaze in Sonic Boom because it just looks so fucking awful already.
There's no winning.
>wanting Omega to be ruined by Boom's gross mech designs
Blaze in Boom would mean more exposure and more art being made of her.
Me too, though Shadow on his own works well enough. Rouge is simply uninteresting and Omega's design would be butchered in Boom (plus, he wouldn't be as good as Archie Omega).
She's literally just "bat spy/thief with tits". Other than being the straight man to Shadow and Omega, she's got nothing else going on for her. Not even Ian could salvage her, and he made Silver into a fun character.
Fuck yes, can't wait for the return of these fan-favorite characters.
I just like her personality, and her straight man role works.
>Not even Ian could salvage her
No, he (or anyone else for that matter) just hasn't really done anything with her. I'd love to learn her backstory about how she joined GUN in the first place.
>Not even Ian could salvage her.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. If its a matter of character growth, then you have SEGA mandates to deal with that keep their characters in a state of perpetual limbo.
Series is going to get canned after the first season, these redesigns will never get touched again, though SEGA will likely attempt similarly retarded redesigns for the US audience some time in the future again.
Are there any noteworthy Sonic fan characters out there?
I don't think anybody claimed that Boom was Sonic's triumphant return.
The cycle is broken, h-hurray
The problem with that is that the main series doesn't really have any characters that can function as secondary characters/NPCs.
Someone like Blaze just doesn't work as a secondary character due to her establishment as a protagonist. Her being included a game doesn't work unless she's playable.
>being this retarded
Rouge (or Zeena) is LITERALLY the only thing that can save this game.
All the current female designs look pretty fucking boring so far.
Cut out all the edgy gun bullshit, and it's not a terrible game.
It has multple endings to levels and paths through the game with multiple end bosses and endings, so that's something.
Because the slippery as fuck controls, shit physics and overly long and boring level design suddenly go away as well.
Only because it was contained to a single game instead of being meant to cover an entire trilogy.
>It has multple endings to levels and paths through the game with multiple end bosses and endings, so that's something.
This concept sounds good on paper, but the way it's executed in the game is just boring and monotonous.
It's just another waste of potential, like most Sonic games.
>That was just a glorified cameo.
A better example would be Knuckles, who was given protagonist status with both S&K and Knuckles Chaotix but has been rendered to being a secondary character for the past few years.
It's been the same Metal Sonic in every game. Fucking Sonic 4's Metal saga explained it all.
Only "different" Metal Sonics are Mecha Sonic from S3K and that corrupted Metal from Knuckles Chaotix.
Oh Knuckles, you poor bastard. He has basically nothing to do unless there's some ancient whozits running around.; And even then he's not in Unleashed. Probably why the setting of Boom is all about ancient ruins and shit, so Knuckles has a purpose for once.
>said it in relation to the villains.
>the villains they don't want upstaged
It's Orbot and Cubot, They've already shown up in concept art for the show, but Big Red Butt probably doesn't know better.
For a second I thought it said fan-picked, which would have been infinitely better
Well Metal Sonic was found in one of the 3DS trailer, and I'm gonna guess the other one will be Shadow.
Alternatively, since the game is using time travel, Silver could be it as well.
