How would you rate the routes/girls?
Give a brief explanation for each.
6/10. easy, if its your first run it sets the mood for the game nicely, but needs more misha. should have given misha her own route
7/10 frustrating, but it had the most paths. rin is cool, but not waifu material
8/10 hot loli sex. her energy was fun and made me feel like i was a highschooler. her route was the only one where hisao didn't give a shit about the letter, which i always thought was cool of emi
8/10 would protect smile. the only fault is hanako being pretty boring of a person if you think about her interest
That KS general is a horrible place, like purgatory. The same people have been posting their since the VN was released because they can't move on with their lives
or at least move on to better VNs.
Hanako's route gave me an existential crisis for almost a year.
I haven't played any of the other routes.
Dis nigga right here is mah nigga.
If you're going to ask for recommendations at least say "/v/ what route should i chose for this shitty entry level visual novel"
Start with Emi > Shizune > Lilly > Hanako > Rin
From worst to best in terms of writing
>play the youtube video
>3 seconds in
>have to stop watching
i wouldn't be surprised if i have the same reaction in 40 years
fuck this VN - changed my life
Lily I liked the most, but her route was still very predictable, I mean, come on. It ends with you chasing her to an Airport to tell her you love her. It doesn't get anymore cliche.
Emi is the one that everybody gets first I think, because we all want to make sure Hisao doesn't die so we go running. Again, very predictable but not as enjoyable for me. The anal scene was just weird.
Rin came off as a weird ice queen, I never really liked where the story went and the ending seemed emotionally abrupt.
Shizune was god tier because you fuck Misha. Other than that it's a bit of a letdown, we never get that scene, you know, where even though she's deaf she says I love you with her own voice.
Hanako was just a big baby, and she still had two perfect tits for some reason even though the rest of that side of her body was charred.
I never failed any of the playthroughs, so I don't know how each breakup goes, but apparently hers is the worst.
No options. Second best sex scene.
Shit girl shit route.
God tier, made me actually sad.
Pretty good, best sex scene in the game.
Hanako > Lilly > Shizune > Emi.
Shizune has a trainwreck of a route, only good thing about it is h-scenes and Shizune herself. 2/10 best sex scene I've seen in any VN
Rin's route is 7/10, pulled my heart the most, has a nice story with a beautiful message.
Hanako route is GOAT, great girl with a great route. 8/8, no real reason to h8. Teaches people that saving people ain't worth shit, cause they gotta save themselves.
Haven't played Lily or Emi route.
I can't even load up KS any more, I don't want those feels again.
>Tfw I will never play Katawa Shoujo for the first time ever again
It's a bad VN, but it has a special place in my heart.
>tell a friend to play Katawa Shoujo
>she calls me up three days later at two in the morning crying her eyes out about music boxes
Rin is best route with shittiest Hisao. Shizune is worst route with no real choices. Lilly's is best ending route. Hanako route for best message and
shit everything else. Emi route for most consistent quality in writing.
>we never get that scene, you know, where even though she's deaf she says I love you with her own voice.
This, holy shit, there are so many interesting things you can do storywise if the love interest is deaf. They fucked up harder than I imagined would be possible.
The only redeeming factor in that route was this scene right here.
because its a shitty VN
and dont come saying its because its western or that its because its not from glorious nippon that I hate it
fucking Unteralterbach was made by pedos in Krautchan and was far better than KS
>Rin is best route with shittiest Hisao.
Hisao in Hanako's route was worse.
Rin and Emi is debatable which is better
Shizune's route is good, but got hijacked by Misha. If there were 2 good endings where you could end up with Misha it would be acceptable but she just steals it and it's hardly even about Shizune
Emi's route has the most alpha Hisao but Emi herself is kind of a bitch in it, and is oddly cold-hearted. It's a emotion jerker but daddy issues can only go so far. Really good confession scene though
Lilly has best ending and has the best approach to the actual love. Only thing is it's kind of odd how they did her moving away after basically telling Hisao that she is scared of losing him. Sure it can be said she secretly wanted him to stop her but I think it's more lazy writing
Hanako is a good character, but absolutely nothing happens in her route to progress her character. Even in Lilly's route she improves, but in her's she is just the same all throughout.
Rin is kind of dumb but the ending saves it. Second playthrough I liked it better but it's still kind of uneventful up to the end.
Nothing happens for 2 hours and then you comfort Misha, some of the best H-scenes but nothing else of note.
The "safe" option, story is pretty good and has a satisfying ending
although Emi and Hisao having sex right after visiting her father's grave was jarring.
Cliched as fuck but a decent route for feels because of it, third H-scene is the best in the entire VN.
Interesting character and story arc ruined by a rushed ending and an awkward H-scene (and not awkward in a romantic kind of way).
Probably the best-written route but tends to be hit-and-miss with people as there's a lot of monologuing, H-scenes are forgettable and disappointing if you're expecting foot fetishism.
ETERNAL GOAT WAIFU
95% of my friends are like you described. Talking about anything with them is like pulling teeth sometimes. And then you have her, where I sit and listen to her rage over Hisao for three hours.
As far as VNs go, I've seen a few ones that Hisao is better than.
The worst MC is the guy from "Yandere", it's obvious that there are people breaking into his house and he just says "oh well" and goes about his daily life
before eventually getting murdered by a yandere girl.
I think that Shizune's was the only one that reached graduation. Hanako's could have been great if the pacing was better, it didn't really feel like there was any progression before the resolution, which made the resolution feel awkward and unbelievable.
It's really effective as a horror/guro story (there are some genuinely creepy scenes) but doesn't work very well as the yandere story it bills itself.
It only takes about two hours to finish, so don't put off playing it if you're expecting it to be Fate/Stay Night.
Saying Katawa Shoujo has 2500 threads is like saying Homestuck does. Both generals are just a community revolving around tertiary discussion, if that. Also lots of shitposting.
>It's a great VN for the uninitiated.
But we are initiated, aren't we, anon?
That's understandable, I think that Lilly even says at one point that she thinks of her lack of vision as just being another way of perceiving the world and she doesn't get hung up over it.
But she was lying to make Hisao think she wasn't emotionally vulnerable.
Lilly's was good.
I didn't like how they went from being friends to fucking all in the span of a day, but the entire relationship felt very realistic.
Hanako's was the most memorable to me.
It had a lot of similarities to my relationship and I'm glad her story handled how disabled people are treated in real life like it did.
Seriously, that bad ending was awesome.
To me, Rin's was the most boring.
I loved her character at first, but the whole thing got old quickly and it didn't justify her characteristics like all the other girls.
Shizune's was alright.
Not the best, but not terrible. The whole "love triangle" thing went in a completely different direction than I expected, and I was entertained by the rest of story despite there being little actual choice.
Emi's was the most entertaining.
I found myself genuinely laughing at much of the writing and the entire relationship was the most realistically portrayed.
There, I said it.
Feel free to disagree.
I can't say, I haven't read Chaos Head either.
It helps that she resembles Sona Sitri from High School DxD. Only Shizune's "pawn" succeeds in winning her over.
>Emi, the best:
Excellent route, excellent girl. She was fun, the way their relationship evolved was realistic, her disability(the accident) plays a big part in the story, both her and Hisao end up growing up and the "message" is really good.
That aside, the reason I love her so much was because her route was almost a shot-for-shot adaptation of the relationship I had with my ex. My ex
looked like Miki, tho.
>Hanako, the second best:
I liked it alot. The route was different, the idea of being with a "broken" girl was handled well and the ending is great. I also appretiate hos the message is "white-knighting is bad for relationships".
>Lily, right in the middle:
Good girl, good route, problem is that it felt a little too cliched. She is super-nice, she's a beautiful foreigner, she's apparently rich, he chases her to the airport. A little too safe, a little too boring. I loved her feud with Shizune, and her budding love for wine.
>Shinuze, pretty bad:
Her route was an unfocused mess. They could have gone for either her growing out of her repellent personality, or her dealing with her shitty family, or the lesbian crush, or the relationship with Hisao. It tried to do everything and ended up mediocre in everything. She's great, wasted potential.
>Rin, the worst:
I don't get along with "art-types" in the real world, and that showed when I played her route. I was constantly annoyed, constantly confused, I didn't find her attractive, the whole thing felt like a chore.
>Those billion spinoff VN projects that all seemed so hopeful at time of release
>Almost all of them have died off or gone so quiet you're lucky to see a post asking for artists every 4 months
I just want some visual novels without all the eastern cliche's and lost-in-translation "humor". Why can't the west pick their shit up?
>I don't get along with "art-types" in the real world, and that showed when I played her route. I was constantly annoyed, constantly confused, I didn't find her attractive, the whole thing felt like a chore.
Rin is 2deep4u
> "white-knighting is bad for relationships".
>How is wanting to look after your gf white knighting?
>Keep her company by playing chess with her
Routes and Girls
Kenji the ultimate bro> Hanako > Rin > Emi > Lilly > Shizune
Hanako and Rin were my two most enjoyed. Hanako's ended too soon, but I really enjoyed it. Touching moments, a girl that's stronger than others think, and she was in a position to improve with someone by her side.
Rin's was really nice as well. Interesting girl and seeing her try and cope with herself and what was expected of her was enjoyable.
Emi was a nice high school story with a really touching good ending depending on your choices. The first route for me and probably for a lot of others. I found her determination admirable as well.
Lilly was cliched, but the airport ending was nice in my books. Other than that, it just didn't do much for me. Not bad, I just didn't dig it.
Didn't care for Shizune's route outside of Jigoro being an ass. I didn't dislike her or any of the girls though.
Why are there so many KS threads on /v/ all of a sudden?
>>How is wanting to look after your gf white knighting?
Are you retarded? There's a difference between looking out for your girl and going full white knight mode like Hisao does in the bad ending.
I think that's probably more to do with exposure to Japanese media in general rather than something specific to VNs. All of that stuff comes across as grating at first but you get used to it pretty quickly.
I agree but it was handled poorly. You don't really have the choice to go full whiteknight, it just fucking happens after you make a somewhat unrelated choice and then you're locked into being a WK.
No anon, you are the retard. Normally when a grill shuts herself off to the world a BF's first instinct is go to look after her. In Hanako's case it's different because she has shinji emotions of IGOTTAGODOSUMTHIN
>start KS like 3 days ago
>literally my first VN
>finish Hanako's route yesterday
The whole day after I've been feeling strange inside and I can't even describe it in any way other than strange. Now I'm sitting here listening to the Persona 4 soundtrack and I can't shake this weird fucking feeling.
What's going on with me /v/?
It was a mistake man. He was trying to protect you.
Doesn't he friendzone her in the neutral ending, saying it's better they just remain friends? The only bad or neutral ending I did was for Shizune.
That's one of the weak aspects of KS, the branching decisions could have been a lot more fleshed-out instead of the writers tearing the controller out of your hands and taking the MC in a different direction to the one you were anticipating.
There again, Saya No Uta only had two decision points and it's regarded as one of the best VNs ever made.
Why don't faggots just call it "Song of Saya"?
You know, I always wondered what a guy that already has a girlfriend would think after playing Katawa Shoujo
You'll be alright anon. Who were you thinking of trying next?
I thought so. These threads are making me want to try it again.
Yeah, most everyone who plays the VN gets that feeling.
I got it with Lilly. The feels hit me like a truck, and I still can't figure out why, I know her route is cliched and lazily written, and I shouldn't like it, but I do.
TWO AND A HALF YEARS
I had no sexual urges for weeks. Thanks Katawa Dick
> learn to draw
> nothing good comes out of it
> play KS
> rin route
> play a little
FUCK THIS SHIT
I'VE BEEN FINE BEFORE I'VE PLAYED THAT. DISSAPPOINTED WITH MY LIFE, BUT FINE.
NOW I DRINK NEARLY EVERY DAY.
I AM THE CAPTAIN VIMES OF DRAWING - DISRESPECTED, TALENTLESS AND SELF-HATING.
WHERE IS THE BOTTLE, I NEED TO CALM DOWN
SOBBING IN THE TABLE AND VOMITING IN THE TRASH BIN AFTERWARDS IS BETTER THAN BEING SOBER
Rin >>>>> Lily > Emi > Hanako bad end > Kenji > Hanako > Shizune
Rin >>> Emi > Shizune > Lily > Hanako
I'm a pretty practical person and an engineer. Rin still a best.
>Played all routes
>Didn't feel anything
I'm either a horrible person or KS was
Babby's first VN.
Emotional manipulation garbage. Picture is a summary of Potassium Shoujo.
>All artistic works are just emotional manipulation
>Your favourite song or book just makes you feel artificial emotions because it didn't happen to you personally
I'm such a plebeian for being manipulated like this.
6/10 It wasn't especially bad I guess.
2/10 She is ugly and annoying.
5/10 Rin is cute and interesting but the writing was AWFUL
4/10 bad writing again. She isn't as cute or interesting as Rin but at least she isnt as ugly as Lily.
7/10 The route was paced poorly and the romance didn't develop properly but otherwise the writing was fine and she is cute.
Overall I would rate the VN a 5/10. It really needed better writers.
Making all the characters crippled like that is just an excuse for bad writing. Emotional manipulation is when they pull cheap tricks to make you emotionally involved rather than making an actual good character. It's like having someone stomp on a bunch of babies. It's a cheap way to get tears.
>U can dew it girl without legs, u can run da competition.
>U can dew it girl without arms. U can be da best artist. Don't let that disability hold you back ;_;
Except that Emi's disability isn't her legs; it's her inability to cope with loss.
Rin's disability isn't her lack of arms, it's her inability to connect with others.
Lilly's blindness is secondary to her inability to act in her own interests.
Shizune can't emotionally connect with people because of her complex and abusive relationship with her father and pathological need for control.
Hanako's burns make people treat her delicately, when all she wants is to be considered an equal.
Did you even play a single fucking route? Do you have the ability to grasp subtext? Or do you think that Tony Stark's primary struggle is his damaged body?
I would like to applaud you for being both right and concise.
All of these issues are brought about by their crippledness. They go to that specific school for a reason. Usually they have an accident that scars them more than physically (da subtext. so deep).
>M-main character-san, you would love me despite all my problems?
>Of course I would love you crippled-chan. HNNGH HEART ATTACK.
An then I cri.
And I feel like you didn't play the fucking thing.
I'd be mad, but this is /v/ after all.
Then why didn't you just say that the feels in the VN are heavily dependant on the subject?
But personally, I think that the feels came from difficulties we all experience in life being transposed on characters that happen to be disabled:
Lilly = Pride and the feeling of having to shoulder a burden rather than acknowledge your shortcomings
Hanako = Social anxiety and not wanting to be treated differently because of who you are.
Emi = Trust and not feeling able to rely on others in case they leave you.
Rin = Misunderstanding and feeling like you cannot express yourself in a way that other people can empathise with.
Shizune = Control and how your own personality can alienate those around you, preventing you from forming meaningful relationships.
I got da cripple issues and it hurts muh self-esteem.
But don't cry for me protagonist. I can make it on my own.
Wipe those tears, cripple-chan. I'm after the beauty inside. I can look past all your issues, because you have a heart of gold. Dispel all those self-doubts and come into my arms, cripple-chan.
>Implying your dick wasn't diamonds when this happened
Sometimes, Rin reminded me of my ex. Her route outright made me suffer. It was great.
>Meanwhile on /vg/
W-why can't I get a cripple-waifu? What a god damn work of art. Best VN ever made. Time to make threads everywhere about it and pretend it's not garbage. Also VNs aren't supposed to be on /v/ but I don't care.
I'll find a way to be with you, cripple-waifu. I can't wait to hold you in my arms.
A-and... it wasn't rape...
>Mod deletes my glorious story that was clearly on topic.
>Forgets /vg/ rule number 2:
>Western visual novels should be posted here, and Japanese visual novels on /jp/. Translated visual novels are allowed on either board.
Lilly's route is the only piece of media that has ever made me cry. No vidya, book, or movie has ever done that to me before or since. I mean, I've teared up here and there, but her route had me outright sobbing.
I also think I've developed a pretty huge fetish for blindfolds because of her.
I've gotten choked up before, but when I cried at the end of Lilly's route, it was a very cathartic kind of feeling as opposed to a reaction to something sad. The tears only came when
Lilly returned to Hisao when he was in hospitalbecause that scene hit close to home with me. KS isn't particularly well-written, but it was still really powerful for that first read.
I also like blindfolds now.
I cried during Hanako's route, mainly cause I can actually relate to Hanako and Hisao during that. After that,
I didn't really feel for the girls except Emi and just went through them so that I could masturbate to the sex scenes.
